More or less like every year I go to ACen although this had a bit of extra fun in it. Oh and I went to the wrong tower twice trying to get to my room at the Hyatt.

Only went to three. Holy shit I've never seen 3 people die on the Oregon Trail that quick and at the same time. Tried to go to the Love Live Sunshine panel on Sunday but something better happened in place of it.

It was actually pretty chill. Should've gotten a picture before everyone scattered.

I posted the Trash Live swag in the last thread. The SPM You Watanabe fig towers nearly over every fig I own.

Was fun. I liked the game room this time around way more.

Went to the Lovecraft one and Fire Emblem one only really. Both were better as it was nice going to a smaller panel that wasn't Oregon Trail or Hentarmageddon. Went to part of Otaku Rap/Hip Hop 101 which was hilarious for the while I was there

This has to be one of the most organized years they had. The Donald Stephens staff were extremely friendly ( I know people bitched about the panel room doors but they always politely asked and were happy to show the correct way. )
I wish I had done more but I got my foot crushed at the soap bubble .

I got better pics of the Jojo shoot. It gets bigger and better every year!

Actually had a ton of fun this year even, mostly just wandering around going to photoshoots/meets and browsing the exhibit hall.

Synergy was cool (and surprisingly tame) even though I was too tired to stay for TeddyLoid.

Panel programming and guests were pretty shitty, and it's unfortunate that it seems to be expected from ACen at this point. About 3-4 interesting panels were cancelled and even before that there was basically nothing going on Friday afternoon. The atmosphere and hangouts made up for it but the staff needs to get their shit together.

Everyone at the /cgl/ meetup on Saturday seemed really chill and I really regret missing Make Anime Great Again. I was hanging out with a buddy and the panel we went to instead ended up being really shitty. It was nice meeting those of you I did talk to, though.

Also despite posing for a ton of pictures, the only picture I've found of myself was one I DIDN'T pose for.

Yup, I remember you! I went to the arcade later but didn't see Initial D anon. All the machines were jam packed even when I last checked at ~1AM.

I missed that second Jojo photoshoot because I didn't even notice there were two until afterwards. Bit sad I didn't see those stands or Forever in person, people really went crazy with the Jojo cosplays on Saturday.

I had a lot of fun and tons of wanderlust having fun taking photos.

I played in the OW tournament on Team 8. Was heavily disorganized, with tons of technical issues, but it introduced me to 8 random people and we became good friends who still keep in contact through FB and Discord.

It was pretty good for my first time. First time I actually went to a con. I think the next time I'll actually go in cosplay and get a hotel room.

Only panel I went to was the MAGA panel, and that was fun. We were all drunk, the panelists were drunk, and we were just yelling at each other about how each other's tastes were shit.

Pretty fun. Met as lot of cool people and had a good time walking around with them later.

I didn't buy anything this time. Any figures or other merch were pretty expensive, and this was pretty much a last minute thing for me, so I didn't have money saved up for it.

Probably going to be going to AMW in about a month, and I should have some cosplay lined up along with more money saved up by then. Don't know how we would organize the room, since I think there were about 4 -5 other people who were looking for it, but I guess we can make a thread or something when it gets closer

This. It's a combination of desperate, socially awkward dudes and just enough chicks to feed them that they feel comfortable. My first ACEN I remember seeing a girl in a bunny suit getting pictures taken. She was posing pretty normally at first but then started getting pretty risque. Was a shame about the weather, but I had a really great time overall. Actually, I'd rate my satisfaction higher than last year's con due to all of the great people that I met.

Yeah, I lost my badge for the second ACen in a row. Actually, I think someone cut it off my belt. Had my badge wrapped around the helicopter retention lanyard on my belt, so there was absolutely no way it could have just randomly come off. Nonetheless, I had to pay for a new one.

I only went to two panels. I went to the Metal Gear History panel, which got hijacked by one of the audience members who wouldn't stop interrupting to spew facts about guns to the host. He knew his stuff, but I really wish he would stop interrupting and just let the host talk. I ended up walking out midway through. I also went to the Make Anime Great Again panel with the /cgl/ group, which happened to be a blast. Memes everywhere! Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Had a great time! Everyone seemed really cool and some of your cosplays were really on point! I feel bad for that one anon that got charged almost 60 bones just for ordering 2 drinks and a soup in the Red Bar. I didn't get sick, but I wrecked my shoulders from the weight of my plate carrier. I figured it would be cool if I wore my plate carrier with actual ceramic armor plates this time around. I ended up weighing it on the digital scale outside the Hyatt exercise room and the results was 35 pounds. Hopefully the pain eventually goes away.

It was my first time at ACEN and all my expectations were met. Great venue. Lots of people. A lot of really good cosplayers compared to what I'm used to in Detroit where I usually attend youmacon.
Only downside was the weather was really topsy turvy. I can handle wind/cold but the rain kinda sucked since all my wigs were heavily styled and would fall apart in the moisture.

My roommate had his badge cut off his belt loop between our walk between the Hyatt and the Double tree. Had to pay 30$ to replace it so wasn't as bad as it could have been. Still sucks.

Second con I've been to. It was bigger than Youmacon but I didn't feel too freaked out. Honestly it's felt more like an exhibitors con with the larger industry presence. Also I felt like stuff was cheaper at Youmacon.

I went to an anime improv panel and the self publishing one. The improv one consisted of audience volunteers and complete newbies trying to play the games while the group who was hosting the panel tried to lead them in the "right" direction. Self publishing was okay just kinda boring. Ended with the chick shilling her book. It was pretty bad but not the worst thing I've experienced. There weren't too many that I wanted to go to anyways. I liked the cosplay meet ups I went to though. Would continue to do those in the future

not OP but im a regular Youmacon attendee so I can say that it's pretty similar to ACEN minus the good dealer hall.
Youma never gets the big name dealers or brand name merch like ACEN does with Goodsmile etc etc etc. Its more Artist-heavy with a consistent handful of dealers and B-list artists like the author of Megatokyo.
Not a lot of big name cosplayers attend either but the turn out is similar to ACEN, as is their use of 2 different buildings that you'll find yourself travelling between throughout the weekend either via foot or the people-mover which is like the sky walk at ACEN except its a raised train that you pay 50cents a ride to be packed in with sweaty cosplayers and local crack heads.

I like ACEN for the good dealers hall and guest list, but I consistently attend Youma because it's a good local con thats at a pretty venue for cosplay photos and a big turnout so lots of opportunities for new acquaintances

I personally like Youmacon a lot better but that's because I've been consistently going since 2012 and it was my first con. It's pretty similar especially since both cons take place in a hotel so I actually felt really at home when I was at the Hyatt over the weekend. In general, I really like the Renaissance center building layout and the cobo hall is really nice too. Acen was very confusing for me and I often had to ask for help haha. I got the hang of it by the end of the weekend though.

For any anons suffering from con plague, I highly recommend getting ahold of some elderberry syrup in place of NyQuil. It's known for being highly effective against cold and flus. You can find it at Whole Foods, take 1 teaspoon twice a day. Also it tastes delicious.

I don't think you should feel like you'd be out of place. This was my first time going to a /cgl/ meetup but it was tons of fun and I ended hanging out with some of them a lot during the con. I think it's impossible to be out of place since it was such a motley crew but everyone was super friendly regardless. We were drinking at red bar when I met up with them on friday though (I'm not even of age, I used a fake ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) and then drinking more at the room party later, but I think on Saturday there was a meet at the MAGA panel and a photoshoot that you would've been welcome at. There's no reason you can't show up and hide your power level, and do a little lurking before deciding if you want to introduce yourself or sneak away. If there's a meetup at youmacon and I end up being able to make it, I'm definitely planning to hang out with more gulls.

I dont usually go to panels at any cons but from what I browsed at ACEN; They're not that different from what shows up at any other con.
The usual 1-fandom specific stuff like quiz shows and games. The usual Yaoi panels. The usual SJW panels (gender in anime etc etc etc). The usual How-To, and the usual Hentaii panels, etc etc etc.

Really good?? Theres a shit ton of stuff there every year and I'd almost say its bigger than ACEN's. The only downside is it isnt very ventilated and gets very stuffy. No convenient door to the outside to open like at ACEN.

No idea. I'm not a partyer so I couldn't say. Same for the rave, I never go.

Parking is a little tricky and you should budget at least 60 for the weekend for it alone especially if you arent getting a hotel room at the Marriott.
Or if you're okay with walking a fair ways for the cost of free parking; You can park in the casino's parking garage which is completely free, and then just go into the casino and use the people-mover upstairs and take it to the convention center.
If you get a hotel within the city you can easily just take the people mover back and forth from the convention center, your hotel, and the casino where you're parked.

My brother actually made them, but the wings are made of wood with clear cord threaded into tiny holes. The cord goes through the top part of the crystal and it's held in place with a crimped bead on the inside. The wings can fold in and out if there's rubber bands around both of them in the back and they're held in the harness with a metal pin. The wings aren't that heavy so it's nbd, but the harness can get annoying and I need another person's help to put on and take off my dress.
Also the crystals usually have individual LED's in them but they were acting up so I chose to forgo them, pic related is what it usually looks like. (Pic is from like 2-3 years ago, excuse almost non-existent makeup haha) The LED's definitely add some weight to the wings though.

Kobayashi and Toohru cosplayer were really into it.

This is my first year with my camera at a con and it's really fun to ask for photos and see how the subject poses

I enjoyed most of the con, minus two things.
Some bastard stole my McDonalds mask Saturday morning, that put a real damper on my weekend plans.
The secondary thing was that it felt like the paneling was left by the wayside, in order to promote the merch. I understand that merch and ticket sales to buy merch are the blood that makes this con flow, but gimping your panels is like neutering the soul of your con. Several of the panels i tried to attend were moved, cancelled, or even worse, the panelists didn't even want to be there. I really hope that ACEN can expend slightly more effort next year into drawing a wider pool of panels and panelists, because it felt seriously lackluster, especially since with their reputation they can draw from the best of the best.

Also, the weather was shit. 85 F when I left Lexington Thursday afternoon, 41 F when I woke up Friday morning in a Rosemont parking garage. Shit, it was cold. Thankfully I brought a fuzzy sweater.

was the highlight of my weekend, actually. Unfortunately I didn't get to go to the ah, exciting one, on Friday night, but me and several of the fun denizens of our Mongolian costuming board got together over drinks, and then infested the MAGA panel with our physical outpouring of autism. Got to meet up with a few familiar faces (Touhou wolf guy, reimu, military anon), and we got to REE the panelists into oblivion. We were going to enjoy a scientific viewing of the hentai panel afterwards, but sadly the panelist didnt show up and it was cancelled!

Was my first time at a larger convention, and i enjoyed it pretty well. Didnt see much of it outside of the vendor hall tho. Was stuck at my con booth for a good chunk of the weekend. Did get to sneak out for the May'n concert and poke my head into the game room, but it was primarily an advertising trip. Got rear-ended on the way out of Chicago, which wasn't great, but the car took it like a champ. Never made it to any of the meetups tho, unfortunately. Maybe next time.

I wish it was something as glamorous. I have been staff for my convention for the last 4 or 5 years, and I had the weekend off, so they asked me to help run our table. In exchange, I got one comped meal, the hotel room (a bit out of the way, but really nice for what we paid), and our badge. Id do it again for sure, but ACEN is the furthest out we travel, since we're not big enough to justify costs.

Okay so whenever you took this photo..I'm kinda curious here. I know whose GITS car that is but that red SUV next to it, I'm kicking myself for not taking photos. It had 3 tires slashed. I'm kind of curious on what happened. So this was clearly before they were slashed so that answers one of my questions. I had walked past this SUV before I came into the con on thursday but as I was packing stuff up around 12:30am on Sunday, I walked past it and 3 of the 4 tires were fucking flat. Neither the GITS car nor any other cars around it had tires that were flat.

Been going for ten years, on and off, thanks to 'the curse'. This year felt...different, I can't quite place why. In any case, had fun, though not as much time to have fun, came in on a Fri rather than Thursday, and busy busy. Didn't get much sleep for reasons. May run a room again next time, this one turned out to be fine.

In general? Fucking shit. Maybe it's me or because I missed segments, but generally, what wasn't cancelled, was mostly ass. Wanted desperately to goto the Muv Luv one, but it was cancelled. Oregon Trail I missed because of reasons I can't quite remember. Some panels would just have terrible speakers, terrible presentation/coherence, and that's before you get into things like Monstergirl panel, which while it turned out to be in general about monstergirls which was nice, was run by a cringey SJW who seriously was going full moral purity - it just kind of made me wonder why would you even run a monstergirl panel?

I liked them, even though it took me forever to find you lot. I don't think I sat exactly quiet because of turboautism or anything, but because I liked drinking in the atmosphere.

And thanks again Anon's Sister for the party room hookup. I remember Cedric roughly, from years ago. He always runs a room like that, and I somehow find my way there usually. My glasses are a bit damaged though from nearly stepping on them. Still, had fun.
