i met mr yan at a con 3 years ago - i was asking some questions on the fb page and he said he noticed i was in florida and asked if there was anything to do in miami - so i told him to come to supercon lmao

he was actually v nice and asked lots of questions about what lolitas wanted from bodyline. i wonder what happened and why the site is dying. does anyone have any info regarding the reason?

I got a lot of their florals & solids, even picked up the floral stripe l587 jsk in all colours not too long ago.Not worth
it to order with shipping anymore though, I can't justify that amount on soft pleather shoes.

Their dress up rose is my favorite, own the pink & dark pink in both jsk & skirt, versatile & going strong 4 years in. Its not fussy to coord & good with thick black tights & oxfords

Worst quality item I bought was headbands back in the day- awful helicopter bows. Best was a stunning blue jacquard floral piece i forget the name of, it was quite recent, too.

Often I've been putting in an older bodyline piece I wanted with my ss order-like that high waist wine x white floral skirt, & honestly I preferred their iw francoise copy as it doesn't have the brand name displayed prominently on the print as mine does. I'd like those in pink, maybe but they are a bit sweet for my tastes now. And the cameo op in black, that many brands had prints of. I saw a good coord a while ago & have a mighty lust.

I have no bodyline stories, orderd many times & everything always arrived in the end.

The only Bodyline things I own is one of their seifukus and their sailor dress, but they're decent quality and quite sturdy. The dress is perfect for just throwing on.
I'd like to get my hands on l087 in black size M because it'd be a perfect casual dress, but black is the one color they didn't restock. I've found a few secondhand listings but I'm not willing to pay a dime over $20 shipped for used Bodyline.
It's a shame it's dying, but I understand that it's not really needed anymore.

The taobao brands put up new shit like clockwork, whereas bodyline is known for a few main pieces and hardly offer new and relevant pieces. It's no wonder taobao brands are doing better since people keep buying when they release new stuff, whereas people buy a piece or two from bodyline and don't go back much.

Anon are you me? Same. Whenever I see auctions for bodyline dresses starting at $30-40 I wonder what the hell the seller is on.

Anyway I have pic related (not my pic) which is an older piece of theirs. I wish I had bought it in white instead because I think it's prettier and suits my current style more, but it was Baby's First Lolita Purchase and considering that, it's not bad. The print and overall quality are pretty nice.

I think it's the prices he was charging. He'd go from pricing things as too little for a sale that lasts 4 months, to pricing a new dress of meh quality at $120. His staffing is a mess, people just gradually grew sick of it since its become easier and easier over the years to buy from taobao/taobao resellers that don't require a shopping service.

Blogpost incoming because of the feels but man, that's where I bought my first outfit ever in 2010. I was 14, I would listen to Nana Kitade and Kanon Wakeshima while waiting for my order to arrive and my grandma made me my first petticoat. When it finally came i was so excited I shed a tear when looking at myself in the mirror. Sure, my coord was mediocre, but I was so happy. The dress,socks,headdress,... i choosed were decent though.
To this day I sold everything but the headdress. I only own brand main pieces but I still have it and use it sometimes.

Bodyline had this huge sale and free shipping, my parents liked some stuff and wanted to buy some for me. Few weeks later the first parcel arrived, the packaging was in great condition. I opened it to find the items in special bodyline packaging, again in great condition. Items fitted so yay.
A few days later the second one comes in, I had to pay €28 euros to customs, not bothered since I am used to it. Packaging is in great condition, same as the packaging from bodyline. Checks the items, discovered one shoe is missing it's heel. Searched trough the rest of the package but the heel is nowhere to be found.
Those bastard literally send me an item that was already damaged! So I did a paypal claim (after not getting a reply from bodyline), send photos of the not-damaged packaging and missing heel with it. Didn't get any kind of compensation, not even the repair costs!
Still ordered some other shoes later...

>wanted a free trip to Japan to be a "moderu"
>Have some shots done in my favorite bodyline dress with some AP accessories that match
>send them in
>get an email back saying they can't accept me for the contest since I used AP accessories
>almost all former contest winners submitted themselves wearing AP
>bitch to friend about it
>friend tells me "when an asian contest says they want a foreign model, they mean they want a blond or blue eyed white girl, you're black, and I can't think of one Japanese model who is black."

I'd say Bodyline is as good as dead especially for lolita, but also generally.

No new lolita specific releases anymore, barely any restocking of items (the restock of shoes this summer was a big surprise), highly outdated page navigation, weird pricing and shipping policy, awful customer service,...

Bodyline still might be convenient for a handful of items like shoes, but aside from that they lost their right to exist on the market. TaoBao/Indie brands are stronger than ever with a huge palette of much nicer designs for a mostly reasonable price-quality ratio, which are released regularly.

>mfw BL changed the 9/1 sale banner exatly one year after the last one in 2016

They just started the yearly Mr. Yan's Birthday sale with 50% off on different items, but also hiked up the prices massively a couple of days ago on certain items. Their poptart dress went from 6.66€ in spring this year to 53.99€(!!) a week ago to 26.99€ right now in the sale. Another thing that doesn't necessarily help with trusting them as a brand.

And then there's still the shipping issue....

I feel like more people would be interested in them as well if they were to make new photoshoots for their older collections.
Those Venus pictures are so dated and it's very hard to tell how an item looks just from a display picture.
They did good by adding that japanese? girl modeling a bunch of items but other items still have picture from 10 years ago. Not to mention the permanent price changed and the annoying way the website is constructed.
They'd probably be better off opening a taobao shop.

Also L596. It's not Fleur Antoinette, but it has a lot of potential if you want to customise it or use more expensive IW, 3f etc. type accessories with it.The fabric is surprisingly good and it's flatteringly fitted, if not hard to get on if you have broad shoulders. The skirt is really full so you can fit lots of poof under it but if you are over 5ft you're going to need underskirts.

Yes there is, many items are priced cheaper, while others are only slightly decreased (the pumpkin costume for example is now $14.99 when it was $19.99 just last week). The birthday sale has always been weird an arbirtrary, I can't think of a recent time when it was honestly a 50% off sale.

I'm so sad Bodyline seems to be dying out, because they were everything to me when they opened up international shipping. I remember how everyone jumped on the Fruits Parlor replica and the IW dog print replica. I remember everyone wearing bodyline blouses and shoes. I remember the tubgirl print people trolled bodyline with, or the sheer maid uniform they made in their design contests. I remember that black and red wa-lolita dress that ita lolitas always wanted.

I wonder if pandering to lolitas is what killed bodyline, because in the end, looking back, I loved their early simplistic designs so much more than the stuff they made post-international shop. A tiny part of me still wants the jsk they made out of that cake fabric so badly.

I used to have so many bodyline outfits, almost a whole wardrobe full, because I was a spoiled weeaboo who took advantage of the 50% off sales, back when bodyline was actually cheap. Now I sort of regret selling it off. I got rid of most of my bodyline when I became ~embarrassed of it, when I started affording brand. Sure the stuff I sold off wasn't exactly lolita, but I wish I had kept them now, if only for nostalgias sake and because some made for cute costumes.

I'm also very lucky in that I never had a bad experience ordering from bodyline. They never sent me a wrong item, or a dirty item, never scammed me. So I still look upon them fondly.

And yeah, everyone is right that Taobao is cheaper but

1. Bodyline is a lot simpler to order from than taobao
2. Bodyline was a hell of a lot faster than Taobao. There was a time when Bodyline was still partnered with DHL when stuff would get to you in under a week
3. Bodyline was like Walmart- everything you need in all one place. Need shoes? Order shoes. Need a maid costume for that convention next week? They got that too. Need wrist cuffs and blouses? Bodyline has it.

Honestly, if it weren't for Bodyline, I would have given up on lolita. Back in 2008, lolita was inaccessible, especially if you were young and had to rely on holiday/birthday money. All my options were when I was young was shitty ebay dresses, marginally less shitty but badly sized fanplusfriend dresses and buying off the commsales, which was hard if you had a parent wary of buying stuff second hand.

I had about a years worth of only buying bodyline, before I finally started investing in brand. I got to experiment with different styles (gothic, classic, sweet etc), and coordinates and find out what really looked good on me before investing in brand

I was young and stupid and wanted immediate satisfaction, if it wasn't for bodyline I probably would have lost interest in lolita and picked it up later, if at all.

The reason we bought that many was because we are both aiming to wear lolita every single day. For that, you need at least 28 dresses, so you don't have to repeat yourself every two weeks. I only had about half that in burando, so bodyline came to the rescue!

The pieces we received are great, especially if you know what to do with them. Remove some of the unnecessary cheap lace from the straps or add a line of lace at the bottom and the pieces go from a 6 to a 7 or 8.

We had no issues with the order whatsoever.

Does anyone think if they opened a Bodyline in maybe California or something, it could actually really take off? They need to go back to catering to not just lolita, but cheap cosplays, generic costumes like maid outfits and seifuku, alt fashion like goth/punk and things like that. Bring back more stable pricing, and I think it'd be great. I looked into Hot Topic the other day and they're so focused on nerd branding they don't touch gothic/punk/alt fashion very much anymore. You can ask any old person you know and they will tell you how young people nowadays throw thing away and buy new way too quickly. Thrift shopping and hand-me-downs were actually way more common back then. People are way more wary about second-hand stuft now.

>It isn't the general view. There are plenty of people who don't wear second hand clothes because they think it's gross and it's not just OCD people.

It's honestly wonderful quality compared to the usual bodyline pieces, and though I wouldn't say that it exactly holds up against brand I would say that it makes a valiant effort. It's a winter staple of mine and I adore it.

Also, to all anons looking for an old bodyline piece you regret not buying, there is a seller on ebay selling (overpriced) colorways of their stuff. They have things not in stock anymore so if you really wish you hadn't sold that skirt you bought as a newbie, it's worth looking around.

Synthrapol works best with hot water. I will usually do a little intensive spot treatment and then, if your item is machine safe, it's fine to chuck it in with the wash. If not, soaks and gentle agitation by hand are fine too. It can be a bit rough on the hand of the fabric, so it's often nice to follow with a gentle fabric softener. I usually use milsoft (another textile house find) or I'll use a lanolin based one for wools. Leave in ones are good too- get ones that are marketed for lingerie or hand knitted items (sans lanolin if it's cotton). Soak is really nice and has a variety of nice scents. Kookaburra and Eucalan are all very good too.

Why so salty?
It's a fact that BL has used some terrible scratchy itchy cheap lace.
Yes, their blouses with torchon lace (like those full & waist shirred old school btssb replica's) are quite nice (owned them myself at some point) but honestly they are the exception.
It's a shame they sometimes use itchy cheap lace on an otherwise very nicely constructed cotton blouses.
It brings the quality down.
I have tried many different brands and even taobao/indy brands and BL was the only one I tried that had really bad lace.

Not salty. Everything I bought from them has been an exception then. You just have to research before buying, be it brand or bodyline. There are even brand dresses with raschel lace and tulle lace like >>9634513 is the ugliest shit for me. I only buy brand with my preferred lace/fabric choices and same goes for bodyline. Yes in fact Bodyline's solid torchon lace dresses are superior to AP's new tulle lace chiffon stuff for me so I don't see point arguing with "hurr if someone likes some bodyline better than some burando they must be poor/have shit taste"

>>9634529 anon is right. >>9634513 sounds terribly ignorant.

Nayrt but I have exact opposite experience sadly. I was seriously disappointed when I got my first brand. Not because quality issues but it was nothing special like seagulls are talking about. I have a medium-big wardrobe with about 100 main pieces now and still some of my favourite and most worn pieces are Bodyline.

No offense, but most bodyline lace truly is shit. I've owned most of their popular prints (Love Jewelry, Squirrel Party, Bunny Cinderella) as well as some solid color jsks and the lace has all been horribly shiny and scratchy. The rest of the dress is usually alright for the price, but the lace is truly terrible. Even my taobao stuff always has better lace.

Ive never ordered a blouse from bodyline that ive liked

i have the ouji l584 set in wine which is very cute, and another all black OP that is surprisingly sturdy feeling and good quality minus the lace on the sleeves.

The only remotely sweet piece i own is their carousel jsk and I absolutetly adore it.

hey I have the same jsk in the white colorway.
I'd be willing to sell it, but it's in bad condition. The biggest problem is that the zipper fell off, but I would replace that before I sent it out. There are also some loose threads/frayed lace trim and the fabric under the lace is stained due to the way it was washed previously. It's not visible unless you life the lace, though. Would you still be interested?

Seconding, unless they use cotton lace (i own an old blouse from them with some,it's completely decent, and the blouse material isn't costume like,i was pleasantly surprised) their lace is almost always scratchy and awful. I got a red patch on my skin from the lace on one of their cutsews.

Maybe like $30? I'd like to have the zipper replaced before I send it out, not sure how much that would cost but I'm reckoning about $10 at the tailor's down the road, so that's included in the price. If you're handy with a sewing machine, though, and would want to do it yourself, I can reduce it to $20.
