I have hosted one meet before with 7 or 8 ppl total and it was fun but my comm is full of itas and one girl brought some weird old lady with her for no reason and it was like....okay. It was fun but I wish my comm was more active and not so full of itas. I loved the place for the tea party though. It was not the fanciest place but it was cute and the tea blends were amazing. Since it was my first meet, I wish next time I would collect the money before hand so if someone bails out, I have their money and can pay for their food

if i had more time for comms and at the risk of being disliked/hated, I would make an application only comm.
I'd ask for basic stuff in the app (age, gender, etc...) and then get into a bit more specifics like hobbies and stuff.
That way I could plan according to what the people like doing and incorporate it into meets.
Like if people liked reading, one meet could actually be something of a book club-like thing. I'd ask people to bring their favorite book so they could talk about it and even have them read a few lines from it.
The app would also require them to show at least three of their outfits to make sure they're not itas or crazy weebs.

It would be tough to do, but it's a dream.

Eh it's sort of similar to what my comm does. But it's more like a gauge to see if people applying are actually interested or active in the fashion, rather than random cosplayers/weebs, creeps, snooping friends/relatives and spam bots.

Everyone is free to do meetups though so information about interests would only be useful if those with access to the applications are planning meets.

If you decided to go that route, I'd suggest an application (age, general lolita interests, time in the fashion, coord shots) and then maybe keep a google docs survey that's viewable to all so everyone can see what interests the group has as a whole.

I host a meet up once or twice a month, I normally try to do small prizes at every meet. Little goodie bags with random knickknacks inside. Kawaii stationary and other random novelties that you can buy at the dollar store. Sometimes I put Japanese candy inside. I used to try to go by the theme but now it's just whatever I find haha. I also do a grand prize for whoever is able to embody the theme the best in their coord!
I never thought of thank you cards, but that's cute too! I wouldn't mind doing that for a bigger event!

My condolences, anon, but this is a lesson I think every meet organizer learns the hard way. I went to an expensive tea party one time, and two people didn't show up and didn't tell anyone in advance that they weren't coming. It was $50 per person, and the restaurant charged full price, even for no-shows, so the rest of the party got stuck splitting and paying for the girls who had bailed out. I remember feeling so mad at the time that I told my friend (the event organizer) that those girls should be banned from future meets.

i had to back out of my (then-potential) very first meet because of a sudden death in the family (and a very close family member at that) which made me had to take a sudden family trip with the rest of the family to attend the funeral. it was a very weird, distressing, and confusing time for me, and i was in full-on grief mode, so i completely forgot about the tea party that day. the ticket was over $30, and while i told the organizer about the family death and apologized profusely, i didn't ask for the money back or anything. in the end the organizer just decided to keep the money saying it would be my payment for being a no-show, i just hope they actually used it to pay for my spot and didn't keep it for themself or anything like that. i understood it was fully my fault too, but idek, i do think people (organizers and attendees) do have to learn this the hard way like i did.

It's not an expensive dress, it only cost me 150 usd, but it is kind of hard to come by. I just opened it and STAINS. STAINS EVERYWHERE. I am so disappointed as I've wanted this dress for a while. There is no way this girl didn't notice before sending that the entire thing is stained. There wasn't any protection in the box either, it was just shoved in there. I know it's common to ask for partial refunds, but honestly, I just kind of want to return it. No one, as far as I know, knows who MM's designer is, and I have been following MM since about 2007-8 so if you find anything let me know. I do know they're a very small company, there's a dissertation floating around out there containing some information on them that said MM has only 4-5 staff. Their quality is better than most other brands, and while their recently releases might not be as nice as their older ones, I would still say the quality is nicer than Baby/AP etc. As for financial trouble, maybe? They don't make as many releases or new designs as they once did but they were never as prolific as VM or IW to begin with. Their older releases run very small.
