Gonna at least attempt a Bride of Dracula-type coord for the meet, even though for some bizzarre fucking reason everyone voted to have the theme of the meet be "broken/possessed dolls".

I'm hoping Cotton Candy Shop scared them badly enough that they don't put out anymore clusterfuck pastel vomit. I mean, I love pastel vomit, but Cotton Candy was really a mess. iirc they went as far as splitting the sets up, you could buy the jsk for as little as 7k+ yen (in-store price sans tax, ss, shipping, etc).

I can't really see AP completely abandoning their OTT sweet style, though. It's what they're well-known for, and I have heard that Japanese lolitas will grumble if AP goes too long with a pastel sweet print (apparently that's the reason Wrapping Heart sold out in all colourways). At most they might try doing a print in both pastels and navy or brown, that's about as far as I think they'd go.

Don't forget that their original print isn't the only set to come out during New Year's, they typically have two more special sets from one of their prints during the year as well, so they are more likely to do something simple and minimalistic for the special sets, and then go frilly princess on their new year's print LP (which is what they've been doing for the last few years).

winter is expected to be fairly mild this year, assuming you'll be towards the south. you shouldn't see colder than -20, and that's usually the end of January. get lots of warm tights and leggings (I have some thick ones with a nice pattern that are fuzzy on the inside) and a proper coat (I'm afraid a lolita coat might not cut it, a big fluffy jacket is eventually necessary), but you should have like 1 or 2 pairs of jeans on hand in case the weather goes to shit. pic related is what you want if you'll be outside in the nature or smth with >-15, shit keeps you warm. don't forget your hats and scarves and gloves, either. you can look into thermal underwear if you're really scared of the cold.
basically, you should be fine in lolita up to -10 (no idea where you're from though, so your tolerance may vary) as long as you're dressed reasonably. remember lots of layers and good legwear/shoes (you'll thank yourself so much if you have proper boots, seriously). I have doubts about above -10 but you can of course try.

Original Print ( French and sweets) - Lyrical Bunny - A La Carte - Dream Fantasy - Candy Sprinkle - Cotton Candy Shop

But then the last print had both.

It's good if clothing has been maintained well, even if it arrived with the fault and you fixed it before you passed it on, but noticing that something has been re-sewn or replaced on an item that is meant to be BNNW is tacky as hell. I said a lot, not everything, it clearly starts to devolve into general inane bullshit but I think they raise a lot of interesting points that are worth considering instead of being knee jerk defensive about it and dismissing it altogether. There's a lot of internal pressure in the Lolita community that has caused it to become what it is and not all of those changes or treatments and attitudes are necessarily good.

This. It's clearly filled with some pretty shit-tier trolls and plain idiots. Don't get taken on the ruse cruise, gulls.

I agree that it's a bit costumey now (I would argue even moreso than it was with the old OTT sweet trend), but I am so sick of the ageplay/mental illness bs.
Also, the people in that thread are so ignorant about Japan. Yes, cute things are popular and Japan has issues with sexualizing children, but for 99% of the population, fashions like lolita are huge turn offs. Also, cute culture was developed by girls for girls, even if it has been co-opted by capitalism, and if anything, was a rebellion against sexualization and societal gender expectations.

I had always worn IW's size M, but just recently switched to only buying size L, my measurements are 64cm waist, 90cm bust; I am also 5'9, so as you can see, wonky measurements.

The size L blouses fit me amazingly. Whereas the Ms also fit and weren't too tight, they were way too short, especially in the sleeves. Their L sizes mostly just cater to taller people, and REALLY help with avoiding boobloaf, which is something I always used to get since my bust-waist ratio is so off. If you have a larger cup size but are small everywhere else, then size L will do wonders for you, especially if you're lanky like I am.

I just got an underbust JSK from them in size L and it fits and looks great. The listed measurements for IW are always 5cm over what they really are, so if it says it will fit a 95cm bust, you won't look good/won't fit it if you're over 90cm.

The small differences are more evident in the detail pix on the lolibrary pages.
Stars has star embroidery on the collar while the Cross collar is plain. Cross has a cross charm on the bow while Stars has a plain bow.
Also, a funny thing is that the cuff buttons on Cross are stars, whereas on Stars they are just circular buttons! You'd think it'd be the opposite haha

By ap international you mean the jp shop rather than ap usa, right?

If you just want some cute socks now, go ahead and buy them, there's currently no restrictions on any of the legwear that I know of.

If you're talking about upcoming releases, then every release is different. Each print release typically gets a page to itself and at the top, underneath the shop banner but before the products lineup, there will be a section in japanese listing all the rules (such as one per person, headwear/legwear limit, etc). Use Chrome browser to translate if you're lazy to cut and paste. Typically the limit is number of items per person, it's rare for them to limit buying accessories to those who have bought the main piece, though it's possible they might put such a limit up in the future.

Take note as well, there is always a time limit to the limits, for eg for Holy Lantern, even though the limit is one dress, one headwear, two legwear per person, after 6pm the limit is lifted, you can go back and buy up whatever is left. So if what you wanted was outside the limit, if the item is fairly unpopular you can still go back and buy lots of it later.

If you're in a position of power (KA, con head) it is not appropriate behavior, ever. It's hardly apppropriate in any situation. No one should have to tell him to back off, he shouldn't be acting like a teenage boy to begin with. It's not a bunch of girls' responsibility to tell him to behave himself and act like a professional. And yes, men like this do tend to know that many girls won't tell them to back off out of fear, and they take advantage of that. I think most people were really disappointed, as it seems to be replacing the (almost) yearly chocolate print. It looks washed out and so bland, and the cuts aren't amazing either; the lacing on the JSK is downright awful, imo. Like the other anon said, it also doesn't seem to be as textured as some other prints, so it really doesn't seem to warrant the high price. If it was a thick, textured fabric like the chocolate series or royal unicorn, I would be more likely to pony up money for the brown OP. As it stands, I'll wait to grab it secondhand.

Other factors likely contributing:
>AP's recent slew of releases
People don't have hundreds of dollars to throw down every week
>Lack of hype/advertising
AP doesn't seem to have advertised this/hyped it as much as other prints
>Boring and un-mixable pieces
The pieces are boring enough that you don't feel tempted to buy them for novelty but just unique/different enough that they won't work well with many of AP's other pieces. At least with the choco releases, they're pretty much "non-print" pieces so you can generally work in the coats and accessories with other pieces. This release honestly looks a bit too weird and busy to be able to really do that.

Protip: it's exactly what you see in that photo. It's not like an embroidery that will be raised and noticeable from a distance, it's a type of structural weave that is flush with the rest of the cloth, the texture is much more subtle and the weave. There are varying depths of jacquard, so saying that it looks "rather flat compared to some of their other pieces" is pretty dumb. What are you even trying to get at?

this kind of works, I'm worried about the placement looking funny but maybe it's not as bad as I'm thinking. I have some time tomorrow so I'll have to go out and buy more bobby pins and some clips of various sizes and see if I can work something out, headband might be my best shot though since my issue with putting clips through the elastics is I feel like I'm not securing it down enough to counter the weight of it. Maybe later on I should try to fasten a hair comb to it?

I'm not saying that it is. I was mostly referring to >>8659941 and the other anon (sorry, on mobile) saying that it was not very textured/thick. I think they put loops in so that you can chose your own method of attaching the headdress.

For headband: First, tie a seperate elastic to the headband before you slip the headdress on. Then slip the headdress on, and tie another elastic on the other side. The two extra elastic will act as stoppers to stop the headdress from sliding off the headband.

For combs: Slide two combs into the loops, make them both face inwards. If you look at the underside of AP mini hats, you can see two combs facing each other inside, that's how you want it to look.
Then, to wear it, slide the two combs towards each other into your hair. Then secure them with bobby pins that catch both your hair and the comb.

8660239

>>8660225

One/two more:

If you have one of these blank metal barettes large enough to span the two elastic loops, you can try inserting it into the loops -- open the barette and then push it under the elastic. Then the headdress will be on the back of the barette and you'll be able to wear it like a normal barette.

I think you can try the same thing if you happen to have an alligator clip that's long enough as well.

Except for the headband method, to make it harder for the headwear to fall off, tie a small pony tail exactly where you want the headwear to sit before putting on the headwear. For the barette, pin it through the ponytail, for the comb, make sure some of the hairpins catches the elastic. The ponytail will act as a stopper so all these things are less likely to fall out.

Come back and let us know if these work. Personally I think the idea is genius and I want to try it out for the next headdress I make.

Honestly a lot of my wardrobe is impulse buys. There's lots of great pieces from Meta and AP that never seemed to make it into the archives, so when I see something I like I have to grab it because 1) Its hard to find pieces that aren't well-documented and 2) brands didn't used to manufacture as many dresses, so there's less of them around. Old-school is pretty cheap in general though.

>> No.8662358

>>8662329

How picky are you? If you're after a specific dress or print, you're probably in for a pretty hard time, some of them just don't surface, and the non prints will be the ones that only show up twice in 8 years of searching while the one colourway you actually want never ever shows up at all.

If you're not terribly picky, though, then it's actually really easy. Keep a list of all the secondhand places -- egl comm sales, lacemarket, yja, mbok, fril, mercari, glass forest, violet blue, maiden clothing, closet child, tokyo alice, fairy angel, ....that's all of them, I think. When you have the money, just trawl through them one by one until you find a piece you like that fits into your wardrobe and is a price you like, buy it/send a shopping service to buy it. That's all there is to it. The bigger headache is praying that the items aren't too different in shades so you can actually put together a coord without clashing shades.

You will have to make do with not knowing their names, though -- other anon is right in that a lot of older pieces, particularly solid-coloured pieces, don't seem to make it into hellolace or lolibrary.

If you prefer to buy firsthand from brand, all of the brands eventually re-release something old school, older lolitas do still buy them, you just have to keep an eye on their site as the tumblr lolitas tend to ignore it. Most notably, Baby did an entire classical series just this year, a lot of their popular old school dresses got a re-release. Even without that, though, Baby regularly re-releases many of their old school dresses, particularly karami 3-tier jsk and the babydoll jsk. For Meta, they tend to re-release the pintuck jsk, some velveteen jsk and some variation of that grandma couch floral print. Moitie's style hasn't changed all that much, half their items still look like they belong in 2006 GLB anyway. So it's possible to be decked out in old school lolita in all-new brand from 2015, too.

thanks guys. if it helps, the main color in my wardrobe is black and i don't really own prints. i tend to wear more classic and gothic as well.
i was thinking about giving otome a try, but most dresses that i see don't really appeal to me unless you guys have any examples of "darker otome" if that even works haha

Coming from another gothic/classic nonprint-wearing lolita... it will still stand out. I wore it throughout my years at art school and thought I was being super casual, and while people were accepting of it, I still definitely stuck out. If you want to do really casual otome in dark colours, I can see that as being seen as dressing girly/more conservatively and not quite as alternative. I've spotted a lot of cheap black ETC, and paired with a cutsew, some mary janes, and a beret or something it wouldn't seem that weird, I feel.

Jane Marple's A/W is usually darker in tone. You might like regimental stripe or one of their velvet collections.

Check out Excentrique, Sheglit and Miho Matsuda maybe?

yeah, some excentrique, I would avoid anything corseted.

If you want to dress girly, I'd say stick to office lady blouses and toned-down skirts. It's amazing how much even that will make you stand out in a sea of leggings and Northfaces, but you'll stand out as "unusually well dressed" instead of "weird lacey doll".

I disagree. It doesn't matter unless it's like a clinical tutorial with a clinician or you're in the hospital on a clinical rotation. I'm a doctor now, but was a mallgoth then a lolita and used to wear whatever I felt like to lectures/class even during clinical years. This was over 5 years ago now, but my rule of thumb was "fine for preclinical stuff but not for anything where you have to be professional". It also depends on your uni culture, I was in a student town where alt fashion was very accepted. You can also be picked on more easily for the lecturer to ask questions.

A new shop called "harajuku_backstreets" popped up on ebay recently and they're using pictures from Wunderwelt. Supposedly, the shop is US based. The blouse I wanted to purchase is also currently for sale on Wunderwelt, as well. Odd.

"Everyone has to tiptoe around me because I can't take care of myself and you're an idiot for being a normal human being", that's what this comment sounds like. Stop being so sheltered.

I had the same experience. I wore what would now be considered larme kei during preclinicals without much notice. However, I changed my wardrobe to a work one and kept my lolita in a very compartmentalized space during clinicals. I now keep my power level way down nowadays. My residency is fairly lax, but the most I'll would do is very plain stuff.

Fellow med anon, how do you wear lolita nowadays? I'm having a really hard time and I'm sort of having a bit of a crisis about it. Thinking about downsizing. Doesn't help I live in a middle of nowhere town where people will recognize me in an outlandish fashion.

ah i guess i should also add that i'm aiming for psychiatry. it'll only be my bachelor's for psych for a couple years and then my master's then med school.
i'm in my last semester of community college now so i wear simple, wearable coords every now and then and no one really cares, but a higher university makes me nervous.

You basically have to make time for it because it's not really ever going to be a good idea for work. It's my casual/weekend wear now so I try to keep my wardrobe to 30ish dresses and curate it, I did a massive downsize and halved my wardrobe in my first year of working. I also do a lot of a la mode/crossover type stuff so I can wear it more easily.

One of the psychiatric trainees I know is really fucking weird and it never affected him getting in. He was kinda like...otherkin, I guess. He used to say he was a cat, turned up in cat ears etc. He goes by a normal name now but I'm not convinced he's any less odd.

If you're just starting your bachelor's, why are you calling it "med school"? Most people would call themselves premed, you can wear whatever you want but people will know you as "that girl who wears poofy dresses in lecture"

Holy fuck this is absolute gold. It's like the psych stereotype in a nutshell.

Closest I have is that a neighboring family med residency of ours has a dude who sports bilateral full sleeve tattoos. He got in and doesn't seem to give fucks about people seeing them. So there's that.
