I wasn't the OP for past attempts, but I participated in the '15 and '16 and the responses were pretty good. take what you can with a grain of salt, but I assume on average people are being pretty transparent and straightforward.

It's only expensive the first time, but there's a lot of things you reuse for every coord. You really only need one or two petticoat and bloomers, and if you stick to similar styles you can even stick to one pair of shoes and just a couple of blouses. Then just cycle through different jsk and accessories.

Between the secondhand market, cheaper taobao/Bodyline, buying dresses and accessories also means not every "new" outfit has to be the full $300-400 direct from burando. Add to that, every lolita eventually has to get rid of their older dresses, because if we really bought a new dress every week we'd end up adding 50 huge poofy dresses in a year taking up space in our wardrobes. The sale of old dresses goes back to funding the purchase of new ones (and the old ones in turn are someone else's "new" dress). So the $$$ to have a new dress every week isn't even as high as you'd think.

Lolita is actually pretty reasonable. I mean, it's no $5 wish outfit, and definitely not a hobby actually poor people should get into, but it's no worse than any other pointless nerdy hobby.

If you were underweight it is associated with lower bone density and then lower adult bone density, which is particularly bad for women as menopause makes you lose this eventually anyway. Which sucks if you're like, 50 but end up with the bones of an 80 year old.
