There were roughly 20 variations of Rose Quartz during the Saturday meet. I was personally impressed by the steam punk crystal gems that came. The Garnet's gauntlets were quite a thing.

Honestly, I'm a little salty about how that gathering was run because I couldn't hear a damn thing, and I didn't get the impression that the person running it had planned at all.

Oh, that's a great album! I don't understand Pearl's exposed bra, but they look cute. Garnet's gauntlets are impressive too, I wonder if they're heavy. That Sour Cream is also great, and I loved the Amedot pictures. The Amethyst that I assume is running the shoot also looks pretty nice, it's rare to see an Amethyst with even paint.

I think 1 and 5 were the best ones there. 5 actually used her real fingers with tubes stuck on the end, and I thought it looked good. 1 had the benefit of being able to bend hers into all sorts of shapes though, including helicopter fingers. I think she must have been part of a group with one of the Garnets since they actually switched "limb enhancers" during the Perinet shoot (pic related).

I was slightly terrified of 4's fingers. They looked too much like dolls hands, ala Doonice from SNL.

It's a visor and the gem is drawn on top of it. More likely, the visor just forms around the shape of the gem. For cosplays, I think the best way to go about it is to glue the gem on top of the visor.

This was in the bad makeup thread. Idk if I'd consider it really BAD per se, but I'm not sure how I feel about making Lapis have gold spots. I know the actual stone looks like that, but Lapis in the show doesn't. I think I'd like it better if it were a bit more subtle.

Ruby needs to match her paint to her armsocks a bit better (though I sympathise wholly with trying to do anything about that impossible shade of magenta, having suffered the same with Garnet), but these are my favourite Ruby-Sapphire pair so far. I love the poof/body in Ruby's headband and boots, the fact that the cosplayers are both short but similar in height, their well-cast gems, and Sapphire's colour-matching and wig.

Going to attempt Rose for Halloween this year and I was wondering what cgl thinks of the ringlets vs drill curl look? I want to base her wig more on her earlier models rather than her current ones (which just kind of looks like a heap of shapeless hair desu), so i figure drill curls are the way to go, but I've never actually done them before and I've seen some, uh, unfortunate drill curl Rose wigs. Any tips for avoiding the stiff-as-cardboard look?

What I've seen people do that seems to work well is a hybrid of drill curls and ringlets: like maybe 2 or 3 giant drill curls and the rest of the volume filled in with more traditional ringlets. Though that could easily go awry if you're not careful. Look up what Cowbuttcrunchies did when they had to make a Rose Quartz wig. I think they have at least progress pics if not a full tutorial.

Amsocks all the way. That Ruby's morphsuit looks better than most... she has a little sheen but usually the shine is noticeable and awkward looking.

The other plus for armsocks is that you have a better color range to match your facepaint. Pic related is still the best shade I've seen so far and I'm pretty sure she's using armsocks.

I think you could get away with painting the markings on, but you'll need to put something in the tights so they don't stick together. If anything, I'd suggest going with fabric marker if your're dead set on making them exist in a single layer, otherwise, your friend can attach the markings on top of her armsocks with different colored tights fabric or something.

Use the fabric spraypaint that comes in a spray-air-can-type bottle. I've used it and it's way more like a dye than a paint. That also means it feathers, but not too badly if you're careful.

Jasper is a mess. You both need to work on actual acting in photos to make it look realistic. Your stance isn't even slightly strong enough looking to give the illusion of trying to pull someone and Jasper is too grounded to appear that she is trying to run. Eh she's not known in the SU community as much as she is in the North Carolina community. She's known for making really terribly crafted costumes that are literally the most random pieces of fabric crudely hot glued together. She found out that people were shit talking her on cgl and caused a stink about it in a con FB group and then failed at defending herself her. It was all chronicled in one of this years Animazement threads if you feel like checking the rebeccablackarchive. It's pretty entertaining.

She looks cute. Aside from the hair being too long (probably didn't bother getting a wig for a closet cosplay so I'll give it a pass) and the bodice not having the paler cups she's pretty accurate and doesn't look especially awkward.

Not really, the worst part about this cosplay is that it's really, really simple and should be impossible to fuck up, and yet, here we are. Cups aren't right and are studded, she has straps instead of being strapless, and the ears are too big and have white fuzz instead of just being black. She also didn't cut the proper bangs and the wig is too long. Only thing she got right is being fat which is quite a feat given how simple the design is.
