Is it considered impolite to message a seller on LM about an item that has expired the listing, but was marked as unsold? Theres nothing that says "reserved for XXXX" in the listing description.

I fell asleep and missed it, but the listing says it wasn't sold.

Good choice anon! I know people tend to be nicer and more enthusiastic when you aren't full gaijin mode. Most people in the city dress nice so it's really better to try and look somewhat put together. I recommend putting your hair up or braids, just to keep it out of the way and looking nicer longer. Also in the fall it rains a lot so definitely buy an umbrella upon arrival (they are really cheap in conbini so I wouldn't bring one). People will also use them for snow if it does happen to snow when you're there. The closet child in Shinjuku has sadly down sized, so I'm no longer sure which cc store has the best stock anymore. Be careful wearing lolita in Harajuku, there's so many tourists lately, I avoid it altogether.

>> No.9764133

>>9764052
I can say that wearing even a casual j-fashionish outfit will get you better service in harajuku. In general, I just think other alternative dressed people are tired of tourists treating harajuku like a zoo, so if you go in there in normie mode, they'll probably just think you're there to look at the people and not actually buy a thing.

Some people say gothic lolita is from Osaka and Kobe (I think it says so in Kawaii Deficit Disorder but I don't have that book), and some old brands like Meta, Kazuko Ogawa, Miho Matsuda, Visible, VM and IW are all from Kansai area. But the first MILK shop was in Harajuku and is older than those brands.

I also read about thta in another book, it was a Japanese author who claimed that Gothic came from Osaka. I believe they also related it to the Vkei industry there.
Milk indeed came from Harajuku, but whose article I read did mention MILKs influence both not on Lolita specifically. It was more mentioned in the same order of VW and Punkisk cute looks. I think Baby also came from tokyo. And even though the brand might not be old. I know that the designer already made similair kind of stuff at his old job.
I feel like Osaka was for Gothic and Tokyo for Sweet. But it’s hard to find someone who can confirm.

The Asian Disneys play by different rules, most of the stories about lolitas being kicked out come from US Disneys. Meanwhile lolitas seem to have zero issues getting into Disney Japan in OTT sweet, plus on Halloween they allow/encourage people to do full-on cosplays of Disney characters, which is what you'd avoid in the US, Halloween or not.

No idea about Disney Paris, though I've heard of lolitas being kicked out from Versailles and some church, so I'd guess toning it down is the way to go.

Apologies about the Asian disney parks, I did not realise their rules were more relaxed. That aside, I definitely someone on social media wear lolita for most of the time they were at Disneyworld, as in the one in FL. Also saw another lolita while I was there, but her petti was sort of flat and she was wearing some sort of taobao classic brand. I love Ame-mura! I spend a lot of time there. It's in a hip and kind of grungy area of Osaka called Shinsaibashi near Dontonbori (street food and famous Glico running man sign). A lot of tourists visit. I love it because I love lolita and there are few secondhand shops and brand shops. Kobe has quite a few brand shops too, all in the same shopping section. Osaka's brand shops are spread around Shinsaibashi and Umeda in Osaka. Overall Ame-mura appeals to many different fashions and I don't see tons of lolitas there. Plenty of lolitas get harassed for their appearance alone, even when people don't know what the fashion is called. The name is objectively cute and it's got controversy attached to it because people don't understand basic concepts of literature; it's subversive just for being what it is and it's perfect for this fashion style that's very cute and very outstanding compared to many other styles you might see on the streets, and like I said, the look alone is enough to attract negative attention because people are judgemental and afraid of things that are different.
The fashion has been called lolita for decades, long before you knew it even existed, and in the grand scheme of things it's really not that big of a deal.

>> No.9765600

>>9765593
With alt fashion like gothic people know that it's fashion and a subculture these days. Underage lolitas have problems with people genuinely believing they have a child sex fetish. One of the main arguments used to be that if we kept using lolita, it would be known as a subculture eventually, like gothic is now. They thought the book would become less well-known, but instead, DDLG has become more popular and well-known than this fashion ever will be.

>>9765599

>> No.9765611

I'll try rephrasing my point: People are quick to judge things and don't take the time to understand things that are different; they have a preconceived notion of what the name Lolita supposedly means or represents and they won't be told otherwise, because they don't care for our explanations and they don't care to know better.
Did you know that these ddlg fucks are using egl tags on instagram, the kind of tag the community adopted in order to avoid using the name lolita outright? It just goes to show that while the name is controversial, it's not actually the issue. You can call this fashion alice-kei or oujo-kei or princess style and people are still going to judge or in the case of fetishists, use it for their own sick kicks, so there's no point in changing it.

What do you gulls think about gray/white wigs for lolita? I'm putting together a coord that's all black (I would say it's more classic than gothic though), and I feel like my brown wigs look really bad with it. I tried it with a black wig but I think it looks really boring.
I have a gray and a white wig (not for lolita purposes), but I know a lot of people on here think that gray and white look really bad with lolita.

However, I've never seen anyone get shit on in the CoF threads for wearing gray wigs (as long as the wig itself looks good ofc), so I was just kinda wondering what the general opinion of those colors are

Pic related is the white wig that I'm thinking of using. Worst case scenario I'll have to get a blonde wig and see if that works.

I'm currently growing my hair out, so it's at a pretty awkward length atm, and I'm growing out bangs as well, so they're like down to my chin
I think bangs looks best with lolita, but I've had bangs for so long so I want to have them grown out for a while and see how I feel about it
It just wouldn't look good, no matter how I styled it.

Natural hair definitely looks better if it's healthy, relatively thick, nicely styled, a nice color and works with the coord. That's not always the case, and if it's not, I don't see a problem with using wigs

guys I need to vent.
I bought some shit off of Maiden Clothing over a month ago. I've bought with them tons of times before and never had this issue.

I just won a bid on a dress and went into my account to add funds to my paypal, only to find that I had -$125 when yesterday I had over $200. Apparently the money from my Maiden Clothing order took a month to actually pull the funds from my account, then I got charged a $10 foreign payment fee, which put me over and caused my bank to charge me two $40 overdraft fees, one for the maiden clothing order and one for the foreign payment fee because they count as two seperate transactions.

i am just freaking the fuck out right now I don't know what to do. ive never had a payment take so long to go through and now it's really fucked me up bad.

i know it's my fault, i should of noticed that the money wasn't pulled from my bank, but i had sold a huge chunk of my wardrobe at the time
so i had so much money at the time i didn't notice if $200 was pulled out or not.

Sorry for the blogpost I just needed to vent.

I think its like the other anon said, people don't know how to style their hair. And with the way everything is nitpicked to death in lolita lately, I'm sure many are afraid to use their real hair and try to style it in a way suitable to lolita out of fear of being ostracized. The rest could could make theirs look perfectly decent with a nice trim and better styling. I also know several lolitas with great hair who still wear wigs the majority of the time, which baffles me. listen, anon, wigs are a part of the fashion. it's by no means mandatory, but they can really add color, size, and style to a coord.
I wish I could wear my wigs more but my issue is I have too much fucking hair. I'm talking high density, very thick, and curly. It takes so much effort to braid all my hair down, and even then I may look like a conehead if I can get the wig on.
it's way easier than taking the 4.5 hours necessary to straighten my hair. I've been using my natural hair for the past few months but I love the twintail look from the OTT sweet era. wigs are so easy and versatile when I have the time and energy to slap one on.

I don't get your attitude. do you feel pressure to wear wigs? some noobs may think they HAVE to wear them, but anyone with experience knows that styled hair is key to coord balance, whether artificial or natural. don't sound so threatened.

I have no shame towards lolita and I've grew a thick skin in these past years. But I like the concept of "lo maiden". They still call the fashion itself lolita, they've just came up with a different word to call themself. It is a bit weird calling the fashion title as your own individual title as well imo. "I am a lolita" is just odd thinking about it terms of if someone says "I am a larme" or something. One of my close friends is leaving lolita and sold me this dress for cheap because it's one of her favorites, so it's still "in the family" so to speak if she ever decides to come back. Plus i am a huge sucker for fawns and I've admired her wearing this print for a very long time.

Issue is, she was into ott sweet where i am classis. The sweetest print in my closet before this has been Lotta or other "sweet" IW pieces, though my wardrobe mostly consists of floral and gobelin prints. How the fuck am I going to coord this dress? I think asking about "any strong scents" up front is important if you are sensitive to them.

I am, and if I get something that smells strongly like an artificial scent (or smoke, or if it has animal hair/dander), it sends me into a sneezing fit. My eyes water, my throat gets all tight, and I have to wash/treat/hang it immediately or sometimes take extra medicine for it. For a few days after, if I go in the room I opened it in, I'll have the same reaction.

I am getting my allergies treated, but it still sucks. So I always ask first.

People become immune to scents in their own home, so they probably didn't notice. If getting something, even NWOT, that has a scent could bother you, always try to ask first! But I would not leave bad fb, maybe just let them know so they are aware.

I have made the mistake of purchasing things from japan before and gotten items that were so permeated with fake fragrances, I had to give them away because there was just no way to get it out, too. But that's beside the point.

I've had people ship me brand jewelry in plastic bags (and they would arrive broken/snapped), dresses thrown in thin cardboard boxes so the rain destroyed it, and had items show up with undisclosed stains, deodorant marks, or smelling of BO before too. If I was more artistically included, I would make a "how to ship lolita sale items" guide with some instructions on how to not be a train wreck of a seller.

This is so dumb. I look at the new listings to look at new listings, not some reposts when a dress gets 10 watches (which is hardly any so the dresses are likely being constantly relisted). Also, it's a stupid move on the sellers part. LM usually sends an email to watchers when an item is relisted or lowered in price, and I always check back for that since I don't have time to keep checking LM. Something about it looks costumey and cheap, I can't quite put my finger on it. The wig doesn't look too bad actually, you do have the color balance going on and the motifs to bring out the theme, but for some reason it doesn't really work aesthetically. Might be the accessories you've chosen, I'm not sure.
Generally speaking I think that working with a main piece with a cathedral or stained glass print would be a better base for this idea; when you do it with solids like this it kinda looks like a costume and the theme isn't really obvious.
Sorry if this is a bit confusing, I'm not very articulate today.
