Hey all, I found a dress on Mercari and I'm almost certain it's Pretty, pre-"Angelic". I'm not really familiar with anything they released before they became "Angelic Pretty" and Lolibrary is endlessly loading for me so I can't search for anything on there. I'm probably not going to buy it but if any sharp-eyed oldschoolers thing this might be bonafide Pretty, here's the link:
https://item.mercari.com/jp/m88373546490/

I also don't really know how mercari works I was just browsing through, so idk if it's normal to just have one picture for an item or not.

A lot of the handmade stuff Nana Kitade (I think that's her? I'm really bad at telling Nana and Moon Kana apart) made or modelled in the early G&LBs was more like her conceptual stage costumes than lolita, this is actually one of the most tasteful ones and isn't that short by oldschool standards. Here's an example of some of the handmade she did that I wouldn't class as lolita.

I'd love translations, anon! I'm way less interested in the handmade sections than I am in translations of the lifestyle content though. How about this spread on essential gothic brands? I always thought it was funny how they gave instructional transformations, and I like how it (slightly) goes against the idea that Japanese lolitas had literally no idea about what Western goth was really about.

If that's a bit long and dry for you to want to translate, there are some pretty funny sections on lolifying your room I could dig up.

>> No.9627504

Make sure you have the right dye, whether it's cotton or polyester. Check the thread used to sew the dress, it could be a cotton dress and still have polyester thread used to sew it. If it has polyester and cotton I'm not sure what you can do. I've used spray dyes to try and redye fading black green lace with some success, but never an entire garment.

Check all the decorations, scrutinize everything. I would pre soak the garment in water before dunking it into the dye so that it distributes more evenly. Watch a few tutorials before beginning, make sure you have a good space to work in, get a pot from salvation army or value village and do it outside. Try it on something you don't care about first and see how the results are. Good luck.

>> No.9627514

>>9627497
The basic rit dye is very weak. You would need two to three bottles and let a basic dress soak for a long time before rinsing. If the item is synthetic rit dyemore is decent but you need just as much dye for a dress.

>> No.9627629

>>9627497
If it's primarily cotton, get professional fiber reactive dyes. Union dyes like Rit aren't particularly light, wash or color fast. It's not terribly hard to mix and use fiber reactive dyes. I wouldn't be tooooo worried about the polyester thread >>9627504 mentions-- you're just redyeing the dress black, not changing the color, right? So your thread should already be black. You need a jar of black, calsolene oil and soda ash. There's loads of tutorials out there but, it's pretty much boils down to hot water in a tub plus your fabric, dye, oil and soda ash. Easy peasy.

what type of posts are acceptable to post in that group?

I'd really like to make posts like these but I feel so awkward and shy because the old school group seems very tight knit... I've been collecting old items and I'm very proud of my collection and I really want to share that happiness with everyone there!... Am I stupid to worry this much?

If you're in that photo then it's pretty safe to say: holy shit, learn to put make up on better and invest in a good quality (see not pumpkin coloured) wig.

You guys look absolutely god awful. If you guys genuinely cared for each other at all you would have told each other to adjust your hair and face before going outside looking like a convention for Uncle Fester look-alikes.

Going for a "grumpy" look has nothing to go with how bad you guys look.

Leftmost chick, either invest in a hairbrush or a wig and those bangs are just making her face look more square and ogre like. Maybe some makeup can help with that very square and mannish face. The bangs and headress just make it look like her head is too small for her body.

Second from the left: too old? Man? Seriously looks like a creepy ageplayer. Granny's makeup not helping.

Girl in red: good coord but for the love of god, make up. She looks like a blobfish. Also, if you were trying to look grumpy, why did she decide to go for Down syndrome twitch?

Rightmost: again, please learn to apply make up properly, and an orange wig on her skin tone is just not working. Also, grumpy =\= constipated. What is with her face.

In this day and age of makeup and hair tutorials galore, there is absolutely no reason for you guys to look that bad.

Why would you spend so much time on your coords if you couldn't even bother with your faces?

Damn this shit is embarrassing for us.

Nayrt but you realise lolita is clothing and not a costume and you don't have to be plastered in perfect, flawless cosplay tier makeup, and that it's clothes that regular people wear, right? have you even looked in a jfashion magazine and seen all the girls with mussed, wind-swept hair and imperfect makeup because they are regular humans? have you looked at street snaps before which they are clearly taking inspiration from?

I'm all for critiquing lolita but jfc armchair lolitas complaining that lolitas look like regular people instead of photoshopped-to-hell models like risa and misako all the time is fucking stupid.

Stop being a weeb for a second and understand that most normal people take at least a look in the mirror before going out.

If you think running a brush through your hair and covering up under eye circles is cosplay level make up... I don't know what to tell you.

If you look bad in regular clothes, attaching yourself to a niche fashion isn't going to magically make you not look unkempt and fuggly.

Because it's weebs that seem to really struggle with taking care of themselves when it comes to even the most basic grooming.

Running a brush through your hair, opting for a more flattering wig, or just using the most absolutely minimal make up to look somewhat put together shouldn't be high standards.

These aren't jeans and a t shirt. Why put on a well coorded outfit then ignore your face? Your face and hair are part of your coord. Ignore those and it reflects on your coord. If your face doesn't look presentable, your coord is not well put together.

Does anyone know how old this JSK is? I've never seen this tag before!

I looked through all of the pages on Lolibrary, under the search conditions of 'Innocent World JSK Black' and couldn't find an image of it. It may be this one though, as it fits the description, meaning that the dress should be from 2001 https://lolibrary.org/items/iw-high-waist-switching-jsk-0

While I'm afraid of owning velvet, this is one of the only dresses I'd make an exception.

Didn't check if it's still avilable but atleast in the morning WW Lacemarket account had Pretty/AP op up. The tag has the bold, simple lettering: not sure if which one it is though. Not my style but I wish old school gull gets it and gives it some well deserved love.

I actually have that gobelin OP! It's from 2000 and was in a street snap in one of the first GLBs
