I am so sick of ordering things online only for them to not match the advertised color. I hate being perfectionist like this but I just can't settle for "good enough". I have so much shit laying around that I'm only going to throw out because its the wrong color by a few shades.

I used to wear a lot of Liz Lisa and learned how to use SS/mercari/etc as a teenager. I thought I was too fat and ugly to wear lolita, even though that was the fashion I discovered first and loved (and turns out I fit it just fine). Got back into lolita in my 20s, and I can only imagine how many DDs and wishlist items I missed out on because of my low self esteem

also recently bought some liz lisa, after buying burando almost exclusively the past 1.5 years himekaji is affordable as fuck

Exactly. I'm sick of AP lavenders not matching. And then one time I got posted and everyone was going on about how the undertone of my shoes didn't match my blouse (fucking pinks, am I right?) but really I can't keep buying and buying pair of tea parties after tea parties just to get the right exact undertone when they're advertised online as looking like they'll match.

I ended up moving in with her, she’s my best friend, and at this point I’m totally in love with her. She makes me feel....not lonely. I confessed my feelings yesterday after like, 5 years of build up and she just says “I was worried about that. What, am I supposed to be moved? People confess to me all the time.” Oof. I knew she was that kinda person but it still hurts. She tells everyone I’m like her little sister. There doesn’t seem to be much left I can do about it.

If we can't learn to ignore this stuff and freak out over it, it just sort of drives home the autistic label even more. People are judgmental, news at 11, it's one of the biggest lessons I had to learn in order to function closer to neurotypicals and it's not doing us any favors to be coddled, because then we don't learn how to cope with more difficult things.

I want to buy a bunch of replica items, green holy lantern and an atelier coat, because I only want it for a Harry Potter themed outfit I'll wear whenever the movie comes out. I'm normally a sweet lolita but the play came to my city recently and with the next two movies I love matching my outfit to a midnight premier.

I know it's wrong to want replicas but the green dress is like $500 and the coat is $400 and I'll likely never wear them to an actual meet. While the replica outfit would be maybe $200 for the dress and the coat and I'd wear it with normie friends who dgaf.

Not denying it's more costume than anything, but I want a lolita/Harry Potter inspired costume. Not just a HP costume - which is all that's on sale. I've seriously considered hand making something and, prior to the green HL release, would never have considered buying a replica.

Just for the argument's sake as well. I don't actually intend to go through with this purchase. I'm here to vent - which is why I'm in a "get it off your chest" thread.

I don't support replicas, I don't own any print/design replicas ( shoes and bags are a different kettle of fish ). Sometimes I do wish that having Morales wasn't so expensive though. You get what you pay for in the end of course.

Just mentioning this for your interest.

There was an actual Harry Potter La Foret collab sometime last year, Metamorphose and Atelier Pierrot both had green Slytherin dresses. I think Atelier Pierrot dress might still be around (though, since it didn't sell out I wonder if it's bad?), Meta dress seems to have disappeared into the void, but I guess it might pop up on the secondhand market. Or we could hope that La Foret does another collab when FB3 comes out.

These are the official collab dresses legit done by lolita brands and come with Hogwarts school emblem embroidered patch, so I'd say it's a decently done HP outfit and not a HP costume, probably closer to what you want rather than a bootleg HL.

I have no issues if some stranger on the internet decides they want to quietly buy a couple of replicas and never wear it to a lolita meetup, it just seems a little sad to have something you might be ashamed of associated with your fandom, especially when Slytherin is second in popularity and has an okay amount of stuff made for it (now, if you're Hufflepuff.... )

I feel you anon, i wear a lot of goth fashion outside of lolita but I always felt a little silly in gothic lolita and I look great in classic. Classic makes up 80% of my lolita wardrobe now.

I'm not sure how you're styling things already, but what worked for me is approaching a gothic lolita co-ord similar to how I approached classic. While heavy makeup, dark hair, corsets and lace all look great on me with regular goth fashion, they felt too try-hard in lolita. I also hate all the tacky halloween prints that are around lately, and even other gothic prints with all their edgy crosses and whatnot felt silly on me.
Try out the more classic leaning gothic brands like Sheglit, their solid colored victorian inspired OP's are basically a goth dream already. Instead of heavy makeup and dark hair, try light makeup and blonde or silver hair for contrast. Try hats instead of bows, wide brim ones or vintage ones with veils look fantastic too.

Mmmh yeah she’s definitely super blunt. She doesn’t exactly care for others feelings so she’ll say exactly what she’s thinking- but I even like that about her.

It’s just complicated because she’s my best friend, and I’m hers. She’s literally told me “if it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t think true friendship exists.” So I think she was actually a bit hurt I confessed to her, like I broke that trust.

We’re definitely fine and still roommates and best friends but I don’t think she even slightly took me seriously. And it’s really hard knowing she’s going to be dating other people. But it all boils down to my ability to handle my emotions to be able to maintain our friendship. She’s very important to me so even if it hurts it’s fine.

We know each other better than we know anyone else so.... I don’t think she was trying to make me see her for something else. I think she was just being herself. The difficult part is I like her for herself, calloused and mean and all.

My favourite brands are ETC and JM, but I hate when people call my coords otome because I associate it with dating sims and bad anime. It's been used internationally for that for years already, so please come up with something new or just call it girly style like they do in Japan. At least don't push your embarrassing otome kei label on others.

>> No.10144419

>>10144405
Otome and girly basically mean the same thing in a literal sense, at least. “Girly” I think is more embarrassing sounding in English, “otome” or “otome kei” sounds a little less so. And then in Japanese the opposite is true, ha.

Its good that you're not in a rush to sell things off either, so you can price your items reasonably and wait until they sell, it's not like you have to price them dirt cheap and get rid of them right away.

I’m familiar with weebs and Japan, but you’re right in that I don’t have any weeb friends. The people I know enjoy anime but not to an embarrassing degree.

I guess it also helps distinguish the style for people who speak English natively, since you could call a lot of female fashion “girly” just as a descriptor. Personally I use both interchangeably depending on who I’m talking to about what I’m wearing.

>> No.10144438

>>10144435
I get what you're saying but it'd be awkward if you use otome to a native English speaker who is familiar with otome already. Perphaps without saying anything to you they associate it with dating sims (that people also cosplay from). Though I guess it depends on how awkward you think it is if someone assumes you are cosplaying a dating sim or build your style around that.
I don't live in an English-speaking country, so when I say ''girly style'' they don't think I'm literally saying I dress like a girl or something vague like that. Maybe you could do something inbetween like saying girly kei or just say it's a Japanese/Harajuku fashion.

I hate sweet lolitas with a fundamental misunderstanding of classic and will call any solid color coordinate 'classic' or any solid black coordinate 'gothic.'

I also hate sweet lolitas who tag spam said categories.

I feel that they're a lot of the issue with people lately who cannot differentiate the three substyles. Ultimately, the lolita community is a shitshow anyways and I'm likely just describing a symptom rather than the true issue.

I've had a guy do the same shit to me and honestly dude, it's inconsiderate as fuck. Especially if she has never given you evidence to even imagine she likes you back.

I have a friend who pulled the "oh i've liked you for all these years" and wrote me a letter, sending it to my new address when my bf and i moved in. he did not admit to writing the letter till almost 3 years after the fact and only while my bf was gone.

i got really mad because 1) he acted really douchey about his unrequited love and 2) i never gave him even the slightest hint that i liked him because i didn't, i thought of him as a great friend that i could confide to and i thought that my listening to his rants and giving him advice about his own gf at the time was enough.

I would hope that you will eventually drop this whole liking her thing and be happy that she is still cool with you being there despite your confession. the guy who confessed to me even tried to room with us at some point. imagine how awkward it would have been for me to have a close friend who likes me and doesn't respect my disinterest living there and trying to find opportunities to hang out with me alone?

i'm all for guys and girls being friends, but if you can't separate your feelings from your friendship, you're doing yourself and your friend a huge disservice. find a girl that actually likes you back

ayrt, and I don't think we'll ever stop it fully, so learning to accept what the world is like has helped me ignore and not overreact to a lot of things. I mean, maybe I am the one just not getting it still, but I firmly believe that we hold people's hands too much and then nobody learns to have a backbone. Normal kids get told to ignore bullies or find a diplomatic way to disengage and report them, and it's far less likely to result in a meltdown if you give an autistic person the means to grow some self esteem of their own independent of what names people call them. But also, this is an anon bulletin board, people are gonna be dicks so you can't apply everyday logic here. It's the same idea of moving on if you don't like what a troll says.

I think you are holding their hands too much by accepting their shitty, ignorant behaviour. They should grow a backbone and try to be better people. It's not like using it as an insult is unstoppable now, you can nip it in the bud before even more normies start using it. Ah yeah, I’m definitely not trying to act douchey about it. I understand she doesn’t owe me anything, and it’s something I have to work through myself now, balancing heartbreak and friendship. I think things are a bit more complicated because we’re both girls, and have a deep and complex emotional relationship. I just developed feelings with her.

There’s a small part of me that’s just relieved she rejected me. Now I can move on eventually and find someone who actually likes me for me. It’s just going to be a long path ahead of me, as I try to move back to just being a friend and stop being so...painfully in love with her.

I feel like space would help but we literally live together and share a room and spend every day together. I feel like I just keep...kidding myself. I’m trying to move past it and I’m sure I will eventually. But I don’t want to lose my best friend and cosplay partner because I can’t handle my own feelings.

But I can’t help feeling sad and hurt. I’m a little heartbroken right now. It’s gojng to take some time. So far we’re just acting like I never said anything. It’s something that’s so important to me but we’re ignoring it. Her friendship is more important though so, I guess it can’t be helped.

telling someone they look bad isn't concrit though. it's better to tell people the specific things they're doing wrong and the specific things they're doing correctly than to make a blanket statement. like

"you've got a good color balance going on here but there's not enough volume in your petti to really fit the silhouette of the dress, so it looks deflated. you'll need to add some volume to your hair to complement your large headpiece, and this'll be even more important when you've got more volume on the bottom, to balance out its visual weight"
