9760214 No.9760214 [Reply] [Original]

What's the worst experience you've had buying/selling something jfash online?

I've been fairly lucky so far, my worst experiences were a girl demanding her dress be with her for a certain date after I'd already posted it and she had refused to pay for express shipping (which would make it come in time).
I also get a few people lowballing me for ridiculous amounts, but that's not terrible. They're just shooting their shot I guess.

>> No.9760250

I haven't really had any bad experiences thankfully. I've sold/bought on a few platforms and honestly LM doesn't seem to have as many people lowballing as, say, depop/ebay do.

My one pet peeve with LM is people having the "make me an offer" option on an item they're selling then getting upset when you do actually, well, make them an offer. Read your own listings ffs.

>> No.9760255

>>9760250
This. I also hate that a lot of sellers on LM never lower their prices, even on listings that have been up for literal years. Bitch, do you want my money or not?? I'm not paying retail for a basic ass dress that's been out forever.

>> No.9760263

>>9760250
OP here and I only get irritated when people lowball me crazy amounts, like asking for 50% off and free shipping. I've specifically changed my ToS to say no offers now, but people pm me because apparently a $140 jsk is too much.
It's not like I'm selling CTP, I'm selling prints that usually go for the prices I'm selling them at.

>>9760263
Well yeah, that's just a shitty thing to do. I've dealt with that as well, although thankfully not on LM as most people seem to be somehow civilised.

I think people have made a reputation of lacemarket being over-priced, but a lot of times people are just selling something for the price it normally goes for + shopping service fee. Like you can argue that people shouldn't add the SS and shipping fee to them, but in that case they will probably still sell it to you if you offer 20$ less.

I bought a dress from a seller and they accidentally sent me a completely different one. I mistook it as a gift and got attached to it, but then the seller messages me asking for the JSK back. I reluctantly sent it back (they paid for the postage) and finally got the dress I ordered. At the time, I was going through a family death so it struck me really hard that this lovely dress that I thought maybe my boyfriend had gifted me, was just a mistake. I ended up selling the original dress I bought too since it was such a bad memory.

Man, my worst is so mediocre compared to others. Ordered an IW dress on LM. Seller did not disclose she owned a dog. The dress was covered in dog hair. Thank goodness I'm not allergic and the only drawback was having to waste about 12 sheets off my lint-roller to get it back in shape.

I appreciate when sellers disclose they have pets and also note that they make every effort to keep hair away from your clothes. Also, is it so hard to lint-roll your shit before you mail it out?

They arrived in a large packing box, about 2 feet cubed with no stabilization or packing at all and were sent through usps' media mail, which is illegal. Also just received a dress and it smells so strongly of smoke I had to put it outside, but the smell keeps blowing in to my room. It was labeled as yellowing, but the colour looks fine. I’m going to try a gentle hand wash with vinegar but I’m worried for the print. Will test a waist tie.

I've found that eucalyptus and baking soda helps with smoke smells a lot. You can put it in a bag with eucalyptus branches and baking soda for a few days, it'll take the edge off at least. You can get eucalyptus at craft stores on the flower section.

I kind of don't like selling to people I know irl, I often get taken advantage of people who are friends or acquaintances who think they can get away with anything because years ago I had promised to them to give them first dibs on some items if I ever decide to sell them. Now they think they have special some status and act accordingly. There is one particular person I've had multiple of bad experiences with. We have an almost identical taste in dresses so whenever I'm selling a dress, she's often the first person claiming interest and wanting to buy it. She often asks for payment plans. Then she doesn't complete her last payment on the agreed date and it takes her days to message me back. Finally I receive the last payment 1-2 weeks later with the excuse that she was busy or had some unexpected bills to pay first. The thing is though that I often see her on FB buying stuff from other places in the meanwhile and being able to pay for them in time. I also bought a dress off her one time. She claimed it was never worn but it reeked horribly of BO that on top of washing it I had to air it out for days to get rid off the smell completey. It made me mad because I always bring the clothes I sell to her to the dry cleaner first to make sure they are in good condition before shipping. She is also fairly well known within the community, so I ofter wonder if other people had similar experiences with her or if I'm the only one that gets such a shameless treatmemt.

I have a friend who has almost the same taste as me too. She has a lot of rare dresses that are on my wishlist. But I guess she forgets our near-identical taste, 'cause she doesn't tell me when she's selling so I'm always too late for it. I hate admitting this but it does make me a little bit salty, since I have given her good deals in the past and found things for her from her wishlist. She has never sold anything to me or traded anything with me. I think she just doesn't care.

I'm the same way. I used to offer things to my comm first and for a better price, but I've stopped in the last few years because of all the problems.
I've had girls not show up to pick up their stuff (meets or places we'd arranged), show up to pick it up and then say they don't want it (oh, anon, I accidentally spent all my money on merch at a con last weekend!!), and even try to scam me and start shit with my friends in the comm over the condition/quality of items when I clearly laid out any defects.
That girl was trying to convince my friend and a mod to pressure me into giving her a partial refund because a stain, that I detailed extensively, wouldn't wash out. I'd already sold her the dress for like half market price. Thankfully our mods are reasonable and screencaps are a thing. That girl also flounced eventually.

I really didn't have nearly as many issues even 3-4 years ago.

I don't leave negative feedback for no extra packaging. I might dock a star or two (depending on how bad it is) and put something in the review, but it doesn't warrant negative feedback imo.

Can relate, this is the kind of behaviour I was talking about that drives me mad. Makes me wonder who I can really call my friend at the end of the day and who just befriended me out of opportunism and self-interest because I own some rare dresses and they want to keep close in case I'm selling them so they can be the first one to grab the item. And when that day comes they are unreliable af or backing out because "b-but we're friends, there'll be no consequences right, lol?". In reality I just want to be around people I can rely own, who can keep their word and who care also a little about me for a change.

I was looking for a stupid AP bag for YEARS. I posted WTBs here, LJ, FB sales groups and our comm; had it on our comm wishlist; and had mentioned it multiple times in convos irl.

Unbeknownst to me, one girl in my comm, who I honestly considered my friend, had said bag. One day she decided to just list it on LM, and it was snatched (for way less than I was willing to pay) before I even saw it.
There's no way she didn't know I was looking for that. The fact that she never even said she owned it makes me feel like she just played me.

I didn't even feel like confronting her over it, I was so devastated. When a friend said, "Oh, hey, didn't you know anon was frantically searching for that bag?" She supposedly just shrugged it off.

yes! The last time I sold a dress, I didn't have a cute bag lying around, so I put the dress in a grocery plastic bag (clean, but had some wrinkles) before putting it in a tote bag I had lying around and finally put it in a cardboard box, put a cute note in there, wrapped that up in paper, and then sent it. I was panicking the whole time because I thought I would get negative feedback for using a cheapo plastic bag with some wrinkles. I can't understand how you can just throw a 100-400$ dress in an envelope/empty box like that and be okay with it? WTF?

After I finally got my necklaces, they were just thrown into a box and ended up getting badly scuffed from being thrown around and banging against each other.

I do too, USPS can be really rough with mail and I've received many torn bags, that extra layer of protection even a regular shopping bag gives can save a dress. Plus it just looks like more thought and care was put into it. I also get annoyed when bendable or breakable stuff like metal hair combs get sent in envelopes, instead of small boxes. When you send stuff out imagine the absolute worst will happen, because if it can be shoved in a mailbox it will, no matter what's inside the bag. I have a closet full of boxes, saved clear bags from CC purchases, and saved bags from electronics equipment at work to send things in.

hi
attached image is from something like 2015 or early 2016, this issue has been ongoing for years
I have a whole folder of these and was working on getting an informational tumblr up, but that's been on hold for years now as I'm a busy/lazy shit
she made some awkward promises about getting to everyone to get me off her back (I called her out publicly under one of those facebook posts), but I never got any proof of her solving the rest of the issues around

see I wouldn't even care about the pricing or the quality issues, but what really irks me is that she will only ever get anything done if one of her friends points her attention to the matter - which is just an absolutely trashy way of running a business. Beth - the OP of the thread other anon posted - only got her issues resolved after some friend pointed Nina to that thread and she launched her whole 'oh gosh the CS rep is so sick!' spiel that she runs through every time someone calls her out. I'm pretty sure her rep was "sick" for like eight out of twelve months that year

That's kind of what happens when you buy used stuff, most people can't be bothered, however it's really shitty that the seller didn't say they were a smoker, smoke and whatever other shit is in cigarettes actually stain clothes yellow and the smell always sort of lingers. I'd never buy anything from a smoker, no matter how cheap.
