>I think the cosplayers that share their processes and make tutorials are awesome and great for the community, but i honestly don't have the patience or time to hold a strangers hand

My nigga. I'm an experienced cosplayer and I get a lot of questions about my costumes but at some point I got so tired of helping strangers who basically wanted a carbon copy of my costume that I stopped answering them. Asking for patterns, detailed instructions for difficult parts, what materials I used, where I got X, Y and Z, etc. I spent countless hours and sleepless nights figuring this shit out and I'm not obligated to just give out cheap answers so that you could just rip off my work without even reblogging/following/giving me something in return. These assholes barely even complimented my costumes.

I naturally pissed off some people for this, but I hate how novice cosplayers somehow assume that it's my responsibility to spend my time instructing them and holding their hands while they learn to use a a sewing machine. People have become so fucking spoiled and entitled that they don't want to do any work on their own at all, they just want tutorials and easy answers for everything. Of course I help out every now and then and answer actual questions about materials or techniques that AREN'T plain out saying "hi, I saw your costume and I want to emulate it completely".

That being said I still respect people who make tutorials and offer their time to the community. I'm just not that kind of a person because I don't have enough patience or generosity.

Something like this happened to me once.
I made some pouches for a cosplay of mine and posted the end results on tumblr and instagram, nothing special there. Previous to that, I had spent the entire day trying to figure out how to make those shits work/look the way I wanted. I attempted a few different patterns and techniques until I got it right.

A little while after, someone asks me if I took commissions or if I could teach them how to make the pouches because they needed them, too. At the time, I didn't have time for commissions, so I made a pree'much full tutorial for them, told them what materials they needed, what materials they could replace, the pouch pattern I used, etc. I tagged them in the tutorial and everything.

Then....nothing. I never heard that from the person. No 'thank you' from them, nothing. Kinda...pissed me off and put me off helping people like that all together tbh. I should have made time for that commission. Although, a friend of mine actually put use to the tutorial, so it wasn't a complete waste. At least something...

I'm so sick of the idiots bitching about people pricing shit at its going rate. Sorry you're too cheap to spend what the rest of us are willing to on your dream dress and all you can do about it is is bawww about scalpers, as if that's the only possible reason for the mark ups, because you're too retarded to grasp the basic concept of supply and demand. Obviously, the more rare and sought after something is, the more it's going to cost. Common fucking sense.

The best part is I've seen people like this call these sellers entitled. Because selling your belongings at prices your research says are fair is somehow more entitled than telling a seller that they should give you their shit for less than what they can get because "but retail!" and a very inflated sense of self-righteousness.

People who get tons of praise and attention for doing a bunch of cosplays that all follow the same basic style.
For example, there's a male cosplayer I know that's somewhat attractive but only ever does incredibly basic costumes that don't require armor, wig styling, or even sewing. He either buys it all or gets people to make it for him and is constantly showered in attention. I just don't understand it, it's so boring to do the same shit over and over. He's also one of the people who posts huge "future cosplay" albums and only ever follows through on the easiest ones; and even then they look halfassed.

I try to only take on costumes I think I will definitely do at some point or know I can handle, and that means maybe 4 a year. I've seen people post albums on facebook in the 20s. How on earth are you going to do all those characters if you have no sewing or wig styling skill? It comes off as just "I might do this at some point so give me attention!"

I've always been tempted to scalp a new release, but never have because I think it's pretty not cool. However, now that I've been called a scalper or bitched at in some form several times over pieces that were priced based on what other people successfully sold them for (a few even being retail or less), I don't even give a shit anymore and I'm just gonna do it. My shit always sells pretty fast and I know they're just dicks in the minority, so it doesn't really effect much, but it's still annoying as fuck and enough to make me not give a shit about the questionable morality of scalping since no matter what your prices are there's going to be someone who thinks you're charging too much and has no problem being rude about it, even if every listing within a year is more than yours.

Basically, my attitude now is if you pay for it, you can price it however you want. It's silly to expect far more than the going rate, but even then, it's not like anyone's forcing you to buy from them.

Super stuck up cosplayers who go to cons and make no effort to interact with the con goers and do not show up to events and won't even give you the time of day unless you're either a famous cosplayer or someone with a camera.

You see these folks, no matter what is going on in the convention they're off in their own special snowflake group checking their photos and brushing off any types of interaction thrown their way. Bonus points if either they don't go to any events and just hit room parties or did not even get a badge.

Not saying you have to interact with everyone but if you're going to a con at least make an effort to enjoy the con.

Collectible is the right word, even lolitas call it that. The reason why people get their panties in a twist is because there are some people who do buy the new dresses just to sell them for way more once they sell out. The people who overzealously complain about scalping like to act like this is literally anyone selling a dress over retail, because they can't wrap their heads around supply and demand and the fact that brand lolita is a collectible. The truth is, scalping doesn't have nearly as much influence as they've convinced themselves.

Yeah, I think collectible is the right word, actually. People who use this argument don't understand supply and demand and are pissed that they missed getting anything in the release or are a little entitled. But the value usually drops after a while anyway, so I don't really understand it. It isn't that hard to find lolita dresses for $100 or less but some people just gotta have that print. Personally, I don't really get why people get so mad about it because the value usually drops eventually, even Sugary Carnival's value's been dropping recently, and AP's been doing re-releases of quite a few prints recently.

I have seen this and I do not like it. The attention is nice I will admit, but you're not a model who has to stay stock still or act like a doll until the event is over. There is no reason to do this. I actually find myself reluctant to approach people like that and their lack of smiling or acting like a human being makes me want to talk to them less. I've met a few who have absolute shit costumes made out of bottom weight that is falling apart, but people bend over backwards for them because they have details that make it look great from far away. Pet peeve in that it does no't enrage me, but only makes me sigh: cosplayers who wear zero makeup.

In cosplay see it happen more among men than women in cosplay, but I see it in a few women as well.

Even if you are a perfect flawless natural beauty, the sweat and oils that normally come from your skin will accumulate within the first hour of wearing that cosplay, and add a noticeable shine in your appearance. In your photos, the shine, small blemishes, and areas of redness will be even more pronounced.

Get some BB cream or foundation that matches your skin tone. Mix two different bottles if your skin tone doesn't perfectly match any one product. If you are a super-pale, there are even bottles of pure white foundation sold that are meant just for mixing and lightening up normal bottles of foundation.

Everybody -- guys, girls, and all in between -- will overall look healthier with some natural makeup.

I'm not asking you to learn2contour and have your eyes go smokey-artsy-fartsy with gold glitter eyeliner. Just have a light, natural-looking layer on. Most women who work in office settings already do it at least five days a week; people just don't notice or think about it because it's makeup meant to look natural.

Whatever gender you are is no more an excuse in this day and age. There are South Korean BB creams marketed towards men (with samples), and you can buy drug store Western brands online without setting a foot in a store. There are also nice stores like Sephora or Nordstrom where the employees are trained to guide beginners into makeup without judgment.

Makeup can look very intimidating to beginners, but there are plenty of cheap options, and there are tons of youtube tutorials available.

This many times. I wish more guys would wear legit natural makeup like BB creams targeted for their gender to cover small imperfections and eye bags even for non cosplay situations, like daily for work or free time. Also getting into some skin routine for every gender to improve skin condition and also... i wish more men use conditioner and more styling if they have a beard. Not really fond of full beards, but it would make a difference. More people need basic face care nowadays to look decent, especially for cosplay and jfashion. I love natural makeup, it looks way better in every style of clothing even lolita or cosplay (for example high schoolers) and i don't look like a joke or a drag queen.

Last con I attended half of the cosplayers there were prom dress costumes with bra straps showing. You MUST wear the proper undergarments esp a bra. I saw a lot of saggy boobs. Most of these were women and they came to a meetup. I love meetups but I dont know...It feels so lame when almost everyone bought their costumes or they barely represent the character at all. I dont want to seem like an elitist but there should be a level of quality or some requirements. When the group shot is taken it makes the rest of the group look terrible. Everyone so fucking concerned with looks. Cosplay something cause you liked the show/character/gameplay/design.

You should NEVER want to rather see everyone buy just cause you don't want to look at shit.
We all start out as shit. ALL of us. No one is amazing inside of 6 months.

You should want to see genuine fans, shitty costume or not. That's how you find your effing new friends at a con. Not because they ebayed it, but because you both like the same show enough to try and take the time to make something.

There's this guy in my comm that keeps on spamming the community page about how good his kongou (kancolle) cosplay is going to be before he even starts making. He wants to 3D print the entire fucking ship completed with rigging that makes the turrets able to move via RC. I made Haruna a while back and despite making it out of EVA foam, pvc pipes and insulation foam, it was heavy as fuck to carry around for the entire day. Just imagining the amount of weight that the 3D printed ship+ motors and what not is all together makes me shudder.

I have this one friend that is always trying to get cosplay groups together for cons. Yet the girl who always starts these groups either is finishing everything last minute so it falls apart at the con or she cancels last minute right before the con. I'm mostly mad because I always get my stuff done at least a month ahead of time for these groups and offer to help her get her stuff done but it's always

"Thank you I'll let you know if I do need help!"
Then I hear nothing from her.

3 times this has happened in the past year.

I say this can be forgiven since if they do this and study up on the source material, the only thing they can't really talk about is the gameplay. I can tell you all about Drakengard 1 but if you ask me what button was to switch characters I'd draw up blank.

I'd rather someone watch a cutscene movie over just looking at a few pictures, scrapping something together from their closet, and not knowing a thing about the source.

Yeah that's why I included the watch a playthrough part. There are some games that I really like but at a certain point I just can't continue such as Bloodborne or if it's a console exclusive game I can understand not wanting to drop a lot of cash just to buy the system for one game so you watch a playthrough instead.

Even for a game like league I can forgive if you have only read the lore or watch some games of other people playing because not everyone likes mobas.

The "me first" war in cosplay

Before it was simply who was the first person to cosplay a character when a show was released. Nowadays the minute a trailer or even CONCEPT art comes out people are already making the outfits.

I mean is it really that fun to be the first one? People have no idea how the character acts, poses or personality.
