Like maybe after the secrets get posted, the submissions post gets posted the following Monday for the next week? But you make this suggestion and misterlolita gets mad and shoots your suggestion down like you insulted their ancestors.

Is casual lolita dead? Whenever I see people post casual coords on CoF, it's really just a non-OTT coord. Often with a comment like ''just threw this on quickly :)'' or ''casual coord to run some errands!''. Especially when they wear a very obvious wig and big accessories it doesn't look casual to me in any way.

I sometimes want to comment on it, especially the ones who ask for concrit. However I'm too much of a pussy to say something negative on CoF. Tough people often say ''this is a nice coord but I wouldn't call it classic/gothic/sweet'', you never see those comments when someone calls a non-casual coord casual.

Are there people who actually wear oldschool casual lolita, soft lolita or lolita pieces in a casual way? Why don't they post more?

>> No.9121424

>>9121394
I know that people still wear casual Lolita. I feel like newer gorls just dont understand casual coords because they came into Lolita after the OTT boom where ut was all OTT all the time and compared to that their coords are casual.

as for why you dont see too many casual coords anymore my fuess is that people juat dont poat those. It's like they figure it wont get many likes or comments because its not some giant frilly situation so why bother. The vast majority of my coords are on the casual side since i wear Lolita to work once a week and sitting in an ofice all day is a big old petti and a ton of accesories isnt on my list of fun ideas; i wouldnt post any of those coords online though since they're not all that eye catching.

>> No.9121480

I think people still wear it but the bar for posting a coord to CoF has been raised beyond posting a super-casually styled coord with a skirt and cutsew. MY pov is that CoF has made this pissing contest out of the fashion to the point where only OTT coords get acknowledged and more tone-down coords overlooked.
It's really sad to see lolita in the west become what it is, I joined the fashion when pastel split wigs were the biggest trend and I hated it because lolita is supposed to look like a fashion not a costume.

I'm sure plenty of people wear casual coords but of course something more impressive is going to get more attention. If you are happy in casual coords, you wear them for your enjoyment not looking for attention because otherwise you just sound petty. No one is going to give more likes to a cutsew than a fancy princess dress. Some otome girls have the same complaint, that lolita hogs the spotlight but what can I say, they are very plain Jane to me. If there is enough interest maybe start a casual/soft lolita group?

I wear casual most of the time but worry that if I post to CoF or tag it #lolitafashion on IG, I will get ripped apart in an ita thread. So I only tag it with #ootd or the brand name(s) and only post to CoF if I have a more "formal" (though not OTT) coord. I personally wouldn't call any of my non-casual coords casual but I can understand how girls newer to the fashion might feel that simpler coords are automatically casual.

I agree with this but people always get really offended when you compare OTT to costume. I don't think OTT is a like wearing a costume at all either, however it does feel weird to me how many props and fake looking wigs are used sometimes. And it just feels like OTT is the only accepted way to wear lolita currently. Sure we can say lots of people wear lolita in a more casual way, if that's so then I wonder where those people are? Because when I go to a meet-up, almost all of the girls are wearing OTT, and the ones that are wearing something more casual are often making an excuse why they are not wearing OTT. Looks like for some reason the casual lolita's are lone lolita's?

>> No.9121892

This. I think it also has to do with the fact that the word casual when it comes to fashion means different things for people and no one I know of really in lolita has actually managed to sit on one of the set definitions for the fashion but instead looks to just copy something from an old magazine.

Not that anyone could actually agree on something.

I never wear OTT and I've never posted on CoF but I dislike social media in general. At meet-ups I sometimes feel like I stand out because I look casual compared to the rest, though it's not casual lolita. I sometimes feel pressured by other comm members to add things to my coord that I don't think are necessary, like they will make suggestions that I didn't ask for to add more accessories, bigger this and bigger that, etc. One time someone suggested I should wear a bigger wig (when I wasn't wearing one), and fake eyelashes. The older GLBs had casual lolita down as just a poofy skirt with a cutsew, sometimes even with a t-shirt tucked in (for the lolita silhoutte).

Then a more recent GLB (last year, or maybe the year before) had a spread with the different substyles. Casual Lolita's page was an IW coord with a proper blouse, not even a cutsew. Legwear, lolita shoes, bag, the works. It looked like simple non-OTT lolita, mostly.

Exactly what the other anon said, one defintion was more "easy to wear", and the other was "simple, not OTT".

My understanding is that it used to be known for intricate designs that were above other brands on the market long ago. The current JetJ is just full of cluttered painting prints and simpler construction.

Also, I've heard that the price difference is also partially because JetJ gets a slightly older audience with usually more expendable income. It's similar to how Jane Marple and some otome can be a little pricier, since older women can tend to buy it and it's easier to grow into.

I hate to break it to you. Lolita is unfashionable. Even toned down classic is nothing like what is in fashion and can look strange to normies depending on where you live. Petticoats have not been fashionable since the 1950's or early 1960's.

Lolita is not meant to be a fashion that looks in fashion. It was created to be a sort of rebellion against mainstream fashions of the 80's and 90's, going back to more girlish or elegant looks, and dressing for yourself and not for the approval of other people. It may be decades later after the fashion began forming, but this still holds true. It makes a statement and goes against the grain, no matter what style you wear be it 2008 OTT sweet with pastel wigs or a soild MM piece coordinated simply. It still stands out in one way or another depending on who is looking.

You honestly just have to suck it up and get over it.

>> No.9124366

The other anon is right, Lolita will always stand out. Instead of wearing full Lolita outfits, try to incooperate small Lolita items with your normie clothes, like a Lolita bag, a small bow in your hair, cute jewellery. This is an odd question I know, but I figure here is the best place to get an answer.

How do you adjust to not being able to buy as much lolita as you used to? I'm starting grad school in September and so predictably I've had to scale back my spending since school is full time. Yet, I can't shake the feeling that I'm "falling behind" because of it and even find myself staring at secondhand or taobao releases that I don't even like just because I could still afford them and thus be adding to my wardrobe.

How do you allow yourself to shift priorities to things that are important while continuing hobby that seems to stress collecting and spending?

I just started grad school. Sorry, but your choice in grad school came at the expense of a lot of things but is ultimately worth it. It's not fun and it sucks giving up hobbies you love, but it's true.

Turn your degree into a big salary and buy all the dresses forever afterwards.

>> No.9125435

>>9125398

I'm not really sure how less time = buying less burando, to be honest. I find it easier to keep up with burando with time constraints since you can subscribe directly to their blog/twitter feed instead of going through the LU page, and most of them release on time anyway, so all you need is to make sure your Fridays/Saturdays are free, decide if you want to buy a dress, click through and be done. Unlike taobao/secondhand, where you practically have to scour all the pages every day in case something really good pops up somewhere, or those effing taobao indie brands that show you a preview, then you check their weibo every day for like a year before realising they're never going to release that one print you actually liked.

So, assuming you mean you have less money and less time, first thing is to figure out a budget, and how many dresses you can buy per month/year. After that, it's easier to keep up with just your favorite brand, or if you want to, keep up with tenshishopping's facebook since she posts Kera reveals on there, target the one dress that you can buy (or, if nothing catches your fancy, roll the money over in case two pretty dresses come out next time), close the window, then go back to studying.

fyi, the hobby doesn't really revolve around buying and hoarding, if you've been in the hobby for awhile you'd start losing closet space and slow down in purchases anyway. If you need alternative ways to enjoy lolita, find a lolita meetup to dress up for and look forward to, or do the coord challenges with your existing wardrobe (10 items 7 coords, 30 daily coords, 14 days of x brand, etc). Or just do online polyvore coords, throw them up on a tumblr somewhere, and then forget about them.

Honestly, so true. Very simple and honest and it works. When I want to buy buy buy, it's because I let myself keep looking. If I seriously need to buckle down and stop buying things, then I have to tell myself not to look at new updates, not to check sales comms, not to check any secondhand sites, and to just keep scrolling past things on my newsfeed.

Just because a dress can fit a petti/ is a-line does not make it lolita.
If anything these look more like retro swing type dresses to me, especially with all that tulle sticking out.

I mean you can put these next to some actual lolita dresses and play spot the difference but here's a few thins to mention I guess: wrong bodice cuts and seams for lolita (there are like boob cups and ruching?), grommets on the first one, overall lack of lace and trim, no waist ties(?), all that fucking tulle, etc.
Also both these dresses would be ugly even for normie wear so there's no point in getting them for any style.

The first one looks like it wouldn't really fit a petti.Actually with both dresses your lolita petti would be longer than the dress itself. The quality is not good enough for lolita either. And this is just my opinion but I think a blouse underneath would look out of place.
