How do you feel about the influx of nerdlesque performers? Do you think that the performances are any good?

In my opinion nearly all of the performances and costumes are half assed and cringy af. I have yet to see an actual nerdlesque show that had good costumes and choreography (let alone attractive performers)

>> No.10156105

It's definitely lost its novelty in the current year where geek culture is so mainstream.

>> No.10156227

I hate burlesque because everyone I know who does burlesque will never stop talking about how they do burlesque. At cons I hate it even more. That said it's easily avoided so they can do what they want as long as they don't push in my face.

>> No.10156237

They are cringy af and lame as hell. Theres a group in texas that is especially bad, Texas Heat Nerdlesque. The acting, dancing, and performance are SOO BAD. There's video of one of the chicks doing an Alucard from Castlevania to Puscifer and it was awful. This shit never needed to fucking exist.

Burlesque never was meant to be any way classy. It was always a a poor man's version of Cabaret made up of unreliable talent, lack of bottle service another shit a rich man can get at his cabaret while huffing cigars with their squeeze

Of all the things a nerd can google up for Burlesqur information. They dont do much research. Sites offer a biunty of info on what Burlesque and they can learn how to be better burlesque dancers

>> No.10158802

I wouldn't mind it if the costumes were decent and the people were pleasant to look at. Instead it's cringy and full of fat tumblrinas dressed like todoroki and D.VA grinding on each other.

Would it sound egotistical and mean spiited if I said that I am kinda pissed that "nerd" culture has become mainstream? It feels like things we like, and i mean genuinely hold an interest in, and not just for publicity or attention, but really truly enjoy, is becoming saturated by fucking normies.

>> No.10165851

I mean the actual Empire Strips Back show is great. Perfect combination of funny, sexy and surprisingly beautiful at times.

I've never seen a non professional nerdy burlesque, though.

Never heard of it. I'm vaguely aware of burlesque but I've never been to a burlesque show, I don't know what you're supposed to do there or if they play instruments or something.

Seems harmless enough though. 'Sexy' dancing with pop culture outfits is about the level we're at with cons nowadays so it's not a huge surprise it exists. Business as usual.

Blackheart burlesque from the suicidegirls is pretty good imo, lots of hot tattooed women doing themed performances.

I think that meshing the two isn't hard. But I agree that it's hard to master - most of the time people just want to dance slutty and wear costumes to proclaim themselves "nerdy" when you know they don't have a real interest in what they're doing.

I went to one nerdlesque show and it was fun! There was only one good dancer but I enjoyed seeing their interpretations of various geeky things. I'd go again. No one goes to to a nerdlesque show for real burlesque. It's parodical.

On the flipside of this, I have plenty of nerdy friends, who want to be 'sexy' and they're anything but. I'd never say it to their faces, but I cringe when they post about it. Sometimes I have to unfollow if it starts to eclipse all their other ways of expressing love of a show because it starts tainting it for me, personally. Those aren't the characters I like... I am happy you enjoy expressing your love that way, but I can't watch.

oh fucking yes, i agree. i have several unattractive friends that do boudoir and "sexy" versions of their fave characters from shows - kudos to them for having that confidence but i have to mute them because i dont want to see their lard asses on my feed. i can support them without thinking its hot lol

It's somewhat sad that burlesque in the modern imagination is just stripping with fancier costumes and more attitude (and that's not true just in fan culture, most people think this); real-life burlesque generally involved genuinelly skilled talent demonstrations tied in with the sexy stuff, like comedy, song and dance. Just trying to act sexy and over-the-top in cosplay is a lot less interesting than if folks actually tried to do fandom themed burlesque in the historically accurate sense.

while i agree with >>10166110 and i wouldnt go to the extent of saying i hate it and its cringe, i also agree with >>10166538. and its fine to think being fat is not attractive. it isnt healthy and its quite normal to find it gross. i hate the stereotype nerd/geek/weeb women and unfortunately nerdlesque really seems to feed into it... but it also seems like there are lots of people who genuinely enjoy watching it in panels at cons, etc. so i personally have zero overt complaints and i dont mind it too much.

i kind of want to start a group where i live of cosplay poledancers, i think it would be super fun and actually sexy (way way less obesity) except none of the people where i dance are actually nerds. and i dont know many legit poledancers to begin with.

if any of yall know some good dancers who are also weebs, let me know, i think it would be fun

This is something that's bothered me in my two experiences. Cons in the UK have had panel sections specifically dedicated to burlesque performances which I never attended so I can't judge those, but I've seen at least three which were placed in with the skits.

One of them was Asuka from Evangelion in her plugsuit who strips down - she's 13.
The second was Riza Hawkeye from Full Metal Alchemist. and while being an adult, my issue is that no one seems to select characters who would be seen doing a strip tease. Riza has scarring on her back which she feels self conscious about, so why would her character be doing this? Lust would have been a better pick in my opinion.

We had a strip tease of someone cosplaying Tony Stark in recent years and that one was the best of all three because they chose the route of humour. They didn't actually end up taking all of their clothes off but I think they made more of an impact compared to those who did get down to their underwear. It didn't try to take itself seriously.

Finally, in with skits we've also had pole routines, and they're usually accompanied by someone who is singing alongside them. It's interesting to see people successfully do it in costume and I low key want to see someone do it as Bayonetta because it works for her character.
