It's actually quite common on some of the older, longer dresses. It's usually the not-sweet brands that favored the tea-length dresses, so most of them had a lot less poof than the knee-length dresses to begin with. They generally looked much better if you didn't overstuff them, so they generally looked all right without a petticoat most of the time.

The knee-length dresses, on the other hand, generally looked like ass. Doesn't seem to matter if it was a classic dress from Mary Magdalene (which actually requires more poof, because they really liked doing pintucks and ruffles, all of which collapses into a heavy frumpy mess if you don't use a petti to fully fill out the skirt), or a sweet brand like AP, which generally puts more fabric into their skirt width precisely so you can look cuter being a giant poofy fluff, but of course you end up looking like a sad wilted lettuce of fabric if the skirt didn't at least have a built-in petti under it.

tl;dr, depends on the dress. Some of them look good without a petti.. Others look like shit.

Warning: I made this image for personal reference and then realized it might be useful. So yeah, it's ugly.

So I'm shopping for underskirts and after making this I thought it could act as a simple template for others trying to figure out how to lengthen the look of their dress. Basically it's as the text says; try to take a clear enough picture of yourself so the measuring tape is readable, then mark as needed (obviously I went with inches) and then mark again based on the measurements of the underskirt. And ta-da; you have a personal visual aid for deciding on which length option to go for. To say the least, I thought I would have needed the longer length, but then realized the shorter version will do the job better.

For reference, I am wearing a classical puppets cupcake petticoat that they sell at their standard 18" length. They have a longer size but it's a little "too classic" for a dress like this at 23" long. Also Candy Sparkle JSK with lace trim is 21 1/2" inches (55 cm) from the waist band to the hem. The trim is 2 inches, or 4 1/2 cm.

>>Do you regret your nose job?

Not at all. Sometimes I wonder if I would have grown to like my old nose, as I got more mature.
It was not broken, just a small bump

>>Approximate cost?
I can't remember. But it had to include the job costs, the hospital bed and anesthesiologist.
It might vary country to country, and it was a long time ago.

>>Was it difficult to decide on a surgeon, did you spend a lot of time seeing multiple appointments before choosing your surgeon?

It was a known surgeon that friends and family know.

>Any replies are seriously appreciated

I think is ok as long as the change is small, and fits the proportion of your face. I like to think it is an improvement on yourself. But seriously, I would go to a psychologist first to be sure your selfesteem issues come from something else.

But in general, even though it helped my self-esteem, it would not solve everything. Sometimes I would keep hating my nose and finding any angle to hate it, no matter what. Growing up and learning about my angles and feeling loved for others things than physical appearance have helped a lot.
I also used to go to therapy. That helped a lot.

>Do you regret your nose job?
No, in fact I regret not getting it sooner. I always hated my nose and now that it's not ugly as sin I feel way more confident and actually look pretty.

>Approximate cost?
I went to a super good surgeon and after my insurance covered a part of it, it cost me around $4500. If your nose is broken they might cover the whole procedure.

>Was it difficult to decide on a surgeon, did you spend a lot of time seeing multiple appointments before choosing your surgeon?

I saw only one surgeon that did both of my sisters' noses. I'd recommend shopping around and asking anyone you know that's had a nose job. There is definitely a difference between how good a surgeon's work is, their cost, and the healing process.

You shouldn't feel stupid or vain for wanting a nose job. It's an extremely common procedure, and if you don't like something about yourself you should change it.

sigh...i'm a fucking idiot.

a week or so later i finally image searched on taobao and confirmed that it was indeed a replica, selling for like $12. i paid $60.

I'm accepting my fate and biting the bullet on this one because it was my own damn stupidity, and the seller didn't technically lead me to believe it was the genuine article at all. i'm just kind of unsure what i should leave for feedback though at this point once i receive the dress and the process is finally over. what would you gulls do?

It would likely just make the dress tighter and the blouse fabric bunch up underneath, it might work it you pull the blouse down under your dress and tuck it into your petticoat before tightening the dress, but that depends on what areas of the blouse are too loose. If it’s really bad it might be worth just sewing darts into the back of the blouse for a more tailored look if you’re open to alterations. It’s hard to think of a solution without knowing what blouse and dress it is, as well as what parts of the blouse are too big for you.

Pic related. If someone's eating healthy and losing weight that's great, but it still doesn't mean that niche Japanese fashion brands owe it to them to make clothes in their size. I'm also loving the girl who had a mod explain to her why expanding sizing would result in higher costs, and completely misinterpreted what these extra costs would be (someone told her that Melty Berry Princess goes for $600 on the secondhand market and she took this as evidence that AP was trying to rip off fat people), then later on in the thread is going “Ohhhh you don’t wanna meet this girl I talked to!!” and painting her as being super unreasonable because she’s skinny. This gets me too. Yes, if you're seriously overweight some of your organs will enlarge and become coated in adipose tissue and your skeleton will warp. This is a result of being overweight. You don't get to subtract those factors from your weight or BMI, and you definitely don’t get to claim you’re in perfect health at the same time. They’re direct evidence to the contrary!

It reminds me of my extended family, many of whom are obese and have obesity-related health issues like diabetes type II, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, sleep apnea, hormonal issues and even colon cancer. All of them will point at these factors as the CAUSE of their obesity even though they only started seeing symptoms many years after crossing the obesity threshold, which strongly suggests they’re more likely to be EFFECTS of obesity. And even then, whenever someone, even a doctor, suggests they try to lose weight, they insist that they don’t need to because they’re perfectly healthy. Critical thinking went out the window a long time ago.

Personally I do have skeletal-related fit issues with certain brands and pieces. I have wide shoulders and long arms which makes most OPs fit really awkwardly on me, and wide hips which means brand shorts are out of the question. However when I try to bring this up in a conversation about fit issues I get shut down because I’m skinny and "lucky". Why though? They can lose weight, I can’t shorten my humerus.

Okay, stupid question but I vaguely remember there being talk of a store that sold brand somewhere in chicago (like Tokyo rebel). I'm stuck here today and was hoping to shop to kill the boredom. If you are looking to get into classic, you could try Innocent World. Oddment packs are basically capsule wardrobes although they probably require a few more accessories and don't come out regularly.
I think you are looking for "happy packs" which have their contents revealed and are generally meant to go together. IW has put out a few of them before, and Meta's skirt happy packs have been getting more and more cohesive than in the past. Meta also puts out a New Years print happy pack but it's not always classic.

>> No.9694045

>>9693653
>wear a petticoat
Not a tutu or a short costumey piece of garbage, an actual petticoat, preferably made of layers of chiffon or organza as tulle deflates and becomes useless quickly. It should be about 2" shorter than your skirt and its shape must match what you're wearing (A-line vs. cupcake).
>cover your shoulders
If you can't wear a blouse under your JSK, wear a bolero or cardigan on top instead, just please don't go out with your shoulders bare. The only exceptions imo is when the weather is too warm, or if it actually looks good, though the latter point is debatable, most JSKs look like shit worn without a blouse.
>more or less knee length dresses
This applies more to too-short dresses: If you can't bend over safely in your dress, it's probably too short. Most common length for dresses is about knee length, a bit above or below the knee is the safe too depending on what you personally find comfortable.
>wear bloomers
Bloomers themselves aren't mandatory per se, some people hate them so it's fine to wear shorts instead, but please wear something to cover your underwear, it's too easy to accidentally flash people whether it's windy or not.
>cover your legs
Bare legs look stupid in lolita, please don't do it. Sheer pantyhose aren't a thing either, especially if your name is Frances. Ankle socks are fine for summer, knee socks are okay if they actually look good on you because they make most people look stumpy; OTKs are popular, as are tights. They can be printed, patterned, or plain with lace at or scallops the top, just don't wear completely plain socks, they make you look like you cheapened out on your coord.
>wear something in your hair
Even a tiny hair clip is better than nothing at all. Try to actually style your hair before you slap something on, and pick a hair accessory that flatters you.

Also,
>wear high quality pieces
If it's made with cheap materials, it's usually obvious. You could be ticking all the above and still look like garbage if you're wearing cheaply made shit from whatever Chinese seller you bought from on eBay or Milanoo.
>groom yourself
Should be obvious but apparently isn't: style your hair*, fix your nails, iron/steam your dresses, clean your shoes, use sock glue if your socks don't stay up. Looking unkempt in an expensive, fancy fashion is embarrassing to you on a personal level and to the group you're with if you're at a meetup.
*A note about hair: You can wear a wig if you want/need to, as long as it's high quality; don't settle for any old cosplay wig, and don't just plop it on your head without styling it. If it doesn't look like natural hair, you shouldn't wear it. This is something that an obscene amount of girls fail at so I feel it's important to say.

>pack that's a somewhat-wearable coord straight out of the pack
>classic lolita

If you have no issues about secondhand/someone else coording for you: Lolita Desu lucky pack (secondhand items)
- very few of the classic brands do an actual coordinated lucky pack. Lolita Desu will accept requests where you tell them what you like and they’ll send you a “blind” bag of secondhand stuff, so if you request a full coord, they’ll do their best to put together one. Of course, don’t expect a full outfit for $10 or something, and keep in mind you’re basically trusting some random person to coord the outfit for you, so ymmv, and keep your communication and expectations clear.

If it must be new and must be a matching outfit : Meta, AatP
- Your best bet is to watch Metamorphose and Alice and the Pirates for their special sets. Both brands kind of swing between sweet and …..whatever style they want. Sometimes they do swing towards something that looks classic-ish. Be aware that AatP didn’t include blouses in their last LP, so you might have to get your own blouse on top of shoes, bag, etc, while Meta sometimes includes collars with Dumbo’s ears-level Peter Pan collars.

If it must be Innocent World:
- Their LPs are generally whatever doesn’t sell in the sales, so it’s even odds whether it matches or not. The staff do generally make some kind of effort at matching, eg - you’re likely to get an LP that’s all black and white, or all warm colours, etc, but it’s still all sales leftovers, so it’s not always a coherent outfit. The oddments pack never matches. It’s a nice capsule wardrobe about the size of a small refrigerator, but usually looks like it was frankensteined together from ten other wardrobes’ leftovers. In theory you should be able to find at least one decent outfit from all that stuff, though, and sell off the other stuff, so it’s not too bad if you can cough up the $300 or $500 or $800 + shipping they generally cost.

I've only ever bought lucky packs where there's no surprise element. I always thought it would be fun to do the big IW ones purely to then sell them onto Lolitas in my native country who can't afford stuff at full price + the shipping from Japan, like some sort of lolita santa clause. But the truth is that's too much effort for me to list and sell stuff.

From what I've seen of Lolita Desu luck packs, they're worth it if all you are intrested in is a theme, a size or a brand. Meaning; you love one brand so much that you just want stuff from them, but don't have specific pieces in mind. Or you really need more chocolate-themed items. Or you just want pieces that fit you out of the box and want to make it someone else's job to measure and browse through stuff.

I once saw a haul where the girl said to Lolita desu that she wanted any causal clothing or accessories that thematically matched this one AP print (in a mint / pastel colorway) and it looked like Lolita Desu did their homework and made sure it all matched even though the brands of items ranged from AP to chocomint.

You can request the lucky pack theme? I thought it was set themes.

If there's a clear theme that you want like chocolate, strawberries, crowns, crosses, etc., they can do it.

Anons who participated in GLISH last year, did you enjoy it?
Did any gulls sign up alone?

Did your teams video chat or just message one another? Did you make long-term friends?

I feel like it could be a fun way to make long distance friends and get more involved, but it could also be horribly awkward and weird.

Serious question, how do you fit into Japanese brands? I have a 92 cm bust and I feel like I'm just at the edge of being too big for most brands. Do your clothes fit? Are you comfortable in them?

can anyone ID the op in this Kawaii.i entry?

I have a 93cm bust, but it's mostly ribcage (i'm a small b) and I fit in a lot of things. I guess it depends. I think most of the things I own have at least a bit of shirring in the back, but I don't overstretch it. Most of my blouses are Baby and I fit in them pretty well. it's not form-fitting tight but if I was to gain 20 lbs or so I wouldn't be able to breathe and would no longer 'fit' in them. Also, Baby made a lot of full shirring blouses (old school is my thing, so most of my experience is there), so as long as You're not fat, you should be okay. I'm just tall with a wide skeleton. It's a bit awkward, but I can wear a lot of oldschool dresses and blouses and skirts with no issues other than length. Most of my brand is meta or baby though. I guess you'd have to be careful with arms too. My arms fit fine in my blouses, but if you have fat/muscular arms that might not work either.

no worries! my clothes fit pretty comfortably. I wear a minimizing bra with certain main pieces I own for a better silho, but other than that I've spent a lot of time hunting down brand that flatters me. I'm limited, and there are a few dreams I'll likely never fit (looking at you guilty meltin' sweets town, and 90% of Millefleurs), but I've done a pretty slamming job at building a legit plus size wardrobe that will fit me nicely even if I lose weight (broad shoulders, tall, and busty...I'll be a thwomp at any weight). it just takes abnormal time and dedication.

I'm guessing your classic? classic is the toughest for me to find brand for. VM, Physical Drop, Chantilly, and MAM occasionally deliver though!
I love old school, classic, and gothic, but there's just way more sweet that fits me. I'm resigned to the fact that I'll never have a themed wardrobe, just things I like that also fit. I like the fashion a lot though so I don't mind.

If you ever have trouble with the way your bust looks in main pieces, definitely incorporate more cute cardigans, aprons, jackets, and bustiers in your coords.

I have about the same (~90cm) and I don't really have a problem fitting into stuff, but it's probably because my ribcage is small so it's more soft tissue than bones. I even have unshirred brand stuff.

I have a fairly small ribcage, but with DDs and wide shoulders. Brand OPs without shirring are basically out of the question and anything with sleeves (including blouses) I'm rolling the dice.

But as >>9694581 correctly guessed, I'm into classic, and shirring in modern/non-old school classic is much less common than sweet. What VM pieces have you found? I occassional find their skirts in my size but it seems like most of their JSKs/OPs are 88 cm and under.
