Pulled out my ita-outfit for my OTP bag for Valentine's Day (I can't remember if I've posted this bag before so I do apologise if I have). Valentine's Day is a big day for my OTP as well because on this day the actor for one half said his character loves the other haha (Alain and Makoto from Kamen Rider Ghost, respectively).

Finally got around to taking pics of my two YOI bags. As per suggestions like half a year ago I'm adding Canadian paraphernalia to JJ's like the flag and Canadian Tires logo. Not sure where I want to put it, either on the front or one of the sides. I'm still looking for a crown to add to the center top and some decent Tim Hortons merch too ( surprisingly slim pickings to find ). Also wondering if I should bother finishing lining the heart with rhinestones? The ones I have are a yellow/gold color which I like but suggestions are welcome.

Ok I work with LEDs regularly because I hate myself so here's my tips for you anon. I'm gonna break it up into easy to read shit to try make it easier than a wall of text. Subjective opinion™

LEDs are entirely dependant on what you're doing with your bag. So your bag itself, color, character, theme, layout, all this stuff you should take into consideration.

> Bag filled with nothing but rows of canbadges OR rubber straps. AKA JP Hoarder style.
If your bag is layering badges upon badges with no insert visible there's literally no point in putting leds in. Same goes for rows of rubber straps. Both of them are gonna block any light showing through. If you have spaces between you can put LED behind or even around the edge (probs don't though)

> Your bag is white and your character wears light colors.
Unless you're riding your bike in the dark and you want high visibility so you don't get run down by a car you probably shouldn't put LEDs in. They'll wash your merch out and people won't be able to see your hard earned cash.

> Shallow window and/or open top tote.
If your bag is shallow you're not gonna have much room to squeeze a battery box in there without an ugly bulge, and some bags are so skinny they can just about fit foam in with your badges. With the open top bags like the Utapri ones you can slip the battery box at the bottom, but you need to make sure the top of your insert is really clean looking.

> You have a window bag like the heart ones.
Cool. You can install your leds behind the window frame so make the inside light up. It's a trick PC builders use with windowed cases so the window lights up but you can't see the LED strips. If you have a cheap ass bag and you can see the lights through your damn frame then just get some colored craft foam and make the shape so you can block it out and focus it on your window only.

>> No.9787523

>>9787221

PART TWO BITCH

> Plan your LED layout
Don't just through your LEDs in randomly for the sake of a light up bag. Do you want them to look like stars? Do you want a rainfall look? What about a heart shape? Plan it around your merch layout, go for some cool balance, target areas that need that extra light to make it stand out. Unless you're making a Santa Claus bag you don't want it to look like a trashy christmas decoration. Consider what the theme of your bag is, will lights really suit your character?

> DIFFUSE YOUR LEDS
Don't have your naked LEDs hanging in your bag because it not only looks tacky (You can see the wires, they wash out your merch etc.) LEDs are really fucking bright and on their own and light sensitivity is a real issue thanks to our screen based generation. You might think your flashing rainbow bag is a cool idea but don't take it out in public because it's not cool to trigger a passerby with epilepsy. If your leds are running around the edge of your bag in a line like a frame then diffiusing will help blur them into a smoother light instead of polka dots.

Quick fix and honestly the best way: Install your leds behind your insert. But if you're using a built in Wego one or your material is too thick for light to shine through properly there are so many ways to diffuse your lights. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=diffuse+led+light you're welcome. You can also buy decorative LEDs like ones in foam flowers and shit which will help diffuse them and can look nicer inside your bag. Just make sure your wires are covered because they're gross.

> There's alternatives to setting fire to your money
El Wire is *cold* it doesn't generate heat, it's also flexible and frequently used for fabric, it is NOT LEDs. It won't light shit up like LEDs will, but if you want to make a nice trim around your bag that lights up and your window has no frame definitely consider it. T&B anon uses EL Wire as a trim and it suits.

>>9787221
I personally like how #extra lighting in a bag is, but presentation is really important on LEDs. Exposed wires are ugly, and the lighting usually just looks bad if it's turned on in daylight situations because it detracts from the merch instead of adding to the display. For most instances you want something easy to turn off/on, and something that will be nearly invisible or still aesthetically pleasing when it's turned off.

Pic attached is my bag with lights. The outer lights are hidden inside ribbon for daytime display, and they're balanced with lighting along the back of the dinnerplate badge to help display the merch instead of drowning it out. There are hidden holes in my backing board that the LED strings are threaded through so that the battery box is behind the backing board, and since my backing is only pinned at the top on the sides it's easy to reach in and turn it off/on.

Chiming in just in case anyone is curious about ELwire and how it looks in an indoors setting. I know when I bought it I thought it would be a lot brighter going off the stock photos but it's still pretty good for indoors lighting. Outdoors during the day though? Save your batteries.

Also be prepared in case your battery pack starts screaming. When I got mine it made a high pitched screeching noise that made me freak out and thing it was going to explode. Apparently it's annoying but common. Now I just stash the battery pack in the main compartment of my bag to muffle the noise if I'm in a quiet setting.

And another tidbit I almost forgot. Mine came with three settings: soild, slow blink, quick blink. During the day the quick blink isn't so bad but at night when the color shows more I'd definitely stay on solid or slow blink.

It's definitely cheap as well. 5 meters is roughly $6 and was enough to do 4 full loops around my ThankYou Mart bag with extra to spare.

Two options: you can put the lights behind the merch to bring it out from the back of the bag bag, or you can frame the merch (run the leds around the outside) to bring light into the bag from the sides. I think the latter would look nicer for a sports bag, you could even go for a spotlight look! It depends how much room your window has.

I've been watching her posts since the whole "steal my daughter's bag" incident and this hobby isn't for her. She has absolutely no love or interest in any character, she only wants to show off how much money she spends.

But that person is right, it's totally distasteful. Not everyone has a big income, some people spend months or years building a single bag because they really love the character. If these plush were so popular the company had to re-release them it shows how much people desperately wanted one and how much they care about the series.

But she doesn't. She buys for the sake of buying and then comments on every post seeking attention for her disgusting hoarding habit. She's not an itabagger, she couldn't be any further from one. She doesn't grasp the very core concept of making a bag, its totally beyond her. I'm convinced at this point the only reason she's in this group is because she wants people to show off her spending to. She's a deluded hoarder, I'm betting she scalps because she has a huge debt, I saw a Facebook post on her profile where she said she couldn't afford her kids lunches at school and had to borrow money from her mother (no she isn't married apparently she sued her husband and took his children, house and money that's how she afforded this before).

Betty just uses this as online bragging. If you look at her eBay page it's reselling doll parts so odds are if you dug enough you'd find her on doll groups/sites bragging about how much she spent there.

She doesn't care about making anything she loves, she just wants an excuse to buy things and then feel superior when she can butt into someone's post with "Well you spent X amount of money but I spent XX amount of money in a shorter time!"

You can iron the cheap feeling pvc, you can even try iron the edges of the bag to make them sit in the window without being a twisted mess, but it doesn't work. I've never in over a year managed to get it to not look like a lumpy shit and every bag I've seen using it is the same. I've recently been thinking about upgrading my itabag with some rosettes for my badges like pic related. How do you guys decide what color the rosettes should be? I'm doing JJ from Yuri! On Ice and my bag for him is pink, so I don't want to do pink rosettes on a pink bag with mostly pink merch.

>How do you guys decide what color the rosettes should be?
Go off of the character's color palette or "secondary" colors (like a second 'signature color'; not all characters have this though). Sometimes you can find ribbon that meshes color palette and at least one of the character's signature colors.
Otherwise you can just go with neutral colors.
Really depends on what kind of ribbons you have.

Speaking of rosettes, does anyone have tips for making the ribbons pleat neatly like in the pic in your post? I have a hard time folding them evenly while in a circular shape.

A small itabag story:

I moved to Japan in 2016 to teach and live out weeb dreams, as you do. I have mediocre Japanese skills, so I didn't really expect to make any friends that weren't other foreigners (how could we communicate?), but that was fine. I had made a Jyushimatsu ita bag (the backpack in the first picture), and wore it to Tokyo during an event. On an escalator, I get tapped on a shoulder by a total stranger, a girl with the exact same bag as me! Same WEGO backpack, decorated with Jyushimatsu. We waved to each other, it was nice, we parted ways.

Later that day, what do you know, I ran into her again. We had both gone to this anime drink cafe; she gave me a Jyushimatsu coaster, since she had already gotten one before. My Japanese was ESPECIALLY bad at this point, but we were able to communicate with lots of pointing and gestures and showing off our bags. We exchanged twitter and LINE.

It's been a year and a half since then, she's my closest friend here. We and all her Osomatsu fangirls (of all ages, 20s - 40s) to to cafes, events, all sorts of things, and even though I speak like a caveman they're all really sweet and accepting with what we have in common. The bag in the picture is full of buttons from all the events we went to together over the past year! My new friendship ita bag. I'm so glad I was wearing my backpack that day.

I had just picked up a JJBA artbook that had just arrived to my student hall's reception and in excitement started opening the package while still in the elevator. There was another girl there, she suddenly gasped and went "Jojo??" and I was just completely caught in surprise (had 0 anime friends at my hall). She spoke very poor english, but we chatted as best as we could with simple sentences and gestures. Turns out she never read/watched it but recognized it and liked manga/anime in general and we lived in the same floor. Chatted for ages with the most broken/basic english but she was incredibly nice and invited me to go over to her own flat sometime. I visited, she offered me super yummy cakes and a gashapon, we shared our cosplay photos (she's an incredible costume maker) and talked for ages. Unfortunately we met already close to the end of that school year and she was leaving to continue her studies in a different city, tho same country.
We planned to meet at a con in the city she moved to and there, I gifted her a keychain of her favorite Touken Ranbu character, that she was actually cosplaying that day. Her reaction was so adorable it really made me happy.
The second day of the con, I got lost from the group of friends I was with and she was on her own as well so we spent the entire afternoon together, she held onto my arm the entire time and gifted me a keychain from her homecountry (which I have on my desk).
She was leaving to go back home for good soon after, so we said our goodbyes and haven't seen eachother ever since (we actually had the misfortune of visiting Japan pretty much at the same time but finding out too last minute to be able to meet. I had just arrived and she was just leaving).
However, the other day she posted she was going to be making an itabag for her favorite Tourabu and there it was, the keychain I gifted her. I know it's just because it's a keychain of the character but I just feel really happy I'm somehow part of her bag.

Any ideas on how to make the Swimmer bag (with all the buttons) more interesting? They're all buttons I got with a friend in this >>9791756

I actually got even more attached to him once he became captain haha. I already loved him to bits but seeing him go through so much and growing to become such a strong captain just made me love him even more. He's still got his dorkiness! It just shows a bit less often since he has a lot more responsibility now.

I just have pics of the old bag, I already took it all apart. I'm not too fond of the base bag anymore (funny enough, now I have a fair bit more Namja items that fit those cat ears a lot better but eh) and neither was I too happy with the layout.
I was gonna start putting the new one together when I replied to you but then I remembered I still have a few more items in the mail. Considering dividing it all between two bags, one for his second year items and the other for third year/captain.

I would definitely try to center everything in the bag instead of leaving gaps at the end of one side! You can also try to balance the expressions/themes of each button to make it feel more cohesive. If you have any little decor that matches the character, that would also be cute! Lace or rosettes that are close in color to your other bags would also pull the bags together.

Would it be worth attempting to make a rigid backing for it or is it too risky? I dunno if anyone has had large acrylics breaking while wearing their bag but if it's too much a risk I guess I'll just use the small version I own as well and just display the huge one in my room..

That's fine because goodsrepublic are huge scalpers you just saved like $100

Any NYC locals know if there are any itabag stores in the city?

Currently visiting and figured I would inquire.

Any inspiration for doing things with can badges besides putting them in rosettes? I was thinking about turning one into a hanging keychain but I would want it to look fancy and nice if I went that route

> itabag stores
No because the bags themselves aren't called itabags.

I meant that the bag you commented about is just a covered tote, not the same as what you linked now. Good choice of bag tho, I hope you can find one. Should pop in secondhand auctions?

Goodsrepublic just relists shit off Surugaya for the most part. I love them because
>look for stuff you want in english
>copy and paste original jap into google
>find product on surugaya
>buy

It's pretty easy enough to just search your waifu's name though.

>>9797440
There's no such thing. People will list bases as itabags in titles and descriptions online. Forever 21 sells some bags but they're meh

anyone have experience with these bags, or examples using them?

Not a store specifically for bags as far as I know, but there were some base bags in Kinokuniya last I went. It's a nice store to walk around anyways if you're in the area, even though I find all my merch cheaper online.

Try talking to a girl with the same theme as me and it didn't go to well.

>See girl with a bag of the same character as I do
>Compliment her say hers is really nice and pretty
>She gives me a look and completely ignores me and turns away
>Didn't know what to do, awkwardly walk away

Anyone else experience this? Is this common?

Nerds are weird. It took me a long time before I could handle compliments. I got so much girl bullying in school it took me forever to figure out that compliments aren't backhanded insults.

what transformer? i'd love to make a starscream one one day desu

also, i want to make my next ita bag something stupid and ironic. i've been debating my two fav underrated characters waluigi and gul'dan, but waluigi's becoming normie-popular now and i don't want to be 'that guy'. gul'dan is actually really fucking hard to find merch for, though.
i've also considered doing sans but i think that's too borderline.
should i go with waluigi or gul'dan?
(yes, i'm being 100% ironically serious.)

Gul'dan, please
I'm making WoW charms so I'll post a link up for you after it's done later this year if you decide to go through with it

holy shit dude. please do??

i've got a lot of merch ideas in mind but it's either;
1. WoW version with lots of horde merch/green colours. would need a lot of improvising for gul'dan specific stuff
or
2. hearthstone version; theres a bit of warlock merch so it'd be less difficult. would be very purple-and-black

god help me

consider, you could put skulls on the straps of your bag to mimic the ones on his back. honestly wow bags have a lot of potential in terms of decor, you just have to be ready to make a lot of your own buttons out of official art

>> No.9798195

>>9798184
holy shit that's a great idea, dude. but it'd leave less room for badges/etc, maybe that's a good thing

and yeah, an illidan bag would be awesome as well considering he has more merch and a cooler colour scheme. too bad i don't like him too much

They're actually Hearthstone charms, haha. I legitimately wanted to make a set so I could have some Anduin merch because bless his heart the only official thing he has is the pin that was in the series 4 bags. But I didn't even consider the difference in colors! I love the other anon's idea of the skulls. A Horde patch would be super neat too. (Unrelated but do you go to Blizzcon? I think an itabag meet would be amazing there.)

>> No.9798210

>>9798202
guess that solves the mystery of which bag style to go for, lol
bless anduin, it's strange how largely popular the game is yet there's such a massive lack of good character merch.

i haven't been/don't go to blizzcon, no! if i ever manage to finish this bag and i have some spare cash i'd love to have a meetup, though. i've always wanted to go!

I hope with the next WoW expansion he'll at least get one of those amazing figures since he's a major character. He's the king of Stormwind now for goodness sake.

A meetup would be awesome! The con is right next to Disneyland and there's a ton of shops/restaurants in the area so even if you can't attend the con surely there's a place nearby some of us could meet up. (If you're in Cali or were planning to go around that time)
