I've been to the official party for MCM to know it is crap, especially if it is the same one at the Novotel bar.

From a lot of the events I've been to outside on the steps and grass is where the cool stuff happens and I've been around long enough to have seen a few idiots swing off the top of the statue, fit the ground and lose some brains a few times.

Also had a nice Saturday night for the MCM event in October last year.

The Fox bar can also be good and I had a good experience from when I went to the London Super Comic Con no too long where the main highlight was some underage teen guy keep trying it on with older girls and threating to start fight with guys. He earned the name Jail Bait.

The thing about the official party is not a surprised. Worst down fall was that it is a limited environment with fewer groups of people to socialise with.

I remember being around last October on Sunday evening, not particularly late. Already people were in their groups drinking beer and smoking etc. There was rubbish everywhere and this poor guy in a high-vis jacket comes along with one of those metal clamp things and starts putting the lot in a bag.

Funny how that night in October was perceived in relation to my own.

For me I met two guys and a lesbian couple within the first 2 hours of the evening, hanged out, went into the hotel for a bit and generally had a good night.

Are you local? Johnny Reaper is pretty well known in the east midlands con scene, mostly because I think they're like a mascot for J-Con, but I've chatted with them at Lucky Con too. I guess the outfit is pretty cringey, but they're a cool person actually. Not really an idol, they just mill about with everyone else most of the time, sometimes they do some stuff on stage too but I've never hung around that late to watch in person.

I went there and I went to the anime club in my first year. All people did was turn up, watch anime, then go home. It was OK. They showed a mix of more unusual recent stuff and some old Gundam and Leiji Matsumoto stuff iirc.

You need a 'fan base' and some 'credibility'. So make some well made cos, get some good photos and enter some competitions.

You'll be successful eventually, though the reason people slut it up is building audience with good costumes alone is slow and expensive. Additionally it'll help if you are relatively attractive

Goalwise, I want to recreate the simple textured, sort of cell shaded look of the games. Knowing nothing about make-up, I'm thinking lots of foundation, with some sort of eyeliner to do the cell shading to bring out features like wrinkles and such. Got some chalk hair colouring that works really well with the beard, dries dark grey at the roots and lighter at the tips, much like the character model, so I'm pleased with that. If the base make-up works well, I was thinking of doing the injured version to make it more distinct, but that's probably beyond me with my current skills.
