Honestly even people you stop and take pics of in the hall and talk to about whatever they're cosplaying, as long as you're not awkward or weird and you have a good thing going they will probably invite you to hang out or whatever.

Paneling was kind of meh last year, lots of people cancelling. Rave was good. Big rowdy party con with lots of stuff to spill shekels on, and a good amount of people from here going.

Quality has been going down hill recently. Industry guests get beat out by other cons and their panels aren't up to par with other cons.
Parties and the rave are full of 16 to 18 year olds looking to get wasted do unless you're a pedo or looking to watch some teen girl ouke her guys out from alcohol poisoning those aren't really worth it

Is this a good con for kids who're just getting into anime? My coworker's got a pair of fourth graders (two out of a set of triplets, their brother must be mortified) who want to go to a real live convention and are having their mom sew them Hunter X Hunter costumes. I've been going since 2001 but haven't been there during the day in like ten years and I have no earthly idea what families would be looking for at a con anyway.

They're considering either this one or Midwest in July. I'd rather they not give any money to Kopf but I want then to have a lot to do.

I would say if you do 1 day for ACEN like Saturday, there's plenty of good cosplays for viewing and taking pics, along with a very good Artist Alley and Industry presence for getting fanart/official stuff. There will prob be a great HxH cosplay meetup too! If the kids are into dubs of anime, u might want to consider Midwest since it's like a third of ACEN size and usually has a wide variety of English voice actors.

I think ACen has Children's Programming every year and the Manga Library's coming back so if your co-worker's looking for some family friendly activities, there's that. Midwest is smaller but for family friendly stuff, I didn't see anything dedicated last year but there is the maid cafe there.

Both do offer discounts for children with kids being a completely different price for acen and midwest giving $10 off whatever the adult price for kids for midwest. So there's that for you to tell.

Sorry, it was all over the news and in the acen fb group so I assumed everyone knew. Basically a girl died under suspicious circumstances at the crowne plaza. She was hanging out with some friends in a room there. She went missing, her friends claimed they didn’t know when she left or where she went. The friends then took her car and drove around for awhile and eventually decided to tell the girl’s mom that they couldn’t find her. Eventually she was found dead in a freezer in the hotel. It’s all super sketchy because the friends lied about some stuff, they took her car, and one of the friends was working at the hotel so they had access to the whole building. There’s also several videos from their room party which people tried to analyze for evidence. If you want the full story or to see the videos, look up Kenneka Jenkins.

How are you guys deciding what to wear which day?
I have 2 cosplays, but the better if the two doesn't have a photo shoot, and the worse if the two has a shoot Friday and Saturday.

I broke my toe a few weeks before the con. So I haven't been able to even get to my sewing machine in the basement, let alone make anything. I get my next X-rays a week before the con. Most people go to cgl meetups with some really fucking weird expectations of what they are but you're more or less right. I more or less will swing by a meetup area see if anything is going on maybe buy a beer and hang out for 10-15 minutes. If you're idea is to meet up to get into one of the prearranged parties, pretty unlikely since most people have set up a discord or something by then to plan it and keep them on a pretty tight leash, especially acen since a ton of underage people try to get drinks.

Basically what the other anons said. Meetups are just that, some gulls meetup up for 30-45 minutes before they all retreat to their prearranged parties, hit a bar, or go to the dance. Most of the time it's cool, been to a few where it was just a whole bunch of "well I totally left my ID in my hotel room but am really 24! can you buy me a drink from the bar PLEASE!" or "hey where's the mega party, I can't give any details but it was the one everyone knows where it is and is really big and cool I am suppose to go just forgot any detailed information about it!".

Go stop by expecting to just chill with a few anons for a bit and leave or group up with a few others with not much to do. If memory serves right the Hyatt bar is pretty expensive in terms of drinks/food so I don't expect people looking to share a drink will stick around there long.

The reason for that is the number of very thirsty guys looking to hook up with a cosplay girl outnumber the normal cgl people. Girls don't show up often because they don't really want to be surrounded by autistic guys in street clothes asking about their feet or whatever.

There are a lot of girls, and a lot more people on here than show up at the meet, but it's typically at a private party or smaller group where they won't have randos from r9k, v, or wherever else trying to out their dick in anything that moves.

I'm older and mostly do panels now and help organize events and different aspects of the conventions. You grow out of some aspects of con life, you come to realize that partying is a waste of time and energy and there's no real reward to those "night life" activities anymore when you start getting older, instead, you grow into a new type of con life. You create and make things others enjoy. You hang out with people your age, hit up a nice restaurants, drink some wine over a good meal, and chat about.. well guess you would say "mature" topics.

It's part of life. You won't be in your 20s forever, and it's a natural part of life to grow out of activities you found fun and exciting when you were that age.

Well that does suck. But you gotta learn how to run a party room better, and I hope you did. One key aspect is having someone run the door, preferably you. Another is check IDs no matter what. And make the door person has some actual gravitas, and upper body strength, in case belligerent drunks show up. I'm sorry you had the room damaged, but these things apply to all parties, not just room parties.

I hope it doesn't put you off hosting forever though, when done right, room parties can be memorable forever.

We had a suite and when we got there they made us sign a waiver that we could only have 5 people in the room. Its like dude.. what. We had the cops come to our room even ON THURSDAY. Everyday they came to check on us. Its pretty crazy cuz my friend is like.. a hyatt club member or something I guess and normally gets the management a gift every year and we are generally treated well. This year it was just like fuck you to everyone I guess.

near as I can tell, prop checking was entirely voluntary outside of a few areas. I don't recall even seeing anything ziptied or anything. I didn't cosplay myself, but I saw plenty of big ass props.

I only brought a small prop pistol on Friday before they put out the prop check signs and I couldn't figure out where to go for it so I just never went to get it checked and nobody ever said anything to me about it. Of course it was kind of out of sight in a holster most of the time though. I didn't see anyone with any sort of bands or anything around their props either. I thought maybe there wasn't even any prop check until I saw the signs out on Saturday
