Calling all lolitas/jfash people who wear wigs! Where do you get them from, how do you style them, what are your tips and tricks of the trade?

>> No.9797915

Also I should note that I created this thread to talk about wigs, so if you don't like wigs in lolita, this isn't the right place to talk about it. Some of us wear wigs, some of us don't, and since natural hair has different challenges to wigs I figured I'd make a thread.

The quality is a lot better with Maple wigs, and it's not like an extra $20 is a whole lot of money. Used to own one and it held up so well, despite me being at least the 3rd owner. I wish I hadn't sold it now, so I'm planning on buying another.
You might get lucky with Bodyline supposedly restocking, but I wouldn't bet on it.

That ringlet wig is 4800JPY (~$45) plus shipping, which would be like $20 max for EMS, even less for airmail. Maple is really affordable. Next time try doing a smidgen of research before you worry or talk out your ass.

I have three wigs from them and the quality is mixed. Two of the wigs style well and don't really tangle, but one of the wigs is such a pain in the ass and tangles so easily that I've reconsidered ordering from them again. The colors and styling are true to how they appear on their site. Price is pretty good for what you get.

Twintails usually don't work on regular wigs since if you part it the base of the wig gets exposed, and that's not cute. There are ways to get around this, like crisscrossing the hair in the back, but it looks a bit costumy. It works for cosplay, but not really for j-fash imo.
It's easier to just get one with twintail clips, there are a lot of really nice ones out there.

I don't understand why Arda is so popular with lolitas. I love them for cosplay, but I've tried them for lolita and it just doesn't look right. The wig caps are big and round and make my head look like a mushroom. Not cute. Plus most shades look very flat and "wiggy" since all the fibers are one color. They are definitely high quality and more matte than a lot of other brands, but you still can't escape the shininess.

Honestly, I actually prefer Dreamholic because they have nice color gradients, and the wig caps fit me right and don't make me look like an alien. I always have to soak them in fabric softener because of the shine, but I do that with every wig I own.

>> No.9804242

>>9802516
Have you treated your wigs before you wear them? I usually have mine treated with motions before I wear them to keep the fibers easy to brush out. The silky line doesn’t tangle as bad as classic but you also need to remove the shine if you don’t like that sheen they have. But if you treat your wigs and brush them after every wear they don’t tangle at all.

>> No.9804665

>>9804559
Usually 1 part softener to 3 parts water is good, I think that's the recommended ratio. It's not quite as effective on the wig styles that have smoother fibers, and those might need a little more softener. I let everything soak for around a week.

This is actually really untrue; arda is known for having nice wig color blends.

So many meh to bad wigs on amazon, but another cheap filler I like is the wig pictured. It's one of my favorite cheap wigs because it doesn't tangle and it's looks really cute worn. I don't recommend it in black, as the fiber is different the brown one and it tangles easier.

Alright, I was being too harsh and forgot that they do actually have a lot of nice color blends. I've tried several different shades, and I really like their blue-black and green-black mixes since those have a lot of depth to them. I feel like some of their other blends don't have this kind of dimension though, and look sort of flat unless you get close up. If you look through their gallery, I think you'll see what I mean by the "wiggy" look. Again, nice for cosplay but I really wouldn't recommend them for lolita.

Btw, I should specify that I did try one of their more "lolita-friendly" wigs, the Nina classic in dark brown. Definitely one of my worse wig experiences.

>> No.9805775

>>9805771
I have a few of their wigs and it really does depends on the color. Thankfully they give multiple variations of the colors rather then one blue, one blonde or one brown. I found that their sandstone color is actually pretty dimensional and their warm black actually has strands of brown in it to warm the color up. They also have two pinks that actually have blended reds into it. You can find quite a bit of options. The wigs I got, even for cosplay, that where one solid color where not hard to put demensional colors into. All you have to do is have a tad of patience and color them yourself or sew in some extra wefts of a darker or lighter color to get that effect. But Nina is a shit wig. I agree on that one.

Arda makes wigs for cosplays. You might have to get a short wig for the base and sew wefts into it for the braid part. There’s some that you can work with that are long, but if you don’t know how to cut and style a wig, I would leave that to people more practiced.

I have a brown twin tail wig from them that was maybe $7 and it’s fantastic. It’s not frizzed up over the last few years I’ve had it but it was somewhat shiny though that was an easy fix.

It’s pretty full and thick but looks natural. Unfortunately I need to restyle the curls but overall it’s my favorite even in comparison to my expensive wigs. It was maybe 3 years ago that I ordered it though, so I can’t say if their quality is still the same.

I have a wig styling question. I bought this wig recently and on me, it doesn't look much like the picture. I think I must have a small head or something, because the bangs are very long and the hime cut parts (I don't know if it has an actual name) almost completely cover the sides of my face. They're almost in my eyes.
I know how to cut bangs, but I was wondering if cutting some of the hime cut to the same length as the bangs would ruin the look of the wig. Would it? And are there any other, less drastic things I could do to keep this wig from overwhelming my face?

>> No.9812792

>>9812465
Wig bangs are meant to be cut to suit the shape of your face. You should bring it to a hairstylist if you're in doubt though, they have the training to cut a wig to frame your face right.

Is there a general consensus on who makes the most realistic looking synthetic wigs? I want to start wearing wigs daily so as to save time on styling and I don't want to get clocked easily. Also, are there any good tips on making wigs look more realistic or just things to look for? I already know about the baby powder/fabric softener for shine, having fake "roots", having different color fibers, getting lacefront and that trick with painting the part on the wig to make it look like your scalp, anything else? Thanks everyone!!

I wouldn't cut the side parts/hime parts all the way. It will look like a bowl cut from the front. You can always trim into them a little bit to make the overall bang broader. I cut my wigs at home and find it relatively easy. Just make sure you go slow and try to buff things out by cutting vertically when your finishing up .

What is this small waves/crinkle style called, and how do I achieve it?
