Women typically don't put on musclemass the same way as men do without supplements or shit like steroids. Women don't have the same quantity of hormones or the body mass to begin with. Women also typically will have a higher bodyfat percentage.
One of my college fitness professors told me that, and she's a person who strength trains all the time.

Nah, get either white or reeeally light cream color. Something that cool colored is going to clash with the rest of your colors. Also get 2 or 3 of whatever wig you decide on if you want the volume to look good. I suggest cutting the top area off of one wig and just gluing it straight to the top of your main wig, it actually works very well.

It never really has been confirmed what race Amethyst is hispanic or not, but she does speak Spanish at one point, so that may be some evidence as to what she is supposed to be? The Crystal Germs all seem to be influenced by some sort of culture, so it's with that assumption that people decide that Amethyst is not white I think, rather than simply by the way she looks or racial stereotypes. Garnet is Garnet, and Pearl while seeming to be white, definitely has an East Asian influence in her clothes and weapons, and did look more so in the pilot. It's not without basis, though it is a bit overboard for people to rag on a cosplay for that reason.

I wish there were more "male" gems. I really like the show gets me in the feels, but hate all this tumblr shit. I don't want to cosplay steven or Greg and definitely not the other supporting cast.

I have to admit that I'm not strong in the real way, but we did actually pour in effort into the shoot. We only had two hours to work with as well as multiple outfit changes, so we were definitely rushing. I don't want to make excuses because the end result is what it is, but there were factors that came into play during the shoot. I would err on the side of her having at least a light purple/pink tint to her skin since all of the fusions seem to be strangely colored, but it's probably worth noting that the shadows on greg's face are purpleish as well. My father is a body builder. If he isn't flexing then his arms will look less beefy. You may be talking about basic anatomy, but when you are flexing you are flexing and you do look bigger. Also, when you turn your arm up at an angle like in the first photo you are will almost always look larger. Try it in the mirror. In the third image she isn't putting her arm at the same angle, but instead up and a bit forward, so it doesn't have the same effect. Pose in a mirror, practice this stuff yourself.

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that if a PoC cosplays Garnet, that's cool and they can use their own hair or skintone, but if a white person cosplays her, that person should paint themselves to match her onscreen skintone (reddish not brown) and do hair that's more angular and not styled like a regular afro. Is that that ok? Or should white folks just not cosplay Garnet at all?

Also, I've been thinking about cosplaying Lapis because I've never seen her outfit done to my standards. Before I do it, though, I'd like to know: how do people act around SU cosplayers and what is the community around SU like? I just watch the slow quietly on my own and don't really interact with other fans, but I've heard things can be a bit intense and I'm really not sure I want to deal with too much fuckery. Help?

No, this rarely looks good. Unless they have a ridiculous afro that they can make square, they need a wig. Skintone is more of a grey area. A maroon Garnet would go from fine to good, but visually ones who don't paint look okay (like pearls who don't lighten their skin).

Re; Stevonnie, I feel the opposite - Stevonnies have a higher percentage of okay to good ones imo.

Well, I really just think it's that the Stevonnie cosplays tend to be much better than other SU characters. Most likely because it's a much easier design than the rest. Even then, in the whole grand scheme of cosplay, they're usually mediocre at best.

I also think you need to keep in mind that a lot of Steven, Connie, and Stevonnie cosplayers look pretty young, like <14. IMO, those ones really should be judged on a different scale.

yeesh, will this picture ever stop haunting me? im the rose in this picture, and it was made a long time ago, when i had just seen lion 3: straight to video. i wasn't even planning a rose cosplay, but had just gotten this wig for olivia from FE:A and thought it would be fun to do the makeup for her. just for fun! well.. 20k notes on tumblr and countless reposts later, people are convinced somehow that this is my finished rose cosplay, for some reason. :') im actually making a rose cosplay right now, and im using a completely different wig (better color, waaay more volume, etc). its kind of irking to see people critiquing this, when id rather have critiques of my actual cosplays..? sorry if this sounds passive aggressive, im just so so so tired of seeing this picture posted without background.

other than that, the skin colour is too close to the dress colour, the wig isn't very shapely, though it can be seen as 'real hairstyle inspired by the cartoon hairstyle', and finally the paint is a bit patchy
