Personally I would switch to full tights or OTK's, but I hate the kneegap look. I would use socks with a design that wraps vertically or diagonally rather than so horizontal, it widens your calves. I think IW has some white x sax socks with vertical designs, swear I saw a pair keep getting listed on LM.

If she paid for a photoshoot, some studios do a bundle/package deal where it comes with makeup artist and sometimes even someone who helps style your hair, they might not know what lolita looks like and most likely convinced their client to go with what the makeup artist thinks is the best look.

Personally I'd rather save money for burando rather than pay for a glamour shoot, but I can see how some people would like to have beautiful photos of themselves in beautiful clothes.

It looks like shit because it's an half assed attempt at being professional. The face on the close up is edited alright, but the overall exposure is pretty awful and the lights are unbalanched, and someone was too lazy to give the rest of the picture the same amount of edit as they spend on skin on the close up. I really, really want to like Kate's coords but they always look off to me. IW bodices can be terrrrrible. You don't have to be skinny for them to fit, you have to have no boobs. They're so tube-shaped that they don't have much of a bust curve to them at all, and I've ended up selling all but two of the JSKs I've bought from them because of that reason. I have nothing against striped tights/socks but if they are used wrong they can throw off the balance.
And they are often used by itas so they kinda have a bad "rep" now.
They work well in old school and sailor type coords, I personally think they look cute.

This would look better with dark bown shoes, pink socks and a pink blouse. That top hat has to go, replaced with a nice headbow (if there's no matching one I'd say pink but preferably brown) and she really needs to style her hair better or wear a wig.

The first being that it is a fashion and things like this are ridiculous. It's like wearing a piece to a costume randomly added to street clothes. It doesn't make sense and wouldn't be comfortable to wear anyway.

She is cute, but the blouse is too big. She seems a bit too petite in the clothes. A smaller blouse, maybe an off white one. A fuller petticoat will make the dress not look like it's too long for her. Also, the green beret doesn't really work. If it were a shade darker it could. It also looks a bit plain sitting there. A cream colored rose clip would make it look more interesting. The wig also needs to be fluffed and styled a little, and the bangs trimmed. A dark brown accent at her chest, like a brooch or pin or something would tie in the dark foot wear as well. I think changing these things would make a world of difference.

Her coords are pretty nice for someone that just started the fashion. She has lots of money from being a model so I'm sure she'll have plenty of coords to see in the near future. IMO it looked a lot worse with it unbuttoned because it has this weird curved collar that makes it hang oddly. I agree that the cardigan is utter shit, I'm not happy about it at all. I was experimenting with making a cutsew with an organza collar and sleeves and had a massive mishap with the sleeves, so I ended up making it into a dickie and threw on the cardigan as an afterthought. The bow sat really awkwardly and I won't be making that mistake again, promise. The wig, idk. I like it a lot even though I don't get to wear hime styles all the time. Perhaps I should try a different style of hime wig with a smaller bump? I've tried combing this one down to no avail.

As for the weight problem well...what can I say? Yeah, I'm fat. I'm pretty sure we've been over this a couple times because I've self-posted once or twice, but yes, I'm a very fat person and I hate it. I was doing really well with my weight loss last fall until I got smacked in the fact with some pretty serious health issues. I won't go into detail on them because I know you people don't give a shit to hear me whine, but for a little while I made the mistake of blaming these issues for my weight rather than blaming my weight for these issues and I ended up gaining back everything I lost and then some. I'm in a better mindset now and while I know that losing this weight can't fix all of my problems, it certainly can't hurt. I'm working on getting my routine down again so I can be healthier and recover faster from my other treatments. All I can really do is thank /cgl/ because you all have been my biggest weight loss inspiration. It probably would have never really "clicked" with me on how badly I needed to lose weight if I hadn't come here.
