Kinda wonder if just Doug Walker will show up.

Also, here is the artist alley list if anyone wants to see it https://shows.map-dynamics.com/momocon2018artists/
Looks like they moved it from last year which i'm VERY happy about. Last year I was put in a corner that you couldn't even see. I'm actually in a decent spot this year.
I'm excited to see TheRunAway guys again this year. Last year I didn't get to see their full panel since it started nearly 30 minutes late and I had to leave x.x

Don't know if you're from Georgia or a cosplayer, but have a cool/breathable cosplay on standby. It can get hot real quick, especially surrounded by a bunch of people.

If you're getting food at the CNN center, you can't go in if you have a mask, prop weapon (iirc it's realistic props), or face/body paint on. So be prepared if you have a costume like that. Also, there's usually school field trips during Momocon, so expect questions and candid pics from the kids.

It's the end of May in the South, so without a doubt it'll probably be well into the 80s, low 90s... Add several thousand people indoors, it gets hotter... So drink as much water as you can, shower frequently, take breaks as often as you feel and make sure you wear comfortable cosplays if it at all possible.

It's in Downtown-ish ATL, so if you plan on driving and parking... I'd suggest not leaving at all unless you wanna fight traffic and what not.

I've only got 2 cosplays planned so far. 9s (NieR: Automata) and Tokoyami Fumikage from BNHA (Hero Vers)

I'm still recovering from the expenses from SakuraCon, but I'm going because I promised our hotel booking friend I would be there hell or highwater. More than likely, I'll still end up spending too much. If anyone hasn't tried Ginya Izakaya, the Japanese restaurant nearby, I highly recommend it as a sushi chef.

I'll probably end up cosplaying Saitama for the first time. My friends always tell me to do it. I would refuse because I'm not really a fan of all the Saitama cosplay I see in general, but this will be the first time in a while one of my friends from Canada is coming down who does a mean Sonic cosplay. Another friend does a good Puri-Puri Prisoner, so I decided to cave for the group cosplay.

Dragoncon doesn't give a fuck about youtubers or newer productions, they're stuck in old franchises and media, newer people get like tiny rooms so they don't come anymore. Running the same boring circuits for the past two decades.

AWA is super anime focused, good for what it does, but yeah..

Momocon hits gaming, anime, western media, youtubers, twitch people, etc.. pretty well.

Reviving this thread as another new Momo attendee, from Texas so A-Kon is my comparable. I went to AWA for the first time last year as well and it seemed relatively normal in attendance, so I personally am looking forward to a normal size crowd. The temperature is my only concern right now because my cosplay choices were not the brightest, though not the worst I’ve dealt with. Lineup attached for context.

Is there anything besides the aquarium that’s pretty unique to Momo that a first-timer should check out? I’m definitely more of a cosplayer and into the anime scene than I am a gamer or YouTube person.

They have a pretty sweet rhythm game section as fair as unique goes

As far as heat, it stays pretty cool inside the center but a lot of people like to hang out around the green which is a circle of grass outside.

Cosplay wise, I rather enjoy the panels that Volpin, GSTQF or Go Big or Go home cosplay do. The cosplay contest is weird because typically eveyone agrees with MOST of the winners but there's always one WTF?! that even after looking at detailing and what not that don't make sense.
-

This is my 4th year going and first year going without a big cosplay, we really only have comfy cosplays and nothing to fill the "impressive cosplay" void. While I'm happy I don't feel pressured to get what were working on done within the next 2 weeks, I also am sad we won't have anything.

Most of these guests don't sit at a table during the con selling autographs, they just run panels. (With the exception of Monika Lee.) Kind of sad that the con doesn't give the cosplay track the budget to get very many nonlocal cosplay guests, but when they do fly someone in, they ask a person who used to be a local. Good going, Momocon, way to get us cosplayers pumped about our guest lineup... ¬_¬

Not anything staff can do about that. People had like 6 months to send in their photoshoots for the official schedule but most decided to wait until after the deadline to even bother and now they're scrambling in panic mode to try and get unofficial ones sent in.

>>9886821
You idiots know you could have filled out the survey that was on the website forever for guest considerations right? They aren't just going to go and mass-email all the patreon whores in hopes that someone says yes.

Does it have to do with just resembling a weapon more than the actual harm it could cause?

Animazement and Comicpalooza were also going on, not sure how big they are in comparison but everyone on my feed was at at least three of these. Agreed on shitty items, pretty sure I saw at least four booths of the same shit at least five different times.

Also babby’s first Momo experience, I love out of state cons and not knowing anyone because there’s no fucking drama. Humidity killed me and my makeup but cosplays were well received and got a decent amount of pics taken. The venue is interesting and was hard to navigate at first but come next year if I go it should be easier.

Honestly it just seems like a well rounded con compared to my locals. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and no major incidents happened that I heard of besides a couple minor injuries. Overall, 8/10 cause I’d have liked to have had at least one or two other close friends with me.

Did they fuck up the schedule? I lined up to get my copy of Fatal Frame 3 signed by Kimberly Brooks, and noticed his line was ridiculously thin. My friends and I did a lap around the dealer's room, then came back to find his line empty 30 minutes prior to it closing. We asked the line guy if it was ticketed. He said no. We just walked up, and Suda gave us all autographs and photos for free. It was surreal.

and the CNN center does not care. Even with Dragoncon's back door support, the best Momocon can do is bitch and whine. The CNN center will backhand them with their contract and tell them to go back to freak corral while they wipe their ass with a grand. Momocon is a shit in the bucket and more damage to property compared the revenue and loss generate by other places that use that venue. The CNN center does not care and they don't have to.

Basically this. Momocon stated several times that the CNN Centre was NOT a part of the con, and they cannot do anything about them.. They posted several signs stating don't wear mask, face paint, props, etc...

Even though the con generates more revenue for the CNN Centre, They still won't care about how people are treated... according to a few people, it's also a major security risk as well.

People have said that AWA should move to the GWCC because of how much more space there is, but AWA likes to suck the dick of the Cobb Galleria / Renaissance Waverly hotel, so that'll never happen. It's also my understanding that they have a pretty long-term contract with them.

But I digress.

Ah yes the good old rumor mill rears its ugly head.

You're all fucking retarded if you think Momocon is some degenerate convention that no one wants in GWCC. If any of you passed third grade you might actually understand that you're in the main headquarters of one of the most controversial news agencies of the US. The security treats everyone like shit year round and it has nothing to do with all the convention attendees. Instead it has everything to do with the fact that its fucking CNN and before the 2016 elections they were a little more lax.

Here's a hint in case you're too retarded to understand what this means: People want to see CNN literally burn to the ground. If it was the Fox News Center it would be the exact same too.

>>9894960
The first two years in the GWCC were rough but since settling in the GWCC is extremely accommodating towards the convention. Fuck off.

>>9894953
They're too small and it costs an absurd amount of money and they wanted to avoid the issue with overcrowding. The GWCC is capable of expanding into halls B and C and be able to hold a lot more than Dragoncon's current attendance numbers. Lets not even mention the fact that Dragoncon itself is a fucking nightmare for the city of Atlanta. Dragoncon is cool as an attendee but DOT and city employees and even emergency services have to dedicate so much to the weekend.

The size is the only nice thing.. But parking / CNN Centre was bullshit... Not to mention the fact that Momocon will never be able to use the entire venue (Meaning no other events going on at it) which causes even more traffic issues, then the Mercedes stadium had a country concert / other events going on which only added to the problem.

Babby's First Momocon here as well. I have local access to Collosalcon but the venue is getting to be a little too small and the Dealer's room is always sort of bad, seems much more like a Cosplay event to me anyways, onto the rating:

>Cosplays were varied and great! Lots of different series though MHA seemed a little over-represented.
>Dealers were also great! I had a lot of fun picking out good items from both Dealers and Artists, though Artists were definitely the Highlight for me!
>The people at the con were all quite friendly! Maybe this is just my experience as an Ohio Local, but there are always quite a few irritable people frequenting Collosalcon that tends to bring down my mood a bit.
>The food inside the con was pretty standard, but Atlanta proper had great food! We stayed at the Marriott Inn, so we never strayed for more than a few blocks around the convention center for food and otherwise but the strip next to the hotel had great food!

>Overall grade 8/10

I'll be making Momocon a stop every other year now, as the Hotels close by are a littttle too pricey to frequent yearly. I might even get over my shyness and try to cosplay next time I go.

She had two different props to go with the costume. Sewed two wigs together. Put a massive amount of detail into it. Idk man, like I don't know who should have gotten it instead.

Deathclaw while EXTREMELY impressive, had little to no sewing aspects about it and was mostly fabrication which is why it probably won Best Masters Fabrication and not overall.

I checked out the embassy one day. I would really like to stay in one or the other next year if I go because I have to ride Marta all the way from dunwoody

Been staying at embassy for all manner of cons for probably 10 years now. Always recommended because they all have free breakfast, easy parking (Unless some fuckwit dipshit parks outside the lines and fucks up an entire parking line) and happy hour for guests. The rooms ALWAYS have a living area with a pullout couch in addition to the bedroom.

There are no gates on the Waverly hotel parking lots. It is still free and chances are it will still be free.

Who else won in the costume contest? Didn't seem like a lot of awards.

TheEverymanArmory won best duo with the Kulu-Ya-Ku twin cosplay from MH World. The Dark Souls guy won another award. Don't know who else won.

But it cuts off the last 10 or so contestants, including the Deathclaw (Best Fabrication Masters) and Pink Diamond (Best Overall Masters)

Looks like they posted more photos then. I think everyone is posted now? I see the Deathclaw and the Pink Diamond.

It's difficult for fulltimers to get there on thursday. Especially since the panel list isn't that great on thursday. Burning a vacation day for friday is tough, but burning two for thursday? Nah.

Someone was handing those damn things out in the dealers room for the hell of it. They're evil geniuses because it worked.

They were way to high strung this year. Never had a problem with them in the past. This year I got flagged and had my fake as fuck nintendo duck hunt gun examined.

Dudes rad as hell, his panel was one of the most exciting ones at the con. Really hope he comes back. I told him if he's thinking of resurrecting characters in travis strikes back for the hell of it, then bring back jeanne.
