Those horrible chinese lolita drawings from the last thread made me curious, which group of lolitas is really the most brutal, and which is most accepting?

I know Russian and Chinese lolitas are known for it but who is worse? I've never seen concrete examples or Russian elitism (probably because there is no one to translate).

I feel like the US/UK/Aus girls are rather nice in comparison since we do kind of have a bit of acceptance going on, at least for plus size.

Where do Japanese lolitas fall in the spectrum?

>> No.9484997

Been there a couple of times. The stock is the same and you can also do reservations there. You can try on dresses but only with a blouse underneath. Not sure if you can try on blouses. I don't think they lend a petticoat. It's a pretty tiny store and desu it always feels a tad awkward, since it's usually emptyish and I feel like I'm being watched, but that is pretty standard to all tiny boutiques.

Hi, this may or may not be where is ask this but i really didn't know where else to (still new to 4chan and how boards work, also only 2nd year in lolita). But i recently went to a small movie meetup and the girls were talking about how back in the day (theyve been lolitas since 2006,2007) that it was hard to get brand and almost salty about how now you can just go to taobao and some of the offbrand is just as nice as brand ect. Then we got on the subject of how many dresses each girl has ect and i say how i have atleast 20, they both kind of look at their feet or just not at me directly and one says, 'were not going to discuss any of that further'. I'm left confused. Both of these girls ive been in there houses as we are all rather close, and they have way more than i do. I have both brand and indie brand, i have accessories for all my dresses ect. If its because i have aquired all of that within 2 years, i dont understand that either. Fellow comm member here, this girl is a brand ita and can't dress herself. So the reason she got this response is because she owns 20 main pieces and can't even wear a single one of them properly. Our conversation wasn't just about how easy it is for girls to jump into the fashion now, it's that it's so easily available that it's common for people to not do any research and end up looking as shit as you do with a large wardrobe. I am so confused right now.

So I was watching some Shiki scenes on youtube (an anime I have on hold to watch) and I saw this character called Sunako wearing this dress. I fell in love with it. It's one of the few times I've seen lolita done right in anime. I really want to duplicate the coord she's wearing in this scene, but then some questions came to my mind.
>If I handmade this dress, would it be a cosplay, even if I intended it to be a lolita dress? Even if it has good quality fabric and construction? Would I still be able to wear it as lolita, to a meet? Is it okay, if the character is intended to be wearing lolita, or is it just plain stupid?
But then, I found out. This dress is actually supposed to be Angelic Pretty's Queen Playing Cards OP with the matching bonnet. I really, really want it, and will probably hunt it out in actions, but more questions came to me...
>If I did end making this dress (I won't lol), would it be a replica? A cosplay? A handmade dress?
>If I replicated this coord, would it be a cosplay? a simple coord? a cosplay coord?

Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong, but here's my interpretation of this situation:

>If I handmade this dress, would it be a cosplay, even if I intended it to be a lolita dress? Even if it has good quality fabric and construction? Would I still be able to wear it as lolita, to a meet? Is it okay, if the character is intended to be wearing lolita, or is it just plain stupid?

Sunako is obviously wearing Queen Playing Cards. There is no deviation from the actual dress, no creative liberty is taken. If you handmade this dress, it would technically be cosplay AND a lolita dress. The tricky thing is that because it is the exact same design, it could be considered a replica. I'm sure if your intentions were 100% good (which they seem to be in this case) that there would be no shame in wearing the dress and bonnet as a cosplay. Depending on your comm, they might be alright with just the dress or bonnet itself... but if you were to wear the full outfit that Sunako has on (the gloves, wig and any other accessories) you would definitely be in cosplay territory.

tl;dr play it safe, hold out for the actual dress. Don't make a replica it without express permission from AP, even for cosplay. If you really, really want to make it for the sake of portraying this character, just wear it to conventions or for private use and prepare to get shit for it.

I just spent an ungodly amount of time trying to find out anything about her. All I found was that apparently she is German and was living in Japan for a while with her parents and sister. She was signed to a local modelling agency and wasn't a lolita herself. The other blonde model who replaced her was her younger sister, apparently they said so at a meet-and-greet in 2011. I also found a casual photo of (supposedly) her and her sister in a comment on egl, and one more photo of her sister. I bet some of the Japanese lolitas know more about her, since she did do that meet-and-greet.

Does anyone know the general sizing for mid 2000s and earlier meta? I know they were popular in the west for their larger sizes at first but their models seem to be standard size. However some of the meta jsks I've seen irl were hanging off similar sized women and taller, borderline plus size, and busty lolitas seem to have it fit them perfectly. I've got a 27in/70cm bust, not just underbust but bust and lots of jsks and OPs on lolibrary claim to have that as their waist.

There's usually a season's worth, unless you're talking about the mooks, which can have as little as 4 pages. The outfits do tend to be all brand and are usually fullsets (I mean it makes sense, they're trying to show you how pretty their upcoming set release is, so why not put them all on the model). I don't know how much coord inspo you'd get out of that.

They are very pretty and generally have nice backgrounds and graphics though. I like them for that, you can cut out the pretty bits and stick them to your journal, greeting cards, or other stationery. I like to stick the photoshoots of my fav prints on the mirror, they're a nice perk-me-up, sort of inspiring in an eyecandy sort of way (rather than figuring out how to put togerther coords sort of way).

Probably worth noting I got most of mine free with purchase. But with GLB being dead I guess brand catalogues are as good as any for getting nice photos of pretty frillies.

Just to stress a point >>9486404 made.

Clothes aren't inherently lolita or cosplay by themselves. In order to be cosplaying Sunako, you need to be wearing the wig, the gloves, the socks, the shoes, the sclera lens (or at least make an effort to look like the character). In order for it to be lolita, you need to be wearing a petticoat and be styled lolita. If you put on the wig and gloves, people will assume you're in cosplay, and if you're not wearing the wig and gloves people would generally assume it's a lolita replica.

So basically, if you decided to handmake the dress, if you use it as cosplay it'll most likely be judged as cosplay (and you might get booted out of lolita meets, or at least people will keep trying to explain you're in the wrong meetup). If you wear it like a lolita dress you'll be judged on wearing a replica, even a homemade one.

Normally there's some leeway to explain that you decided to copy a brand dress to expand your sewing skills (like learning how to sew with velvet, how to add gromets), but since this dress came from anime and is also an AP dress, it's hard to say if people will react positively. Some lolitas just don't like the weeb connection between lolita and anime, so anime-inspired dresses can kind of set them off.

Affordable hotels with event spaces usually are trying to do/be too many things at once for too cheap a price so you get a lukewarm experience across the board.

I've ordered their arabesque rose JSK from them, Clara OP, and two Marie Antoinette OP from them. I think their quality took a dip previously - I have another JSK from them that feels like 20 count bedsheets - but recently I think their quality is very good. I have been very pleased with all the recent releases including the Antoinette Fleur OP! Good quality fabric, good construction with finished seams, and close attention to detail with the trims, lace placement, and ruffles. That being said, though, I do think that they need work in matching their fabric colours, but this is on par with other brands I've observed.

Individual issues:
>Clara OP has not one, nor two, but three mismatching browns. I take off the bows when I wear it because the bows quite frankly do not match the cooler toned ruffle on the bottom
>I've heard that the previous Antoinette Fleur has dobby fabric instead of the striped fabric. People also commented the dobby fabric seems to be of better quality than the striped fabric. That being said, it still holds up well for me and looks wonderful, but I do not have a comparison to the 2009 release
>the random brown bow and trim on Arabesque Rose JSK

I hope that helps.

Has anyone made a lolita capsule wardrobe? Right now I kind of have a bunch of random coords and a bunch of accessories that kind of match but don't exactly match most of it. I want something more cohesive and easy to coordinate for everyday wear.

>>9487832
I think it's really hard to pull off as an actual starter wardrobe or because you're on a tight budget since if you're shopping online it's really vulnerable to being fucked up by items being a different colour IRL than you expected from pics. I tried really hard to make my wardrobe cohesive and within a tight colour palette when I started out and it didn't work because a lot of stuff I ordered was darker/lighter than it looked in pics and I had to either sell it or accept that I was going to have to have a wider colour palette than I'd originally planned. It's easier if you wear black, but reds, browns, pinks, whites/creams and lavenders are all really inconsistent between brands and can be a bitch to match.

For travelling with or downsizing a large wardrobe it's really great, though. When I was in college I used to bring a capsule wardrobe of 5-10 coords with me whenever I went home for Christmas, and I've found packing lolita for trips really fun because it inspires me to get the most out of my pieces and mix and match a lot (I end up wearing a lot of oldschool when I travel because it's the easiest style to get away with using the same shoes and bag with everything in). But unless you want to be buy-selling a lot, it's really easiest to go capsule when you already have a large wardrobe and can check how items work together in person.

I'm making a starter wardrobe right now. For reference my style is between old school, gothic, and sweet with the focus more on individual items looking good together than fitting into any particular ~look~.
Here's what I'm putting together:
>1 very plain OP
>2 JSKs, one printed one not
>long sleeve blouse
>short sleeve blouse with adjustable sleeves
>a bunch of random legwear, some of it plain and some with edgy li'l crosses
>a couple headpieces, but I'll make something if I want more
>a plain black bag

I think the important thing if you've got a medium-sized one and want to make it more capsule-y is identifying wardrobe gaps, like if you have a lot of black but no simple black hair accessory, or a lot of wine but no wine shoes. Once you've got that sort of base it's really easy to build off.

>>9487893
Yeah, I think fyeahlolita's templates are pretty basic (they're from that transitional period when modern lolita prints were in but a lot of the styling was still oldschool and "match everything to the lace on your dress" wasn't considered an outdated and unbalanced way to coord) - a single pair of cream shoes and a cream bag def. won't get you far with lolita nowadays. A bag is one of the biggest items in your coord and one of the first things people notice so I think it's good to have a few (or a lot) and if you ever branch out into different substyles you basically need different shoes for each, in addition to flats for days with heavy walking, boots for winter, etc.

I successfully kept my normie wardrobe as a capsule wardrobe for three years, but that's because it's easy to be brutal with culling mainstream clothes because they have no resale value so you get the instant satisfaction of donating stuff rather than having to wait for things to sell. I always try to build a capsule for other jfashions I want to get into as well, since I know I'll never invest heavily in anything but lolita, but in practice I end up just having one or two outfits in those styles rather than building anything I can mix and match.

>shoes and bag in black, brown, or ivory/cream
>hair accessory matches main piece or shoes
>jewelry in bronze

If most of your non main piece items are in the same or complementary colours, you can get a good amount of coords out of just a few items.

She doesn't really have a method, but you can pick up some things like putting everything in one image, making sure each main piece has 3 different coords, etc.Whereas fyeahlolita starts with a completely blank slate, and her formulas are quite outdated.

All the hoodies, super baggy T-shirts, thigh-highs and platform boots/sneakers with natural black hair that you see from a lot of the Japanese side just give off the "too sick to wear anything that isn't comfy despite expressing your sickness on the outside" impression. I think the best you'll get is menhera themed lolita t.bh. The casual "too sick to not be comfy" aspect is pretty much the only thing that keeps it as a loose style instead of a theme/motif. You'd have to modify your coord to be considered ita by modern standards and it'd still come off as fussy from the detailing on the bust and petticoat in comparison. Considering that you'd be better off asking how to work lolita items into menhera than the other way around.

I'm just looking for options for her to pick from, I already gave her lace market, wunderwelt, and closet child. Souffle Song has a US site. But since they're pretty iffy I'm not going to recommend them.

Can you share the name on the Paypal account? There should be a full name available

I've sent it to the LM mods already, I just wasn't sure we could share names here since sometimes it's against the rules and sometimes it's not. It's not against the rules to share scammers names, is it?

name and shame, shouldn't scam people

I was scrolling through Lace Market when I saw this unfamiliar JSK going for cheap. I thought it looked cute enough, so I read the listing and, holy shit, it's Bodyline?

Mr. Yan should fire his photographers and hire the lolita who took these pics.

What´s wrong with buyers/sellers on lacemarket that won't leave feedback?

Look at that wonky bow and shitty lace. You can tell it's bodyline ffs.

Note that I said "cute enough". Meaning, I get that it's a shitty dress, it's just cute enough for my low-ass standards. I was wondering if it was worth buying it to rip that sad bow off and wear it casually, but as soon as I saw it was BL... Nope.

It just surprised me how okay it looked compared to BL's disgusting stock photos, and it made me wonder if we'd think more highly of BL if their photos and website were much nicer.

Are you new? This has been widely known in the community for years, there's literally an entire tumblr account dedicated to showing worn/flat photos of Bodyline's stuff because their stock photos are inadequate.

If you think it looks cute, then why not get it? What does it matter if it's bodyline?

OT but if any of you gulls are in Manchester I hope you're doing alright

I've been wearing Lolita since 2010, but I've kept to myself pretty much the whole time. I've only been visiting cgl for a month or so. Sorry, I didn't realize that Bodyline's quality had improved since I've pretty much been ignoring them the whole time I've been into lolita (except for shoes) and I never bothered with the whole tumblr thing.

>>9488982
My old brand-whore ways, haha. But actually, I might buy it since it's cheap and I'm feeling curious about what it's like in person.

thanks anon, I have a lot of family in Manchester and I was super worried, even though I knew none of them were at the concert. It's shocking to have an incident so close to home.

>>9489105
I'm not sure how their quality control is though, some of the pieces I've had from them have been the best-quality Taobao I've owned and others are ehh. Mostly they seem pretty good though, I have a skirt, a dress, two blouses and two bonnets from Surface Spell (Gothic) and even their ehh stuff was medium-high Taobao tier.

There are two surface spell shops, you might wanna specify which one.

surfacespell.taobao.com
and

I have stuff from both (got two dresses actually, forgot), which is why I didn't specify. I don't think the quality difference is tied to a specific shop (I have the same blouse from the same shop in two colourways and the quality of the second one I ordered was worse), and they all have the same tag anyway.
