How do I order from maidenclothing? I've tried on both my computer and phone and neither works for some reason, I think it's because it wants me to put something in the phonetic spelling section and it won't let me go past step one if I don't put in the right thing but I don't know what to put in! My dream dress is on there for an amazing price and I will die if someone gets it before I do! Please help?

If I'm starting out using tumblr for jfash, is it better for me to post my existing coords then follow people (so when they get a follow notification they'll click through and see what I've posted so far and maybe reblog it) or follow people and then post coords (so it'll show up on their dash and they'll maybe reblog it)?

I absolutely love the new Meta Collared Tuck Dress and am thinking of picking it up and a few socks. I've never actually ordered from Meta before somehow, I mostly just buy from IW new. So, two small questions. It doesn't look like it's selling out particularly fast at all, at least in my experience looking at stuff on Meta seems like if it's going to sell out it sells out like the sailor winter dress, so in Meta terms does that mean it'll probably be in stock until next week? I'm hoping to get the Khaki color.

Secondly, on their socks. I've been hoping for a long while to get the plain colored lace topped OTKs from IW, but just never have/they sell out/I honestly don't know or remember why I haven't yet. The Meta ones say they have raschel lace though - are they nicer than ones you'd get on Ebay/Amazon/comparable to IW's? I know raschel gets a bad rep and it can be okay, I'm just hesitant on it. It also seems like they don't have white, just off white, but is their off white actually pretty white or is that just in comparison to the antique white ones?

Sorry for being so anal about just a pair of socks, I just don't want to spend ¥3000 on a plain set of socks if I should just wait for IW ones. But I'm also tired of not having these basic essentials for coords.

>>9716634
I can't tell you much about the popularity of their dresses but if the dress you want is sold out by the time you want to buy it, you can email them and ask about it. Meta restrock quite often and they're very good with this, if the dress is still in stock somewhere they'll help you get it.
As for their socks, the lace is very nice and soft and the frill is quite extreme, even when worn, if you like that. They're the frilliest socks I own, compared to IW's and Baby's lace topped socks. As for the color, the off white is a bit darker than IW's off white, not quite beige but still not a perfect match. It's not very noticeable though, I like Meta's OTKs and this isn't a big deal imo but that's up to you for decide.

I ordered a blouse from baby that was in stock through their cart system about a week ago, now it's marked as out of stock and I still haven't heard anything. I know that the store stock can sometimes get bought but do they just not contact you at all?

I ordered a skirt through the cart system a few days later and it's already been invoiced, paid for and shipped by now. I'm not sure if I should contact them by now since it's exactly a week today. I thought they might be ordering in the stock from a random store but it's been 5 business days so I'm starting to wonder if my order just didn't go through? I got a confirmation and everything but I'm not sure if I should contact them by now.

I probably won't hear back until Monday anyway but I want to know first is it normal for them to just not contact you if they can't get your stock? Should I chase this up or do they back order things? I've ordered from baby lots before but this has never happened to me, the longest I've waited for the invoice was 4 days. Should I just give up and accept that I'm not getting the blouse? Because I can live with that but I don't want to spend my money on something else only to get the invoice the next day.

Reposting from previous thread, since I'm interested in more answers and opinions (thank you >>9715250 !).

How do I pick correct sizes, when ordering clothes online, especially lolita dresses?
I'm 85 cm bust, 65 cm waist, and 84 cm hips, which would make me pick S or M, but… I'm 175 cm tall, which places me quite far from 160 cm cute petite girls most of these dresses are intended for. My shoulders also are not one of the narrowest, at 39 cm.
I do not own any dress to have a point of reference, so I'm completely lost here.

Anything else I should know considering my size?
Any other tall lolitas that could share some of their wisdom and experience?
If a dress I like is out of stock for my size, should I consider smaller one, bigger one, or is it better to not bother and look for something else?

Also, where can I find pretty shoes, that would match coords, if I have EU 41~42 shoes size? Will I have better luck looking for places that make custom shoes? Taobao suggestions welcome.

When I Google nanchatte seifuku, all I can see is kogals and middleschoolers. In what way is this a cute wearable everyday style unless you're still at school? Could someone post a picture of what gulls mean when they discuss nanchatte?
And how is any of it related to himekaji?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm very confused and Google is just making it worse.

It's kind of below retail as it is, and very far down from the $600-800 it used to command.

One possible reason is that most girls still think of Holy Lantern as an iconic print the way Sugary Carnival was THE sweet print for a little while. It's the print that caused AP to shut down MTO halfway through because they'd received so many orders, AP USA did a weird 3rd MTO, and no other Halloween print seems to live up to whatever Holy Lantern is. So even if it's overhyped and common, I think a fair chunk of girls are still holding on to it because it's THE Holy Lantern. So the supply side is not as plentiful as it would be if it were any other print, and girls aren't willingly giving up such a print without at least getting a nice chunk of change back.

Another is that the demand isn't quite as low as it should have been. When the 2nd or 3rd MTO rolled out some gulls openly schemed to buy it "for cheap" when the secondhand market becomes oversaturated with it once it goes out. I think this led a handful of gulls who actually do want it to hold off on ordering it. So less Holy Lanterns actually got ordered and sent out, and those girls who wanted it really badly but want it "for cheap" are still left without their Holy Lantern, so now they're still hunting for that print. So the demand isn't as low as you'd think it should be.

Just an fyi, Day Dream Carnival MTO also flooded the market, but the price for that also stuck pretty close to retail even a year or two after the MTO went out. There's just something about some (in)famous prints where some girls always want them and the sellers always want extra money for them, it generally take a while, like a couple of years, for the price to actually move down.

How is it not a cute wearable everyday style? It's not limited to actual schoolgirls, as long as you dress yourself well. It might seem out of place outside of Japan, and/or if you're much older than a high school girl, but so does most other alternative fashion styles. In the west it just looks like a fashionable, "preppy" style, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I'd email them. imo they take their email orders very seriously, it's not a stock check and you can get blacklisted for refusing to follow through an email order after they confirm things. In my case they've written back to say stuff was out of stock, so it's very weird you didn't get an email reply at all. Maybe check if it went to spam or something?

>> No.9717161

>>9717159

And just to clarify, yes, they do sometimes take longer because if they cannot find it in stock at their physical shop they will search for it in all branches of their other shops. iirc IW also sometimes does this. That's why if you do an email order with either brands it can sometimes take a while for them to respond back to you while they try and figure out if any of the branches have the items you want (and it's also the reason you get blacklisted if you make them go through the trouble of doing that and then decide to cancel the order, iirc).

They do say to email them if you don't hear from them after 10 days, though, so if it's been that long, definitely follow up.

Thanks, I decided to email them yesterday but probably won't hear until tomorrow. I do still want the blouse but I only want one so I didn't do a mail order yet, because I didn't want to end up with 2 or get blacklisted.

I ordered it through the cart system so not sure why they didn't get back to me but hopefully they'll be able to find one somewhere. I'm definitely willing to pay, I've ordered from them many times before and I've had money set aside for when the blouse got restocked so I won't be cancelling. If they blacklisted me I'd be devastated since I buy so much stuff from them lol hopefully they know I'm good for my money.

I bought a skirt 2 days later and got invoiced the next day so I don't think it would've went to spam. Maybe it's because I ordered on a Saturday and the blouse went out of stock on Sunday my order got lost? It's still on my account record so idk. Hopefully they can let me know if they find one somewhere or if I should just give up.

Have you checked our nanchatte threads from the archive? There's lots of examples.

The idea of nanchatte is to simulate a school uniform, so basically, pleated skirts, collared blouses, neckties, baggy cardigans list goes on. You can take it whatever direction you like: you can go full on kogal with scrunchy socks and a tiny skirt and crazy hair and make, you can go and wear comfy walking shoes and a half undone tie and look like a tomboy and you can wear stockings and a nice vest and blazer and look preppy. Blazers and cardigans over blouses are way easier to pull off in the west than full on sailor collared sets, but I've gotten very positive reactions when wearing an actual seifuku from the general public.

It's pretty much unrelated to himekaji. Gyaru and nanchatte have some overlap in kogal, and himekaji (hime-casual) is a girly style taking influences from roma gyaru and hime gyaru.

Also, here is an article that explains nanchatte: https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2013/05/01/national/fake-school-uniforms-let-some-turn-back-the-clock/#.WiyqDjdry01

Hair and wigs are not the same. Wig fibers are plastic, so you need to treat them as such. When you use heat to style a wig, you need to give the wig a chance to cool to set the style. I've never had luck with a curling iron and wigs, I always use roll curlers and a hair dryer. Apply curlers, hit with hair dryer, and allow wig to cool in rollers to set the curls.

It just means that something has multiple ways of being worn. For example, this blouse, Angelic Pretty's Melty Royal Switching Necktie Blouse, is called "switching" because the tie is detachable.

So basically the item has detachable parts.

Switching means that the fabric "switches" from the bodice to the skirt. It can be a very small part on the bodice, as shown in pic related AP Holy Theater Switching JSK. It's often used to refer to border prints, because the fabric "switches" at the bottom. And also can refer to bibbed jsk/OPs, where that fabric is different than the rest.

Idk, I’m not that anon but I’ve always thought it was switching fabrics. Often, the AP cutsews have one color or fabric in one part than switch to the other. The detachable parts are incidental (i mean, half of all lolita items have detachable parts lets be real)

I need help nudging my gf to try new looks. She's made it clear to me she's not totally happy with her typical coords, but as a tomboy I've found she needs encouragement so I help her shop. In the past I've definitely leaned on some of the general stuff I've read on cgl.

In general I've found she seems to like:
- punk-gothy looks
- some goth-lolita stuff (she really liked an anime that seemed to feature those styles)
- anything involving corsets and chokers.
- tomboy/grunge looks

She's actually bought some fairly expensive corsets but rarely wears them, usually only when I encourage her and give coord suggestions. So I'm looking for advice or resources about the more basic stuff. I can tell she's frustrated in the sense that some pretty expensive central pieces are building up but she is having trouble making it work with her other clothes.

My sewing machine keeps skipping stitches, and I'm at my wits end trying to figure out why. It only started doing this recently.

I've played around with the tension quite a bit, so it isn't that. The needle isn't the problem, as I replaced it with a new one and the problem persists. I inserted the needle properly, with the flat end towards the back.

The fabric that I'm sewing is not sticky, either, and I'm using a basic universal needle for simple wovens (bedsheets)

Definitely wait a bit, delays are expected in this time of the year. It's a thing only in US & Canada, and Aus/NZ sizing.
EU (Paris points), Japanese (cm), and Korean (mm) sizes are unisex. UK uses different sizes for children and adults, but both are unisex.
Chinese sellers follow the Asian metric system, but usually show the size in (skewed) EU system, as the difference between sizes is 5 mm, instead of EU's Paris points (2/3 cm ≈ 6.7 mm). For this reason it's better to check the description and follow the guidelines for measuring your feet.
E.g. in pic related Chinese 33, the closest is EU35 (21.3 cm), and Chinese 44, the EU44 (27.3 cm). The sizes overlap at 42, where both sizes are for foot 26 cm long.

So, seagulls, help an anon out?

tl;dr : need nice midrange pricetagged maid costume to be worn during house cleaning duties. Where find?

I'm a terrible housekeeper. I usually let things go until they're disgusting and then it's a real chore to get them clean again. I really need to clean house regularly. BUT I'm really not into house cleaning. I need to incentivize myself so I'll do this regularly.

I'm thinking a cute or elegant sort of maid costume would do the trick. I only get to wear it when I'm actually cleaning. So it needs to be something that isn't a cheapo 20 dollar halloween costume; and it can't be something so expensive I'm terrified of getting it dirty. I'm open to all fabric suggestions : from cotton to latex; but it needs to be something easily cleaned.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post; thank you even more if you've got a suggestion.

Iirc Meta's International order is very easy and you don't need an SS. Just go to their site and look it up, I reserved a few dresses a couple years ago and it was very easy. Hopefully it hasn't changed. Which colorway are you getting? I am torn between really wanting this but unsure of which colorway, I know if I get the wrong one I'll never wear it. My style is more casual but I usually prefer black or brown. The black colorway of this looks pretty dressy in this so I'm not sure, the mustard and red is throwing me off, I don't know if I would ever wear it but it might coord with all the brown stuff I have? I don't know about pink, I do have pink and white shoes. I also have black and brown shoes. I would love to have the beige but that shade of light red doesn't match anything I own. I guess I could coord it with brown?

Help

Are you looking for the name of the exact item the model has on, or the name of that type of item? If it's the latter, I'm not sure there's a name; it looks like a specific type of madonna crown with a veil added. I looked on the brand's page but it doesn't look like they're selling a headdress that matches the part on top, just the veil and chain part, so I can't tell you what the designer would have called it.

Okay, thank you! If it goes up on the website for reservation, I'm definitely throwing my money at it, I was just worried maybe it might be a physical location purchase only, since I couldn't find info one way or the other.

I love the idea of the red/mustard because of traditional patterns and color pairings, but I don't think I could ever pull it off. I'm leaning towards the antique white JSK, but a lot of the details look better in the black... I guess I've got a little while to decide.
I think you could get away with coording any of them with some black, since the cats are. Good luck deciding, anon.

I feel stupid for not thinking of that, I only saw tutorials for gluing foam padding and the like. Looks like that might be my best option right now, I did actually strike lucky and find a vintage mannequin with a 31" bust and 22" waist on eBay, but it was in London and collection only.

Alright, I guess this is a good place to ask this.

I'm modding an old Darth Vader helmet I've had for about 10 years. I've made some alterations with epoxy and I'm working on the paint job, but I don't know what to do with the lenses.

They work fine right now, but I'd like to make them more opaque, while still being able to see through them. I've been looking at window film (like what people use for car wondows), but I hear it's hard to work with. Any ideas?

I'd also like to keep the very subtle reddish hue from the earlier versions of the helmet, but I could live without that. Pic related isn't mine, but it's the ideal effect.

I've been to countless conventions in the past, and I love to cosplay. I've done genderbent cosplay and I was ok with it before. I recently had a friend (girl) ask me to do a Nekopara cosplay duo with her, and I just don't know. I've never worn a dress and I'm not sure if I have the will to do it.
I think wearing a dress would look cute on me. I have a thin physique and a decent face. I don't want to post pics desu, I did cosplay as D.Va before, without a wig and it went well.
I guess I just need a confidence boost desu, make me not feel like it's degenerate to do so. I'm straight. I guess some good advice or stories are appreciated.

Really? I think the black looks the worst because it's hard to see the cats. But on the other hand it's more subtle and would be easier to wear, hopefully. The cats show up so nicely on the other colorways, but they are definitely more attention grabbing.

If it's not relevant to the job then just mention "Crafts, not necessarily "arts and crafts", but I like to [sew/tailor/customize my clothing], [learn new skills/build props/prototype things], and/or [practice graphic design/drafting/etc], also fashion"

Cosplay is a lot of hobbies under one banner.
