We've talked about it, and insta anon contributed some suggestions a ways back. If there's a way for the two to be combined, that would be to most relevant to fandom at this point.

I'm still of the opinion that if people want a new list, use people from Instagram and reexamine the old people on the list to create a hall of frame tier. The list is about current cosplayers, but I think it's worth it to also be aware of the best past cosplayers for reference and inspiration and such.

Colossalcon or hell, Katsu I guess? I wasn't expecting this year to be as big as it was. When I ran Otakons shoot a year and a half ago it was just fucking sad how tiny the homestuck crowd was.

Thank you to everyone who attended the funeral service of Crunchy Anon last weekend.
After a long period of declining activity, Crunchy's demise was hardly surprising to anyone, and anyone who might call themselves a survivor will agree that it was for the better. Crunchy's life was as impactful as it was pointless, as short as it was rich. Thank you to those who helped send Crunchy off, in person or in spirit. We toast as much to you as to the deceased, for without you, Crunchy would never have been to begin with.

He will not be missed.

Mostly good, you can tell the all went the same darker shade of grey for facepaint. Horns mostly look good except for Rufioh, who also has weird ears? And idk why Damara chose her horns to go like that. The teeth on Cronus are also a very odd choice. From what I can see, that looks like a pretty nice kurloz though. NAYRT, but I'm kind of warming up to them? I feel like the fandom very rarely exercised the potential of a completely alien life form that initially just looks very human. I understand that it is hard to carry out (especially in cosplay, for obvious reasons), but I wish we could get more weird, uncanny-valley -y troll physiology and anatomy in the fandom. In that aspect I think these kinda teeth are the closest to that so far.

Cheerleader effect definitely works best when people are thin- at first glance, i was like 'hey they all look pretty good! That's a nice group', but the more i looked the more i found i didn't like. If one of them was heavier, most people would be drawn to nit-pick that person, and why as a chubby cosplayer myself, i get nervous about being The Fat Kid in the group.
The nice thing with homestuck cosplay is that so many of the outfits dont focus on being thin or hourglass shaped. Headcanons are treated differently because there's no canon weights really.

Basically, I agree with both of you. Yes, being thin Helps that group for sure, but with homestuck its not the be-all end-all.

Like every other person in the fandom who've ever drawn sexual fanart featuring the kids/post scratch trolls. Even then, it's not CP if it doesn't feature actual children.
>adults lusting over 15yos isn't pedophilia
I'm pretty sure what they actually said was something more like "adults being attracted to people who look like young adults (because they're post-pubescent), ignorant of the fact that these people are fifteen year olds, isn't pedophilic", which, you know, it isn't.

People keep calling Roach a pedo for the same reason people keep shittalking literally any bnf ever; because they're popular and well known and people don't like them. Which, again, is fine. You don't gotta like anyone, but pretty soon these kids figured out that calling these bnfs pedos was an easy way to get others to stop liking them as well, because no one wants to defend an accused pedo, regardless of how nonexistant the proof actually is.

To draw an unfair comparsion, HSCG has been pretty damn unsuccessful campaigning against Captain Crunch Cosplay, because as it turns out no one else actually cares if her cosplay is shit and she's dishonest about her process, because for the most part she's a chill person to interact with. If we'd just realized sooner that we could dig in her AO3 kudos for some Homestuck fics featuring smut, compiled it in a call out post where we call her a pedo, and link to some deactivated blogs for "further proof", she'd be but a memory by now.

and like half of the things theyre demanding payment for arent even necessary. you don't need a dressform that fits you exactly (and you can make one with duct tape, plastic wrap, and stuffing) if you actually measure yourself before cutting, you don't need a new wig because the one you have is fine, you don't need lace or beads at ALL, and you don't need an embroidery machine to hem OR to embroider

>> No.9819004

>>9818935
If you think your product isn't great because it was made for cheap, why would you try to sell it for not cheap? I don't know if I can word this right but if you want to sell something at a high price you have to get the materials that make it worth that price. Also, you don't need $800+ to make what the positive examples made. Maybe $200, $300 if you really go all out, which is far from unattainable if you save up or spread out expenses. In fact, this costume would only be marginally better if you had put $800 into making it. Thinking that all that separates your work from the work of people like Cowbutt Crunchies is $800 is frankly pretentious. What you need is time and effort. Make a duct tape dress form if you want it to fit. I just made 6 for under $20 and they work just as well as my commercial form. Don't have an embroidery machine? You can embroider really nice things with just a needle, thread, and patience. Your wig is nice, it wouldn't make any difference to have an arda. Take time to press seams, to take in excess fabric, to cut off thread bits, to make mock-ups out of dollar store bedsheets, to actually finish your seams and hem your garments, to redo things that you didn't get right the first time. And for the love of god, please iron things before you wear them.

Okay, it looks pretty clean, which is a good start. Even application is like the number one thing with face paint. Here's my take.
Your brows are too short and too angled, I'd try to make them straighter. The red eyeliner/mascara combo looks okay, but it would look more natural if you darkened just a bit the inside of your outer corners. As for your skin, the grey looks a bit flat. The blush is a good idea, but a bit of highlights and contour would go a long way. As an example, I lightened a bit the inner corners of your eyes, which gives this area a bit more definition.

>> No.9826072

>>9825251
Go with a more intense black so that your brows dont look like a medium gray against the troll grey. you may have to layer it up, or even use a bit of black ben nye and a tiny brush to shape them a little less square/sharp so they look more natural. Lipstick is good, but for blush i find a dark red tint burgundy eyeshadow applied as blush and blended a little into my mehron works really well? then contour a bit (can be done with shitty black pencil eyeliner in a pinch, blended into the mehron). You certainly don't look bad, by any means! You're really cute and that goes a long way already!

Yes, it's just another facet of sameface.

Depends on what you want to do. Generally go for a less groomed look (and for the sake of everything holy, no faded/"cut" brows), use a thin brush to paint actual strands instead of the solid colour look.

Depending on your face shape you might want to put them a bit tighter, or further down than usual (assuming you're ftm crossplaying here), also, generally, more square and less angled is a good thing to aim for.

This Dave has a pretty good shape going on, even if I think they look waaaay too groomed.

I'm more bothered by Cronus' wig being roughly the size of his face, all while somehow the lace front looks like it's way too small for their face.
There's no canon design for pre-death Cronus, so while it's not perfectly accurate, it would look really misplaced if, unlike all the other cosplayers, he'd have a dramatically different pre-post.

>>9845930
I have to say, I do have a certain respect for Russian cosplayers' tendency towards cosplaying for the edit. It gets a bit much, yeah, but seeing as it was clearly intended for the effect to begin with, I can forgive it.

The Damara is no doubt the best one of the batch, from styling to pose.

The idea seems to be combining the characters with their lands by giving them markings related to the lands. Not a bad idea, and personifications of the lands are a pretty normal concept in the fandom, but the quality is underwhelming.

It would probably be better if people tried making more of a fusion rather than doing really intricate painting that requires a lot of skill to look like anything, but that’s more work than just wearing an existing cosplay and putting on different makeup.

This a feud that’s been going for a year, maybe two now?? The Roxy made some mediocre love live homestuck designs with a friend and someone else wanted to do love live homestuck; unnecessary drama ensues.

Anyone have any good advice for doing a troll makeup in summer heat, or is it a better idea to just avoid it all together?
Last time I attempted it during AX one year, I ended up sweating around my face and it made the paint lighter where it got wet. I don't think there's any getting around that, but I'd thought I'd ask anyway.
