Also I have a quick question, it's my first time ordering from tenshishop. On the form for a Japan Auction, what does second auction mean? Like does it mean try for a second auction if you don't win the first or you'll be ordering from more than one auction?

Nah, the first release of Misty Sky had cgl calling it "windows background" or "pyjama fabric" and a lot of girls scratching their heads over why people liked it. It sold out anyway, and someone did try to make a jsk from actual pyjama fabric (it looked funny. The fabric was too stiff and the clouds too big and graphic). First re-release some of us were in disbelief that the thing sells out for a second time, it's just clouds man, no one knows why some girls want it that badly.

By now we're just bored of saying the same things we were saying when the first release and the first re-release came out. So all that's left as the ones who are excited over it to make all the noise.

So yeah, you're basically just late to the shit-on-misty-sky party, that's all.

I've been watching the taobao page for a while, the pictures for the new releases were up for a bit and these listings are new (less than two weeks old, I think?) so there's not really a way I could have missed the reserve.

They've had nothing but some blouses and a skirt for the past while. These are new.

I'm not sure where to post this.
I just ordered the jewlery jelly op in pink, and I'm excited, because it was my first dream dress, and I got it for like $100.
I've never had an OP with a neck like that before, and I'd honestly feel better with a high neck. And though I've seen blouses under OPs, that sounds like puff sleeve hell.
My two ideas were to either wear a (quality) t-shirt with one of those detachable peter pan collars, or to buy a t-shirt and cut off the bottom half to make a collar and sew it on the top. I'm iffy about both. Does anyone have some advice?

Depends on what you mean by "classic lolita" and "not a Japanese M, not a hamplanet".

For dresses that look like the ones in your pic, Innocent World makes some of that style of onepieces in Japanese L size, which goes up to shoulder width 38cm, bust 90-ish cm, waist 78-ish cm (sort of rough estimate). One thing they don't tell you, though, you had better be 160-ish cm or shorter -- the average height of the Japanese girl is around 155, 158cm. So if you're much taller than that, it means that the bust darts will end up on your shoulders, and you will be trying to squeeze your actual busts into the waist of the dress instead. Very bad idea.

If you're about 170-ish cm tall, but don't mind jumperskirts, then go for IW long jumperskirts -- the shoulder straps always have a button you can move further along the strap to gain more length in the bodice, and the bodice itself is always one inch longer than the medium length jumperskirt version. Be warned though, IW really likes boxy bodices, your bust should be C cup or smaller (even C cup might run into problems with some specific jsks).

If you don't mind a slightly different style, JetJ also goes up to that size, but it looks nothing like what you posted -- JetJ kind of do their own "classic lolita" style, or whatever JetJ is.

For blouses, you can try Metamorphose, they have a rep for being a "fatty chan" brand, but that means their blouses are big enough to fit those of us who aren't a Japanese M size. You can also keep an eye on their site, every brand sometimes makes things that are a bit unusual, so even Metamorphose can end up making some dresses that look classic-ish.

>> No.8386788

>>8386785

2/2

If you're still taller or bigger than that, then it's time to go for taobao or indie brands instead of Japanese brands. Try clobba -- he's a taobao reseller, and he carries a few taobao brands that do custom-size clothes. He speaks decent English, accepts paypal and ships internationally, so you should no problems with him.

Alternatively, you can try looking up Lady Sloth or Glitter Tale (glittertalelolita) (both on facebook), these two indie brands make clothes to custom sizes, Glitter Tale accepts custom design commissions as well.

As a last resort, if you think your size is really difficult to shop for, you can look for a local seamstress/tailor and have them make something for you. Start them easy on just a simple blouse, then work your way up to some of the more complicated designs you like.

Good luck anon, hope you find something that you like and it fits you well.

I'm guilty of this when I wear it casually. I only have 2 blouses and a few accessories, and I don't want to spend hours deciding on what to wear with my daily coords

>> No.8387139

>>8386998

I wear lolita almost daily, and with those coords there are some I repeat very often -- I think someone has pointed out that I somehow always pair a particular jsk with a black bolero -- not even on purpose, it's just the way I like to wear it. There's another dress that always ends up being paired with white boleros too. It does save on thinking too hard when all you want to do is get out the door and get on with life.

It's different for meetups, though. Usually I can tell how much I'm looking forward to a meetup by how early I try to plan things, and how much energy I can devote to it. If it's a meh meetup in a meh location and the girls I get along with have all bowed out, then I get very lazy about the coord, I can't make myself think about what I'm going to wear... and sometimes, I do make up an excuse and bow out of the meetup myself. I don't see the point in showing up and being bad company to other girls just because I didn't really want to be there.

If it was a meetup I'm really excited about though, I'd usually start my coord weeks before, have multiple options for it, try things on to see if the layering works out, road test hair and makeup and so on. Then the night before, I will have everything all laid out, or packed up and ready to go, so that on the day itself I just need to put it all and go.

This isn't a regular non-print dress, the amount of extra ruffles and lace on the dress and the extra bits on the cape should really have tipped you off. This dress is one of btssb's made-to-order bridal-type dresses to begin with, so to start with it's already pretty rare as not a lot of girls put in for the dress due to the price tag.

The price tag for the dress itself was pretty high when it first appeared, too:

http://lolibrary.org/apparel/arietta-princess-ball-op
http://lolibrary.org/apparel/arietta-princess-ball-cannotier

Going from 1.2mil yen to 1.4mil yen is nowhere near the 250% jump for some other aatp releases like Elizabeth, and considering how rare the dress is, this isn't so surprising.

What kind of media are you looking for, though? Broadcast media or does print work as well? Also, I'm guessing you mean representation of lolita from outside the community by "big" media (TV networks, mainstream newspapers, etc) rather than informal media (like YouTube videos).

Here is a recent video about the NY lolita comm: http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/international-lolita-day-streets-new-york-article-1.2250859

There's also that "Are All Men Pedophiles?" documentary (I think it's called that) that featured a photo of a girl dressed in lolita who didn't know her picture would be used for that. And I feel like there was another reality TV show-esque staged show where there was an episode featuring a lolita as one of the"crazy" people on it.. but I can't remember it. anyone?

Really though, you won't find much about lolita fashion. It's not big enough in the US to catch much media attention. If you're doing this for a paper, it would be much easier to look at self-representations of lolita by "e-famous" lolitas, like LovelyLor, Peachie, etc. especially the ones that have "what lolita is and isn't" tutorials.

If you are okay with 'informal' media and still want to deal with outside representations of lolita, you should look at that anti-lolita tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzSVLYS-HZE)) that got a response from someone who wears lolita (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y55g13kqjjA).).

Post on FB too to see what other peeps can dig up, I'm sure there are at least a few short (and probably hilariously incorrect) articles on lolita running around.

I bought a polka dot jsk from a friend for relatively cheap, but I've come to realize that the reason why I got it for a bargain might be because the dots and cotton collar on it appear slightly yellowed. gulls, consider this situation:
>all of your dream dresses are technically available for good prices, but not in the top cuts/colorways you want. however, you may settle for the currently available cuts/colors.
>all of the cuts/colorways you prefer most seem to be the rarest to the point where they take months to a year or more to even show up.
>this leaves wardrobe building stagnant as you decide which dress to get next, if any.

what do? since this is my situation atm and i'm trying to build a wardrobe, but the lack of preferred cuts/colorways is making things pretty difficult...

for example, my current dilemas:
>want AP JSK in pink, AP JSK in red is available, red is a secondary/third choice but it's also a gorgeous colorway really
>want AP OP in mint, AP JSK in mint is available, but for a higher price than typical (still a good price though).

I settle quite a bit, particularly if it's a good deal. For instance:

>Want AatP JSK in navy, only seen it sold once for $400. Get offered the skirt without the waist ties for $100. Take it and am thrilled.
>Want JSK in black or green, sells for $500+. Find skirt in wine for $200. Love it, but won't reject the other colorways.

Basically if the piece is rare enough and expensive enough I'll settle quite a bit. Think about what you want, what would go with your wardrobe as a whole (eg don't buy something that matches nothing just because it is there), and decide what you're willing to settle for. Most of my dream dresses and wishlist are fairly uncommon, generally expensive, and in a style that is very prone to damage, so I'll always compromise on something. I just weigh the pros and cons.

>> No.8391515

>>8391365

Depends on how much money you have, how well the alternate colourways/cuts fit you, how obssesed you are, and whether it comes up very often/very rarely.

I've settled on alternative colourways, and in some cases the alternate worked out much better, especially when I was new and didn't know which cut to avoid or which colourways would make me look bad.

I have to tell you, though, all except three times I felt rather dissatisfied and eventually hunted down the cut and colourway I really wanted. One time the cut and colourway I wanted came up directly after I'd spent money on a different cut/colourway. I kicked myself so hard.

So, if you're very set on those specific cuts/colourways, I'd say only settle if you have extra cash. That way you can still buy the cut/colourway you wanted if it did pop up. This goes double if it's a rare print, because you may only see it for sale one time, it would suck to miss it just because you spent money on the second colourway instead.

If it's not something you're very fussy about, or something that comes up for sale throughout the year, then settle for the second colourway instead, the preferred colourway will probably come up for sale if you still want it enough to continue stalking the markets for it.

Absolutely do not settle for a colourway that does not suit your skintone.

Ideally I'd like to make a small/medium and large size of each piece to show quality, details and how they'll look on the different body-types, then have MTO reservations - That way it's less out-of-pocket for stock, and it's going to have a better fit for a customer.

It just feels like poor management. They ask prices that are very high for one dress (and lets face it, this fashion is niche and demands high quality so I understand why) but yet they can't get one intern to clean up their page.

This is multiple companies and multiple brands, so it's extra odd that so many balls are being dropped (inb4 that's what she said). It's an easy copy-paste job to put them back up too, so it just feels super lazy.

>>8392102

What shop are you looking at? Baby, AP, Meta and JetJ have all restocked before, just probably not the item that you're looking at.

Some shops leave the links up for the conveninence of customers who come back to see what they bought. The sold out listings serve as historical information, but it also serves as a gallery of sorts, so new customers can see what other releases the brand has done during the year. Otherwise if you go to the AP store you'd think they only ever did solid dresses, because most of their prints have sold out (and by your demand should be removed), which is misleading.

Some shops don't do maintenance every day, so they'll do like a "springcleaning" with the changing of the seasons and take down the outdated sold out items then.

And then there are taobao shops, where the system works entirely differently -- you can actually "book" listings without selling anything. It may not be possible to take down a listing until the stock is gone or the expires, so a lot of shop owners simply change the price to a preposterous amount like 999999 to indicate that an item is no longer for sale.

>> No.8392116

>>8392109
Well then don't keep the links? It's really selfish to think that brands are going to just take down their listings just because you missed out on something and you're mad about it. It's not a matter of cleanup, it's a matter of making sure that people can still find the source of a specific item even if it's no longer available, so that counterfeiters can't come in and be like "yeah this was our product all along!". They can't bank on lolibrary or hellolace to be up to date and accurate with their information, they have to be able to prove for a period of time that the item was indeed theirs.

You are such a raging cunt. Anon is right in that it is frustrating to come up against these listing issues, when if the sellers kept a spreadsheet and a folder for images, creating new listings would be as simple as ctrl c > ctrl v. Keeps their sites clean and makes it easier for buyers to find what they're looking for, and thus buy them faster. You can't tell me that these cluttered dead listings don't at all reduce their sales margins. Second hand listings are really bad about it too, dead cluttered links make up the majority of lots of shops. It's very common.

>> No.8392119

>>8392115

Adding one more reason: If you go to a webshop because you saw a teaser photo on facebook or tumblr and the listing isn't up there on the shop, then you know it hasn't been released yet. On the other hand, if they take down every release as its sold out, you'll be right back here bitching about not being able to know whether an item has been released and is sold out, or if it's going to be released later. So, it's better to leave the sold out listings in case someone is late to the party and comes looking for older items, not knowing that they've sold out.

I'm fine with seeing "Sold out since 2013" if it were in a section clearly labeled as such. If a company wants to keep records of their old stuff, or their recent stuff that's sold out, great! More power to them! A portfolio is so handy to have!

But putting dead links in the "for sale" section is cluttered and annoying. Especially when they've been dead for a long time.

>> No.8392135

It works inefficiently, that's how. It would take a whole 30 minutes to set a system up, and even less time to run it smoothly. Plenty of indies and high fashion folks do it all the time, and for that matter so do plenty of other lolita shops.

AP puts a big "sold out" banner over those items which are completely sold out. If there's no "sold out" sign, that means one of the colourways is still available for order, which means they can't take down that listing anyway.

They *do* have a gallery for all their exclusive prints, on the left under the categories they list all their print series one by one. With their current system you can click on the links and view both items that have sold out, and items that have not, side by side. So if you liked, say, Milky Cross, when you come back to view the gallery, it'll show you that all the main pieces are completely sold out in all colours, but in case you missed it, there's still some accessories that aren't completely sold out.

Your suggestions is double or triple the amount of work to manually copy the page to another section of the site, and then redo the links so that they work right. And let's face it, no matter how expensive the dresses are, moving the links around on a site isn't worth squat. I'd much rather the money I spend on a dress goes towards hiring someone to tend to my order, pack and ship the dresses to me ASAP, rather than pay someone to move things around on their site.

They're one of the ones that clean up their sites prior to sales, and at the end of seasons. If you look in the Victorian Tassels section you'll see the main pieces are all missing. They got taken down and moved around for sales, and then I guess no one put them back up again.

Honestly. I'm not very fussed about AP keeping up links of its sold out items. What I want AP to spend money on isn't webmonkeys to move their links around. What I want is AP to spend money on a better server so that I can check out properly the next time they do a big release, instead of having things fall out of my shopping cart all the time.

For my AP link, it's a purse. Not sure if they do the same banner, but it's been out and around a couple times.

For what it's worth I could be wrong about AP specifically. Totally admit that.

But it IS a problem in many lolita shops. It is annoying, and no, it's not anything so serious as to make me stop buying, but it's sloppy.

And "double or triple the work" isn't right. The first time they have to write everything, but after that they just select and copy. Moving links around takes less than 5 minutes. I used to run a shop, it's really not that hard.

Are there more important things individual shops should be focusing on? Sure, pretty likely. But just because one thing is shattered doesn't mean another isn't cracked.

>> No.8392164

Right? There's things that are legit complaints about AP's site, like the fact that it keeps going down on every major release, items in your cart aren't yours until you check out, it will return you to freaking page 1 of 3 everytime one single item drops out of your cart, forcing you to start over again and again and again, now those are legit frustrations from those of us who know how these brands work, meet them more than halfway by following their rules, and yet still face so many problems due to their server and their checkout system.

And these newbies are moaning just because a "sold out" sign offends their feelings. Sheesh.

Yes, the sold out listings should stay. Go back and read my other comment. Several times I've sent links to friends saying "see what I bought!". Three times this year alone I've went back to the sales listing to double check details on an item because it's not on lolibrary. Also, you do realize that you can code a link to autosend you to the new page? So if you've saved a link from when it wasn't sold out, and you send that link to your friends after it gets sold out, and the site has moved the item to a gallery section, the link still works.

Getting people to purchase in a more streamlined manner. Putting on a professional and well ordered site is the key to legitimacy. The better a site is to use, the more people will use it. In the case of a store, that means more people buy. It's the difference of a meat-space store having a nice clean layout, or a cluttered jumbled mess. It's a billion-dollar industry to keep meat-space stores and online stores well ordered and easy to use, because researchers have figured out that it brings big bucks back.

Lolita is niche enough that its customers are loyal, and people like you and I will continue to use those sites even when it's not ideal. But it is in the best interest of business growth to make it more accessible to newfags and normals. The easier it is to navigate, the easier it is to join. The easier it is to join, the easier it is to spend.

Everyone else has ranted to high heaven about the bigger issues in the sites. Lord knows we all have struggled with them, and lord knows we all hate glitches and down servers more than dead links.

But I am a marketer dammit, and thus, I will post my petty tiny rant in a forum filled with other petty tiny rants. It wounds me that people who can make such beautiful clothes make such clunky websites. It's like seeing a pic of someone in a beautiful coord with a messy room in the background.

It's because of the Japanese concept of advertising and media, which relates back to the vertical method of writing. Vertical space in the streets is almost always filled. Signs, advertisements, you name it. In populated areas, it's crammed with words.

They apply the same thing to newspapers, magazines, and websites as well. It's the idea of practicality over aesthetic.

Some companies are moving away from that, but most are still adhering to it, because what works, works. Don't change it if it works.

The best way that I can describe it is to say go to Akihabara. Look at all the wild shops with their signs and neon lights and jam-packed displays ... and then walk down to the Apple/Mac store. It's like walking into a completely different world. Japan is, in many ways, extremely advanced. But they are also very, very strongly of the believe that if something works effectively, it shouldn't be changed, which means you get some really weird out-dated things happening.

Another example: ATMs are now open on weekends in most large cities. This is a pretty recent thing. And even in smaller cities, they'll be closed on Sundays, because ATMs are banking facilities, and banks are closed on weekends.

Polite sage for off-topic.

That's really interesting. You'd expect Japanese people to be stereotypically all over the clean zen designs. The practical aspects of printing a lot of text on one newspaper site is kind of lost on a website where space is unlimited. Maybe it's just that they like both extremes and I've only seen the busy ones.

>> No.8392350

>>8392338
Well, there's a few other factors.

Screen space is unlimited on computers, but a lot of Japanese browsing goes on via mobile phones. Space is a lot more limited, so you have to get in what you can where you can, while not overloading the browser with fancy effects.

And then there's also the language issue. It's hard to learn to code websites when it's based on a completely different alphabet from your native language. If HTML had a Japanese equivalent, you might see more experimentation beyond the late 1990s, early 2000s jam-packed pages that have worked for the past decade and a half.

One thing you'll notice about sites that look more western designed: the pages will have English names for different pages (eg: contact.php or cart.php or whatever), usually because they were grabbed from template sites.

You'll also notice that they tend to look more like Amazon from 2004 than Amazon from 2014. In general. haha

So how many of you think theres a chance of misty sky getting an mto?

I financially can afford to drop $600+ on scalper prices but I have a glimmer of hope that there might be an mto and money will go directly to ap instead of some scalper.

I'm still hopeful but with every day that passes it's a little less likely. I'm gonna give it a week after the AP SF release before I give up hope.
I managed to snag a jsk but honestly if they did MTO I would totally buy another dress, all the accessories, etc

Not the sort of song I would expect Innocent World to collab with. But 'eyyyy whatever.

I've never owned AP and I'm curious how their cardigans fit. My bust is 83 cm, but I have relatively big arms by Japanese standards. Are they likely to give me sausage arms or do they fit a little loose?

>> No.8392682

>>8392650
I have monster arms and it gives me sausage arms. My arms are huge though so if your smaller than me you would be fine.

I already sent 3 personally and got my boyfriend and 6 of my friends to do it too.
Maybe we should start a thread for misty sky mto emails.

Seconding this, scalper prices are ridiculous and the US release will leave several people unsatisfied, I've already emaild them but I never thought about making more email accounts, will ask my boyfriend to email as well.

except they're trying to be an ~edgy lolita~ tumblr network

Not so impressed with the photoshop effect on the lions and castle but the overall composition looks really good and I like the colors. The cape is adorable.

I love the green colorway of this, but it's such a strangely desaturated green that I'm not sure I would ever find anything to match it.

I fear chances are really small. I see a lot of people who got it and for thatI guess a lot of japanese Lolitas got, which are costumers they really care for.

Looks cute, but how much would it cost? People are much less willing to spend on non-printed pieces, regardless of substyle, especially on offbrand/indie. I would suggest getting a decent reputation with some more trendy items before going into what you like.

That's what I'm trying to gauge first.. Probably the upper end of $180ish.

All of the other pieces/sets that I'm working on right now are distinctly Otome and Vintage. (Which is where my target audience really lies.)

Has anyone ever asked their SS to haggle down a price on Mbok? And by a lot? There's a seller who's been reposting their stuff at the same scalpy prices for at least two years. They have an uncommon skirt that I really like but it's not worth even half of what it's priced at. Should I even bother?

>> No.8393639

Don't bother. Haggling isn't a thing with shopping services and pretty much no one will even entertain the idea.

Oh shit, this dress.

My friend bought the same one, and it was fucking awful quality. The fabric was really thin and felt strange, it didn't have nearly enough poof, and the placement of the print was really fucked.

I just wouldn't recommend F+F in general. I know some people have had good experiences with them, but why take the chance?

I think you'd be better off with a pretty Taobao dress.

I sort of picture a coord with it in black x green, an all-green coord would look weird, I think.

If you're worried about finding accessories that match that green, just get the ones from this series. If creativity is a big thing for you, remember that you don't have to wear the accessory together with this dress, it's just nice that you can fall back on that accessory if you can't find anything in the same shade of green, than what Metamorphose produced for this series.
