I used a matte lightweight apparel pleather for mine and I like how it turned out, except for the cut of the shoulder. I did have to draft my own pattern for it though.

What Yu-Gi-Oh! costumes are people planning/working on currently?

I'm working on Yuzu outfit bingo (or well just each of their defaults and maybe one or two of Serena's ending costumes) from Arc-V and I'm finally gonna tackle one of my dreams and do Yugi next year (I've always been too intimidated by the wig). And I've told some friends who want to do Kaiba that I'll cosplay Mokuba with them. There are too many YGO costumes I wanna do.

You should just go for it. I think it's super cool to see monster cosplays, especially lesser done ones. Most people won't recognize them unless they play themselves, but they'll still think you look cool. I realize I should probably feel old and out of place for liking yugioh so much despite not being a 12-year-old boy, but it's much more important to me that I enjoy it and that it makes me happy. Fun shit is fun, etc.
And if you're watching Arc-V and want to take advantage of being black and pushing thirty for cosplay purposes, the recent eps have a character for that.

Not currently working on one but very soon. I've got half my stuff for past life Nasch and the other half in the mail, I'm dreading the wig. Cosplaying Yuri later in the year and want to get around to doing Dark Signer Kiryu, who I've been wanting to cosplay since 5D's was airing.

I hope you can get a Shun cosplayer to go with your Ruris. Their outfits are so cute.It's great that you're getting around to doing your dream yugioh cosplay, can't say I blame you for being intimidated by the wig, it's not something I ever want to try do.

Pic related. I made the fin and the bottom skirt part one piece, and made a separate fin piece to sew on to the bodice. Sorry if that doesn't make sense. Hopefully the picture makes more sense that my words.

I've done Mai Valentine's Battle City costume, Jounouchi's Battle City costume, Kaiba, and Yuzu's first outfit in the past and I'm planning on fixing up the Yuzu and Kaiba. Plus I'm planning on doing Kurosaki Shun (both default and D-Wheels outfits) and possibly Crow, since I play a lot of winged beast decks and my friends want me to cosplay every winged beast user. I'm also working on a Yami Yugi wig for a friend so we'll see how that goes. So much Yu-Gi-Oh cosplay.

Actually, not as much wire as you would think! I was planning on putting wire around the entire thing, but the weight of the material I used made the skirt portion of the coat fold the way I wanted it to on its own. So the only wires are down the front of either side.

For a first attempt at wig styling, that's really good! If you do end up going back to fix up this wig, I would recommend trying to make the hair wings a little smaller to be more proportionate with the rest of your head. Other than that, I'm really digging it!

For larger wigs like that, I usually sculpt the bulk of the shapes out of craft foam, cover the craft foam in wig fiber, then stitch the craft foam into the wig. It adds the volume without adding too much weight.

See if you can salvage any longer wefts from other parts of the wig where they wont be missed, if you can't try moving the wig forward on your head so that when you style the V shape, it'll sit low enough.

Malik's actually not "effeminate" like he's perceived so there's no way a girl could ever cosplay him well. Women just lack the sharp features, low body fat, and trisangular shape. Unfortunately it seems like guys are more interested in cosplaying his Yami.

I like that they did the manga version rather than the anime version, and I like that they didn't fuck up the eyeliner like most cosplayers do, and that the wig colour is more accurate than what I usually see, but it's not even close to what I'd consider "good".

Malik is one of those simple thrift-able cosplays so you really have to pay attention to detail (like how the ends of the shirt chains should be silver, not gold).
