I thought the contest was about unique personal style, not a style that already exist (like Lolita, Gyaru etc.). But on the other side, there are barely any people wearing unique Harajuku style outside of Japan, so I'm not surprised by the entries.

And Kawaii.i got quite unpopular considering the small number of entries

The entire contest is rigged, and is a complete joke. They only pick winners based on their social media following, so if you're not e-famoose, you won't win. They also don't care about whether or not you have actual knowledge of Japanese fashion, just look at Kelly Eden.

Honestly after they hired a trashy bimbo like Kelly that can't even respect and understand Japanese return policies, I wouldn't be surprised if Jillian was the next. The whole thing is a pissing contest of attention whoring lolcows that don't know shit about jfashion or anything 'kawaii'. At least Jillian has an interest in studying fashion, even if her skills and taste are both shit, she's still leagues above Kelly because she sort of tries. I actually can't stand Jillian, my point was that if Kelly got in anyone can, I wouldn't be surprised if Jillian did but her fashion isn't good enough to deserve it. Party Kei is just whatever amalgamation of overpriced dollskill tier clothes and cheap pastel junk Jillian dragged out of claires and forever 21. People that do more than just haul stuff and chase efame. Things like organising meets and events for example. Even just people that give back to the community by translating and making things more accessible for others. People that post guides,tutorials and coordinate ideas that are interesting and informative contribute to the community in some fashion also.

The online jfashion community is filled with girls who do nothing but consume and don't actually contribute anything besides posting hauls. I don't think there's anything wrong with that (I'm a lonelita myself who doesn't post anything) but I feel like the people that are selected to be leaders should be knowledgeable about different jfashions and should actively be contributing more than just consuming, hauling and vying for efame. They should love their fashion and really know their shit. I agree with this so much! Jfashion in the West has as become really boring because all there is people who wanna buy the latest items and wear the same basic looks as everyone else. When I first learned about jfashion years ago there was more people who actually put themselves into it. Not just girls looking to get follows and YouTube views.

We need more people who really love it and understand it. People who make tutorials, translate, etc are what keeps it growing and thriving. I'd love to see more of that. Kawaii.i is a joke but as a community we should work harder to expand jfashion to the world so it doesn't die off.

I'm glad to hear someone feels the same. I first got into jfashion around 2011/2012 and I remember being so amazed and excited about how everyone had some sort of individuality. Even though it wasn't that long ago in hindsight, things have changed a lot since then. It seems like back then people really gave their all into their style and their fashion communities but at some point it just became a race to have the most stuff to brag about and not even get excited for. There are some people who still really love it, but there are many others that just see it as a stepping stone to efame which is kinda lame, and when the community calls out these girls they just ragequit the fashion because they don't like the negative attention. If they really loved it they wouldn't be so transparent.

Like you said kawaii.i is a joke and it probably always will be, but the overall community will suffer if we keep letting it turn into nothing but a pissing contest of who has the most stuff and the most followers. I remember when Kera, Fruits and the GLB announced their closure and many people were panicking about it, yet only a few people actually talked about making a conscious effort to keep the fashion alive. Yes the days of print magazines and blogs are on their way out, but no one is actively trying to move forward and expand the fashion. Not many people translate the existing material from Japan either.

I honestly wish I had the skills to do it myself. I almost feel responsible for not actively trying to help the community by being a lonelita that doesn't like to post on social media. I don't want to be a kawaii leader or some shit, but I really do love jfashion and it'd be sad to see it die off because there aren't many people that represent it that really care about it.
