It's used for polymer clay, and I actually got mine in a clay tool kit from Aliexpress. They're called "wire brushes" or "Wire pokers" and they're cheaper online. You can probably find some at your local craft store

How much do Lolita events generally charge to table as a vendor?

I'm the anon who tried to put circle lens in resin, I was too scared to fuck up my molds so I put my lens dry in the resin, hoping the resin will have the same effect as water on the lens, needless to say, the lens where still crooked I think I will make some kind of mold of my lens lined with tissus paper to absorb the water and let it keep it's shape. Someone askek me if it was for dolls eyes, but i's just to keep a sample of them ( I read on the web that someone also did this but they didn't post pics ) I also want to do gurokawa style jewelery with them but I'm still experimenting .

I also have a few questions : a friend of mine is going to japan and she is okay to bring me some uv resin but I don't know if it is this common in art stores ( I search the padico or kiyohara brand ). I also don't know if it's legal to bring back some in your suitcase, I don't want her to get in trouble because of me.

Also it's really specific but if there is french anons here, what is the best brand of epoxy resin in store ( I tried the cléopatre brand, and the curing time and resting time is a pain in the butt ), I even saw a uv resin in big rectangular blue can but the store who sell it closed and I can't find it even on the web .

Got one of the items I ordered from wish! I think this was the most expensive "single" thing I purchased. I was expecting them to be a bit bigger but if anything I love the size of these bottles so I can find a use for them after they're empty. They're glass, one of them got cracked in postage but not enough for the glitter to come out. Lots of different colours and shapes so 10/10 would glitter again

you need thick and thin UV resin, as you'll need to mix it so that it's thick, but will still drip. If you make sure the resins are from the same brand, it should be fine.
remember any glitter, pigment or stuff you put in it will also affect the viscosity, so play around a bit. Good luck!

I said I'd post here when I had compared the different clays I've been getting, so for anyone interested, here we go:

Nice finish colour, it's something between cookie and untreated, medium colour wood. It may comb when dries and apparently doesn't do well when exposed to humidity.

Your standard air dry clay. Very soft touch and easy to work with. I used padico mold oil on my mold and it got a bit too shiny. Got the cookie coloured one.

I would say it's basically a white Mermaid Puffy. I tried both colouring it with Tamiya Clay Chroma in cookie colour and leaving it white then painting it with the Tamiya decoration powder and I liked the second one better, although I must say I added too much Clay Chroma.

I don't know if I was doing it wrong, but I found it extremely hard to work with even putting it back in water several times. It wouldn't get all the details from the mold.

This one is my absolute favourite. It's certainly not easy to work with, as it is kind of wet and gets very sticky. It's also difficult to use in a mold as it will move when you're placing your clay or removing the excess. However, the result is great! I used a small amount of Tamiya D-7 for a strawberry bit piece and a bigger amount of Tamiya D-12 for a chess piece and loved how shiny and smooth they look. The pieces are flexible and resistant, and as long as you use a translucent dye, you will also keep a translucent effect in the piece (as I got in the strawberry) but it will go opaque if the tint is not translucent. Keep in mind it will shrink a bit when drying.

I still have some brown Modena clay that I haven't used yet and want to try soon!

I've recently bought some uv resin and I'd like to try turning some stickers which were too big or not suited for being placed in molds into brooches. Does anyone have a tutorial or a write up on how to go about it? Is it just as simple as doming the top and then the sticky side once that's cured?

So I'm about to try making resin charms for the first time with a kit I bought off sophie and toffee. Problem is the kit only included 2 dyes, I don't want to wait another month for dyes to ship so I was wondering of other ways to dye your resin? I heard some people using paint and others saying it's bad, and as a beginner I don't know who to believe. What's the best way to dye resin?

So we have many beautiful maple trees in our yard and I want to preserve some of the leaves in resin. Do I need to prep/coat the leaves before embedding them in epoxy? The only time I'm embedded a natural object was a dried flower.

It's a lot easier with expoxy since the sticker will curl up while th UV resin is curing. You have to seal the sticker with modge podge if it's paper otherwise the resin will make the image a lot darker/transparent as if it got soaked in water.

You're going to want to dry them out. Otherwise you risk them molding from the trapped moisture. They're leaves so you could easily just press them to dry.

You're welcome anon! Just be sure that the UV nailpolish sets at the same rate as the resin, unless you have a lamp you can keep it under for a few hours to make sure it's all cured. Regular nailpolish can be used on top of a cured piece to paint it, but shouldn't be mixed with UV resin. I haven't tried with regular air dry resin, but that might theoretically work.

If I'm casting little 3d spiders into gem molds, then give them colored backgrounds, do I need to do 3 layers or just 2? Like
1. a thin clear layer
2. another clear layer and put the spider on. Wait until it's tacky and ad glitter
3. Colored layer

1. Thick clear layer, wait until the resin is thick and the spider will stay where I put it and add spider and glitter.

Nah, the kind of plastic usually used in chocolate moulds is usually trouble. Use silicone molds for best results.

Thin sections of epoxy can pose a problem if not enough heat is generated during curing. You can use a heat gun over the resin while it's curing or keeping both bottles in hot water baths before mixing and pouring to avoid uncured thin patches

Eh I tried to fill some syringes with fake blood but it ended up looking too dark, to the point where it was hard to tell it was supposed to look like blood. I did successfully water down some fake blood though and it hasn't separated yet, and it's been sitting in the jar for about a month now. Ok so I got that cheap UV resin from China but it’s staying sticky/tacky after curing, no matter how many times I run it through my nail lamp. It’s hard, but it’s got a stickiness akin to gel nails before they’re wiped with alcohol. I’ve tried it in a few different molds and domed on objects so it doesn’t seem to be reacting to anything particular. Am I missing a major step here or is it a bad batch?

This could be due to how long you are leaving it, as in leaving it in for a few hours instead of putting it in 5 times but only for like 10 mins each time and then taking it out.
It could be your lamp isn't the right kind, the power could be low or the UV range could be off, like how not all gel will cure under different types of lamps. Ask the manufacturer if there's a specific lamp they reccomend.
It could be the type of resin you're using. I had padico soft and gummy resin and no matter how long I tried to cure it in the lamp, hours and hours it was still tacky, so I just had to cleanse the sticky layer off with alcohol. It took a fair bit of work but it did eventually stop being sticky.
Or it could be a bad batch. I prefer buying through Miniature Sweet and Sophie and Toffee coz they actually test their products before selling them, so they might be re-sellers, but they also serve as quality control.
Also you need to use clear silicone moulds, opaque moulds interfere with the curing process. You can still use them for small, shallow moulds, but it's trickier and a lot more steps for a nice finish.

It’s the cheap Taobao/Ali/Wish/EBay generic resin so trying to find and contact manufacturer is probably pointless. I have tried wiping with alcohol and it ruined the piece, like literally frosted the whole surface over with just rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball. I guess I’ll try leaving it in the light for a full hour, but from most tutorials I’ve seen using the same product it seems to only usually seems to take minutes. And yes like I’ve saod I tried with several molds, clear ones, and doming it on tip of things like stickers so I don’t think opaqueness is an issue.

You shouldn't be using a cotton ball, you need to be using a lint-free wipe. They sell them with make up removers or you could buy alcohol wipes, or get the serious wipes from the cleaning section in your local grocery store.
Also, in my experience with resin, it gets hard and cures in a few mins depending on the depth and make up of the resin, but every time I've left them in the lamp for a few hours I get a glass like finish that I do not get after 10~ mins. Like extra hard and shiny, so I will always advocate for that if you're going for a shiny finish.
Important note, are you using just clear resin? If you're colouring your resin it could be that you're using the wrong stuff or too much of the right stuff and that's ruining the resin's ability to cure.

I have a similar problem except my uv resin is from sophie and toffee. The first layer which had dye and some glitter in it cured perfectly, and so did the 2nd layer which only had glitter in it. But the 3rd and then the 4th doming layer which has nothing, is taking so long to cure.

I have a uv light which I have held up to the 3rd layer uv resin for at least an hour, and it took it standing in the sun for several hours to completely cure. Now I domed and I'm scared it won't cure in time for tomorrow (I'm giving it as a gift to someone tomorrow), and I'm not sure how to tell it's completely cured without ruining it by marks by touching it when it's tacky. Ok so original anon here, the best method I’ve got going right now is to bake it 30 minutes or so in lamp (the lamp starts to get hot at that point, it’s not really meant for continuous use) and then set it in my front window for a day. Am I the only one who gets pissed at resin artists stealing drawings from other people, even big productions like movies or games, and selling them in their work without actually changing the image?

I've seen people take images from big things like Totoro or Kuromi, but even little indie games people have taken images directly from the game and stuck it in resin, to sell.
I feel like if you're gonna be making money off it, you should make it yourself, like draw the Totoro yourself or something, rather than ripping it directly from the original artists.

Am I in the minority here or is it just the lazy *cough*thief*cough* artists are more prominent because of fandom followings and not having to draw the things themselves makes doing stuff quicker?

I'm still not really bothered if they take official art from a big franchise, they obviously wouldn't try to pass it off as their own work and a big studio/publisher wouldn't be affected. It'd be more of an issue if they take something from an indie artist without asking them for autorisation.

You also can't expect all people who do resin to also draw. It's not about being lazy, some people just don't draw at all and they might still want to have cute pictures in their resin, so they have to get from someone else (hopefully in a legal and respectful way).

I guess because I came to resin from a drawing background, I hadn't thought about resin artists not wanting to/being able to draw. I don't think they should just miss out, but maybe they should reach out and try to collab with someone who does draw?

I am guessing there would be some that do reach out for permission from artists to use their drawings, but that's certainly not the majority. As far as I can see, the idea that "any art posted online is free to use and if you don't want it stolen then don't post it" is still very common.

Me too anon, me too. Licensed stickers are OK for me (i dont use them but i dont look down on others doing it). But printing out stuff from the internet is just gross. I also come from doing art as well so sometimes I feel hyper paranoid about stealing others work. I'll draw the most basic shit to use in my resin instead of getting the imagine online. I’m planning to make a resin sticker case and I’m a little confused about my stickers, I know that for putting them IN pieces they need to be sealed but for making a case can I just pour the resin over? I own a sticker case and I’m examining it but it doesn’t look like they’re sealed.

For reference I’m using the strawberry korilakkuma series. They don’t feel like paper stickers but it doesn’t say anywhere on the packaging.

What silicone do you guys think is best for mold making? I've been wanting to make a custom magatama mold for a long ass time and I finally picked up some polymer today. Google only really showed me mold putties, and from what I saw it looks like those aren't the best for resin.

I meant it's more yellow then my extra clear epoxy so if I want to glue something or fill something with the quiao quiao, you can see a little difference between the 2 type of resin and it bug me a little, but honesty it's not that big, especially if you use only this resin. They're going to be bigger than you think and use a LOT of silicone. 241,244 and 242 are the easiest to use. If you have some cheap frosting practice with it first cause they can get jammed and not form properly.

Ah well i don't know the correct term for it, but if you look up "nail shine buffer" it's essentially that. Normally it's on one of those multi-sided nail files, and you rub it on the top of your nail to make it shiny, and that green sheet seems to be doing the same thing, so I would assume the nail buffer would work for resin as well.

snap-clip anon here again! In case anyone is wondering, I have found a somewhat sturdy way of sticking resin to them, but it's not as neat as using a proper clip made for this, so I wouldn't recommend it for selling, only personal use.

I've found that if you embed the top of the clip into the resin, or cover it with resin so that it bonds around and also inbetween the metal bits, it will hold. after snapping it a couple times it will look like its coming out as the metal will come away slightly from the resin, but I had to pull with pliers really hard to get it to wiggle out even a bit.
Am now experimenting with using soft resin to see if the flexibility will ensure a better hold between the resin and metal.

Again, I'm absolutely not recommending this for commercial purposes, and I'm just doing it for fun now.

Am I the only one who has trouble getting a clean casts from crystal molds? I have a couple of those different shaped pointed crystal molds, and every damn time I use them at least one side peels away from the silicone while curing and creates this rough wrinkled surface, so then I have to sand and glaze then and then the facets aren't as sharp and pretty.
I'm using UV resin, is this why? I heard it shrinks a little, but wouldn't epoxy shrink as well?

I use UV resin and I have never had this issue. Are you just not letting your pieces cure properly? I always cure my resin on both sides of the mold. Obviously start with the open side first, then flip the mold after that side is dry and do the other. No more peeling issues.

I did some eeveelution pieces as gifts one year, however I did it with fimo and glazed it - at first it was fine but then the water started to turn strange and...like it had a white web in it? I watched a youtube video later of someone else trying something similar and they had the same problem, she found that it was the glaze doing it so I recommend avoiding that just in case anyone was thinking about it.

The best way to figure these things out is to try. people do shaker charms which often have baby oil and water and those seem to turn out fine.
