Newcon aka Anime PDX is an anime convention in Portland, Oregon. The convention head has not only cheated guests and individuals out of payment every year, but they have also personally gaslit, cheated, stolen from, attempted rape, and defrauded people in the Portland cosplay community.

The convention is committing payroll tax fraud, misallocating funds on purpose. In addition, they recently switched from a "nonprofit" organization to a "for profit" organization, but are running under an expired business license. The convention head is embezzling money from the convention by using the Newcon PayPal for his own personal banking/fun money. He has made a living out of dodging lawsuits and leeching off of innocent people, leaving them in the dust when it's time to move on to the next group.

Every time when under enough pressure as to why the fuck Newcon hasn't paid their bills, the convention will issue an excuse that retreads the same half assed apology about disorganization, citing "miscommunication", and that they are a "young convention" of 6 years. This is a pattern of behavior, and they're going to keep at it for as long as they can. The convention will only pay once it's threatened with legal action or actually sued.

Since the last thread, artists and vendors are canceling tables, the Portland Lolita community has boycotted future attendance, guests are backing out, and an executive has quit. Keep the momentum going, spread the word, don't let this convention continue to steal money.

Report the convention/convention head for tax evasion/fraud through this link: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/how-do-you-report-suspected-tax-fraud-activity

I know some of you pointed out the irony in this story, but here's a bit more detail on "a friend started dating a girl that had a bad fallout with someone in the last big house" and brought her to Mike's house party. That girl was Jordan, and the beef she had was over a household member having slept with an exboyfriend of Jordan's 5+ years prior. The person she was dating, who brought her to the party, was someone she was only dating out of pity and to prove a point to one of her friends (a LONGTIME victim of abuse and manipulation from Jordan) who had been dating said guy a few weeks prior: a "I can do anything/anyone you can do, so don't feel special" jab. Jordan would shit talk this guy constantly and wanted to break up with him the entire time but was going to "wait until after Newcon [that year] so he could have a good time."

She was eventually kicked out of the party due to the household being so uncomfortable with her being there. BUT before she and her friends left, they asked MIKE if they could stay and he said YES. The reason they ultimately left was the guy Jordan was dating was too uncomfortable with the situation and begged to go. But little ol Mike apparently had no problem with her being around ;)P

That Warner hasn't been an Executive for about a year and a half now, he quit a while ago and just sorta stayed around to act as manager for the wrestling content. Most likely what it is, is they have a bank account to comply with the necessary laws but its illegal for business owners to access business accounts WITHOUT a second and sometimes third party present. Most credit unions won't even let you touch the money without the treasurer present. So its tied to a paypal so that Mike has access to it. I'm PRETTY sure that bank account is in Jordan's name ONLY. So they would HAVE to use paypal if Mike wanted access to that money.

As a staffer, I only vaguely heard of rumors and whatnot third or fourth-hand from people who heard it from others. I'm glad people are sharing all these stories and info en masse, it's helping some of us to finally put together the pieces. Cons are always disorganized, but Newcon seemed to have its own set of special problems. I definitely won't be staffing anymore, and I've been sending the threads to my friends who I've staffed with. I never knew Mike super well, but I'm counting that as a blessing that I never got used.

Let's dive into Mike's "lost year" (i.e. the year he spent with Jordan's friend group after ditching Dai Gurren house/his former friend group). As Mike's ex right before this schism pointed out, Mike flashes a lot of money around to get people to like him. He took Jordan to several fancy dinners and all-night-bar-hopping dates (where he bought all of her drinks). Jordan had recently broken up with the guy she was pity dating and although she had been going on undefined "dates" with another member of the con community, she dropped him as soon as Mike & his money showed up. During this time, Mike talked a lot about how he wanted to move closer to Portland from Tigard, get his own place, and go back to school. The people he told this to had no idea that everything with the Dai Gurren house was happening right then. Mike started staying at Jordan's house (owned by one of her friends) a lot, eventually admitting he was avoiding the housemates who he and Jordan pitched a sob story about to anyone who would listen about how hurtful and manipulative the DA house was and how Mike hadn't done anything to deserve it. Jordan accompanied Mike to numerous meetings to "get his stuff back from the house" and "pay off their water bill" that "wasn't his fault" (but was willing to drop ~$900 for them so that they "wouldn't hate him.") Instead of getting his own place, the story turned to "I need a place to be safe from those people immediately," and so moved in with Jordan without getting an official okay from the homeowner, who because of their long friendship with Jordan, assumed that everything would turn out okay and was willing to help out someone in need. (1/3)

>> No.9398467

IMMEDIATELY after this, all of Mike's money vanished, with no telling where it had come from in the first place (likely the last dredges of that $5k he took to SAK before this). He was at this time spinning the story about operating an "event planning" business, whom no one ever saw him plan an event for. Soon after that was the event previously mentioned where Mike had organized a trip to a beach house which included a lot of the people he'd now burned bridges with, and who were asking for their deposits back. To come up with the money to pay them back (because he "didn't want them to hate him"), Jordan asked a bunch of her friends to attend and pay into the deposit, which sort of cemented Mike into the new friend group. Shortly after that, Jordan graduated college and did not seek employment. She and Mike, both jobless, repeatedly paid rent late or not at all and their rent for Jordan's room was super cheap to begin with. When there was a sudden spike in Newcon pre-reg sales, suddenly they had the money to afford rent (Jordan also had a job for like a few weeks but that was apparently too much work for her). They would sit around and play video games (even bought a PS4) and go to LARP campouts and would ALWAYS explain specifically where the money was coming from even though no one asked (oh this is a loan from Mike's family or Jordan's family, oh this is a bonus from this, oh this is from that, etc.) - classic "hiding their tracks" behavior. The one thing they never could quite explain was why they couldn't pay their rent on time. This is also around the time that Mike took out the Newcon PayPal loan, if I am remembering the story correctly. (2/3)

>> No.9398469

Immediately AFTER Newcon 4, they and two friends took one of their classic all-expenses-paid trips to ALA. Where did the funds for THAT come from, I wonder? A few months later, they attended SAK and told their friends that their room was discounted for being industry, and that their badges were comped (they also gave badges to others that were there to "work the Newcon booth" even though very few of them actually did). The friends staying with them were given inconsistent totals to pay in for the hotel, so some paid more than others even though everyone was sharing the room making a discount unlikely (and they very much doubted afterward that Jordan/Mike paid for any of their share at all).

After this, they made their exodus to Beaverton, but due to a lack of being able to afford moving costs, they stayed at Jordan's friends house TWO WEEKS after their scheduled move-out date, and did not pay for those weeks until TWO MONTHS later, which we can all guess why they paid that off -- Mike clearly "doesn't want anyone to hate him." Some of this information comes from direct experience, some of it is information shared among Jordan's ex-friends after she showed her cards to them and they dropped her for being a lying, manipulative, abusive con artist just like Mike (which she'd been doing to them long before Mike ever came around). The way I understand it though is that no one in this group ever spoke a bad word of Jordan or Mike until that reveal. As someone in-the-know at the time, I certainly never heard anything bad said or any speculation that Mike and Jordan were being dishonest. They all believed Mike, sided with him against the people who disparaged him after Newcon 3, backed up he and Jordan both, fought for him, and even staffed Newcon for him. (3/3 but jk there will be one more)

>> No.9398472

In retrospect (and after they heard how much Mike and Jordan were shit-talking them to everyone even though they'd taken Mike into their friend group and stood up for Jordan for like decades), it wasn't possible for them to ignore all of the gaslighting and outright lying that had been going on so they cut ties completely. It's relieving to see that all of these people now don't have to suffer from those lies anymore and are united in that this didn't happen to them alone. If you don't think this can happen to you, it can. It's pretty hard to see you're being taken advantage of when you're in it. Keep the enlightening coming, folks. (4/3)

Hi my name is Michael "Tyrone/Pingu" and I'm here to clear the air about all of this stuff going on.

First off, I'm so sorry that all of this happened. It was a miscommunication that happened when I was born that allowed me to continue living. I know a thing or two about miscommunication, trust me, they happen all the time when I owe people money, so I'm a bit of an expert.

Second, I have never and I FUCKING MEAN NEVER attempted to rape anyone. You CAN'T rape if your dick never gets hard and I should know, my dick NEVER gets hard.

All of you cowards thinking that you're being brave by coming forward and telling your stories about me and my convention? You could have just talked to me in person instead, but you all took the low road and publicly outed me. I would never do something so awful, I only say horrible things about people behind their backs and to their friends IN PERSON. NEVER ONLINE AND PUBLICLY, YOU COWARDS.

I have done nothing but put my blood and tears into Newcon. I'd say I put sweat in it too, but I have no idea what physical exertion is or feels like. But the point is, I've cried a lot about all the mean things you people have said about me and my girlfriend and my convention. We worked really hard to try to undermine Kumoricon, fill my "bank account" and make a convention that people can enjoy (but only if they've touched my balls). Is that so bad?

In conclusion, leave me alone, leave my equally two-faced, shit eating girlfriend alone, leave my convention alone. Just let us live in peace until we eventually get thrown into prison.

Thank you,
-Mikey A.

why? Kumoricon is already plenty for Portland, we're not thaaat big of a city. Plus, if Newcon is called of, it's pretty likely that some more competent, less shitty people will start up a different con. Since more than 2 cons is a pretty unrealistic expectation for Portland, it would give a chance to have 2 good cons instead of 1 good one and 1 shitshow. It's a win-win all around.

lol, just remembered about two years ago I got bored and started writing a notepad of some of the rumors and drama Mike had started / helped spread around then.

Translating my chicken scratch:
>Meepygal wasn't meant to be a guest of Newcon.
Don't remember how she ended up as one, especially since it was after the "Blue haired bitch" incident.
>MD used Newcon funds to pay for his own hotel room and used it as a BDSM dungeon during the con, posting photos of it on Twitter.
>CL / treasurer supposedly hadn't told Mike who had or hadn't been paid, and was supposedly what caused the guest payment issue.
>Said treasurer wasn't authorized to pay guests.
Not sure how he was supposed to be the treasurer if he had little to no control over the funds.
>Said JB scared a L'oreal hair model from Idaho out of the con scene.
>Claimed LS who had broken both of her arms that she'd actually healed, had gotten too comfortable living off of others' generosity, and that she owed him several grand in rent, since he stopped charging her after the accident.

He'd generally just talk shit about people, then turn around and act like best friends.
Granted, basically everyone was guilty of going along with his gossip and ate it up, but he loved starting it.
Think the worst case was how much he shit talked a particular girl he ended up dating less than a week later. (Same one he was with when this pic was taken >>9398894)

>> No.9398973

If this is 3, I'm sure the treasurer had control of the funds because I ran into him on more than one occasion where he had a money box, and once he was headed to his office with one of the guests to pay them (or so they claimed)
Now, whether there was anything in there to pay people is a different story. Coulda just been ferrying coke for mike for all I know

>> No.9398981

So I've never met mike personally, I've only heard the shit about him from a friend who was involved with one of his old house scenes.

But I DID know Jordan, really, really well for a few years. We were best friends for I think four years or so? I was pretty young at the time - still a teenager through most of it (when she was in her mid twenties). Didn't have many problems at the time, I definitely was non confrontational and would just trust her on most stuff. The last year we were friends (about 5 years or so I think) she started dating a new guy after a very long relationship going south. I was happy for her that she was getting out there after the shitty breakup, but she started to do this thing a bunch where I'd try to arrange a hangout, she'd say she couldn't because she had homework, and then get tagged on Facebook at a bar like an hour later.

This went on for about half a year before I was totally sick of it and willing to do something about it. She did it to me again on New Year's Eve, and got tagged again, so I messaged her as gently as I could asking why this kept happening - she was one of my besties, and this was making me really sad and I just wanted to understand. Instead of getting any sort of explanation, she BLEW UP at me. Started texting me insult after insult just to be mean. I cried the whole night. I even showed all of our texts to my partner of the time and my other friends, to see if I fucked something up somehow - but everyone was just as bewildered as I was.

I decided to give her another shot in the morning, to give her a chance to apologize - she could've just been really wasted, right? It was New Year's Eve and she was at a bar. So I messaged her again asking what even happened last night, and she blew up at me, again. Then, over the next two months or so, she passive aggressively mentions me on Facebook, and lies to our mutual friends of that friend group about me to cut off all communication with me. (1/2)

>> No.9398985

(2/2) she effectively cut me out of almost all my friends, and isolated me with my partner of the time (who was also an abuser). I still have no idea what I did to piss her off, because I came at her as a concerned bestie who just wanted to know what was going on. Honestly though I'm glad I got cut out when I did, so I never had to deal with the shit I've heard some of her other close friends had to go through (although I'm glad they're getting out now).

Looking back on a lot of our friendship though, she treated people like shit everywhere she went. She would hang out with people, only to talk shit about them the minute they left. She would say things happened differently than they did and make you question how it actually happened, even if you were there. Quite frankly, it sounds like her and Mike deserve each other.

Was a former friend and I watched them systematically harass and alienate anyone they couldn't squeeze any value out of. At first I didn't see it because it was happening to a recent ex, then a lot of people who disliked me because of her, and then it just kept slowly creeping along until we reached a boiling point where they are running out of friends. Would not doubt that they mocked me, but neither was willing to say anything to my face; they were deathly afraid of me for some reason, which was fucking great.

Take the energy you all have here and form a new convention if that is what you all want to do, start it small and just have fun. It's not about guests or fancy events, it's about dressing up in costumes and having a good time with old and new friends. And, like it or not, we have already hit Peak Anime. An anime-only convention is going to have nowhere near the appeal or drawing power of a mixed nerdshit convention.

Why not post another testimony to these people's behavior?

I knew Jordan for almost fourteen years and I can't even begin to cover all of the manipulative abuse she put me through, but I'll name some key points that happened in recent years.

- constantly complaining and shit talking the people she lived with to me, but turns around and calls them her best friends. Come to find out she was doing the same to me throughout our friendship.

- comes up with every excuse she can think of to hate friends that I introduce to her, especially people I'm interested in dating.

- Dated a guy I told her I was interested in. Then dated a guy not a couple weeks after I broke up with him.

- told me I was the worst person she had ever met, that I was the reason she quit high school when I told her I was dating someone she didn't like. Mind you, she has zero reason to dislike this person.

- told me she had 'feelings' for me to keep me from dating this person. After I kindly turned her down, she started dating Mike only a week later.

- proceeded to shove Mike's company down my throat and would get pissed if I didn't feel like hanging out with him, but would not bestow the same courtesy to me.

I could go ON. But like I said, there's so fucking much. Now, onto Mike. (1/2)

>> No.9399315

Mike was nice enough in the very beginning. But once he got in with Jordan and our group ((i.e. Secured a place for himself to live)) then his behavior did a real quick 180.

- I would be invited over, but both Jordan and Mike would disappear in their room for like... An hour and I would sit on the couch in the living room. This happened on multiple occasions and not just to me.

- Mike told me he was gender fluid, but was only masculine because he was so 'stressed out'.

- would feign panic attacks, especially when someone else was having a legitimate one because heaven forbid someone else has the attention on them for more than two seconds.

- I joined LARP to try and salvage my dying friendship with Jordan and was sexually harassed at a campout. It turned into a huge ordeal and when I told Mike to stop using my name so that the entirety of the LARP community would stop bothering me, he got upset and Jordan sent me a really shitty email basically telling me I don't care about women's rights. All of this happened while I was at work.

- Mike never worked. He never had a job as long as I knew him. He didn't do much aside from sitting on the living room couch playing video games I always wondered how he could afford.

- after doing the mascots for his con, there was the inevitable falling out, but I tried to keep a business relationship with him. He tried to breach our agreement and take my AA table until he realized I wouldn't roll over.

- told me anime pdx might not have an artist alley. Which is laughable in it's own right.

Again I could go on. There is just.... So much to say, but I'll leave it at this for now. (2/2)

I know first hand of some of Tanis' stuff, considering Tanis nearly raped one of my friends after getting them drunk - then kicked the friend out of their place after the person explained they didn't think of them like that.

Jordan would call herself an introvert, citing that being around people "exhausted [her]." What she actually meant was that she was a narcissistic sociopath who was intolerant of other people having thoughts, feelings, or behaviors that she did not directly sign off on. Here is a list of things that, as Jordan's friend, you were not allowed to do without receiving heavy backlash, antagonism, criticism, bullying, gaslighting, or being disparaged to everyone you know (either behind your back or to your face) about:

- Be trans*. Jordan intentionally misgendered at least two trans people in her social circle because they did not tell her directly that they had transitioned, despite this being PUBLIC knowledge. Doing so was always when speaking poorly of these people. Fun fact: she also outed a trans acquaintance to all of her friends/acquaintances without that person's permission to do so.

- Date or show romantic interest someone. Either you or that person were any number of awful things: abusive, creepy, domineering, desperate, "taking [one or the other] away from [Jordan]," attention-seeking, etc. If there was a chance that dating someone would take away any of the time you devoted to her, then it would be doubly worse.

- Make a friend Jordan didn't make first. This new friend would be intentionally excluded from group events that Jordan was involved with, would be shit-talked constantly for any made up reason that could be construed as plausible, and generally made to feel very unwelcome when they did share space. Many of Jordan's friends worked their asses off to try and keep the peace between her and their other friends just so they could keep them in their lives. Many of Jordan's friends LOST friends because they were unable to do so under her constant string-pulling and abuse.

- Become BETTER friends with a friend Jordan made. This was an even worse sin. This would get that friend or both completely ostracized from their friends in no time. (1/3)

>> No.9399601

>>9399596
- Go on vacation or trips. If you didn't invite Jordan on your trips, she would not only prevent you from talking fondly about them or posting pictures of them, she would actively criticize you for going and why you did not include her, even if it would have been inappropriate or financially infeasible for her to attend.

- Have money OR be poor yourself. Jordan famously did not hold jobs or have money that wasn't a student loan or family loan. If you did have money, you were privileged and did nothing to earn what you had or get ahead in the world. If you also lacked money like she did, you had no work ethic and needed to take responsibility for yourself. If you spent money on Jordan, you were "trying to buy her affection," but if you did not pay for her meals/movie tickets/share of gas money/etc. then she would both a) refuse to be involved in whatever was going on (and treat you like shit) and b) complain constantly about how you exclude her from things because she is poor or judge her for being poor (a judgement none of her friends did or would make).

- Have talent. If you were a gifted artist, which many of Jordan's friends were/are, she would alternate between pitting you against one another into made-up rivalries to discrediting or disparaging your work (publicly) to taking advantage of you to use your art for personal gain (having friends draw/paint/design/etc. things for her, build cosplay props, sew her cosplay costumes, etc). Fun fact: Jordan would elicit the "help" of her grandmother(s) to assist in all of her sewing projects, including commissioned projects, who did 90% of the work and received no compensation.

- Plan an event or function. Jordan had to be the head of every event otherwise no one was allowed to go or have fun. If you attempted to plan an event without her, oh, that just didn't happened. If you attempted to plan an event with her that wasn't exactly the way she wanted, then you were "stealing her ideas." (2/3)

>> No.9399604

>>9399601
- Take up space. Jordan became so intrusive in her living environments that she made them impossible for others to live comfortably in. She would harass roommates constantly, would clutter and take up all of the common space and never clean, and would blame it all on her other roommates regardless of where she lived (with family, with S/Os, in the house she lived at before she and Mike moved). It was NOT okay for you to share common spaces with her or make polite conversation, nor to request the space be made open to both of you.

- Ask to hang out with her/initiate conversation/NOT initiate conversation. You were clingy and needy if you spoke to her too often, but if you weren't available when SHE wanted to hang out or talk, then you were neglectful and not a good friend. You couldn't win.

- Have your own interests. If you were interested in something that she wasn't, she would make fun of it ENDLESSLY. But if she was interested in something you weren't, then you were being judgmental of her (even if you openly told her you supported her).

- Be popular. There is nothing worse to Jordan than someone who is getting more attention than she is. To your face she will kiss your ass entirely, and behind your back she'll do everything she can think of to tear you down.

- Let her be anything less than the most important thing in the world to you. This is it. The bottom line. If Jordan did not feel like she was the most important, crucial, and critical thing in your life, then she would attack you, cut off your ties, and spin a web around you until you were either out of everyone in the group's life or you were giving her enough attention to feel like her place was secure. Which never lasted for long.

Please feel free to add to this list. (3/3)

I don't mean in the colloquial sense of being shy, but literal antisocial personality disorder - the inability to empathize with other people and therefore view them as tools to manipulate and throw under the bus for self gain with no emotional consequence because they may as well be NPCs in a game to you. Just a thought. These are the kinds of people that typically raise to CEO positions and such, because they exploit others for their own gain left and right in a way that no person with a sane conscious could ever do.

Not that any of us are qualified to diagnose anyone here, but it SURE sounds like both Jordan and Mike have some legitimate personality disorders that affect their ability to maintain relationships and operate a business ethically.

Ok, I’m going to elaborate on the lost year (roughly March 2015-April 2016). Jordan’s ex-friend group have generally been fairly tight-lipped about the whole thing; most of the processing over the split happened privately or among one another. But I think it has a place here, and I’m willing to divulge some details along with everything else coming to light. This will eventually include damning little piece of evidence about how NewCon 2016 funds were appropriated. First, some background. Many people close to this subject know one another and some have even crossed over to our friend group (I can see everyone trying to guess who their friends are that are posting here). But most of you don’t know me, and I don’t know most of you. This is intentional - and I’ll explain why. Personally, I spent a long time in this friend group on the outside looking in. This was largely because of what I eventually came to learn was as a very tactical ostracization on Jordan’s part over a decade ago. After being targeted and demonized by Jordan in high school, I moved away for college - and though I eventually reconnected with everyone, I remained separated by several degrees from friendships that I had once been very close to. The only image of my distantanced friends that I had to go by was one that Jordan had shaped for me through major shit-talking and rumor spreading, both of me to others, and of others to me. Frequently, myself and another friend (the first, close long-term friend I’d ever made), who’d come to bear the brunt of Jordan’s abuse, were pitted against one another in fabricated feuds in which Jordan played both sides. This was in addition to the “normal” shit-talking she’d do behind the backs of her closest friends, goading each of us to do the same of one another without checking in with those people directly. Everything she said was always a >10% truth--

- there was some part of it that made sense, so we’d believe the rest without going to the source.
Strangely, no one talked shit about Jordan. Later, I would come to learn that this was for fear of what she would do to them. I was made an early example of what would happen to someone if they dared question one of Jordan’s lies or manipulations. Fortunately, I moved away. Unfortunately for everyone else, they were not yet on her open shit list. Yet. Like Mike, Jordan often made herself sound more interesting, compelling and smarter than she really was. I cannot tell you how often I defended her to others, how many times I’ve given her the benefit of the doubt. To your face, one on one, you were her best friend. You can see how this would be believable when you quite literally grew up with her. You “were the only one who understood” and everyone else was out to get her. This remained true until the end. And This. Went on. For years. Jordan was a master manipulator. If gaslighting were a competitive sport, she’d be a nearly undisputed contender for gold. When times were good they were VERY good, but if Jordan had a problem with you or with someone else, your very place in the world was in question. This was what friendship with Jordan was like and we came to learn years later that it was only a love for one another that kept the web from unraveling.

When I moved back, I found that no one was as I’d remembered them. Everyone was quite a lot closer with each other than they were with me, and aside from having been away for college, this was on purpose. To varying degrees, I had been poisoned to them. Nevertheless, as the good-natured and eternally forgiving, loving people are, they were inclusive and generous with me and despite efforts to keep me excluded from many events and activities, it wasn’t long before I’d grown close with them, too.

Despite the continued shit-talking, abuse, and attempted drama-mongering on Jordan’s part, it seemed that this friend group was experiencing a renaissance of sorts while, at the same time, tensions with Jordan were growing ever more taut. I was fortunate in a sense that I had been put at arm's length for so long. While I felt for what my friends were going through, I knew and sometimes voiced that there was one common source to all of their troubles. But like many in long-term abusive relationships, it's not so easy to see the source of your troubles or that there is a way out. That’s because manipulators and bullshitters are cyclical. They talk and misdirect in circles until you’re confused, frustrated, or just fucking tired. Imagine participating in that kind of relationship for 15 and in some cases almost 20 years!

Enter Mike. I was among those who vaguely met Mike while at SAK 2015 with Jordan and the gang, and he was was waving around his fat stack of cash, repeatedly going on about a bonus from some dentists or something to that effect. I guess most of my friends had already met him prior to this at a party or two. I was never introduced to Mike. Not formally. Jordan didn’t make a point of introducing people to other people, especially if it was someone she didn’t particularly give a shit about to someone for whom she was motivated to befriend. Like I said: There’s a reason you don’t know me and I don’t know you. She was the name-dropping sort. She would randomly start talking about someone, referring to them by name only, as if you were supposed to know who they were and what they were all about. I think it was supposed to either impress you or manipulate you into asking her what the hell she was talking about so she could...well, talk.

I spent a good fucking year back in Oregon thinking “That’s nice. Who the fuck is Zach Marsh? What the shit is an anime hunter?” I didn’t know and I increasingly didn’t care - though now I’m proud to call some of these name-drops good friends and even more so, good people.

I thought for a brief moment that Mike was good people. The guy was friendly enough at first. He’d made fast, close friends with Jordan soon after SAK (and now we know immediately started going on dates, the day after he broke up with his ex, damn). He blew a lot of money on Jordan as well as on her friends. He would show up and buy whole rounds of drinks for half a dozen people or start a tab and sit and tell us his drama filled tale as well as that FUCKING story about ordering a palette of fireball for the dentist convention. You know that goddamn story. Mike liked to talk, but he also liked to repeat himself. It was grating but forgivable. He seemed cool. Within a week, Jordan and Mike were in-fucking-love. This was Jordan’s dating M.O. She did nothing with subtlety and was quick to seal the deal. It baffled us, her friends, but at the same time the similarities just made sense. Mike and Jordan were alike in many ways and we would soon come to find they were alike in the worst of ways. A few days within their starting to date, Mike reached out to me and told me he was interesting to get to know me better. He said he felt that we were good people and he really liked Jordan and wanted to get to know the people who were important to her. I was...floored. I WAS FLOORED. He didn’t know yet. He must not have known yet. They can’t have have been doing much talking about what was important to Jordan at this point because he didn’t know that I was the farthest from important that anyone in this group could get from Jordan.

>> No.9399968

You know how for all of you, Mike would buddy up to you and all the while talk shit about you until there was this weird sense of friendship/enemy vertigo every time you were around one another? Well, Jordan had a similar method - but it was considerably worse for some of us. She had a hierarchy of adjectives, and where you were on that hierarchy determined the amount of shit she would talk about you and how bad that shit would be. She made sure to hold really long and often fabricated grudges to keep that shit fresh. And the adjective that Jordan would reserve for the people who would commit the worst offenses against her (those offenses largely being questioning her, calling her lies or bullshit, asking for her to change her behavior in any way, or approaching another friend about an issue like a fucking adult without her as a go-between [it gets more elaborate in her head the longer it festers]) --that adjective was “Crazy”. If Jordan talked shit about someone and called them “Crazy,” she didn’t mean it to drive home the point that she didn’t like them. She would spend days trying to convince you that that person really was capital “C” crazy. If you were or are ever friends with Jordan, you were at some point, for a time, Crazy. By the end of it, everyone was crazy if you asked Jordan. If you think that she has never done this to you, she has. If you think she never will, she will. The reason that you didn’t know me and I didn’t know you is that I was Crazy.

You can imagine my surprise that Jordan’s new boyfriend was reaching out to me, the Crazy One, to get to know me because he thought that I was important to Jordan. I told Mike “Sure. Let’s meet up.” And he met me at a Starbucks while waiting for Jordan to get out of class and I learned all a-fucking-bout him.

Got that palette of Fireball story again, a lot of about LARP, the reason his teeth are jacked (we bonded on this as I at the time also had jacked teeth which had been a point of great anxiety for me) and a bunch of other wacky shit, his passion for NewCon blah blah blah. And then I learned all about you: vindictive, gullible, two-faced assholes who, like me, were also...Crazy. Now this touched a nerve. Because even without personally knowing you, it was evident to me that Mike wanted to make damn sure that I knew that you were... Crazy. He was a victim, and you were his victimizers, and the sob story was just TOO familiar for me to feel an ounce of pity for this man. I felt at that moment that eventually Mike and I wouldn’t get along.

From what I remember, after that, Mike was going about trying to get donations to pay the water bill. He said it wasn’t his fault but fuck it he was just going to find a way to pay it anyway. He had apparently been talking about it loudly on the max and some poor stranger woman took pity on him and offered him the money outright to pay this bill. Mike considered it. He got the woman’s contact information and put her on standby while he continued to call around to churches and other charitable organizations trying to scrounge together this money for an astounding $900 water bill. Ultimately, he found a solution that did not involve taking this stranger’s money to all of our immense relief. I don’t know what it was, I don’t care. I just kept wondering where the fuck Mr. Cash-Wad’s cash-wad went. Well, we know now. Jordan spun a lot of sob stories FOR Mike to us as he had suddenly, within less than a month of their dating, moved into Jordan’s place of residence. This was a house owned by Jordan’s at the time oldest friend of nearly 20 years. You might recall earlier in this book when I referred to this group of friends as good-natured and eternally forgiving.
6/14

>> No.9399975

Well, none were more so than the owner of this house, who elected to give Mike a chance despite being taken advantage of from the GET GO (by stating that maybe they could arrange for him to use the house as a landing pad between getting his own space, and then waking up to him moving all of his stuff in the next day before the other housemates could even be consulted. He would stay for a year.) There was no hesitation to help him. After all, the guy was down on his luck. People were breaking into his room and shit. They were attacking his super cool convention and calling him a thief and a liar. His life was in shambles and he had no friends! And most of all at this point in time, Jordan’s friend still loved her and still wanted to support her so…they did.

If you read all of the posts above, you know what happened next. They spent money on frivolous shit, took lots of Lyfts, ate out damn near every day, and when they didn’t they bought extremely expensive cooking ingredients because Mike just LOVED treating people to good steaks and great food. That’s how he showed he cared, he insisted. By cooking for you. Mike never cooked for me ;). They started going to LARP meetings in Washington every Sunday, having taken complete advantage of another roommate, another old friend of Jordan’s, who happened to have a car and an immense amount of patience. All the while they took advantage of this friend, Jordan would talk mad shit about them to anyone who would listen. Then they absolutely trashed the downstairs of this beautiful house. Jordan had never been the sort to clean, but it became even WORSE after Mike had moved in. It was embarrassing, and made it difficult to stay over after parties or on late night hangouts. The home owner lived in the upper half of the house which was immaculate and understandably off limits, and was effectively pushed out of the common spaces downstairs despite OWNING THEM.

Here comes my first and decidedly only experience with Mike when it came to money: of the many dramas that Mike was juggling at the time, one of them was this giant beach trip. At some point leading up to this trip, Jordan and Mike must have stopped sucking face and generally grossing everyone the fuck out for long enough to discuss the important things in Jordan’s life. Mike’s buddy-buddy attitude toward me did not last long. Everyone else of course, he was nothing but sociable and as inclusive as a narcissist-with-a-compulsion-to-derail-conversations-not-about-himself could be. That was to say, he remained friendly. When it came to me, however, I was often met with a Dr.Jekyll / Mr. Hyde demeanor. He was friendly with others one moment but if I tried to inject myself into a conversation or address him directly in that moment, I was met with a very sudden and, to be frank, alarmingly blank or distasteful expression. It was as if the guy was suddenly blind and deaf, or perhaps I had miraculously incurred the super power of becoming invisible. At first I wondered if there was something fucking wrong with him, if there was cause to be concerned. Was he stroking out? Perhaps Nam flashbacks. Though the pattern soon became clear to me that this was personal, and realized that Mike must now know that I was Crazy.

Naturally, I was wary of this beach trip after Jordan convinced many of us in her friend group to go. Mike had lost a lot of friends leading up to it. These ex-friends wanted refunds and the house, as he said, had already been booked. It would be fun and a good idea for us to take their place so he didn’t have to eat the cost. Reluctantly, I said I would go. Mike didn’t like me as Jordan had made certain of. That’s ok, but was I going to have fun? I liked my friends and was excited to spend time with them, but honestly I worried that the friends who had thus far remained in Mike’s life were probably just as big of assholes as he was.

I would recommend that those with firsthand knowledge of Mike's crimes report said crimes to the police. If all of these allegations are true, Mike would be guilty of Negotiating a bad check (2015 ORS 165.065), Falsifying business records (2015 ORS 165.080), Theft by deception (2015 ORS 164.085), and embezzlement (ORS 164.055). If these allegations are true, Mike could be facing five years in prison.

The cost was split up by how long people were going to stay and I said I’d stay the whole weekend and let Mike know I’d pay him the following payday. As payday approached, Mike continued to pretend I didn’t exist despite my pointed “Hellos” and “How are you”s and if he did say anything to me it was about that beach trip money. I brought my share one evening when I’d gone over with another friend to hang out by Jordan’s invitation. It was starting to become a habit for her to just not be there to meet us, sometimes for up to two hours after we’d shown up at the house. I remember being annoyed because I didn’t want to hear it if we missed them. I wasn’t going to just leave it there because I think I already feared that if I had, he would miraculously “not have received it”. Eventually, this night, Jordan and Mike roll in. My friend and I greet Jordan, and they both greet my friend. I pointedly say hello to Mike and he passed by me without a fucking word. But when I say “By the way, I have my share for the beach trip” and the guy whips around still saying nothing, palm up and outstretched like the goddamn monopoly man passing go. He doesn’t even look at me. So I hold the money out to him and he snatched it out of my hand and walks away. This was hilarious to behold but I also couldn’t believe the it. For a guy who reportedly has the nicest parents in the world, I couldn’t believe he’d turned out to be such a complete fucking creature. I never handed him money again.

The beach trip was fun. Jordan and Mike were disgusting, embarrassing to watch, and uncomfortable to be around, but that would never change. Mike’s friends were respectable and cool and I liked them! It was hard to get the duplexes to mingle but Jordan and Mike played an unknowing hand into pushing us together by boiling down a cabbage into mush which stunk out our entire half of the house and forced us into the other. Good people. Fuck that cabbage though.

>> No.9399982

Remarkably, despite PDA that was the visual equivalent to squelching sounds, it would SEEM that the beach trip had gone off without a hitch. Seem.

Que Jordan’s first of many mistakes she would make after injecting Mike into our friend group (that wasn’t actually Mike himself), which would eventually result in the severing of ties with most if not all of us. One guess at what it’s about. JUST KIDDING you don’t have to guess. It was money. Money issues weren’t Jordan’s normal drama shtick unless it was to make you feel bad for having it, or make you feel bad for her that she didn’t. We were more accustomed to shit-talking, accusatory dissections of conversations, feeding of misinformation and the catty-like play of each of us against each other. When she brought up a beach house money issue to myself and another friend, we were for a few moments baffled. The short stem of the issues was that two friends had underpaid for the beach house. They’d stayed a day later than they intended to. So, Jordan, on the ride over (which she didn’t pay gas $ for) to the beach house (which she didn’t pay $ to stay at), informs us that these two friends have stiffed Mike for an extra night. Our response was that they would not do that. If they owed more money, they should let them know and they would pay it. Basic communication, essentially. Jordan continued to all but INSIST that these friends were trying to short Mike and were just as bad as his ex-friends. And as we became increasingly uncomfortable with the accusation, we repeated our advice and moved on in the conversation.
10/14

>> No.9399983

But we already know that Jordan can’t move on. It would seem she also figured that directly communicating with her friends was also out of the question. No big surprise, but she let this fester. And one day, in an offhand remark to another friend about going to a movie together, she said that she didn’t want to go with them, referring to these long time friends of almost 20 years, who evidently still owed Mike money, as “those people.” Well THOSE PEOPLE had never been informed that they’d underpaid for that trip, but because they had, regardless of their awareness, her highness was offended. WHEN they were informed, it was not by Jordan, but by one of US, to which they immediately reached out to Mike, apologized, asked how much they owed and communicated that they had no idea there was an issue - to which Mike replied that neither had he. Classy, classic Jordan. But sloppy!

That was the thing though - she had usually been pretty good at keeping us all from knowing exactly what she’d said to each of us. But after this, there was no recovery. We placated her over the months, knowing through the years of experience the futility of trying to reason with her, though on a number of occasions we still tried. Many of us still gave her the benefit of the doubt. She became increasingly paranoid over the next few months (more so than usual), but not over reasonable things like people finding out where they got their LARP or bullshit money when they didn’t have jobs or pay rent. No. She just couldn’t figure out why no one liked Mike, how he was worried what had happened to him in the Beast House/Dai Gurren or whatever would happen again. We needed to include him more and have him around more often!!

See, we were getting fucking sick of hanging out with the UNIT that was Jordan and Mike. It was gross, and they often pouted in corners and pretended people were alienating them despite our attempts to engage them (for which we were equally rebuked). Jordan refused to do anything with anyone if Mike wasn’t there. And it was fucking creepy. They tried to start more rumor mills about us to one another but it was ineffective. They even turned to visiting out-of-town friends to rant to - who were quick to shut that shit down. This was coupled with several meltdowns on Jordan’s part that had expedited the widening of the rifts that were growing between her and her friends - attacking them one by one more openly over whatever she came up with at the time. I think at this point, they had taken advantage of or excluded so many of the core group that Jordan’s time old tactics had worn off and we had all begun communicating with each other, piecing together 14 years’ worth of lies and misdirections, and gradually painting a clear picture for everyone of what exactly was going on.

Meanwhile, Jordan had gotten a job. It had been handed to her by an old college friend, had a menial salary, but it was largely a paycheck, more than someone might make in retail, for doing almost nothing. She sat on a computer and wrote a newsletter. Rent picked back up for a little while, but Jordan just couldn’t fucking get over how Crazy her boss was. Every day it was the same thing over and over about why she hated her job (and she sure had a lot of time to chat online while she was working). It was hard to sympathize because it was a fucking job, doing less for more than a lot of people could say. It was almost as if Jordan had never had a damn boss before. News flash, Jordan. All bosses are Crazy. They all suck. You get the fuck over it and get paid.

This was in December almost January. Newcon was either upon us or not far off. I told her myself that that was a bad idea. And her excuse once again had my floored.

See the attached image. Her excuse was that it would be alright and that she wouldn’t have to find another job for a long time because by the time NewCon was over they would have 11K in funds and that at the moment they had 4.5K. This turned out to be that business loan Mike had taken out against NewCon. He still didn’t have a job, mind you. I knew right then and there that everything that anyone had said about Mike had been true. Still, we debated it among ourselves, most chalking his criminal activity up to ignorance and stupidity instead of calculation and intent. We all know now that it was the latter. Sure enough, after NewCon they’d started paying rent on time again. Jordan never did find another job. At this point they’d strained their living situation so irreparably that they were soon asked to move out and were given a hard deadline (which they would later stretch, of course). Nevertheless, they went to more conventions and brought people they liked with them and chalked it up as a business expense. When SAK rolled around again we didn’t want to room with them. They were unbearable as a couple and drama continued to follow them wherever they went. A few of us booked our own room, letting Jordan’s hissy fits about being excluded AGAIN and how she knew we didn't like them, roll off in the anticipation of a truly fun weekend. We took comfort in that we had not paid Mike any money to “book a hotel room.” He had tried to do this a number of times over the course of the year, for a number of events, and had always managed to take people’s money - but to inevitably fuck it up in some manner. The con was fun, but Jordan just couldn’t help herself.
13/14

>> No.9399990

She started the weekend off by attacking one of her friends so awfully that said friend cancelled their hotel/plans entirely and didn’t join us. She began vague-posting about bullies (us) and the importance of not bullying people, specifically citing activities we’d done, jokes we’d made on Facebook, and when we called her out for once again twisting events, she flat out denied that any of it was geared toward us. She was forgiven, not out of belief, but out of pure fatigue (though I was in a rage to be having this discussion AGAIN with my friends about how enough was enough). I all but stopped speaking to Jordan at this point. Her lying, manipulating and abuse of her friends was no longer bearable. As such, we stopped bearing it. When they’d finally moved out, two weeks after their initial move out date (which was due to - you guessed it! - insufficient funds,) no one ever saw them as friends again.

Shortly before their moving out, Jordan had been confronted about her lack of respect for the people and household around her. Her rumor fabrication and abuse of her oldest friend had finally come to bite her in the ass. Jordan, who’d probably only done this sincerely this one time in her life, apologized for her behavior; Mike as well, but how fucking often does Mike ever mean an apology? Jordan was sorry. She was sorry that she had been careless and sloppy and that her years of careful maintenance had fallen so far to the wayside that the grass died. After they moved out, in a half-assed effort to keep their friends, Jordan and Mike reached out and apologized to a handful of the core friend group. Naturally, as the Crazy one, I was not worth the trouble. It didn’t work. Everyone was done, and they didn't bother trying to prove that they’d really meant the sentiments in their cookie-cutter apologies.

>> No.9399992

See, Mike and Jordan are the same beast. But Mike’s manipulations are out of greed, and he uses it as a means to an end. Jordan’s assertion of control over her friends was perhaps her only true aspiration. It was the only thing she ever endeavored to or worked hard at. Mike is a sloppy, lazy con artist and Jordan, lazy in her own right, had taken a liking to the path of least resistance. Her selfishness and Mike’s appetite for indulgence and neglect for responsibility is what really cost them in the end. Mike’s latent mistakes and assumption that he had escaped consequence, coupled with encouragement from Jordan really called attention to them.

Jordan would sometimes say that meeting Mike was the best thing that had ever happened to her, while in reality, it’s probably the worst. You may think that Jordan meeting Mike was the worst thing that ever happened to US. But in truth, it was the best. It finally put an end to the suffering of literally a dozen or more people under one person’s systematic abuse of that group of people. And we got to keep and strengthen all of our friendships -- the one thing she didn’t wanted us to have above all else.

I know firsthand that many of these claims are true. Now, can I prove them beyond any reasonable doubt? Not really. Do I have money to sue him in civil court? Not really. This is how he was able to get away with stealing over $1000 from all of his roommates. All the bills were in his name, we can't get them to prove the lies. As for the insurance fraud, it was reported. Company said they'd investigate it, to my knowledge nothing came of that either. We tried. I might try to present what you do have to the police anyway. Since there have been so many individuals victimized, the police can subpoena any financial records if they have probable cause. Probable cause is normally testimony of an eyewitness. If it crosses the threshold of criminal complaint, they will definitely prevent further victimization. In essence, it is not your job to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt. That is the prosecutor's job.

Because things related to Mike are actually relevant to all of us considering we should stick up for one another when a scammy con like this comes around. Learning more about his scummy nature, as a person, puts forth more reason to get this guy's con shut down. Some random nobody who's just loosely related to the con scene is of no fucking importance.

We're going after the kingpin here, not his lackies/buttbuddies/whatever the fuck the literal who Tanis is. This is less about taking a person down and more about taking a shitty scammy con down and getting Wunderwelt their money back.

Unless Tanis is somewhat relevant to bringing this whole thing down, keep that shit out of here.

Tanis may have been noteworthy if he was some serial rapist in the con scene and the threads were about informing your fellow gulls about him and getting others to speak up to get him justice. But as far as I can tell, that isn't the case.

So instead, please use this thread to warn fellow gulls about Mike - the person who has burned a lot of gulls here personally, stole from Wunderwelt, and is a cancer to the con scene because he literally runs a con. What does Tanis run, Meatspin.com?

lmao, I was one of the people from Mike's old group of friends that attended the beach trip.
That stupid fucking cabbage - we felt bad for you guys.

Seriously though, it was such an awkward weekend.
A lot of us there knew there was drama around Mike, but not many details. I know half of us lived far outside of Portland, so weren't too involved.
All of us were thinking about it, but didn't want to bring it up and dampen the mood, because fuck it, we were at the beach and going to enjoy the moment.

Think that was the first weekend I noticed Mike's change in personality.
Usually he was one of the most talkative people, and acted friendly. But on the beach trip I hadn't seen him in months, and he was quiet and seemed distant.
Just sat with Jordan and bragged about how she was getting her bachelor's (in arts & letters btw), and how she was so amazing and was going to change the world.

Before Dai Gurren, he invited me to live with him and one other, but he decided he wanted a big party house like Beast House before the apartment he lived in at the time.
I figured nothing good could've come from 10 cosplayers all living under the same house, hosting a party every 6 weeks.

On another Mike note, if you were useful to him in any way he would butter you up and pay for all your shit (god knows where the money came from....oh wait, no we do know) Though those people always knew when their usefulness was coming to an end because he'd start guilting you for how much money he's spent on you, and he would eventually start openly mocking you. He would start the shit talking behind your back pretty early though, because he wanted to isolate them so he could drain them all by himself. He wasn't about to share his victims or give them an out. Still sloppy though, I'm surprised he thought he could, at least effectively, keep doing that to people without those people finding out eventually.

This is another story from one of Jordan's former friends.

I was an exec at Newcon 4 in a small department. Everything went fine, no problems at the con - that I was aware of.

After the con, Jordan was singing my praises. She asked if I wanted to stay on permanently. I of course was flattered, so I agreed to stay on in my position. Later, Mike made a post asking which execs we're staying on and I mention that I was. All of a sudden Mike starts saying that he doesn't know if they'll even need me at all, or if my position will still even be a thing. I'm confused, but say I'm available to help on whatever capacity.

A few weeks after the con there is a exec dinner to celebrate and thank us for a successful con. (Which was a shit show itself. Mike told us to meet at a restaurant that didn't take reservations at like 6:30 on a Saturday. 15 people, no reservation. Dumb.) At the dinner, they discuss the restructuring of the exec system. Jordan was suddenly #2 in the con structure, answering only to Mike and my position was suddenly her assistant. Something I want thrilled about, but didn't really care enough to make a complaint.

I work most weekends so I wasn't going to make it to any meetings, and I was also getting to the point where I didn't care. Mike and Jordan were pissing me off and I wasn't that psyched on helping out. Que the drama mentioned above by one of my dear friends, and I'm out. Done with Newcon. Done with Mike and Jordan.

I don't exactly quit my position. I just fade away from all the social media groups. I figured this was a statement in itself. Better than me sending a note or a message, because I couldn't bring myself to have any further contact with them.

Cut to Newcon 5. I am friends with some guests who put on a lot of panels at Newcon, and I help them with one. As much as I didn't want to go to Newcon or be around that convention, I still want to help my friends. I've put money into this panel and I am in charge of one section of it. Mike is given the names of people who are part of the panel months in advance; these people receive free badges for being apart of this group. There were no reported problems until an hour before the panel begins.

On my way to the con (my plan was literally do the panel and get the fuck out - I didn't want to see either of them), I start getting messages from my friends that they are having trouble getting my badge. Mike said I'm not allowed to have a badge because I am redlisted. Because I quit my position and didn't tell anyone. Which, to be fair, I did do. But why the hell did he wait until 1 hour before the panel to mention this? My friends eventually get him to give me a badge. They'd given him the list of names months ago, he could have given them time to train a replacement. And he keeps insisting that this isn't personal... yeah right.

Also quick story. Last SAK, Mike said I could go for free because I was an exec; he said he'd put my name on a list. I spend all the money for the trip, get all the way up there (staying in their room of course), but when I go to get my badge my name isn't on any list. And the name under my position is someone who wasn't even on staff, he was just one of Mike's friends. Luckily, I had a picture of my exec badge so I was able to get one. Otherwise I would have been shit out of luck.

This thread is amazing. Being friends with an ex of his in Washington, I don't doubt the validity of any of this. It's the exact same behavior and questionable monetary situations I had witnessed in the past, only I assumed the cash--that he freely spent on his friends--was due to the fact he never allowed his (employed) girlfriend to spend her own money. At least, not without the threat of a mental/emotional breakdown.

I never identified as a friend and rarely was even friendly, but I witnessed him disparaging every single person in his friend group; I'm truly sorry for those he did that to--he could be quite brutal behind someone's back, then in front of their face if they no longer fulfill a need for him. In LARP he was notorious for screaming at new players and some established players who had cognitive abnormalities.

It would also seem there's a discrepancy in funds from a shoddily run LARP event last summer, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out.

I never met the current (?) girlfriend, but reading this, it seems they are peas in a pod.

Here's what gives me comfort: someday, all the Mike/Jordan/Newcon bullshit will be a distant memory. They'll get caught and sent to court. Or they'll flee the state to torture a whole new group of people. Or they'll fade into the obscurity and mediocrity they deserve.

I'm from the Jordan group. After the two of them were purged from our circle, for months our gatherings would turn into trauma support. "Here's what she said about you." "Oh, and then he did this." "I can't believe they did that to you." Months. It was exhausting.

And then, we got over it. Their bullshit faded away. These last few months have been so happy and freeing when we're together. We don't have the bipolar timebomb armed to ruin any happiness she doesn't grant. I'm seeing friendships blossom and grow stronger now that the toxic cloud of these two has dissipated.

For those of you still reeling from the mind games, mental abuse, and physical trauma: you will heal. And there is a legion of other survivors here to embrace you.

And to Jordan and Mike, because I know you are lapping up every word and turning it into toxic waste: we will stop caring about you. This thread will quiet down and disappear into the Internet black hole. Even if you don't get what you deserve, you'll end up turning into a hazy memory. We'll forget your mediocre writing and awkward singing and pathetic excuses for friendship. You'll become the occasional spontaneous story as we celebrate milestones. And we are much better off.

And if you get arrested we'll have a rager of a party because fuck you both.

I've been thinking about posting for a while, because I was one of the first people Mike treated like shit in the first Beast House. Therein lies the problem, if you're in the community, it's pretty easy to figure out who I am, and defeating the purpose on the whole anon thing, But, fuck it, I've been patient for a long time, and I love this community.

I'm not going into detail about Jordan. I've had a total of two interactions with her, one in person (where I didn't know who she was, but she knew who I was), and an interaction online where I made mention of not going to Newcon, and she was happy to hear I wasn't going. To all of here friends who have posted here - all I gotta say is I'm sorry you had to endure her crap.

I'm really just going to share tidbits and confirm a few things, because like I did say in another post, a lot of his ostracizing and lies nearly drove me to suicide once, and eventually led me to getting a psychiatrist.

-I can confirm the BFF story from the last thread. that anon and I had planned earlier that day to hang out because we were both having bad days. They had come over often with no previous issues. I remember Mike LOSING HIS MIND over her being over when I even let him and the other roommate know, and he didn't raise any objections. I ended up having them leave and Mike began to scream at me, and I screamed back at him much louder. He was not expecting this, in fact he was flabbergasted, and stormed out. At the party in question regarding the abuse, my ex ended up staying up the night with this person (admittedly, I was very intoxicated and had passed out by this point)

-I'm tempted to believe him getting held up near the Beast House and losing his wallet isn't true.

-Mike has spread a lot of lies about me, some that were pretty awful. One included destroying the performance group I had created by saying I was going to kick him out because I wanted to fuck his (at the time) girlfriend - this lie pretty much ostracized me.

(1/?)

>> No.9400651

-Lies (cont'd): Mike's spread some other things about me, but as I've been discovering most of them are hilariously ridiculous. Thanks anon for the hair model story - I've not laughed that hard in years.

-Mike absolutely pits people against one another. I instantly lost a lot of CLOSE friends I'd had for YEARS because people bought into his lies. It's pretty great, because the past couple of years, he's terrified to look me in the eye at conventions.

-Mike purposefully tried to plan a party around a charity event that I had planned MONTHS in advance, and something that at one point he was really interested in partaking of. When I called him out on it, his response was to try and kick me out. He gave me 30 days notice, and my ex and I were out in 2, because fuck giving him any more rent money. He and I made up over this through a mutual friend, because I tend to be a forgiving person.

-Mike unfriended me over facebook once because I made fun of Homestuck. Which, by the way, I only suspect he got into because it was the cool thing that all the teenagers were doing, and the cool thing he wanted to do was the teenagers. I think the only relationship I saw him in with someone well into their 20s was an ex who posted in the old thread.

-One thing that it seems nobody HAS brought up about mike is conversations with him. And by that I mean you're having a conversation with him either one on one or in a group - he tries to take control of the conversation by talking LOUDLY OVER PEOPLE. Amplify this shit by 10 if he was drunk.

I stopped supporting Newcon after the third one because it was obvious their attendance wasn't great. I'm fucking glad Mike is burning, and maybe this community can finally start to really repair the fucking swath of damage he's done to it. I'd argue that Mike's presence turned the PDX community from open and welcome and put it dangerously close to adversarial. Fuck him.

Oh, and I was the one making an attempt to swipe up Newcon's business license, but there was a little too much of a legal grey area that it wasn't worth it. I am working on a con to replace Newcon, because I honestly think if Anime PDX happens at this point it'd be a goddamn miracle. I'll say much I'm making DAMN sure the shit that's happening to Newcon right now does not fucking happen if this con become more than the ever-building idea it currently is.

All that said, I am a bit grateful for Mike's existence - I used to be a heavy drug user like he (I assume still) is, and seeing what he's doing feels like that that could have been me if I continued down that road. So thanks for being a beacon of what not to be Mike. If there's anything positive I can say about you at this point, it's that. I'm never going to forgive you for the shit you did to me, or anyone else.

I admittedly piggybacked on Mike's behavior at the time and that was absolutely wrong of me. I'm getting the help I needed for that (along with the other shit Mike put me through) and realizing that's not how you treat people. That's all I can say to that. I regret being shitty to people and I own that.

This. I know it's a thread about Newcon, but when abusers come in under the guise of being a victim it just derails the momentum.

We are all glad that all the sexual predators feel rehabilitated through therapy, and I hope you continue on that path and have a fulfilling life, but maybe don't hang out at an event with teenagers for your entire adult life and let a new crowd of kids take over.

You can still enjoy the shit you like, you can even go to conventions if that's your bag, but you don't have to be some kind of mentor when you are are a recovering predator.

I feel it's somewhat worth it to mention the toxicity and nastiness of jon and tanis to highlight what a hostile community it is; a hostile and tense communnity is the perfect breeding ground for Mike and Jordan's brand of scumbaggery. They thrived because the way was paved for them by creeps like jon, and tanis had already set a precedent of avoiding all accoutability by relying on blaming mental health and stress for all the abusive bullshit he pulled in the comm. This context is important, not to distract from Mike, but to highlight how he was able to get his claws dug in all over a state-wide community.

Nope. No one over 25 in this thread is actually relevant to the PNW scene still, which is why Newcon is full of teenagers and young kids not poisoned by your oldfag drama. How they are able to enjoy a con with so little content is beyond me, but they have a good time.

The staffers across many cons really do care, and a lot of the ones that walked away from Newcon may start something depending on what they can figure out. I have already heard several of my close associates talking about setting up a new con - they just have to figure a few things out first. It's not easy. I've seen, on the staff side, the birth of three conventions in the PNW. It takes a lot of work.

I'm attempting to put together and chronical the screen caps/relevant NewCon financial fuckery for a new thread since that's what this whole thing is ultimately about. I know there are still people tentitive about stepping up with new information.

If someone is already ahead of me in organizing and compiling the information gathered between the two threads (minus personal abusive experiences as interesting and leveling as they may be for many of you) please start a new one.

The goal is to shut this convention down by gathering as much evidence of financial fraud, theft and embezzlement as possible. Don't let this detail, disappear and blow over.

There are more important things than partying and being "relevant" to the community. Like having a less toxic community where people feel safe. Here's my perspective as someone who helped host some of those big parties. They got smaller after Mike left, sure. He would invite people we barely knew who showed up for free booze, and openly admitted to inviting people he knew would cause drama so he would have stories to tell about them. Plus A LOT of damage would happen to the house and he'd tell people "don't worry about it, I'll fix it" and never would. So yeah good riddance to those ragers. If you want those be respectful to your hosts and CONTRIBUTE. The parties I hosted after Mike left were about having a good time with the friends I care about, not carrying on the legacy of the party house. Sorry you're butthurt about not getting free booze anymore.

Yeah, I remember he purposely invited one person per party that he knew would cause drama.
That "one" person would change each party.

But it was always one person, because he wanted them to cause drama for people to gossip about, but didn't want to invite too many drama-causers, because then it'd kill the vibe of his party.

>>9401181
To be fair a lot of people just didn't want to be around the group after Mike left, and a number of people still don't associate themselves with what's left.
Also that house turned into a disgusting pigsty after he left. Looked like hoarders had moved in - but that's off topic.

I think about 2014? I don't remember exactly. To keep it on topic though, he did talk about the convention a lot, and all the partying he was going to be doing.

I also remember one year (maybe it was at Wonder Northwest? It's been so long, I can't honestly remember.... Whatever.) he went around and offered me, and several of my friends (we were minors at the time) vodka gummy bears and everclear blueberries. He KNEW us, too. He knew we weren't 21 yet. And at Kumoricon, I sawhim offering several of my friends alcohol in the park. Several of my friends told me he gave them booze, too. This was about 2014, also? Several of which, were girls. Nice and creepy.

I mean, it's absolutely not uncommon for people in the con scene who are 21+ to buy bottles of booze for their under 21 friends, but generally it's kept in their hotel room, and also not distributed to minors who are mostly strangers to this man, in public, in broad daylight. Unless I'm looking at cons through rose tinted lenses, here.

I know this thread is dead but for anyone who happens to scroll all the way down here, I really just wanna get this out there:
All of this just makes me really sad; as someone that has personally staffed cons under Mike, I know for every crappy staff member, there's a dozen more that worked their asses off the whole year round to just make this con happen even through shitty direction from the con head:( I'm hoping someone more qualified will be able to take over soon and do justice to all the genuine hard work some of us have done to get the con noticed! I know there are lots of nice faces behind the scenes and lord am I hoping that next year's "resentment/boycott" won't be taken out on them:/
