1. Take things not so literally

I used to be one, until I was finally able to buy dresses for myself. I basically grew up on this board.
I do kind of think it's given me a leg up on people who jumped into Lolita on sight, because I've witnessed enough draggings on /cgl/ to know what would make a good (or decent) coord, what is good brand vs shitty Milanoo BS, etc.
I know this whole "lolita at heart" concept pisses off seagulls, but I get it. We all start somewhere. As long as you're not showing up to meets without actually wearing the fashion, I don't think it's a big deal. Can't say I understand the pants-shitting rage ITT.

>> No.10190313

I don’t understand the romanticization of the idea of “being a lolita.” It’s wearing frilly dresses of a particular style. If the style doesn’t suit you, why bother with this “lolita at heart” stupidity, ironically or no? There are styles that suit you, just stop fixating on lolita and go find them.

>> No.10190329

>>10190302
I think it's because of immediate suspicions that anyone who's a lolita at heart also participates in discussion about the fashion and offers concrit to actual lolitas, without wearing the fashion themselves, which ultimately means their input isn't as valuable and often times can be misleading. It happens a lot on FB communities and even more so here because you can't prove this or that anon is or isn't truly a lolita, unless they say something absolutely idiotic that outs them as pretenders of course.
Don't get me wrong, it's perfectly fine to love the fashion without wearing it, but "lolita at heart" as a concept is misguided at best because it doesn't matter how much you love the fashion, you're not a lolita if you don't wear the clothes. Additionally there are some people like this in my comm who are allowed to participate in discussions online but routinely pitch fits when told that meetups have dress codes, and it's exhausting to deal with.

>> No.10190331

>>10190287
yeah, but you *probably* shouldn't be calling yourself a lolita before you buy that dress and start wearing it every once in a while; also, it sounds like you actually had a plan for starting. most of these 'at heart' types end up hovering in the communities for years without ever actually getting in the fashion, giving shitty and unwanted advice to people actually wearing lolita. that's why half of this comm gets so triggered about these types popping up and asking for "acceptance" or "validation". at least contribute something useful if you're going to hover in the comm.

Honestly, biggest reason is cause I'm fat. I see a lot of cute plus sized lolitas and wouldn't mind wearing the fashion if I'm just chubby, but it's not a fashion that is accomodating to my current size and I'd rather just lose weight to look good in cuter clothes than alter them or squeeze into something that's not going to look right. The other reason is that I've got a lot more hobbies that I'm investing my spare money into, and lolita doesn't fit in there at the moment. I know there are ways of making it affordable, but even still, it's a fashion about fine materials and details and it's not something I'd want to cheap out on. So I just come to this board for my cosplay and idol stuff, and lurk the lolita threads saving pictures of pretty outfits. :)

I wish I could wear cute cloths but I'm a guy and don't have the correct body shape for it. Ive tried a few cheap/simple things but my shoulders are so massive that I cant get anything I've bought on. Ive at least gotten some skirts to fit me because I have a very slim waist, but as of yet no top has ever been able to get past my shoulders. I have a couple more cheap dresses in the mail along with a custom sized cosplay so I'm still hoping I'll find something that fits me eventually.

I'm also a "medicine student" and I'd never call myself a doctors until I actually graduate. If you were really in the medical field, you'd know how hierarchical it is and how important it is not to *ever* call yourself a physician to a patient if you're only a student.

Autism. As if that anon is going to tell patients, or anyone outside a board about fucking clothes, they’re a qualified doctor if they don’t want to throw away all their work. And no I’m not her.
