Lolita fashion and most J-fashions vary between their most Over The Top (OTT) and more street style friendly versions. While wearing J-fashion, what are some intentional adjustments or choices you've made to make the looks more comfortable / wearable for you? Maybe your body type means sipping either the top most or bottom most row of shirring makes a world of difference, or maybe your location means the weather dictates certain outerwear / innerwear choices?

I'll start - Lolita in rural high wind / dry weather farming area
>Always long bloomers
>Never hoop skirts
>Wear actual sturdy boots in a nice brown
>Place more focus on unique hats over hair (the wind!)
>Avoid solid white main pieces
>Go for busier prints that can hide the not-always but offending specks of dirt

Cool thread idea!
New England winter
>thermal tights
>always bloomers
>elegant boots
>layers, layers, layers
>cute earmuffs
>capelets
>fluffy scarves and gloves
>big, heavy lolita coat
>brand parasol/umbrella

New York, where we get all 4 season in one week
>Sweater tights, OTKs, knee highs, and ankle socks
>At least one heavy winter coat
>Offbrand shoes or boots that can brave the snow and rain storms (preferably in a darker color for obvious reasons)
>Cute cardigans or detachable sleeves for those days where it's cold in the morning but warm in the afternoon
>Foldable parasol that you can put in a purse, just in case
>Cute hair ties to do pigtails or other hair styles on days where it's just too damn hot for a wig

Huh. Interesting thread, op.
I live in a humid Mediterranean climate, these are some of the things I do:
>boleros > blouses
>cotton > chiffon
>knee high socks > OTKs
>natural hair > wigs
>in the summer: shorts > bloomers
>minimal makeup + setting powder
>carry a parasol everywhere
>wear sunscreen on all exposed skin
And if it's really hot and humid,
>light underskirt > petticoat
The last one is an exception rather than a rule, but some underskirts provide very light poof on their own that gives coords a nice, lightweight feeling that's preferable to petticoats.

Someone should really get linen boleros to become trendy. I have some for this kind of hot weather situation, but at least two of them are made out of polyester for no good reason. (meaning they are styled to be "summer" garments... But made of non-breathable material?!)

>>9885288
I think it's funny for some reason to imagine numerous detached sleeves in a purse. Do you have a favorite type of pigtail style?

>>9885284
Are their any colors that work better for a New England winter? Like, is it better to avoid white when it's snowing or is it perfect?

Off-white can look a bit dirty in the snow. Cool toned whites, pastels, rich jewel tones and even black look fantastic.

This is my biggest grief with most chiffon in lolita, actually. It's such a nice fabric but most of the time it's made out of poly and it doesn't breathe at all so it's generally useless in hot weather, which is a real shame.

I live in the tropics and I do a lot of these too!
Some added tips are:
>lace tights>socks of any kind
>bloomers with the weird bits of lace or chiffon all over them > light petticoats
>stains instead of other makeup formulas
>updos
>handheld fans

loving the mental image of lolitas walking through cobblestone streets, cheeks flushed and cooling themselves with ornate fans and parasols. like french aristocrats on holiday in greece.

Humid as in next to the sea or very rainy? I guess it's the first but I got confused. And also,if any anons could dump some inspo for boleros in sweet... That would be great bc I'm in the same weather as OP

Humid as in near the sea/coastline, sorry I didn't really clarify.
I found pic related just now (though I think that bolero is knit so not a very good choice for this weather), I'll see if I can find more for you.

any advice for rainy days?

>> No.9886188

Be careful about making sure your main pieces are color locked. That is to say the dye doesn't run when wet. Some materials can't be color locked after purchase, but others can, so it's good to research the treatment products that make it possible. In general, most pastels do not run, but a lot of reds seem to.

>> No.9886531

>>9886188
related, in order to set loose dye on cotton, you need a chemical called soda ash and warm water. Dharma has instructions for how to use it in dyeing, and it's the same idea.

Don't wear angelic pretty prints on cotton, especially anything with red.

Raincoats > umbrellas, especially if it's windy. It may also be worthwhile to buy cute rain boots or add waterproof coating to leather boots (depending on your style and local weather).
