I've worn my Figment bound a few times.

I always hear that dressing up as a character forces the park to have you change into something else because some kid can legitimately think you are that you work there and shit can occur. (save for disney Halloween then you can dress up as any character). I've also heard of lolitas being told to look more casual. But whenever I go there, there are people dressed up like a performer, Alice, or Tink. I guess it just depends if a supervisor catches you.

Every time i go to a Disney park its extremely easy to pick out who most likely has a tumblr just by the way they dress.(even when they're not dressed as Disney bound) Ive seen tons of Disney bounders as well and only a few have been cute and well executed. There is 5 atrocious disney bound outfits for every good one though.

They're actually a lot more relaxed now.
While I used to like Disneybounding, now it's cancer. It's literally become wearing half a cosplay and a character wig and acting like it's cool. I honestly think that if you wear any costume piece other than a small accessory (necklace, hair bow, hair clips etc.) it's super tacky.
But ya, unfortunately they will pretty much let someone in in costume if they don't have a legit wig, or in a legit wig if they're not wearing a good costume.

Normal clothes in the characters colors are fine. I even don't care if it's a casual wig in the same color as the character.

I'm doing a Bill Cipher Disneybound in a couple weeks.

I'm going to Disney's Frozen on ice with my cousin and her 3 year old niece. The kid will wear her Elsa costume but I wanted to pull something together for her mother and I.

I like frilly, cutesy, cgl-approved things and modesty but I'm brown skinned and make a perfect Esmerelda with my hair and all. I don't have any idea how to pull off something cute and well coordinated between the three of us.

I go to Disney World pretty often and my local comm wears lolita there a lot. They've never been bothered as far as I can tell.

It wasn't really Disneybounding but I went to Universal and Magic Kingdom Orlando a few weeks ago and there were SO MANY Dr Who bounders/people.

I saw a good 20 girls in Tardis dresses and a few dressed as different Doctors. (Some were even in the blazers and I was confused as to why they would brave the Florida heat to seem cool). I kinda get Universal for the "we're in London!!" photo op, but Islands and Magic Kingdom confused me.

I've been to Disney plenty of times with friends, but it is so refreshing to be able to go on any ride I want and not have to travel a bunch of useless distances for my friends. Plus there's no pressure to grab food when you're not hungry.

If you live in SoCal by any chance, I really recommend looking up BB Dakota's sample sale days (next one should be in June). I think the dress price is $15 (the sample size is a 4 usually, but since this is an older design, there might be some sized garments in the warehouse). Lace dresses like this also pop up around winter and spring.

I'm confused. The concept behind Disneybound is being inspired by Disney characters/movies/songs/whateverDisney to create outfits/outfit sets. The concept is not "create a Disney outfit inspired by (Disney whatever) and people must recognize this outfit otherwise your outfit is a failure!" Check out even the "official" disneybound sets. If someone wasn't specifically telling you what they were, you wouldn't have any clue what most of them were trying to be. "Uhh a blue top, blue shorts, some sparkly eyeshadow and a star necklace is Cinderella's fairy godmother? Sure, honey..."

While some people do try to translate character's costumes into more literal outfits that are more like closet cosplay than anything else, many of them are something that no one who didn't know that a, you were Disneybounding and b, what you were Disneybounding would probably guess.

Look at this outfit Disneybound posted all the way back in 2011. It's not an attempt to make park-friendly cosplay, it's an inspired outfit. There's also a number of messages she answered in the early days where people made nitpicks (like "but ____'s outfit doesn't have ____!!!") and she pointed out that they were just meant to be inspired, not literal.

The person that runs the Disneybound Tumblr jumped onto an existing trend of people creating polyvore sets inspired by characters/movies/songs/books and after creating a few of her own, decided to rebrand her blog and dedicated it solely to the concept of the "Disney" (and sometimes other) outfits.

So much this. People have the same problem with gijinkas. They just go to the thrift store or their closet and find things in the right(ish) color rather than trying to make a cohesive outfit or at least something that looks good.

Disneybound specifically refers to the concept (Disney inspired outfits, whether as a polyvore-style set or actually wearing them) as popularized by the Disneybound blog. The concept was not created by the blog, but the blog is what made it took off--hence why any of these fandom inspired outfits tend to be referred to as "disneybound" now. Although it was not really until the blog took off that more people began actively taking photos of their outfits and wearing them to the parks in any significant number.

It didn't start as slight cosplay to bypass the 10 and under rule, though, is what I'm saying. The trend of making outfits inspired by media started as just that: fashion sets inspired by media. We even had threads on /cgl/ about them, and a /cgl/ polyvore group dedicated to fandom-inspired outfits, pic related.

Were there people who made them to bypass the rule, or made them as slight cosplays (whether they were going to the parks or not)? Sure. But it didn't "start" that way, nor is the concept, pre-Disneybound or otherwise, rooted in bypassing park rules about costumes.
