People tend to not think very far though, if it isn't easily achievable or outright handed to them, they'll throw on whatever and "make do" while looking sloppy and silly, and then whine because they're "new" and "poor" if given suggestions on how to improve.

Right, but just because Japan doesn't have that many people who fit the bill doesn't mean it's lacking in the west. I think it would be a great idea for a western indie brand to start something to compliment the other styles out there. And I do like a lot of Boz, they're one of the only brands making menswear that I really like. Their sizing would be lacking for big bois, though.

Yeah, but there's nothing stopping a Japanese designer from trying it first and putting it under that umbrella. I think it would be a popular look in Japan as well, just the sizing would have to be tailored a little different. Plus size options are becoming more in more common in Japan as well, though; if Physical Drop can be pretty much 100% plus size then maybe Boz could do a sub line for men.

How about the fact there's no real demand for it?
Sure, there are a few plus sized guys that want to wear ouji or aristocrat but nowhere near enough to justify a small brand catering to them. Boz and the other brands are already operating in a niche scene, plus sizes are a niche within a niche and while many people on social media cry about how much they want brand, they don't actually put their money where their mouth is so at the end of the day it's not worth it.

>> No.9826786

>>9826780
I never discredited China's role, but one of the biggest complaints keeping more westerners from buying brand is sizing. I've heard a lot of people say they'd buy more Boz if they could fit it, and people for years said they'd love to wear VM if they fit it and then went to alternatives. There are a lot of reasons VM went under but sizing was a big part of it; even rumors of small sizing kept people from trying and when the closure was announced people were saying this stuff left and right. Alternatively, westerners eat Meta up because they know the sizing can go very large on most pieces.

tdlr: a Japanese designer could try it. If it's not successful, oh well, but what the fashion needs is more innovation. No harm in trying something new and seeing if it ends up working.

I got a dress commissioned from one of the top theater seamstresses in my region because she's a family friend and does great work, and really elaborate peices at that.
It was the most money I had ever spent on something that looked absolutely atrocious on me.

When a custom piece will be 300+ with no precedent that it'll turn out well, it's just an easier pill to swallow that you'll just never have nice things like that.

nayrt. People bought them. I know at least one who owns several of the dresses with three hearts, half were bought on release date direct from Baby. You still sometimes hear of anons seeking size L for certain dresses.

The real issue isn't that people didn't buy them, it's that there's not enough people who buy them. People are sincere and do put their money where their mouth is. It's just that this group is really small, and Baby needed hundreds of customers for each sizing in order for it to not be a flop (plus to be honest with you, their size L was barely bigger than their size M, so it's not like it made a huge difference between size M and size L). Boz is small enough to begin with, if they only needed a few people to buy their larger stuff they might still be able to make a profit over selling a tiny handful of people some larger clothes.

I'll say up front I have no horse in this race, though. I didn't pay a lot of attention to Boz before and probably won't after this; as you can tell from my choice in following btssb I'm pretty much a sweet lolita.

>> No.9826884

Western fatties just like to virtue signal about how Japanese brands are oppressing them with their *tiny* sizes and don't have any real interest in actually buying the clothes that they're complaining about. Most of the people whining about VM being too small don't even wear things that remotely resemble VM, and probably wouldn't buy from VM even if they released larger sizing. I doubt Boz would be any different.

You can already get custom made pieces from taobao or F+F, they actually do offer a service like this.

This is the opposite of how you break through in fashion. You want a new style? Don't wait for brands to make it, create it and wear it yourself. I'm not saying this out of spite either; lolita fashion started by girls wearing it on the streets because they wanted to, and it was picked up by brands later, not the other way around.
You want to see king-kei being a thing? Help your boyfriend/husband wear it, and wear it well. If you succeed, others will want to follow suit. There's no "advocating" needed here, just creativity and resourcefulness, like was said before.
