This year was my worst year, not because of Acen itself but because of issues with hotels. Because of that I missed out on a bunch of meets up and panels. Very disappointed.

It's not that hard, you just have to not give up immediately. I had to play so many people's second and third songs because they would just quit as soon as it got a little fast or they messed up a few times.

There's no shame in starting in the low numbers, that's what they're for. There's also no penalty for failing, so you should just try your best even if you are obviously gonna fail. Once you get okay at even one of these types of games, you can play them all to some degree.

My biggest gripes were as follows:

It seemed that the flaws lied mainly in the paneling. Of the 8~ I stood in line for over the weekend, 3 of them ended up being cancelled (Muv Luv, that one Hentai panel, and then another one Sat afternoon).

Additionally, the schedule had lots of empty spots, as if not enough people applied for panels, or ACEN was overly picky about which panels to approve, which feeds into the next point...

The lines for the panels that did actually happen were ridiculous. 30-45 minutes wait on a good day.

The letters are like a hard plastic, and are pretty stable. The hat itself fits pretty well on my head. Only slipped off once because I was intentionally wearing it super tilted to the side. Not fun to wear straight on with a wig because of all the trapped heat. My mother loves it. I'll likely order one off their site in the future if I have money to blow.

I'm not a big hat wearer but I have fun with casual weeb wear.

This is why I don't go to panels, especially fandom ones. I went to several my first year at Midwest and it was all just summaries, lame guessing games and nothing informative/interesting at all. Not to mention the hosts being confused and poor speakers.

The best panels are the ones that either involve demonstrations or discussion (beyond q and a), or some other form of audience interaction, so you could definitely work with a "What NOT to Write" type panel, especially if you find good cringey examples.

The first big thing was that the indoor area that the shoot was moved to was never really indicated on the map, so we had to improvise where to do the shoot/had to move mid-shoot because we were blocking an elevator. The second thing was that it wasn't clear who was running the shoot, so there were two guys trying to run it at the same time in the beginning, both doing different countdowns and shit. Eventually one of them stopped and the guy who was left in charge seemed like he'd never run a shoot before. We got through basic character shots and almost didn't do anything past that because he'd call up for set shots that only had 2 or 3 girls cosplaying. A lot of the group also made it difficult for cosplayers to get through when it came time for their shots, and it was really reminiscent of the old homestuck shoots where no one would listen. Overall, it was mostly just poorly run in a shitty location, and it was really bad compared to the shoot last year.
