Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how do you guys try and increase your coording abilities? I feel like my coords are fine albeit boring at times, and I am just wearing the same thing so often.
Do you do coord challenges? Or is it better to post online and ask for concrit..? Or are there exercises you do online sometimes, like collages?

>> No.8470931

>>8470927
Making collages help and playing online dressup games is a easy why to experiment and find unexpected combination ideas.

I also find it best to keep pictures of the items I own in a easy to find place so I can consult with what I have when I decide to buy something new and try to figure out what I can make work with it.

>> No.8470933

>>8470927
I generally look to others' coord posts online. IMO it's really helpful to see how others put together outfits, as they might go about coording things in ways that I wouldn't have thought of. If I see something that I think is really creative, I save it, and I've compiled a pretty extensive inspo folder. I look at it whenever I get really stuck.
Also, shelbycloud's coord tips video is a great resource.
I only post in the coord help thread if I'm completely at a loss, as I think the best way to improve is to try to come up with things on your own.

ok, that helps a lot, thank you anons!

Another tangentially related question, how long do you plan out your coord beforehand? I guess I think about coords for really big events before i go to a thing if I have to pack, but what about for small comm meets and the like

>> No.8470961

All the time. I usually have to change the blouse because it just doesn't look right with the JSK or skirt once it's on my body and not on the hanger.

Looking at wardrobe posts and videos gives me a lot of inspiration on how to expand my own wardrobe so I can buy things that'll be more practical and "mix and match" worthy.

>> No.8471030

>>8470958
For me, I like to plan months ahead of time for a coord for a huge event (like ILD meetups) and actually buy stuff I need a week or two beforehand. However, if it's for a small meet, like dinner plus karaoke for example, then I'll usually throw together a coord based on what I have the day before. Sometimes I'll even decide my coord the day of the meetup.

>> No.8471040

>>8470927
Honestly I think coord collages suck. You get obsessive over colors that don't even match in real life and what's really important is how it looks on your body, not next to each other.

You can try using a shopping service so that the order goes through the Japanese site with the shopping cart system instead of the English one. I keep thinking if they have a shopping cart system then surely they must have stock for it, they can't be falling all over themselves explaining how each item is out of stock for Japanese customers ordering with the cart system.

I just put in an order via frmojapan for a couple of boleros this morning. I can update whether the order is successful or not if people are interested.

>> No.8471081

I already have a fromjapan order going on so that sounds like a good idea! I didn't even know they had a cart. Update with results please.

>> No.8471086

>>8471081

Yeah, the Japanese site operates on a shopping cart system. I once went almost all the way through (was going to send the items to Tenso), but they don't accept international credit cards, just a bunch of Japanese ones and COD. So we're stuck using shopping services to order from them, or the shitty English form.

Someone needs to suggest to IW that they get their site to accept international cards. If girls can order via the shopping cart system that would save us so much heartache and save IW the trouble of hiring girls to manually shift stock around for their international customers.

I hope they stay away from cluttered prints like this in the future. I don't see their weird classic-sweet prints selling out as well as their normal sweet stuff lately. I agree about the lacing on this too, anon.

Piece of cake (so long as you're not clumsy). Grab the seam ripper and pull slightly on the bow, they usually use 2-3 threads at once so it'll be pretty visible. Need some help, gulls.
>friend orders some stuff along with my order on my FJ account
>she orders a ton of heavy stuff, think tea sets, dishes, glass, among other weighty things
>stuff I ordered doesn't compare weightwise to what she does (accessories mostly, one skirt, and a few gyaru pieces)

>fast forward to now
>friend's source of the rest of the order payment is now gone, along with her need/desire for the items she ordered
>stuck with her massive order now
The time limit to keep these items in the FJ warehouse is running out and I can't exactly afford to ship out her stuff, nor do I want to. What do?

Can I just leave the items there forever and FJ will just try to resell them or are they going to try and force me to ship the rest of the stuff out plus warehouse fees?

Good! I bought their newest print Tea Society in Ivory. It seems they have switched fabrics to something more sturdy and it holds the print better, i don't think it will run. I don't know what the fabric is called but it's pretty nice. It fits me very well too. My only complaint, and i have had this with every Pep Fox dress i have owned, is that the waistband sort of pops out weirdly, like where the skirt is attached it sticks out if that makes sense. It might just mean i need to iron it or something but i usually wear a light petticoat with the dress so it balances out.

1x OP
1x JSK
1x Blouse/Cutsew

1x Lipstick in a brown red colour (sadly not blue or black)

The thing is, the girls that run these brands are friends, and they often get together outside of meets. They are both otome brands and that can lead to similarities but i don't think Kavya is trying to copy them directly. That cut of dress is pretty standard and i thought it was pretty funny that people on LU were arguing whether or not the Mulberry Chronicles dress was suitable and that it looked like it was from Hot Topic but people fawn over Pep Fox releases. I think once she does a couple more releases she might gain some popularity, i think she jumped the gun releasing a print so soon when she hasn't even released that many accessories yet. I don't think they use the same factory to produce their garments either, Pep Fox uses an overseas manufacturer iirc so it's highly unlikely. The girls both have their own personal studio where they make the accessories too, so they are all handmade. The person who's making these secrets is just salty imo.

Having a huge wardrobe really helps lol
I think it's useless to coord things before you get the dress. I personally always get a piece, and try it on with all the blouses I have that could possibly work. And by then, I'll know exactly what kind of blouse cut and color I want, and if I don't have it, I'll try to get one. Sometimes, it may look good in your mind or in a collage, but it doesn't work irl. That's happened to me multiple times.
If you're bored with the same white blouse and otks + color jsk + accent color shoes and bag, I'd try inverting the colors, with dark blouse and socks with light shoes, or try eliminating a color you always use. If it's a solid color piece, I'd try shoehorning another more interesting color in. Something else that's fun is to base a coord around a weird bag or blouse, instead of basing the coord off a print like most of the time.
I think having a few main pieces and a lot of basics is important. You get a lot more wear out of a piece when the whole coord is the outfit, not just the main piece.

There's a very crucial difference for me: the mulberry mushroom dress is being marketed as being suitable for both otome and lolita, it's been shown with a lighter petticoat under it. Meanwhile, pepfox's dresses are much narrower and shorter, the brand has said over and over again that they're an otome brand, not lolita. I don't even know if the pepfox dresses work for lolita, I've never seen one worn in a proper lolita coord with a petticoat. I guess it's a detail that most folks don't care about, for me, I've discovered that a poofy lolita skirt hides my chunky thighs very well, which means pepfox dresses are entirely out for me: the shorter length + lack of poof will look bad on me.

So while I'm never going to buy a pepfox dress, the mulberry mushroom dress looks promising. I'm waiting to hear specific details before I commit to a purchase, but the photos show a good amount of skirt to bodice, it's already been shown with a light petti underneath it, and the dresses have pockets.

I'm actually kind of surprised cgl lolitas have not picked up on the difference, pepfox dresses tend to look like mainstream loliable dresses that we regularly tell newbies are not lolita because they're too narrow and too short. The mulberry dress still looks narrow compared to AP, but they do have a proper lolita silhoutte going on at least.

I prefer Pepfox releases to MC's. The gathering on the mushroom dress is weird and the print looks terrible, the collar is also weird. The mushrooms look like cuts with white pus leaking out of it. I hope MC comes out with nicer prints and change their cut, their garments look well made and I would really want to own some.
Their aesthetics are not that similar though, Pepfox's art style is much more delicate and uses muted colors, while MC uses bright and jarring color with clip art looking print.

When I said I was surprised, I was surprised because cgl is where I followed most of the discussion about whether pepfox is lolita, along with comments on how short and narrow the skirts are.

I can understand if this was the otome or jfash thread where it matters less, but this is lolita general. And one of the brands being compared is completely non lolita. Which makes it a pretty big difference.

I got rid of six dresses and a suitcase of basics and accessories. Sometimes I'll still get tired of a piece more quickly than I tire of others, but like you said, resale value tends to remain high, so it's not a big deal. It's okay if a dress brings you joy for only a while, but then get rid of it once it no longer brings you joy. And this does tend to happen to me less now that I'm choosier about things.

For the blouse, I'd keep it for now. If you've established there are things you don't like about it and you'd prefer not to keep it, that's great, but it's also your only white blouse. Keep it, but make a new white blouse a shopping priority. That said, don't buy a new one until you find one you love. THEN sell the old blouse.

For instance, if you're cool toned (your skin has blue/pink undertones) and you're looking for a blonde wig, get something ashy. So I have a question. I want to get a really nice Christmas-y lolita dress, but I don't want it to look costumey. Meaning.. I want it to look sort of mature, so I guess less frills, more adult-ish and proper. I want to introduce my style to my family, but sweet really wouldn't be appropriate for how stuck up a lot of them can be. Can I have some ideas of dresses I could buy ahead of Christmas, so I ca work on coording it? Thank you!

>> No.8475627

>>8475591
Are you okay with plain pieces? I think a plain piece in a deep red or green could be coordinated with gold and maybe Christmas themed accessories to be pretty Christmassy yet subtle.
Dresses with gold accents/ coordinating with gold is pretty on trend at the moment so you could pick something without an overt theme.
AP's loyal/ chocolate roset etc. seem christmassy to me, for example. I was thinking plain IW style pieces in relevant colours. Gold lace, jewelery, shoes.

>> No.8475629

>>8475436
Firstly, there's nothing wrong with not doing OTT. However, if you want to but feel you can't I have only one suggestions: Look at other people doing similar themed/styled OTT coords and see what elements they have in common e.g. similar jewellery pieces, do they have matching socks to the dress etc.

It's not racism, it is a part of their culture. Any race of Chinese person could be like this.
Culturism?
Culture is ingrained in a society. The majority of people from that society have been indoctrinated to the culture and follow it. There is a reason many American prostitutes won't have black clients, why my friend hates other Koreans, why people (black especially) are afraid of policemen. It might not be nice to stereotype, but all stereotypes stem from somewhere and there are reasons they exist. When patterns emerge in a culture you start to associate those patterns with that culture.
It's not politically correct, but it happens among every group.
