I'm Indonesian, I have brown skin. I see clothes and I say I'd love to wear that, but I can't because my dark skin. I see white girls and asian girls everywhere in cute clothes, but not often girls my skin tone. In my head, I can't be pretty because I'm too dark, it would look bad. Seeing girls that look like me looking fine as fuck is definitely motivating.

It's because the image presented to us of someone wearing Lolita is usually someone white or asian, and even the Japanese models have light skin. People are still racist af when it comes to black girls wearing it, if you've ever seen the secrets or loitered here long enough it's fairly easy to see.

It's not even saying "black girls are the MOST kawaii and everyone else looks like shit". It's just a little boost for the girls who might think that they're not supposed to wear the fashion. If that's bothering you, then I guess there's no shovel big enough to get rid of your sand.

I really appreciate this but it seems like a lot of people don't get it at all. I am very vocally anti sjw (and white) but this is one of the things I will stand up for. Yes, if a person made a page called "white people are kawaii" it would not be cool. This though? This is fine and simply uplifting for any group that gets picked on more than others. I don't understand why we can't find a happy medium between picking on sjws and helping people when it really counts. The difference is that you do see a few troll secrets and posts every now and again talking about "mayo whitebread gross white people" but those are clearly trolls to us. But if in the past we had commonly been called rude names because we are white and are only now just overcoming that, it would hurt a lot more even if it was a troll. Black here, I don't do face book communities or anything so I don't know how cringe worthy this place is but I do enjoy seeing pages and pics of just black girls dressed in jfashion gathered in one place. It's easier to go through and figure out what looks good and what doesn't for my hair and skin tone because searching for "black jfashion" and "black lolita" pulls up few results of actual black people and more black in color of clothes.

On that note, this is now a jfashion thread of dark skin. Anyone know any tags, websites, or groups I can look for just so I can get more pics? Don't care about community itself.

I really don't understand. Granted, I come from a small town so what do I know? Does anyone actually say these things to black people interested in lolita/cosplay? I have never heard anyone say anything ever, and if they do they're doing it to troll. Where I live the most fashionable people are generally black and literally nobody cares how they dress. Are you in the US? If so, racism levels it varies per state. I'm in Texas myself which is supposed to be racist as fuck, but I live in Austin where it's the complete opposite and generally everyone is accepting and hippies.

I live in ATL, which is a generally more accepting and hipsterish area than anywhere else in Georgia. I've gone up to Northern GA /Southern South Carolina for backpacking and camping trips. Unhinged drunk rednecks with guns are the most volatile people and can be blunt about their feelings towards you. Everyone else is more hush hush about it. This is just in general.

The only times I'd consider wearing jfashion would be if I'm going to a really hipsterish or artsy location.

I'd like it a lot better if it were "black girls can be kawaii too" or something. Declaring an entire race of people to be X or Y just doesn't sit right with me. Not every black girl wants to be kawaii, right? If it were "Asian girls are kawaii" then everyone would (rightly) be getting up in arms about fetishation. I don't know, to add the qualifier "too" makes the statement seem like a plead to me. They seem to have been careful enough to choose the term "can be" instead of "are" specifically because not every black girl is trying to be kawaii. It seems like they are asserting a fact to themselves and others, which isn't wrong, it just is what it is. I don't think people would be upset if there was a page called "Asians girls can be Kawaii" or "White girls can be Kawaii". The fact is, those pages aren't needed because, asian girls are usually ascribed the term 'cute' as a descriptor (not saying it's right or wrong) and white girls as a default beauty standard are usually ascribed positive descriptors. It's similar to Simone Beauvoir's discourse on the default human and women as the 'other' sex, except extended to race. That's just how I read into it though.

Making pages like this doesn't affect outside views, and just because X group is called kawaii more often doesn't actually mean all of them are called that or that people telling them that means anything. This is just another one of those things that people think is missing, that they think is important and will change something when it's not. If you think you're actually kawaii, you'll think you are no matter your race and you don't need validation, but chances are that if you do need validation you'll end up feeling the same way regardless because you don't actually believe it yourself. It's not a race thing, it's a universal self-esteem issue.

I don't think anyone is trying to externally validate themselves by using these pages. It should just be viewed as a statement of support from the presumably black creators to affirm an already internally held belief. That's why no one is using it for external validation, but rather color-tone /tutorial /tips if the comments here are anything to go by.
