What's the absolute lightest way I could stuff a tail like this? My cosplay doesn't allow for much of a belt so the less this thing weighs the better. Ideally it would also stay relatively flexible.

>> No.9821613

>>9821589

Wireframe it out of the plastic boning people use for cheap corsets. It isn't quite as rigid as actual wire, though it's not as flexible as soft stuffing either.

The fur fabric will still weigh a ton, though, and the plastic wireframe won't be light as air either.

You're going to have to post the costume so we can help with the mounting because you're going to need more than a belt if you don't want this to drag on the floor

Dragging on the floor is fine desu, it's more about not murdering my hips after all day wear. I have to incorporate it into a bikini, pic semi-related. I would probably make it just long enough to not touch the ground but I want it to be as voluminous and fluffy as possible.

Did you brush your starting from the bottom or the top? If top, you're gonna have a bad time. All that makes a brush a wig brush is widely spaced teeth. You can try fabric softener, silicone sprays or careful cutting and straightening to fix the ends. Just make sure your wig is heat-safe. There's also a magic wig detangling brush I forget the name of that was popular a while back but it basically just slices through all the tangles without disturbing the hair.

Wefts + teasing is the only way I know how to, but I just looked up refs for this character, and some of her hair spikes curve up at the end. I think that is honestly more important than volume. Her spikes aren't crazy thick from what I'm seeing. (Also, your base looks a little short, though I assume that's because it is gender bend?)

I'd tease the roots a bit more, brush the fibers over top carefully to keep it looking smooth, and then carefully hairspray the tips, and flat iron them upward. You might need to thin them at the tips to do that. After you've got the right basic shape, G2B the hell out of the ends so it stays like that, and hairspray it all over again. IMO this is just one of those things that requires some tinkering and fiddling with to get it right. I'd also maybe section the hair off with clips first so that you can change the size of the spike you're working with by taking more or fewer fibers. IDK, maybe that's what you're already doing and if so I apologize. Good luck.

When you say paint the sole of a shoe, I hope you mean the side walls and not the actual sole. The sole is the bottom and if you try to paint it you'll lose grip on the surface.

Any paint jobs on boots will chip where the boot flexes and rub off where it comes in contact with the ground. To avoid this, many cosplayers use cloth boot covers rather than painting the boots. Just google boot cover and you'll find a couple dozen tutorials.

Is there any way to color the sole without something peeling/getting worn away?

>> No.9828711

>>9828653
Not really, but you can buy a sole rubber sheet in the color you want, cut your shape and glue that to the bottom of your shoes/shoe covers, it should hold up better than paint.

>> No.9828878

>>9828653

What >>9828711 said is pretty much correct. Shoe soles wear over time by design so no method of painting or dyeing is going to do more than the surface which will wear. If you want to do it cheaply you could use a sheet of fun foam and use contact cement to cover the sole, but I'm not sure how well that would hold up once walked on. The better option would be to call a local shoemaker/shoe repair store and see if they could put on soles that are the color you want.

>> No.9829045

Its really not important for more than the sides of the sole to be painted unless you really really need to get pics of the bottom of the shoes for some shot. There's no other cheap way to do it otherwise you have to get stuff custom made

I've never cosplayed before but I'm considering making a cosplay for someone of the flowerman/director from this music video: https://youtu.be/J0h8-OTC38I?t=3m18s

I figured I'll buy a helmet with a visor and hot glue a bunch of fake flowers on it. And for the rest I'm skimming through the fursuit tutorial. Would it look right if I make a fabric pajama-style jumpsuit with mesh/netting on the outside and fasten a shit ton of fake flowers all over it? I'm worried it wouldn't be the right shape/too loose. Also does anyone have any advice on how to sit down in something like this?

>> No.9829160

>>9829093
If the onesie/jumpsuit fabric is a thick enough material, you could probably just fasten them on directly. You're gonna want something pretty loose or else I'd imagine it's chafing hell... No stretch either or the flowers are gonna weigh it down. For easy sitting, remove the plastic stems as much as possible and find flowers that will easily flatten but won't be deformed like sunflowers, daisies, gerberas, etc for the butt area. Dahlias, chrysanthemums and hydrangeas could work too.

So, ive got a costume where I wear forearm peices over a coat. The coat is made for the costume, not used for anything else.

It works as-is, but over time during the day the forearm peices keep sliding down my arm or rotating out of position.

Im considering adding 4 snap buttons to the arm of the coat, allowing it to snap into the other ends of those connectors glued inside the forarm piece.

Is this a dumb plan? Should I be doing something else instead?

I think this is a little different than the character shown in the thread though. No clear SS logos or Nazi insignia anywhere. The easiest method is to simply use the same skirt pattern you are using, mark out the peplum on them and trace that. That way you can even sew the peplum directly to the skirt, then treat skirt and peplum as one and finish the dress according to your pattern’s directions. (Mainly mentioning this as both the dresses in your image have a waist shape, and if it has a back zipper it would be helpful for the peplum to not end up covering it up).

If you want just an overskirt, there’s a lolita version here
http://kittykanzashi.blogspot.my/2014/03/making-dress-bird-parade-lolita.html
You can see the pattern pieces about 2/3 down the page.

Of, if you want there to be folds of fabric to to the peplum, this girl explains her bustle overskirt:
http://koshka-the-cat.blogspot.my/2014/03/an-1880s-bustle-dress-construction_30.html
(The pattern is at the bottom, but I’d suggest reading through how she puts it together carefully).

Hope that helps.

You think a textured synthetic leather like this would be appropriate (it would definitely be eaiser to keep clean than suede)? It would take away a lot of the shine. What do you mean by a blindfold with eyeholes? One that's sheer enough to see through? The one I had just used double layered chiffon. Cut two shapes like pic related, sew the long edges, flip inside out, attach elastic while sewing remaining edges. To make sure the slope doesn't pucker, you have to snip little notches along the curve but chiffon loves to fray so drown it in fray stop.
Another option is attach a second slanted piece to the straight across blindfold.

I disagree. Sewing isn't something you can pick up in a day, and it can get pretty damn expensive, but with help basic sewing can be understood in a few months time.

Anon seems to be looking to have fun, not look like a professional model out the gate. With some comrades to help, I'm sure they can look great and grasp the basics by Midwest.

You have the right of it. I've always liked the idea of making things; helping build sets in theatre was great fun. I just have a really bad habit of losing motivation in things if I'm only working on them by myself. I figure if I can find an IRL friend or group within the next couple of weeks, I'll be able to put something at least somewhat-decent together in the two months and change between then and the convention itself.

Worst case, I could still just buy it. It's not like I couldn't afford it.

I'm trying to put together a Nozomi Tojo cosplay. And I wonder if it would be best to order a character wig, or if it would be better to buy a base wig and try to style it. Does anyone have any experience with wigs for this character. I just want to avoid getting something that looks terrible or will get tangled very quickly.

The point I'm trying to get at is people who are experienced at sewing will have trouble getting a full cosplay done from now to AMW, not to mention some person who still needs to learn.
Then, on top of learning to sew they still have to learn how to do makeup and wigs styling, and propwork.

for someone who is doing this for their first time that is going to be too much and they're going to end up slacking on some part of it.

>> No.9839927

>that is going to be too much
I understand that. But they never said what character they'd cosplay as either. You don't need props for a prop-less character nor expert styling if the hairstyle is something incredibly basic.

I'm not saying you're wrong in your point, but I'm going off the assumption that they're shooting for something easy or at least within the realm of reason which can also be something they could get advice on.

So I have a Space Dandy jacket (left) that I'd like to tweak to be more like the official screen version (right collage).
The biggest issue is that the bottom-right point isn't skewed like the show, but there are other minor issues plus it's a little low on my chest. At minimum I'd redo the point, but ideally I'd remove and remake the whole emblem.

My concern is it's really embroidered on there. I've never removed embroidery (though I have done my fair share of seam-ripping) but I understand it does a number on the underlying fabric. The jacket fabric is pretty dark, though, so it might not look too bad?
Is this something I should attempt or nah?

What's the best way to keep long ass wigs tangle free? I'm gonna be wearing two different ~150cm long wigs at a con and I don't want to die trying to keep them pretty. I've heard good things about mane n tail or straight up coating wigs with silicone lube sprays. The wigs themselves haven't been touched yet, so no detangling or straightening needed, just tangle prevention.

>> No.9840370

Keep it in a loose braid when you're not posing for serious photoshoots. Conditioning the wig prevents some tangles but anticipate that no matter what you do you'll need some maintenance when the day is over.

You could try, the embroidery is satin stitch over a felt applique which is easier to remove than if the yellow was sewn in. However. As long as it could cover the other D completely, you could sew a new D completely over it.

Then again as a cosplayer who has freaked out trying to work over such details in the past I'll warn you from personal experience that almost no one will notice the difference.

I'm doing my first cosplay this weekend and it involves almost a full body paint. I have all of my supplies and have done a few tests, but the question I have is about deodorant. Everyone knows that you have to wear deodorant at a con or else, but I'm not sure how to go about it. If I apply it first I'm not sure the paint will stick to me. If I apply it after it could rub the paint off or not work at all. I bought some mehron no sweat spray to put on before I start painting myself, but I'm not sure how effective it'll be. Does anyone have any body painting experience and can give some advice?

I'm using Mehron Paradise Paint and a regular roll on deodorant btw.

I've actually started using these things called 'sweat blocking wipes', I only use them for cons but you wipe them over your armpits/any other area you want (would not rec face tho) before you go to bed and leave it to dry overnight. I usually sleep with my arms raised up for maximum blockage. Your armpits are literally BONE DRY for about a week? only downside is you can't shave under them when using these wipes cause it makes your skin come out in a rash.

I just searched 'sweat blocking wipes' on ebay, the ones I use are by a brand called 'Perspi-Guard' which are UK based. They are great though, its sort of weird to adjust to at first because its just ridiculously dry but you don't need to wear deodrant or anything, in fact they encourage you not to as the effects of the deodorant could mess with the product already on your skin. Make sure to patch test it on the skin of your arm or something first just to make sure you don't have any allergies etc!

And for the no shaving thing, is it okay to shave and then use them right after? Or did you just mean don't shave after you've used them? Because as long as I shave the once beforehand I'll be good.

Replying to my own post here but I think I thought of something.

-sew in a fake part to a long wig along the back of the wig with wefts
-do a medium-thick braid on the left side underneath some wefts, braiding a sturdy wire or two into it
-tease the everloving fuck out of the rest of the hair and cover the braid and wire(s) to look like pic related to previous post
-rinse and repeat for other side

Aye? This is the best I can come up with.

For the shirt: I figured that a red button down shirt would work and I could just alter it by adding the white fabric to the sleeves and collar? I've also noticed that other women who also cosplayed as the character also had a white zipper going down the front as well. How would I go about doing this?

The Shorts

Now I thought that this would be the easiest part of the cosplay, just go to F21 and buy dark denim high waisted shorts but apparently I ran into a snag with that. Where would I be able to find blue high waisted shorts or would I have to try my hand at making my own shorts?

lil dilemma on a super buu or kid buu cosplay. Trying to decide between making the gloves and mask seperately and wearing a pink rashguard to show off more muscle without risk of bursting any seams (I'm not huge but fairly muscular, somewhere between kid and super) or just modding a morphsuit and making a mask from a stocking or some shit.
I'm very reluctant to use body paint so but any discussion of the other alternatives and pros and cons of each would be appreciated.

When I did FFXIII Lightning's Sacred Knight garb, I used metallic transfer foil for fabric, cut it in appropriate pieces and ironed them on. Painting over the gold for the intersections might make those spots look a bit weird imho, depending on paint and fabric used, so I'd say doing it in individual parts or painting it if you're good with that probably gives the best result.

If you have H&M in your area, assuming you do since you have f21, just the other day I was on their website and saw they had high waisted denim jeans.
Her shirt is more of a zip than a button down so I suggest starting with something like a tight polo as the base. Then just cut down the center and sew in the zip.

I'm sewing a bodice with princess seams out of tartan fabric and I'm going nuts trying to match both the vertical and horizontal lines on the front pattern pieces. It worked out quite well on the back (pic not mine, just to illustrate) but it's just not working out for the front no matter how I shift the pieces around. Is it simply not possible to match a check in a very curved pattern? I've tried googling tartan/check princess seamed dresses but most them didn't even attempt to match the lines.

break it up into pieces. It looks like it's 2 pauldrons with a bra-like chestplate and a collar.
so you'd need to make 3 pieces and figure out how you want to close up the main piece and attach them.

for armor with no visible straps, you can add a lot of velcro to the sewn portion and glue it to the backside of the armor by sewing it to webbing and then gluing that.
The bar idk how you would close it, but chances are you would have to make it so that it fits to your chest and then have some kind of fastener at the back.

Stuff like how to shape it and shit are covered by just searching what you need from evilted or kamui cosplay

Could you post a pic of what you have currently. I'm rather concerned about the handguard since that will be where failure will occur.

Yes, if you got some fat block of foam it should be good as long as you do not make the stock too thin.
