I know there's a sewing thread already but that's geared to mostly lolita, not all substyles of jfash, and doesn't have everything I want to discuss so

>Do you make or design your own clothing, jewelry, accessories etc. for jfash or your own style?
>What materials do you work best with?
>Do you sell anything you make to other people?
>Do you follow anyone on social media that makes their own stuff?

Also post favorite places to buy materials from, patterns and tutorials, inspirations, and of course your own creations. Links to your store are more than welcome as long as you have good stuff.

I'm into cult party kei which focuses on a kinda vintage and shabby chic aesthetic so I make my own accessories for that since I haven't found any brands that make what I'm looking for
My sewing skills are less than mediocre so I've really only made small accessories like headbow and pins and decorating tote bags
I'm just starting out in lolita and am finding myself drawn towards a sweeter sort of classic style and am planning a coord for later this month so I snagged this boater hat from a normie store for about $5 and am planning on removing the black ribbon and decorating it with lace, ribbon, and maybe fake flowers to match the skirt I plan to wear with it. Maybe. Depends what Jo-ann's has, I wasn't really satisfied with their selections of lace the last time I was there and I'm picky about fake flowers

I love making my own accessories and jewelry. Since my sewing skills have been getting better and I'll be a fashion design major in the fall I'm looking forward to making my own clothes as well. Not gonna lie anon, you need to work on your piping

>> No.9090088

>>9089212
It's too disorganised and the piping's too lumpy. Use a smaller piping tip, arrange the decorations on the case before you stick them on, and aim to have some sort of coherence instead of just sticking things in where there's a space. Also, pick a theme that isn't just a color scheme.
It's not that awful for a second case, since you have a color scheme and it doesn't look mega crowded or painfully empty, but it can definitely be improved.

Yeah, that sort of warped logic pisses me off. The majority of people who do this are mega obese, too, like 24+, so someone improving a butt-ugly size 16 wouldn't mean shit to them in the first place.
And seriously, if you're that huge and can't find clothes to fit you, make your own damn clothes. It's a good skill to have and you can stop bitching that fatphobia is preventing companies from making miniskirts that fit your moon-like girth.

??? I've seen maybe 2 or 3 mega fatties at the library (the only place I've seen with hugeass chairs) and all of them sit on their scooters. Disabled spaces are clearly marked out as disabled spaces, big chairs are not marked out as fat people spaces because... they aren't.
If you're fat enough not to be able to stand for a few minutes, you'd be in a scooter. I'd understand it if for some reason people went out of their way to take all the big chairs so the one fat person couldn't sit, but since we're presumably not talking about a birthday party for asshole children, this warped logic does not apply.

I make clothes, accessories, and jewelry for lolita. Some of it can also work for otome and other styles

>What materials do you work best with?
Fabric, fake flowers and other doodads, I've been really enjoying making jewellery lately

>Do you sell anything you make to other people?
Yes

Yep. I follow alot of other indie designers ( moss marchen, sweet Mildred, moss Badger, voodoo dolly, atelier angel, I do declare, etc.)

Yes. I make fairy kei, pastel goth and lolita clothes and accessories for myself and others

>What materials do you work best with?

I really like working with knits and cottons. Knit isn't as difficult to work with as people claim and its far more forgiving for beginners in my opinion. I have a love of faux fur but hate how much it sheds.

>Do you sell anything you make to other people?

Yep. I have an etsy shop and I vend at conventions.

I design and create my own jewelry and accessories. I think sewing would be super useful for j-fash but I dont think I would enjoy doing it. I sometimes draw prints though I would like to have irl. If I was a skilled seamstress I would print fabric and then sew dresses with it

>What materials do you work best with?
Resin and polymer clay.

>Do you sell anything you make to other people?
Yes I do. When I have time I run my online store and I attend many conventions yearly.

>Do you follow anyone on social media that makes their own stuff?
Yes ! Especially on instagram. I love finding Japanese crafters as well, I find their style a lot different than things that are popular in the west. I do follow quite a few western girls as well though. Mostly those who work with clay and resin for inspiration.

I've seen a lot of people making whip chokers and I was wondering the best way to do this? Do they pipe directly onto the choker or pipe onto something else, peel it off when dry and then glue it onto the choker? And I'm guessing they use a fabric type choker and the silicone stays well?

Could be the acrylic. It has water and resin really hates water, so it'll take longer to set, and it might be quite soft, depending on how much resin you used.
It could also be the weather. If you're having a lot of rain, or it's cold, the resin will take longer to set.

I've considered doing some embroidery peices just for me and what I've come up with is:

Measure out how big the space for your embroidery is. Mark this shape and size on the cloth you are embroidering on with water soluble maker. Embroider your design within this space. Measure out the space on some felt. Cut it out (perhaps a tiny bit smaller then you want). Double the thickness of felt perhaps? Cut out embroidered design with plenty of room on the outside. Center it on the felt backing and then wrap the excess around to the back and stitch it in place. Finally glue your design to the setting.

Now I haven't actually tried this but it makes the most sense to me.

It's annoying as shit. Fatties making their own clothes or repurposing them is fine.
The really irritating thing is that a few butthurt fatties shit out self-righteous tirades about muh oppreshun on any vaguely fashion-related post they can find; if you're looking for tutorials or browsing craft/fashion blogs, you want information, not someone complaining that there aren't any high fashion clothes for goddess-sized womyn while steadfastly ignoring any helpful comments on where they can get fashionable clothes in larger sizes.

Since you seem to have misunderstood everything, I thought it best to spell it out for you. That way you can get butthurt about the points anon was actually making, instead of just projecting.

It's because people who are fat genetically/through hormones don't see it as a benefit. It sucks. The medicines stink and make you gross and sweaty. There are other side effects, like hair growth/thinning and acne, mental and emotional instability (especially if you're on hormonal medication, and it sucks. It all sucks. You exercise, cut your calories, do everything you're supposed to do to be healthy and you either gain weight or stay just as fat. There is no part of it that is glamorous, fabulous, or... Fuck, there's nothing good about it at all.

Then you've got these Tumblr fuckshits MAKING THEMSELVES FAT. ON PURPOSE. And then claiming it's a disorder or their genes, and it's bullshit. You can lie to the internet, you can lie to your family, and you can lie to yourself. Your fat body knows what you put into it, there's no fooling that.

People who are fat because of illnesses or medication, or some other factor besides being a lazy fuck who eats slop all day, usually don't want to be fat. Because it sucks. Everything about it is just terrible.

If someone is fat just for being fat, not physically disabled or impaired, and not carrying a young child or two... Do NOT give them that seat. Make them stand or sit in the little seat. I don't care how much they kick or scream... The cardio is good for them, anyway.

I think you really should start looking at tutorials for wire wrapping. Your first pieces were pretty good for a beginner but I think you're getting to the stage where you could learn about making textures, swirls, and seamless curling with wire. They may seem advanced at first but I'm pretty sure you can get the hang of it!

There are tons of tutorials out there the main ones you could google are wire weaves, and study tutorials which teach how to make seamless curls that give the illusion of 'infinite' wire. Hammering and flattening wire is another good way of adding texture too. Just trying to nudge you in the right direction because it seems to be the type of complex style that you're leaning towards right now.

For search terms: tatting (or frivolite lace), needle lace, bobbin lace, and of course you can make lace by crocheting and knitting (exspecially shetland lace knitting)

She just might not want to sell. There's a girl like that in my local (bjd) comm. Beautiful faceups and doll crafts, her illustrations are great, and she makes pretty jewelry too. I asked her why she doesn't set a shop up and she told me that she has a "real job" (her words, not mine) and doesn't want to deal with the customers. I don't blame her. You might be able to convince her that it's worth commissioning you, though. I know a couple of girls in my comm who have been able to. I'm sure they paid out the ass and then some, but there's a possibility.

There's a book called "Beginner's Guide to Bobbin Lace" by Gilian Dye and Adrienne Thunder. I have it and it's ok, but I admit I had hard time understanding their tutorial. Also I found this website: lynxlace . com/learningbobbinlace-basics . html

For supplies, bobbins could be found in yarn stores. Yarn should be something with tight twist since it will loosen while working. For poppin platform you can use corkboard or similar one with fabric on top of it. And I bet you have needles at home already.

Actually now I want to start bobbin again but I have many other projects to do. But good luck for you, I hope this helps

On the off chance you're in the SF bay area, Laci's Museum of Lace and Textiles in Berkeley is a great resource.
http://lacismuseum.org

They also have a web store, but I haven't poked around it so I'm not sure what all they have.
http://www.lacis.com/retail.html

The site design is uh... vintage, but it seems like they've got a ton of stuff.

I can't answer the standard size question you responded to as I don't know but here are a fee names for jewelry crafting things, may give u a point to work from haha.

Anyway you'll need cord/string, wire/chain for the basis of bracelets /necklaces etc.
The single loops of chain except not strung together and open-able & closable with pliers are called jumper rings.
The metal closings on necklaces and bracelets are called clasps.
The pins you can stick into polymer hand made charms so they have a little charm tip on them are called Eye pins. ( can also be used to string up beads- google how to use eye pins-there's various types too)
Then ofcourse there is beads which you can find a variety of by just typing in colors/style/material + beads.
For pendants you plan to make yourself try searching "jewelry backings, pendant backing.
For empty earring backings (stud type) they are usually called just that.
The dangle type earrings that are put in the ear with those curvy metal pieces are called ear/wire hooks, earring findings.

Usually if you are searching for jewelry making stuff on ebay or whatever just try to type in "jewelry findings" and all sorts of random pieces for jewelry making will come up and will give you the name of what they are too so you can find some more tools out that way.

Depending on what you're planning to make some tools you may want to look into is pliers with thin tips for bending wires/cutting, tape to hold string down as you thread beads onto a string or cord, and some sort of sealant if you plan on making your own beads or charms out of clay.
Shit sorry this was kind of long but hopefully it gives you a head start.

I love the right and bottom ones. I have been collecting bits of 18t-19th century pottery from the river Thames and thinking about wire wrapping the pieces with the nicest shapes and patterns.

I know I can't sew for shit (the lining is sewn to the outer fabric because I was guessing all the shapes/not using a pattern) but I made this purse from cat hair and people started asking me why I don't sell them. I told them 11 hours is too long to make something and not price it ridiculously, but then again once I have made the initial large sheets of felt, the construction times was 5 hours and mostly because I had literally no idea what I was doing to get the shape I wanted to fit with the claps but not be too oddly shaped a cat head. Do you reckon anyone would want me to make a purse out of their cat's hair? I could do more simplistic totes and phone cates with nicer stitching or appliques on them too I guess. That wouldn't be so fiddly and time-consuming. Consider this a prototype.

Arg sorry anon I totally forgot to check this thread. Thank you for the invite ! Yes Jelly Ultra. I hope to see new threads! I'd love to be active and participate in the group.

I'm part of a group on facebook and they've been talking about Instagram pods, maybe something to look into for the etsy group? I dont know all the details but basically they make these groups and when you make a new post, you link it to the group. And then all the participants comment on each others posts. It has to do with the new instagram system, so its to promote your work and hopefully reach more viewers.
