>Due to inexperienced and unprofessional staff, there were many notable tech mistakes throughout. The cosplay contest was brought to a complete stop multiple times by incorrect audio cues. Reportedly, the concerts were also plagued by poor audio handling.

>There were multiple events and features of the convention that were promised to pre-order attendees on the Anime Matsuri site and which quietly disappeared from the site without remark, such as the anime viewing rooms. It is my opinion that they also literally lied about certain guest appearances, such as the cosplayer Aliga. They said that she would be there on their website, but at the convention itself they said that she was unable to obtain a visa. Aliga reportedly never mentioned anything to her social media followers about going to Anime Matsuri.

>To cap it all off, the closing ceremony was held in the general assembly, which is the same room that the ticket-restricted Hentai Festival was held. The closing ceremony was not ticket-restricted, despite the fact that it should be projected as busier than HFest. In actuality, the closing ceremony crowd was so sparse that the staff opened up the superpass seats to general attendees. It is my opinion that they did this in order to give the appearance in precisely-angled photographs that the ceremony was heavily attended. In reality, the general assembly was vastly empty.

>They also did not deign to ask for suggestions or address any complaints as they did last year. Instead, they had very controlled questioning such as "what was your favorite part" and "what do you want to see more of".

Here's my prediction:

Half (or more) of the people in Artist Alley won't return. They'll make up for some of their loss by signing up for MGD19 (which will probably be 3 days long by next year; they're growing so fast). A lot of vendors will pull out as well since I heard sales were down (except for the scale figure merchants, they always make a killing regardless). John will probably have alienated Meta by then, so expect to see nothing but Taobao brands in fashion square next year. (Surprised he doesn't go for Bodyline, seems like he and Mr. Yan have a lot in common.) The Evangelion people will never let him near their stuff again, and they'll spread the word, so don't expect special exhibits in 2019. Half of his groupies will bail (I think I know which ones). Half of the cars won't come back either because of those issues. So, basically, expect half the con they had this year (or less).

We gotta run this guy out the same way we ran Comits out.

The dude is an actual Nazi activist who has worked with Richard Spencer in the past. He wears an SS uniform to cons in Texas in hopes of getting exactly the reaction he got at AM--laughter and acceptance from stupid ass weebs and indifference from the people in charge.

He and people like him are trying to combat the rising "fuck Nazis" sentiment in the US with "see? Nazis are actually fun and hilarious and not a threat at all! LOLOLOL WOLFENSTEIN"

Apparently at this point fat anime con weebs are the only people retarded enough to buy into it.

one picture doesnt convince me, if you have more evidence by all means i will be convince.
>He and people like him are trying to combat the rising "fuck Nazis" sentiment in the US with "see? Nazis are actually fun and hilarious and not a threat at all! LOLOLOL WOLFENSTEIN"
the inherent joke is that nazis are evil and is out of place at an anime con. the humor comes from germany being courted by its evil nazi past. are you offended by seeing hitler in other forms of media where he is bashed?
>Apparently at this point fat anime con weebs are the only people retarded enough to buy into it.
you bought into the rage and fervor

Everyone of their "fans"claiming AM didn't want to directly compete with Akon, I got news for you...

The GRB can't force you to move if you have a signed contract. What they can do is offer you a big fat discount as incentive. The face that AM moved means that the discount was that good. It's also highly unlikely the only option was June, the weekend after Akon. They picked that BECAUSE they think they can directly compete. They've had a massive hate boner for AKon for years because Akon is a bigger show.

I just hope this plus the continued boycott might be enough to finally kill this dumpster fire.

Is John that stupid though? Yes he's worked hard to trick the general public/Japanese guests into believing his bullshit numbers and even more bullshit hype, but deep down he has to know that in reality they can't come close to competing with A-kon.

It's like an extreme application of fake it til you make it, except they're now 12 years running of not making it.

There will probably be some continuing to limp along for as long as the incentive/rebate lasts. If anything, a year where you don’t have to pay for your venue and rentals is one of the best times to try and clash horns. It’s easier to break even if you invest less.

yes, rehearsed a shitty dance routine that was poorly executed (no one smiling, watching others to remember moves, weren't sharp and kept pulling up their shorts/fixing their tops) for the wait for the hentai panel. they made it a bit of a sexy dance, each "babe" had a little solo in it and they were almost all the same. they looked like amateurs, to simply put it. if the girls were cuter it would've been doable, but there were 2 okay girls, the rest were ehh

they threw two big fake tits around to the crowd (like beach balls) and had $10 tentacle arms from amazon and would run up to people and touch their face with it (all of this was waiting in line for the hentai panel, so like 30 minutes)

that was all i really saw of them for the weekend, granted i imagine they were at all the 18+ events but me and bf/friends only went to the hentai panel (and left 30 mins in after it started 30 mins late cuz cringe audience)

I mean they were all amateurs. None of them had professional training or anything, they just watched dance videos off youtube and learned them that way. They also knew that they weren't great, and I will say that part of that is because AM never gave them a proper place to practice or rehearse. It was just their first year, so they might improve.

the GRB is huge, and it was kinda tight saturday in peak hours (like lunch or late afternoon) but died down pretty quick (and when i say tight, i mean the small walkways between booths in the exhibit hall, especially artists alley ((dead stops sometimes)) other than that it was fine)

A little of both. I don't doubt AM has decreased in numbers but also the George R Brown is so big that when a pic is taken, depending on where the pic was shot and the traffic it can seem empty. Just something I observed going to the GRB many times including events that weren't AM.

There really wasn't a lot of people, other than early-mid afternoon, but still not as many as before. Many of the pictures that AM took this year to show how ""crowded"" it was were in spots that were more cramped walkway-wise than in years past. The dealers' room and AA were a lot more scrunched together than they were in previous years, which is what made it seem packed. It makes it seem like they laid it out that way on purpose to make it seem crowded, but I'm not sure about that. Everywhere else was pretty desolate, however. The third floor is usually full of people walking around, and it seemed pretty empty in comparison to previous years. There were a lot more con-goers hanging out in the pool area of the Marriott this year than in previous years, too.
