Lolitas, Cosplayers, and Con-goers in general:
How do you feel about LARPers in cons? People coming in their LARP kit, that is?

>> No.9718633

>>9718632
It's much more logical than coming in lolita

>> No.9718635

>>9718632
it's nice seeing the costumes if they're well-made and all that. i know i'm not gonna recognize every costume at a con, there are series i don't know so these are just gonna blend into that category.

it stops being nice when they try to LARP in a crowded area or get pissy when no one wants pictures of them or know what character they're supposed to be.

>> No.9718637

>>9718632
I don't like the general Lolita and larp stuff at cons anymore than they like cosplay and anime at their Ren faire and fashion shows.

Plus, larp invites the people who just put on airsoft gear and walk around the con daring people to call stolen valor on them

Basically this. They're cool, unless they act like assholes. That goes for everyone.

My local ren faire welcomes cosplayers and even furries to the point that they're offered their own area for stands.

I like ren faires and cons, but i really feel like mixing the two is absolutely unholy. The LARP/ren faire world has been somewhat insulated from thots and I'd like to keep it that way

But they're so awfully different. Atleast in the way I think renfaires are in the US.

>>9718635
LARPing on a con is cringey as Hell 99% of the time. It's on the same tier as Deadpools being annoying.

Only times I've seen it done right was when a LARP group got their own little camp and was prepared for crowd interactment. But those were experienced LARPers, with good costumes, and an in character encampment on the festival grounds.

And they kept it all funny, short, non-cringey, and normie accesible.

Oh God why.

The local larping community here steers clear of anime conventions after a small group had been too direct with some people of the other gender.

they have been ousted and banned from events years ago but the damage is done

They usually scrounge up their costumes from scratch and there's quite a few good ones, so it gets a pass from me.

There are some great costumes out there, they just sometimes fall short on a con. I mean, if I showed up there in full plate armour I might get some shots but heck aslong as it isn't boob plate I won't get love.

And that's all my fragile ego needs.

I like milsurp and wish it was a less charged subject so true Larps containing airsoft can exist.
not just airsoft game where the depth of the rp is shouting "ALLAHU ACKBAR" or "CHEEKI BREEKI BLYAT" during a fire fight.

again, im the exception to both most larper (who would rather have fantasy/ maybe sci-fi) and most airsofters (who would rather just shoot)

Not a Milsurp fan but I get where you're coming from. Same goes for normal LARPers, for every group of snobs (which I apparently am) there's tons of turbo tisms.

Reenactment kits could be really cool, but might look even more out of tune than some LARP kits. Don't underestimate how cool a LARP costume can be! There are so many sweet things you could do with your fantasy it's ridiculous.

I honestly would just assume it was from some game I wasn't familiar with unless they're being obnoxious. If it's armor like your pic I would be really impressed and I can't blame anyone trying to show that kind of thing off wherever they can.

>> No.9719782

I’m both a lolita and cosplayer and I’d welcome it just fine. I think it’d be pretty cool, but probably rare. I’d see it like a storm trooper cosplay at an anime con. Kind of “a fish out of water” but I’ve never seen someone not friendly to people like that. I had friends that actually cosplayed from some non-Japanese metal band and they got tons of love and people that happened to know who they were.

I really recommend you create a cosplay group or meetup so you’re not a lone wolf doing this. You might be surprised and find some friends or interested LARPers to recruit. You could start a small thing at your con where you all get together.

I can't speak for the LARPers because I've never been to a proper LARP, but the local ren/fantasy faire has been thot central for years. Lots of nearly topless Daenerys-lookalikes, skimpy forest fairies, bikini chainmail, ill-fitting corsets with tits flopping out, BDSM-types, etc. Anime cons used to be quite chaste in comparison until a few years ago.

as a larper I never had any kind of problem with going to cons. I mean nobody gave shit to us because we were larpers.
Although we usually bring programs too, like when people can try out larp swords and whatnot. We tried to bring smaller semi-larp games too so the congoers can try it out but they weren't really interested so we stopped that.

*Triggered*
I'm not sure if you're serious...?
LARP to me has little to do with the fighting. Drachenfest is fun, but most LARP combat is boring and doesn't form the basics of what it is to me. LARP is roleplaying. Acting.

For ideas you could pull off at a con, anything from witch hunts where you hand out flyers, arrest and trial con goers for their "magical" tools granted by the Devils such as cellphones or their weird hair colour.
Right up to doing things like a little camp where you simply portray camp life, pull congoers into a dancing class given by a lady-in-waiting, let them learn something nonsensical and fun from students of a (wizardry) university. Swordfighting, etiquette, in world lore, you can teach con goers anything.

Heck, you could put down your I-can't-believe-it's-not-Saxons and teach them how to do early rap battles (flyting), card weaving, pull them into some weird little ritual.

There's endless posibbilites all based on what kind of LARP(group) you want to portray and want to pull the congoers into. I mean what are the non-combat, non gameist, small things you do to make your LARP come to live? Take those, make them congoer friendly which is quite a challenge. And then get them interested, hooked, and sunk.

>> No.9720341

>>9720335
>Take those, make them congoer friendly which is quite a challenge.
indeed. There are a lot of good ideas that simply won't work if the average congoer is not interested or finds too alien/cringe/whatever so it could be a huge hit or miss, depending on the con.

>>9720332
>What is there to it other than foamstick-whacking?
everything.
While pretend fighting is fun at that's the easiest part where people could be roped in simply because people will clearly see something is happening, but it's just a small part of larping, and not even necesseary. I've been on more than a few larps where swordfights didn't happened (or gunfights), or even to larps where it wasn't even part of the system

>> No.9720347

Ill have this idea when 2 local royals are set to meet up or something and we will show of some Role>play aspects.

>> No.9720349

>>9720347
Usually you don't want to give a show, you could, but people want to feel what LARPing is like... So sure you can have 2 royals do a bit of back and forthing and make it regal and what have you, but how are you going to hook your congoers?

You need to have something that will "immerse" the congoers for a second. Something they can do or undergo usually. It needs to give them space to roleplay, but also be enough of a railroad to let it go foolproofed even when somebody is as shy as can be.

For example, you can have your 2 royals bickering and they need the people's voice to resolute their conflict. Ofcourse, not any peasant can vote! No, no, only nobility, people of pure blood, or good, tax-paying citizens can use their voice.
So now you have something the players have to fullfill, they can solve A by showing they're X.

The showing of X can be done by a scribe for example, make some little handouts that feel IC with a funny way of finding out if you're a noble or not.
For all I care you make a spreadsheet or a form that they can fill out with questions like "do you have a crown shaped mole somewhere" or "did you ever pull a sword out of a stone" "do watery tarts lob blades at you?"

Then they can turn in the form at the scribe, he'll tell them if they're special or if they're filthy plebes. If special they get to talk to the queen and cast their vote, if plebe they get some roleplay with scruffy looking guards who've been calling them names and eyeing them up ever since they came in.

Now that I came up with this shitty idea I feel like actually setting it up for a con.

>> No.9720357

>>9720349
on that note, you could add a little swordfighting stuff to it so people can became knights too if they battle XY and also take a little lesson on honor, etiquette and whatnot with added hilarity

>> No.9720363

I don't larp, but I guess it's kind of similliar to wearing lolita to a con. In lolitas' case, they can enjoy wearing their clothes without people thinking it's a fetish and yelling at them. Larpers have it harder cause wearing full plate armor is probably more socialy unacceptable than wearing a frilly dress. Cons can be the moment when they can wear what they can without anyone judging.

>> No.9720364

>>9720357
Exactly. Very important to have awkward stuff with teaching normies how to sing and dance 14th century style.

And don't forget to add some grubby characters to contrast your pump and circumstance. Contrast and hyperboles in theatre make humor, and humor connects players easily to the world.

nah. Wearing plate is usually counts as "cool" and "manly" as long as it doesn't look like totally shit. Even partially shit plate can be okay for the outside observer.
Exceptions occurs obviously.

From my own experience when I go to a con dressed in random larp costumes I usually get more weird looks but if I have armour on then people rather want to have a picture with me or interested if "it's real" or isn't it "too hot" etc.

I think you're confusing a costume with a lifestyle. Compaing LARP fashion, where you're literally an actor in an improv play and a fashion style with it's own subculture.
