Old one auto saging.

Could anyone tell me what kind of wig will be best for Opal? She has a short cut on the backside and I am wondering what kind of wig I could use that won't look bad with that kind of cut.

What are you trying to avoid with Lucaille? My immediate thought with Kiriko is to go with a long wig in Natural Black from Arda, but this wouldn't be good if you're looking to avoid tangling

>>8243760
What are the fibers made out of? If they're heat resitant, try dish soap. When I've dyed wigs from Arda and Epic before, a thorough scrubbing with dish soap was needed to make sure it rinsed clean. It looked like a dead animal after that, but became completely detangled and tame after using a straightener and wig brush on it.

Anyways, I don't have any questions for the moment, but I'm sure I will later...

If you're fine with flat black, I recommend Epic since their wigs will tangle as much as most other long wigs, but they're far easier to detangle (referencing >>8244608's comment about Ardas being a bitch to detangle, but being solid otherwise)

>>8244608
>What are you trying to avoid with Lucaille?
I know that some of their natural toned wigs are made from a different, cheaper fiber than their cosplay wigs. I own three wigs from them and have tried on a few from my friends, and they're actually kind of hit or miss with fiber quality. When they're good, they're similar to Epic in texture and appearance. When they're bad, they feel... not great? Idk, they've got a more unnatural shine to them than usual, tangle worse, and just feel more "fake" when you run your fingers through them.

What would be the best way to style a wig to look like this kind of hair?

I was thinking of sewing two long pink wigs together to get the thickness and then doing some kind of pin curls. Possibly curling more wefts and adding them as needed.

For tight ringlets, you'd lose quite a bit of length, but you also need to consider weight.
I wouldn't shoot for an ass-length finished wig because it'd give you a headache after 30 minutes. No one will blame you if it's shorter, as long as you have the ridiculous volume.
I think a 40" straight wig will be fine to start (this will be about ass-length while straight), maybe add extensions to the bottom if the curls end up too high.

For the curious, IRL Arda's Mint is a close match for the Doctored Locks branded Kanekalon Jumbo Braid in Arctic Frost. You should be fine since you're using black and not a lighter color like white or blonde; you'll run less of a risk of the back wefts showing.

Regular Ardas are definitely thick enough near the nape to be cut like that, and Epics SHOULD be. Ayanamisatoru wigs are listed as being thicker as well, iirc.

For a quick rundown on how to get the buzzed-nape look:

> shape of the style as far as wigs go is created with shorter fibers in the bottom wefts that lengthen as you go up the back
> start off by trimming the fibers of the bottommost wefts to about 1"-1.5". The thinner your spacing, the more length you'll want to leave. Don't forget to blend your edges by razoring, with blending shears, by snipping almost parallel into the fibers, or by a combination of the three.
> Only do this ~2 wefts at a time, three if your wefts are densely packed. It feels slow, but you'll get more even results
> As you work your way up, gradually leave your layers longer. For a shape like Opal's, your upper "buzzed" layers will be about two inches long; this is the point where you start to shape the rest of the bob

I've got a benadryl and too much caffeine in me right now, so let me know if this makes absolutely no sense. I'll try and grab some pictures of wigs I've done this to.

The promised pictures. Rundown of what's going on here:

Mako wig (brown):
> shorter sections start off 1" near nape, lengthen to 2.5" about 4" up the the bottom if the wig nape before the bowl-cut shape starts and fibers are cut to hang at a single length rather than in layers
> keeps the bowl-cut look while keeping you from looking like Coconut Head

Mirai wig (pink)
> layers are blended/thinned but max out at about 1.5" from the nape to about 3" up the back
> not screen accurate in length, but is more flattering on the face and allows for the curled-under ends without being too triangular

>> No.8250023

>>8249957
It took me a while to figure out exactly what to do, but that's because I kept cutting too little since I was afraid to butcher the wig. The thinner spaced the wefts near the back are, the easier it is to mess up and not be able to cover it. Work slow from the bottom up, and if you're really uncertain leave your layers on the longer side and skip thinning them out the first time you cut it; you can always go back and trim them shorter later.

If something really goes wrong, a black mesh (as opposed to net) wig cap will save your skin here; it'll hide any thinner spots.

If it's Elsa, Google "how to elsa wig" and there's a bunch of video and written tutorials since she's a popular character. Keep in mind that she has a hairstyle with the hair pulled up and away from her face, so a proper wig would be a lace-front (ie, have a special hairline that mimics a human hairline and would have been more expensive), but it's still doable with a normal wig.

If you can, go by the name of the fibers used (not all wig sellers list them though).
Kanekalon and Hiperlon are good.

A lot of wigs are resold from Lucaille and L-email. L-email has its own eBay shop (http://stores.ebay.com/maojun2012/Lemail-Top-Quality-Wigs-Store.html)), Lucaille doesn't.

Writing this for the anon who asked about the Second Nachame wig.

This is the wig I recently purchased for my Shinguji Sakura cosplay, exactly like the picture. TSN actually was selling this wig for the specific character when you look up for the listing, and I'm using it also for a few other characters with the similar hairstyle.

The style of it is like Arda's Jeannie, so it has a base wig with a ponytail, and it comes with an extra long ponytail clip. Overall, the look is better executed since it's better balanced and I had less fitting issues.

The wig has built-in clips along the top to hold the weight of the wig together. The bangs can be chosen to be unstyled or pre-cut. I purchased it unstyled, and the bangs are easy to cut on your own.

The side bangs are thicker, so it covers the sides of the hairline more and so the side bangs feel more natural and blend into the wig better.

The quality of the fibers is much more softer and easier to work with than Arda, personally. The TSN wig is softer and easier to remove any knots. The ponytail doesn't tangle too badly either.

The weight of the wig pieces combined are heavy, but the clip manages to hold it in. For some reason (likely my long hair), the Jeannie was very difficult to wear without it wider on some parts and not covering enough on others. In comparison, the TSN has a full fit of the wig on my head is much better, so it doesn't slip along the back or move around.

I'm usually a 22" in wig head size, and this wig fit perfectly and covered the back of my neck and the side near my ears where the Jeannie previously didn't cover. I had trouble initially with the Jeannie covering my dark hair and along the nape of the neck, so it dips down much like a full-sized wig instead of having a higher hairline.

I hope this helps, anon! If you have any questions, let me know.

I really like it. I love the color because it's not jarringly orange but still completely recognizable. Only complaint is that when I took out the bands to fix the twintails, the bands both broke and I had to fix them (they match the wig color so I wanted to keep them)

>Also, what's the chance of SJWs throwing a shitfit even though the character is obviously not black?
Medium.

>Has anyone ever made a dreadlocked wig?
Look up tutorials for synthetic dreads. Basically, you'll want to take a low-grade non-heat-resistant fiber like jumbo braid and use heat to damage/set it into dreads.

Theoretically you can do it with something like an arda Derka/Nicki/Glinda if you tease it to hell and back, but you need to get the fibers a lot hotter to set them properly, and use product on top of that.

My recommendation? Make individual custom dreads into a partial wig and use the bandana to cover the top.

I've bought two Epic Cosplay wigs, but both of them were longer styles, so I don't know how useful my experience will be to you. The first one I got was a Nyx wig, and it was very soft and thick and combed out beautifully.

The second one I bought was a Theia, and I thought it was much thinner than my Nyx (I could see the wig cap underneath a some points in my day.) I did add some volume to the bangs with teasing+hair spray, and it held the style all day at my con.

I love that they have an Amazon store with free 2 day shipping with Prime, and my wigs have shipping quickly both times (I think in under a week in both cases).

Hope that helps.

Just finger comb it! Epic Cosplay wigs don't tangle badly. I abused my wig (left it in a bag uncombed for like 9 months), I pulled it out and gave it some love, and about 5 minutes later it looked great. Keep a comb on your the day of the con, and if you can, transport it on a wig head.

It might work but that side will look bulkier with the excess of wefts. I bought kankelon hair extentions, and made individual dreds. It works by buying a short hair wig and sewing in the dredlock wefts. Cut the pieces of dreds about 1/4 longer than you actually want the pieces to fall.

Then, get superglue and thread. You may want a buddy on this: Make a thread loop and tie that around each lock piece you're working on. Then, superglue around the thread tie so the hair doesn't get pulled out as you're knotting it up.

Get hairspray and a short, bristled brush, plus a comb. You're going to have to backcomb and spray, continuously until you get the right thickness.

Then, clean up the bottoms, spray them, and sew them into your short wig.

Sorry... I don't have pictures of the wig I did, but I made a costume for a friend who wanted to go as Jack Sparrow. Took about 2-3 hours, mostly in waiting for the glue to dry, and the backcombing.

Good luck!

It took me 2 seconds on google to find more than one tutorial on how to do this.

Put some effort in holy shit.

Lots of big curls+some teasing maybe? Add some extra wefts or even sew two wigs together if you really want thick.

In hair, apple cider vinegar rinsing will take out oil pretty good.

I don't know if you can use that method on a wig.

Try A-line bob with stacking... stacked bob, or stacked A-line bob.

Best place to get wefts? I was looking at Arda's long weft since it's so cheap but I'm a little worried because Arda wigs supposedly tangle like a bitch. Is Epic a better bet?

I used to think this looked horrible to do as well, but i actually took black paint and streaked it before hand to add it the texture throughout the whole wig inside of it bulking up on the side were the stripes were, and that evened out the wig well. If needed I will drop a picture.

So any recommendation for wig styling products?
I've got to make a wig slightly wavy and I'm clueless on what to use to style it since I don't think natural hair products will work very well on it (it's for Heather Mason)

Also will a straightening iron smooth out frizzy strands? I've never used one and I'd like to know if it'll work on wigs.

To anyone that has Epic's Nyx wig, is it supposed to have a skintop like pic related?

Got mine today and it wasn't really specified in the stock photos (especially since it's a black wig) and I can't tell from the customer ones. I'm fine with it, just wondering if it's supposed to be like that.

>Would this work?
Not really, because you'll end up with these awkward choppy layers.
