I really want to do a Georgian naval/pirate sort of look but I'm struggling to find references. I don't like most ouji pants and prefer 18th century kneebreeches. For some silly reason for my first ever corset I decided to make one from the early/mid 18th century lol I used "Stays and Corsets: Historical Patterns Translated for the Modern Body" by Mandy Barrington. It's really cool 'cause they'll take the pattern and stuff from an existing, historical garment. It shows you how to draft it to your own measurements too.

If you've never made a corset before there is a lot of information missing, like about seam allowances and ways to go about binding the edges, so I just had to look at a few other sources. It turned out really well though! I can post some WIP pics if anyone is interested.

Historical costuming is one of my hobbies. I have several books on the subject but would like to try my hand on construction. It's been easier to find later centuries (Victorian and on) and the renaissance in my one horse town, but I want to find reliable sources of earlier periods too.

Hello hello! Had a few anons tell me this was going on.

Right now, I am a little busy helping my girlfriend move, so I wont be of much help until sunday evening or so. I'll upload some fashion plates and pattern PDFs when I can.

"The Cut of Women's Clothes" (there's several volumes out there for different eras) is the most common book I've used. It shows you pattern pieces and garments which really helps you understand construction if you're draping/flat patterning.

For patterns... I like Laughing Moon though I've always altered the patterns I used from them (mostly tweaks but I can't speak to the vanilla patterns). Redthreaded is amazing, I love my Sense & Sensibility patterns. American Duchess has some great looking patterns but I haven't tried them out yet. The sole encounter I've had with the "true" Baroque era I draped & patterned myself so if you'd like advice on that front I can help.
