What kind of blouses are suitable for old school lo? Can I wear just vintage one?

>> No.9466866

>>9466851
Depends on what it looks like but if you have to ask, it's better to just go for brand until you know what you're doing. Baby's "classic" designs work really well and are super easy to find secondhand: Look for big peter pan collars/square necklines with neck ties, detachable sleeves, cotton and torchon lace...
Honestly just look at old brand ads, you'll figure out what to look for soon enough.

You want cotton blouses, anon, with miminal lace (no raschel, try to stick to cotton) but ribbons are okay. Shirring is okay. Long sleeves or puffed short sleeves. No chiffon, bleh. Peter pan collars that tend to be wider. And minimal "frou frou", minimal ruffles. I can try to find examples if anyone wants.

Can anyone give me photos of Vivienne Westwood items used in oldschool lolita, particularly necklaces? I know they were used a lot but I can't find any in my folder, and nowhere online has tagged which photos have VW, so Google is only bringing up modern coords with VW bags. Pic related is Laur_an in 2006, but I know I've seen them in G&LB/Kera street snaps before if I could only find the scans.

A relative has offered to buy me jewellery for my 21st and Vivienne Westwood is the only Western store I can think of that has stuff I might actually use, but I wanted to have a look at which styles of orb necklaces were used back then so I could compare to which of the current stock is most similar. My memory of seeing them in scans is that they mostly seemed to be flat/solid orbs rather than ones with rhinestones, but I'm not sure if it's a false memory or an illusion caused by the low-res photos, because it seems like nearly all the jewellery VW releases is 3D and has gems.

I've ended up with a couple of pieces with "good" raschel through buying sets from Japanese sellers. Good cotton raschel is soft and definitely not scratchy but I personally still prefer lace like torchon as I think even higher-end raschel lace nearly always looks cheap and kind of pixelated.

Meta has done some really nice solids were ruined for me by their use of raschel lace (pic related). It's definitely more bearable in black-on-black.

Unfortunately that bodice is really not to my tastes, so I'll pass. And sorry, I'm holding on the headdress in hope of an olive dress coming into my life soon! I have a lot of green already so it almost works - I bought that headpiece on Fril and the listing was up for nearly two weeks without any comments before I bought it, so it seems like colours like that aren't popular and if you keep looking on sites like that you might be able to find something similar.

Is it really red? On my screen it looks like a wine purple. One of my least favorite colors but that jsk makes it look amazing. On the sizing the Japanese average is about 5'3 but I'm five inches shorter and have had the really early stuff fit near perfectly length wise. So I don't know what's up there, maybe for "image" reasons? Or maybe average height shot up super fast with the current generation. I promise I'm not saying this to be condescending since tone is hard over text, but anyone not average in lolita sizing really should be asking the sellers for garment measurements. I don't use the big ss and Japanese sellers are happy to tell me when it's not on lolibrary.

I'm about 5'9 so I'm used to stuff being short and really don't care anyways, but this one is exceptionally small and unfortunately won't ever look right on me, underskirt or not (it's the bodice that's the biggest issue, not so much the skirt). I’m guessing the person in the original photo is probably 5’0 ft or below.

Thanks, anon! I'm not too torn up about it because it looks so bad on me that it's a "just never meant to be" feeling. Length isn't generally something I worry about, though, even with oldschool pieces as most have ended up being fine (some even quite long!)

I got this IW blouse. It reminds me of the romantic goth blouses I used to see in the 90s, but without being made out of crushed velvet and horrible lace.

I waited <one week to see if WW would put IW or blouses on sale again but couldn't bear to wait another sale cycle out of fear someone else would buy it out from under me. I've never seen this design before and I need to live out my tacky Victorian goth dreams.

It's all about browsing, I have a bunch of pre-2005 stuff and frequently spot more, but you really have to look through EVERYTHING or you miss stuff. Like, spending 40 hours searching all brands on multiple sites everything. The only site that I check regularly so I never miss anything is Wunderwelt, because they update often and I really like their layout and how well they photograph everything. Everything else I just exhaustively search a few times a year, buy what's amazing and bookmark the rest to wait out price drops.

When I'm being lazy I check Wunderwelt, y!ja and Fril since they're easiest to order from and most stuff gets listed there first, when I'm being thorough I check mbok, mercari, maidenclothing, usagiyouhinten, violet blue, tokyo alice, alice furururun, etc, even Lacemarket, because I often find the same item in multiple places and want to make sure I get the cheapest deal. I rarely bother with Closet Child because they seem to keep cheap oldschool stuff in physical stores and not put it on the webshop.

I have a list of like...15-20 brands I'll search for and either check every listing or sort by price and look at everything up to a certain price. Most potential is Baby and Meta, since there are always a ton of active listings for them and a lot of it is oldschool. Least potential is AP because 99% of the listings are for modern stuff and it's hard as fuck to find older pieces. Medium are VM and MAM, since there's never that much listed for either but a lot of what is up is oldschool. IW, BPN, Moitie and ETC can also be fruitful.

I wouldn't normally sperg out and give away my secrets (I guess this isn't all of them), but I'm trying to stop buying right now and it seeing people claim old stuff never comes up annoys me. If you familiarise yourself with Lolibrary and the early Bibles you'll start recognising it. Pre-2002 is hard but pre-2006 is easy. Heck, old stuff gets posted to the FB group all the time.

So go to Fril and y!ja and look through listings for Baby? Nearly everything in Kamikaze Girls has been re-released to death, it's literally the easiest style to find. No problem anon! Remember to filter to each brand's tag if it has one on Fril/Mercari/Mbok rather than just searching the brand name. For most brands searching their official English name is totally fine now and brings up a ton of results (or even more than searching in Japanese does), but I've noticed that for Emily Temple Cute in particular you can get more searching in Japanese, and for some very old brands or brands with a Japanese designer's name as well.

If you like Baby they're definitely the easiest to find, like 80% of my oldschool wardrobe is Baby because of sheer ease of access (plus I hate raschel so avoid a lot of Meta). It's surprising how often older Innocent World comes up as well, and I think their aesthetic can be similar.

When I'm filling out specific parts of my wardrobe I really enjoy using Fril because a lot of cheap stuff gets listed there and you can filter down really narrowly to what you want (ex. Baby the Stars Shine Bright -> Women -> Bag or Angelic Pretty -> Women -> Hair Accessory -> White). You can't do that with y!ja because most sellers put their burando listings in "Women -> By Brand" not the actual item category, so if you filter for, say, bags and purses, you'll only get a fraction of the actual bags and purses listed. yja and fril are also decent for searching by colour.

Try putting in Japanese keywords as well if you're looking for something specific, ex. "cherry" or "strawberry". Doesn't always work but can save a lot of time sifting through. Same with the names of iconic dresses like Karami or the Dessert OP - not all will be labelled with the proper name but enough will to save you 30+ hours searching.

No problem! I'm such a shorty it was shocking to find something so short, so I figured I'd pass it on.

As promised, here's haul pics. Names of things are:

Meta School Jacket '03 (mens size) - Needs to be taken in and cleaned. The cuffs are removable, and all the pockets are functional.
MAM Crown Button Blouse w/ tie and BtSSB Waist Shirring Blouse - Removable sleeves for all!
Btssb 2010 Karami
Btssb Velveteen JSK
Meta 3 tiered Plaid Skirt
Meta Camo Skirt - The apron is detachable, and this one predates the Punkuma series.

There were a couple other pieces in the lot with all the Meta/MAM but it's not interesting. That lot also stinks a bit so they're being aired and I'm trying to figure out if I can clean them myself or if I need to visit the dry cleaners (you can see the print run on the pink Meta waist ties where I did some testing....)

Nope, I didn't get it off of CC! Looks like that one is still up too, so don't cry anon-friend! The one on CC seems to be a slightly different cut too, its scalloped with a bow. IIRC this print had a couple skirt versions, one a heart apron which seems to be the one I have but the heart is missing sadly.

>>9515443
In the process of airing, but they're in rough shape (yellowing, storage smell, some staining) so I was hoping they'd all be water safe so I could oxyclean them/soak them to get rid of any dirt too. But as my experimenting proved the camo print is not water safe at all and now my stupid ass has to fix the dye run. I'm honestly thanking the old-school gods I had the sense to only test a waist tie.

It was something thick that had been dripping down the waist. When I looked more closely it's obviously cum and the girl had gotten it cheaply from someone so... Anon, they're just trying to say that there are stains (you can see what looks like a black ink mark on the lace), not that the lace was cross-contaminated with a different lace. The ivory colorway of Karami JSKs all have that off-white lace for the ribbon on them, no lace has been replaced on the JSK. I think it's just their lighting (maybe fluorescent) making it look much brighter than it is.
