There are a few young Fool cosplayers out there on the web. Many of them are too...anime I guess? For me at least.

On the one hand, I am mad jelly at some of the gigs the Game of Thrones cosplayers have gotten. Been on TV, invited to premiers, being used as promo stuff. I'd love that kind of opportunity.

Alas none of my fandoms have that kind of output/media interest so it's likely never to happen and cba spending money and time making cosplays from something I don't care about just for the above. I can spend the money on other things.

But I feel like having been given these opportunities it puts people on a pedestal. And more and more I see people hording success as much as they can get it. They're quite happy to nod and smile (kind of) at people telling them how great they are, but it's like some big secret that they were just in the right place at the right time.

I'm not against people taking opportunity when it knocks just a shame to see people getting so worked up about preserving it that they exclude other people.

What irritated me about the GOT group is that when the 'rules' were shared by others voicing their distaste, rather than them going 'that's terrible, who the fuck in the group wrote this' or distinctly distancing themselves, they either kept mute or some of them got all defensive and starting having a go at people commenting on it.

To me that reads they're just as bad as the rules suggest, even if the rules were written by one person.

For starts, these rules have now been written without my knowledge, and surely that would make you question if you were in the group at all?
Then they're making it look like I, by being in the group, agree with that. Which I don't wouldn't because I'm not SJW.
Then if my costume had taken hours of work, and was quality, and was then said to be the same quality as some of the others, like the Arya wearing jeans, or people using the cheapest materials in the shop, who don't even know how wigs work. Thats gotta be insulting.
I have a few other issues about the whole thing. But they can't have a go at the person who screen shotted the rules and brought attention to them, because the page had 300ish like, so 300ish people could have started the drama going before then. If press had found that, they would have been royally fucked. They’re saying the screenshot takes the rules out of context, but the rules shouldn’t need context.
Also, the leader was posting the group everywhere, did no one else in the group have the idea to go and look at the page? It seems they all had a lot of blind faith. 20ish members and no one looked. It's kinda their own fault for not looking, rather than bitching about the person who just showed everyone else how shitty the rules were.

It happens a lot in groups like this. I think they think they're the 501st or something. Some of them are okay, some are just not.

Thing is a good GoT costume is still pretty basic compared to other costumes (99% of the time) so it's not hard to do it well. And they've done (mostly) mediocre jobs of low difficulty costumes. It's just they think they're the shit because of the group.

I'd actually like to re-shuffle the group and re-cast them as characters they actually look like.
There are a few in the group who are genuinely good cosplayers shame the group averages out at a 6/10.

This con has just popped up on my FB. It's a month after Alcon, so I'm not really sure how many people will show and how successful it will be. I'm getting a little bit weirded out by the sudden influx of [small town name here] Comic Con.

The venue is a theatre, it's ok for smaller conventions but a bigger con? Hmm...

I think on one hand they're good because some people can't deal with the huge crowds of bigger cons like London, and they also bring back a feeling of community rather than a free for all market like MCM has become. There was a good " Comic Con" in Leicester ( It wasn't related to this one) that actually focused on comics and artists. They used a small empty shopping arcade and let comic artists pitch they tables in the shops. I wouldn't call it a " con" more a festival but it was a good use of the space, something different but the organizer has put it on hiatus this year.

If he comes back, he might want to change the name due to this new event. Leicester Comic Festival sounds fine to me, a lot of other shops in that area joined in, offered discounts and such. It's the " arty" area of town.

GoT costumes strike me as so bland. Even the patterned ones. The detail is only in the fabric. Even as lovely as the gowns are you just look like you're wearing an expensive renaissance fair outfit.

I think I've only seen Cersei on some amazing gown with breathtaking embroidery but no one wants to make that effort so they all go for a crimson gown with dagged sleeves.

The costumes as described in the books are stunning compared to what we get in the show.

IDK there are a lot of videographers filming as many cosplayers as possible. I know that Smile250 tries his best to put anyone in a video who asks him. They're all doing a decent job.

Because those guys are holding the fort on showcasing what's out there, it's nice to see something fresh that focusses on character and fun.

I saw some spartans and some halo spartans having an epic face off for one of their videos one year. Took like an hour to get it all set up and them to shoot over and over again.

The Game Of Cosplay group has several award winning members or just those who choose not to compete in competitions and do it for the love. The costumes are screen accurate and the standards are extremely high so I do wonder whether people posting on here are mad because they can't be a part of the group or have tried to form similar groups but have been unsuccessful.

Thing is being an 'award winning' cosplayer only counts for so much. We've had cosplayers win competitions in the UK, big and small prizes, with their first cosplay or first few.

Unless the cosplay itself has won the award the credentials of the wearer are irrelevant. Either the piece speaks for itself or it doesn't.
