The major lifehack for me was to wash, dry and style my bangs before cutting (some people recommend cutting hair when wet, but that does not work for me) and to press the scissors to my forehead to prevent excess movements. I use my table mirror which means that my head is bent down slightly which prevents getting loose hairs into my eyes. Of course you should go slowly and do not cut too much at a time.

Okay wow I'm pretty sure the replies to this are trolls; you're fine, anon. Some lonely people without actual relationship experience don't realize that strangers hitting on each other isn't how most relationships start.

I just recently had an experience where the 'red flag' thing came into play but I decided to ignore it. I was all frill'd up at a concert and I met a guy who was complimenting my looks and such, I gave him the little intro schpiel to lolita that I've recited by now. We hook up a few weeks later and he asks if I have a daddy kink to which I reply no, sorry. Didn't see the correlation since I hadn't worn my frills in front of him since the last time and forgot that might be a concern. (All my bad. If I just saw past the sweet talk.) Fast forward to another concert, his concert, by this point I may or may not be catching feelings. I'm dolled up and he compliments again, shows me off to his bandmates, that kinda thing. Slightly creepy in retrospect but it made me happy his friends approved of me at the time. I end up going to his place that night, and I can't recall how it came up, but he said something along the lines of "you know what you're doing when you're wearing that, Nobokov."

At this point I go full /cgl/ on his ass and he's laughing about how I got so defensive so quick. (My full gull came out. I may as well have shat a nasty seagull shit on him.) I'm making plans to leave his house early at this point because he's being pretty creepy about it claiming I seduced him by wearing Lolita.

Before I leave, he says something that haunts me still: "You're the only lolita I've met in real life. I've only ever jerked off to them before."

>inb4 judging me as a person and not the topic at hand

Point being, maybe this guy was especially bad, but this isn't uncommon. I've had similar things happen since, and things I didn't notice were similar happen before. Narcissistic people sexualize things to make your hobby about them and pleasing them.

Exactly. It doesn't have to be lolita. It doesn't even have to be clothing! It can be stuff like gaming or drawing. Yes, drawing. There are really people out there thinking you're trying to Loomis your way into their pants, as if it's some impossible task to find some dick. People can be trash. Trust your gut. I am very leary of people who lay the lust on me right out the gate. it creps me out because I do not work that way. I have to know the person and trust them before I can get saucy with them.
if someone strikes a conversation their attempting to at least learn about me and teach me about themselves--creating a bond. why should I feel comfortable with anyone who wants to get physical just based on my looks, without even knowing me? what if I'm a serial puppy killer or strictly into ball torture?
If I was into short-lived hookups maybe obnoxious flirting would be a major currency to me. I like to go the distance with a single person and get all inside them. every person is different.
if you're mad it's because you see women as pieces of a monolith.

As far as I know you used to be able to make a new account with any e-mail address as your paypal address, they just assumed the e-mail was connected to a paypal account. Smoking weed is extremely common (and legal) in my country and I regularly partake in this. Being a lolita, I sometimes smoke weed in lolita too.
The smell of weed doesn't really cling to clothing for a long time (as opposed to tobacco) and I take measures to prevent ashes from falling down onto my clothing by always wearing a closed robe while smoking and taking it off before going out.

I spent my first couple of years in lolita resisting getting bangs because I was scared they'd make me look like a kid (had them as a kid and hated them), but I realised they looked totally different on my adult face and when I took the plunge I loved it. Works better with nearly every hair accessory and I pretty much stopped wearing wigs since, since my own hair is cute enough now. I trim them myself but I'm lazy so I don't do it often, I tend to cut it shortish and then let it grow long and curl it under because my hair grows fast and maintaining them at the perfect straight level would mean trimming every few days.

It also makes me way less stressed about getting my eyebrows perfect lol, since even when they're not long enough to cover them the visual weight of the bangs means brows don't look as prominent.

Ever feel like someone is stalking you on social media, but you can't prove it? Either I have the same computer use schedule as this other girl (which is strange, since we're on different continents), or she's following lolita pages waiting for me to post, because she nearly always responds to the same threads within about ten minutes. Usually, she says something really similar to what I've commented. Very rarely, she'll reply directly to me.

Hypothetical example:

My post: "My dream dress is Vampire Requiem in red, I'd love to get it one day, but I'm so scared of the boning being damaged on older AatP."
Her post: "I really want every AatP piece in red, but the corset pieces make me nervous. What if the boning is damaged by the first owner??"

It could just be coincidence, but she's posted on enough threads on enough different pages that I'm starting to wonder.

Whether you smoke weed or cigs, or vape, or whatever your choice of substance is, the ethical thing to do is to disclose it. You don't have to say what it is, and you can easily state the dresses are washed and cleaned after each wear and you don't smoke/vape in the closet, or that you'll clean it again before sending it out, or whatever.

It's the same as people disclosing that they have pets. You're just watching out for that one or two girls who are indeed allergic to your substance. They know to ask you what it is if they need to, and even girls with pet allergies have been known to buy dresses from pet owners -- they just need a heads up so that they know they need to unbox your dress in an open area, with their meds nearby and ready, and they need to maybe clean it, lintroll it, air it out a few times, whatever it is that people do to cope with their allergies.

Sorry if this is a highkey ridiculous question, but are brand parasols typically waterproof/can hold a lot of rainfall? I'm looking for one since where I live its either awfully sunny or raining a lot, and someone is trying to sell me a Meta one, but I'm not sure if it will work for anything else other than shade and holding maybe a light amount of rain. The one they offered is similar to this one.

>> No.9577559

If it isn't something ancient from the dawn of lolita, it should be fine for rain.

afaik "parasol" refers to UV blocking, it doesn't imply less waterproofing. One of Japan's seasonal things is its rainy season in summer (aka hydrangea season). Around this time shops start putting out rainboots and raincoats (and burandos put out parasols) in summer. It doesn't make sense to do this without waterproofing the parasols as they're intended for the rainy weather in summer, so they're usually waterproof and UV blocking.

As for "hold a lot of rainfall", they aren't so fragile and delicate that they'll fall apart -- they're pretty much constructed liked a regular umbrella. I guess if your area particularly requires reinforced super steel brollies then maybe don't get a brand parasol. If you can get by with a regular cheapskate brolly from the dollar store, then brand parasol should work fine.

The only thing I can't vouch for is that it's always been this way, maybe at the dawn of lolita there was a time when the parasols were purely decorative or maybe there was a time when brand parasols sucked -- I really don't know. If your parasol is from sometime within the last 7 years at least then it should be fine though.

I'm a confused lurker.

Why is there "Lolita meetups"? Is it just to make friends? What do you do together?

I can understand meeting up organizing something that is of practical common interest like vidya where you can meet up and play together or movies where i you meet up and watch together. But do you meet up because the way you dress?

I can understand if you meetups and sew together or something but other than that it feels pretty weird to me.

>> No.9577835

It's pretty much the same as meeting up for vidya or movies. You come to meet people with a common interest: sometimes you meet lifelong friends, other times you meet awkward spergs with poor hygiene and shit taste. Pretty similar if you ask me.
I guess it could be hard to grasp that people enjoy pieces of cloth the same way others enjoy more emotionally engaging mediums like games, movies, tv shows, etc, but when you love a certain fashion enough (especially one that requires a lot of commitment i.e. lolita), collecting it can become a full on hobby, even lifestyle.

However, if you were thinking that discussing a street fashion can only take a conversation so far... you'd be right. Meetups can really be a mixed bag depending on the demographics of your local community.
