from what I remember (vaguely) people cared more about the material of the lace than anything. It had to be cotton and not polyester/synthetic. I just did a quick google search for beading lace and it all looks unsuitable for lolita desu.

Doesn't the term encompass everything that's machine embroidered? Some of it is okay, like if it's regular tulle lace (with netting back) or some venise lace ("water soluble" lace).

And then there's the stuff that's embroidery with super glossy threads on suuupeeer shiiinyyy organza backing material. Basically screams "plastic tacky shit" from a mile away. You definitely want to avoid that.

>when is raschel lace OK and when is it not?

Any lace that screams "plastic tacky shit" is definitely not okay.

You'll know bad lace when you find it. It looks like plastic, feels like plastic, won't drape and tries its best to lie straight, which makes anything made with it look wonky because the lace is trying to stick out straight from the dress itself.

If you need examples, Marble is the Japanese brand that still uses some pretty shitty raschel lace. There's a reason the brand is super unpopular among Western lolitas. Metamorphose is the brand that uses high-quality, decent raschel lace. It doesn't always look obvious in photos, but in person one dress will be the comfiest, softest shit and everything will drape gracefully. The other will be the stiffest, weirdest costume you ever wore and the lace will be darn itchy.

Btw, Bodyline's tulle lace, which should have been okay according to the newbie guide posted above, is actually very stiff and itchy, so sometimes you can't really go by blanket types of lace. Really the softer and more matte the lace, the better it is.

>> No.9798849

>>9798843
I'm just going to say Marble's raschel isn't all shitty. They use some very nice raschel lace on their princess sleeve blouses.

You would still want a lining. Lining isn't only for comfort or thin fabric issues; lining garments makes them stronger and more durable. Lining hides and protects seams, puts an extra layer between the dress fabric and whatever is underneath, adds stability and shape, etc. You can use a wide variety of materials to line depending on your needs.
The only reason for a brand not to line their dresses, especially when it's all of their dresses, not just their cutsews or summer collection or whatever, is to save time/money. For what Seraphim charges, it's kind of sad.
