It's a very vague question, but how do I get into makeup when I fuck everything up whenever I try? It's not as if I have a weird eyeshape (pic is me) but I see these insta hoes with actual visible eyeshadow and eyeliner, but I can't do it (not that I want to be an insta hoe). Since my eyelashes touch my eyebrows, mascara just prints onto my eyebrows and eyelids, you can never see my eyeshadow as it just sucks back into my eyelid, and eyeliner prints on the inside of my lid whenever I look up. Are these normal problems and I'm just being retarded or??

It seems as though you have slightly hooded eyes, anon. Try looking up some hooded eye makeup tutorials. I had the same issues as you: eyelashes imprinting on the top of my socket, not seeing my eye makeup, etc. I figured out my eye shape and bam! Things got way better. Just a suggestion but I really do think you may have slightly hooded eyes.

Look up hooded eye makeup tutorials. You will find a style that suits your eye shape. I figured out I can't follow as many tutorials from some beauty gurus bc my eyes are round af and don't suit almond shaped looks. Although this tutorial from Lisa Eldridge really suits every eye shape imo https://youtu.be/bFTtbgNdEoI I would find eyeliner looks before eyeshadow, once you figure out the liner shape that works for you, eyeshadow will follow.

That sounds worrying imo, did your derm not prescribe any topicals like a retinoid? Antibiotics aren't a long term solution from what I know, you shouldn't be on them for too long. At least that's what my derm told me.

I've been on retenoids for a while now (like ever since my acne started) and they weren't really cutting it by themselves, in combination with the antibiotics they seem to be working a lot better but I'm pretty sure as soon as I stop taking my antibiotics all my progress will be undone. My acne only started after I left for college 3yrs ago I've literally tried everything from radically changing my diet and lifestyle to Korean skincare to the cavewoman method and I still have what would be considered moderate to severe acne... At this point I should just find a derm willing to put me on accutane so I can end this for good

In the past I have mostly bought big brand name make up for eye shadow palettes.

Like urban decay, too faced, and sugarpill.

I want to branch out but I'm not sure where to start.

I looked through devinah cosmetics and melt cosmetics. I got recommended some k beauty stuff but I've only tried etude house.

I tend to like bolder colors and would also love to find a good pink shade that actually shows up on my olive skin tone that is sometimes pale and sometimes dark because I tan easily.

What do you guys recommend and what are some more off hand brands like the ones I mentioned?

Was also thinking about getting this:

I'm very pale and I'm looking for a very natural looking foundation with a light to medium coverage.
Seen a few of these cushion thingies on yesstyle, but are those any good and do you think they will be pale enough for me?
I recently bought nyx colordrops in alabaster, color is spot on, but it looks like absolute shit on my skin, it's really unnatural and gross looking.
I don't have wrinkles, blemishes, almost no scarring, no dry patches or a hairy face so I don't know why it looks so horrble, probably cause it's a cheap product?
It makes me sad cause finding a good color is so hard when you have very light skin.
Tried all kinds of applying techniques too, several primers, special foundation brushes, sponges, nothing can make it look nice.

Lots of those Korean cosmetics look really lovely so I'm dying to try.

I like the Fenty match sticks (I'm pale and cool toned and I'm the shade linen) and the hourglass foundation stick (I wear the shade blanc). The hourglass one is a better fit for me because it's cooler toned, but it's pricey. I like stick foundations because it's really easy to apply foundation only to problem areas or blend it out.

As for the foundation looking bad, do you have dry skin? I have that issue as well and apart from being really diligent about applying moisturizer, what helps me most is avoiding anything with a matte finish, because those accentuate every little flaw and dry out my skin. Stick to dewy things (Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer in Cameo if you're cool toned or Porcelain if you're warmed toned) or things you can sheer out.

Just to be sure, roners are supposed to remove any extra dirt and grime your regular cleasers have missed right? I don't wear makeup, but I apply lots of oils and sunscreen.

Can they also help to clear up hyperpigmentation/dark marks/scars?
If so, can anyone suggest a good yet inexpensive toner? Like just to start out?
I have oily, acne prone skin if that helps. Buuut, I can also get eczema skin patches from time to time.

I was thinking of getting that popular Thayer's Witch Hazel Rose Water toner but Idk if Witch Hazel dries out the skin.

>> No.9833312

>>9833282
Toners that work for hyperpigmentation and other problems will have ingredients in them to address these problems. And witch hazel by itself shouldn't dry out your skin. Some toners include alcohol, which does. Thayer's does not. I'm a fan and actually use it to wash my face in the morning. It cuts through the morning grease. I've seen smaller bottles on sale, so maybe try it? They make an aloe one too.

>>9832379
For Western brands, I really like the Maybelline Fit Me Dewy. L'Oreal does a good job making paler shades.

Also, I tap my foundation on with my fingertips, concentrating on the center of my face, then hit it up with a damp beauty blender to get the excess. Maybe try that?

>> No.9833589

>>9833564
Go for something 2 shades darker and slightly more grey (it needs to mimic a shadow on your face). Make sure to build the color up and blend the edges well.

There's always the option of using foundation. Find a foundation that matches you well, and then choose a contour shade from the same range (once again two shades darker and cooler). They'll blend well into each other and foundation is harder to over do with contouring. It'll look better to have the same coverage and finish across your whole face.

Pore strips can be satisfying, but I've heard they enlarge your pores if you do them too often. The little black dots on your nose are most likely sebaceous filaments. I use BHAs for these (gentle chemical exfoliater) to take care of them. Oil cleansers are good for this too.

I have dehydrated/oily skin and I constantly change my routine but this is what I have right now:

1st Cleanser: kose softymo deep cleansing oil
2nd Cleanser: Cerave foaaming cleanser
Actives: TO Retinol .2% (just got this the other day), Melazepam Azelaic Acid, Stridex in the red box, Stratia Soft touch (I do not use all of these on one day, I generally use them when I feel the need to otherwise my skin would melt off)
FTE: Missha Intensive FTE
Toner: Kikumasamune Sake Skin Lotion
Essence: Scinic All in one honey w/ TO niacinamide
Serum: Stratia liquid gold
Moisturizer: Beauty of joseon cream w/ TO rosehip oil
Sleeping pack: Sulwhasoo overnight mask

My favorites are probably the liquid gold and the kikumasamune lotion. Both are great for keeping a hydrated and moisturized skin barrier!

Toners even out the skin. If you're oily you'll want a toner for "combo" skin. If you're skin is dry they make moisturizing toners. I find that it helps "set" the skin for the products you apply afterwards. It also helps to remove any residue left by your cleanser. Yes, like all skincare it's a combination of genetics + environment + finding what works for you. Some people are fine with just washing with water because they're genetically blessed, some people are fine in dry climates but pizza faced in humid ones, some people react to hard water or aircon at work. So choose products to target whatever skin issues you have, and don't introduce them all at once in case you react.

Ok yall, I have a question. I have to paint my face white for a cosplay and I'm having incessant difficulties. The paint either turns out uneven, or you can see every fucking pore and fine line i have from several kilometres away. I don't think I have time to buy something new but I'll consider it. Currently I have Laikou color correction foundation which is not actually white but a very light ivory, stargazer white foundation and snazaroo white creme paint. Please, Lord, help me I have 3 weeks until the convention and I'm going to die.

Are you using a primer? Most white foundations aren't meant to be worn on their own--stuff like Manic Panic's white foundation are designed to be mixed with a regular foundation so the texture tends to be off. A primer will help, and so will moisturizer. If you still can't get it to work, I'd look into Ben Nye and other stage makeup.

>> No.9845425

>>9845384
The basic anti-aging skincare routine I'd recommend is:

1. Makeup remover if you wear it (oil cleanser or wipes)
2. Gentle facial cleanser
3. Exfoliant (chemical is generally better than physical, but both are fine)
4. Anti-aging serum (retinol/niacinamide/vit C are going to be good ingredients to look out for)
5. Eye cream
6. Moisturizer
7. Sunscreen

Depending on what your routine is like now, I'd go for cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen first, in that order. If you want to learn more about exfoliants/actives and serums, I'd recommend you take a look at the skincareaddiction subreddit! They have a bunch of resources for beginners to skincare. If you tell us more about your skin and what you use currently (if anything), I could also give you some more specific product recommendations!

I like pore strips. Love them actually. You'll hear people claim they make your pores bigger and stretched out but there's no actual documented evidence of that.

If your skin is sensitive or you really hate the process of ripping off the sticky pore strip, you can use a mask. There are Dead Sea mud masks by Pure Body Naturals and Aria Starr Beauty that both get rave reviews. I have not tried them myself though.

You could try using the masks in between pore strips (which I use once ever 1-2 weeks) to really keep 'em clean, since I assume you're not wearing makeup like most ITT and thus don't have the option of just covering them up.

Toner balances the pH of your skin after you cleanse. You're stripping the skin of it's natural oils when removing the debris and bacteria with cleanser so that's why you tone after cleansing and before moisturizer.
It will not help with hyperpigmentation or scars. You need a microdermabrasion treatment or microneedling. Either you should consult a dermatologist and esthetician to get results in that area.
If you have acne&oily skin you should try a toner with alcohol, but that also might be too much if you have eczema. I would research the toners that are in your price range and targeted for your problems and go from there.
Witch hazel can dry your skin out if you don't moisturize after you apply the toner. To help clear up your acne balancing the pH of your skin is a key step you might be missing to treating and managing your skin condition. Always remember!
1.Cleanser
2.Toner
3.Moisturizer

Does anyone have any advice for trouble with redness? I have rosacea and keratosis pilaris that I've been teased for my entire life. I wouldn't say it's severe but it's bad enough to really hurt my self esteem. I've been to the dermatologist a few times as a teenager for it but none of the lotions or face wash they gave me worked. I'm sure you know, but the rosacea will never go away, there's no cure for it. Your best bet is to keep it at bay. I wear a full face of makeup everyday, but if you don't want to do that - try Urban Decay's Self-Adjusting Primer. It's helped on days I feel lazy. Be aware though that it might oxidize and turn you orange. Try a sample at Sephora first.

As for the KP this is also just another thing to keep at bay. KP Duty is a great product, but pricey. Try Lush's King of Skin body butter as a cheap alternative.

Unfortunately, products moisturizing enough for dry skin that don't clog pores aren't the cheapest. I use Mizon snail cream, which works really well, but you might be a heavier cream for night time. I like Caudalie as well.

Aloe Vera is for oily skin, so I don't recommend it. For dry skin you should really use oil cleansers, as they really do help. Also, a shit ton of moisturizers. They should be light, but layer them.

With dry skin, it's a bit of a what works for you, because some people have flakey dry, some are combination, and some aren't actually dry but dehydrated. You have to figure out how your skin reacts. Like mine breaks out when it gets too dry, and develops patches.

Go super basic - like Cerave or Cetaphil moisturizer, pure aloe gel. If you like Korean skin care some of the snail based moisturizers are ok. Don't use coconut oil, it's very comedogenic if you are at all acne prone.

Generally the formulation of a moisturizer also tells you how it is on your skin - lotions and gels sink in, creams and ointments sometimes sit on top a bit more which may be useful if you're finding your skin is losing moisture quickly

nayrt and this is a shot in the dark because I don't know what your diet and vitamin regimen are like. but sometimes chin/jaw acne comes from B vitamin deficiencies. I used to get really bad breakouts in just that specific area, just gigantic zits that would take forever to come to a head (if they ever would at all), and B vits helped a lot. it's easy to get depleted - stress, hormones, certain meds. if you're not already taking a B complex supplement, maybe try it for a few weeks. they're water soluble vitamins, your body just pees out the excess, so it can't hurt to try (unless you're taking another drug that interacts with it, but you can check for that on drugs dot com or a similar site). the pills smell nasty and will make your pee bright yellow though, so be ready for that.

What kind of eyeliner? Assuming you mean liquid and your goal is some simple eyeliner, I recommend getting a brush tip applicator. Physicians formula 2-in-1 eyebooster is amazing (get ultra black). If not that one, any sort of eyeliner with a pen tip applicator. Do not tug on your eyes, I recommend getting a good mirror and raising your head while looking down versus trying to get as close to a mirror as possible. When you have a pen applicator, all you have to really do is rest the brush tip along your lashline and it'll stamp. Continue doing that until you form an even line. When you get better you'll be able to do this while looking straight forward in the mirror.

If you mean pencil eyeliner that's even easier: make sure your pencil is sharpened and dot along your lashline, do NOT create one heavy continuous line. You can smudge out the dots so they form a line above your eye while not looking too heavy. You can build it up to where you need it.

Look for Lisa Eldridge liner tutorials on YouTube if you need more help, she more or less mentions these tips in her videos. Hope that helps!

If you're just after a natural line I suggest lining while following your eye shape. Start one third from your inner corner (this probably depends on your eye shape but my liner always looks terrible starting right from the inner corner) with a gentle thin line (you can thicken later on). Extend a little horizontally once you hit your outer corner then fill in the line from that extended line back towards your liner around midway on your lid. Fill in and thicken the line depending on your preference.

For eyeliner it depends on what you want, if you want a graphic not natural look, liquid is the best to use. If you want it to look as natural as possible, go for pencil. You can do a cute little wing with liquid eyeliner for a natural look too but you will always notice liquid eyeliner is there. Pencil is good at just defining eyes if that's your preference. I'm a guy, I don't wear any makeup. My skin gets oily really fast. I used to wash it at work during lunch, because my face was so wet. I started trying out some products but none were really helpful in that regard except three.

Every morning and evening I cleaned my face with Cetaphil and then put on Noreva Aquareva as moisturising cream, let it sink in for about 1-2 minutes and then use Noreva Zeniac LP Fort. This one really does the trick, I don't get any oily face at all, when I have it on my face. I never believed in magical cremes but that one is great but it's kinda expensive, I think.

Aquareva is 40ml for about 12.-€ and Zeniac LP Fort is 15.-€ for 30ml. Anyone knows about those two products but got a cheaper product that might be even better? I love the results of them but the price is kinda pushing.

Should I add another product for better results? I'm 29.

I used to have nice skin but since 22 (I'm 26 now) my skin has turned to shit. It coincided with when I moved to Japan and I tried to fix it there but nothing worked (tried a bunch of Japanese products) until I moved back to the US.

Now that I'm in the states my skin is still pretty crappy, but not as bad. Any ideas for what could've caused this/any products that may fix it?? I'm tired of having acne all the time, I thought that was just a teen thing.

Hello, I'm a person who has hooded eyelids (similar to you) and I also had the same problem with eyeliner not sticking well.

First of all, I'm assuming that you do let the eyeliner dry FIRST before even looking up. Second: Nyx liquid liner does miracles for me. When you do a winged liner, do not go towards the corner of your eyebrow but rather aim lower - towards the top of your ear. That way the eyeliner doesn't get swallowed by your lid. (It does for me otherwise).

If you're not working with a primer yet - please do so! It makes a world of difference and really sets your makeup. I use the more expensive Urban Decay one but I don't think that's necessary when there are cheaper variants around. I'd also suggest putting primer first, then a nude eyeshadow and THEN your eyeliner. It might just be that you have watery eyes and I find that putting primer + eyeshadow really makes your eyeliner last longer.

As for your hooded eyelids and eyeshadow, you need to work your eyeshadow up towards your brow bone. Don't go all the way and touch your eyebrows but definitely work some eyeshadow above your crease.

My eyelids also typically swallow eyeshadow and I'm no pro by any means but putting more eyeshadow towards my eyebrows has helped a LOT.

Not sure what you can do about your mascara though... Other than really letting it dry first. If I look up my lashes also touch brows/eyelid but it doesn't seem to be imprinting. My only advice would be to use a different mascara (possibly) and let it dry. Or in your case, even if I wouldn't recommend it to most, try a waterproof mascara.

Sorry for tldr; I hope it's a bit helpful!

Is it dry and flaky? What products are you currently using?

I recently added Corsx snail 69 with my Ordinary's Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% and even after a particularly bad stressed-induced-tearing-my-skin-apart, overnight the redness was almost entirely gone. That with a vitamin c serum has noticably started evening out the damage and texture.

Most people seem to find niacinamide drying but I don't. I will say that while acids never even tingled for me and maybe it's just the brand(haven't tried niacinamide in anything else I don't think) , it does sting a bit if I get it over broken skin.

Seconding something with tea tree oil. I couldn't stand Cetaphil cleansers either. Immediately my skin would get so oily, thick with grease but diluting some tea tree oil afterwards and swabbing it on helped a ton. I use Cerave cleanser now which isn't as greasy and switch between diluted tea tree oil and Thayer's witchhazel with rose water toner now depending on weather and humidity since that directly effects if my face will be an oilslick or a desert.
I don't have any recommendations for products with tto in it though.

I'm currently using Neutrogenas Pink Grapefruit series. Wash + moisturizer. Been trying to incorporate a toner, but they all seem to dry me out, even the ones that are for dry skin. (So if anyone has a good rec for a toner for dry, red skin I'm all ears). I don't tend to get flaky, only during a few months in winter.

I have heard good stuff about vitamin c, but what would be the best product to have it in? The moisturizer? A serum perhaps? And thanks for the rec about ordinary, gonna check it out!

Avoiding the Lime Crime drama earlier in the thread, has anyone tried their diamond dew lid toppers? I got one for my birthday and used it twice, and both times I've felt like the bigger pieces of glitter are getting stuck in my eyes when I try to take it off. Any advice on how to avoid this, or should I avoid the product altogether? I do really like the way it looks.

I don't think toners are necessary, really. If you have a good cleanser and moisturizer. I originally bought mine for shaving and just ended up liking how it feels to use after cleansing and before everything else but I would def avoid Thayer's if dryness is a problem. Good for me as it gets more humid and hot out, but I won't use it in the winter myself.

I use Melano CC for vitamin c but I've only tried TO's vitamin c and this one. The texture is easy to spread, only lightly oily but sinks in fast and I don't feel like it just 'sits' on top of my skin which is a big deal to me in products. Isn't gritty(like The Ordinary's, can't stand it so i hardly gave it a chance). Smells pleasant. I like it enough that I've decided to stop using AHA/BHAs for awhile because in nearly a year of using them, they just don't do anything for me. Not bad things either, just nothing while so far vitamin c has faded dark spots from scarring and has helped smooth out the damage from years of compulsive picking, construction work baking in the sun without sunscreen and the scars from a cat who was sleeping on my face one night when the neighbor's decided it'd be a great idea to set off fireworks. It's no miracle by any means but my impatient ass appreciates even vaguest results that don't take a year.

I read good things about Timeless Vit C with freulic acid. Same with NuFountain® C20®+Ferulic Vitamin C Serum(which does not have vitamin e unlike most it seems) but you have to keep it in the fridge as vitamin c serums are prone to oxidation and have a shelf life. My Melano CC hasn't had that problem so far but it could just be the packaging helping keep air out. I probably should, I'm just lazy.

What do you mean by better results? I dont think you need to stop showering twice a day, it isn't a bad thing unless you use inappropriate products (like very drying etc). You should wash your face in the morning and in the evening. The morning wash doesnt have to be as thorough as the evening one, though that depends on the cosmetics you use before going to bed.

I agree. My mom has hormone imbalances that lead to a myriad of problems down the line. She uses medicinal herbs (supplied by her acupuncturist - still not sure if that actually does any good but the herbal teas certainly help her). But that's a band-aid on the hoover dam. Devote your savings to this cause. Although it seems superficial, this is the sort of thing that can definitely have an impact on her mental/emotional state ESPECIALLY after everything she's gone through. You're a wonderful partner for looking out for her like this, I hope you two can find peace in the near future.

Did a super quick and rough swatch, they definitely do tend towards the sheer side like the other anon said, but honestly there is a decent pigment in a few of the colours and I dig it, so... (it's actually nice to have some sheerer and some stronger colours in a palette). And for someone who is super pale, how strong do you really need a pigment to be?

Could someone give me some recommendations for gel facial moisturizer? I've been using Clean & Clear but it hasn't been working too well for me recently.

I developed cystic acne in my early 20's, and ever since any creamy lotion (not sure the proper term, but anything other than gel it seems) causes me to break out. My skin was doing really good for two weeks with no breakouts, but my skin got really dry due to the sudden heat and I put on some non-gel lotion and today I woke up with a fresh breakout.

At what point should I go to a dermatologist for dry skin?

Around my nose, forehead, eyebrows and hair line it's rather painful because my skin just chunks off in hundreds of flakes constantly. It didn't used to be like this, it's only been the past ~6 months or so. Before that my skin was totally normal.

There's been no change in my pretty healthy diet I can identify and I've tried various routines, including no routine to see if it was something I'm allergic to or whatever. The skin has only gotten worse though.

The day before yesterday was bizarre because for once, I woke up and my skin was actually pretty normal and only slightly dry, not flaking like crazy. But for the life of me I can't figure out if I did anything different the previous day to cause that.
