After a particularly awful experience at Anime Weekend Atlanta last year I've been workshopping and brainstorming some ideas that could help
>everyone
enjoy the conventions more and help make the conventions safer for underage minors and younger individuals.

If this thread garners interest, I'd love to share some of my ideas that I'm working on getting adopted into future convention rules and guidelines

There 95% of /cgl/ issues solved, just like most all cons promote before and during each con. Though given where we are no one will do it because it means not being able to make horror stories and drama shit the rest of the year to go on about till the next con.

I was there too, nothing outside the normal partying that I recall from the cgl thread, and some dumb drunks puking/shitting in random areas and that drunk guy who got the ambulance called on him for being way too drunk.


I bet you it's just some personal BS drama that is over-hyped, but a "huge problems with cons". Real issues that cross the line and that are reported are often dealt with really fucking quick by hotel staff or cons staff and sometimes local law.

After the con a lot of people were screeching on the Facebook groups that people got too wild, dressed too slutty (like vag hanging out of bunny suits) and were drunk all day so the con felt a lot less family friendly. I did not really have that experience though. I brought my kid and I left the con around 8 every day so from the prospective of a literal parent with a kid it felt family friendly enough to me but maybe shit got weirder at night but I feel like that's to be expected.

Often there are officers blatantly walking around everywhere during it, if you feel unsafe and don't mention anything to all those resources I can't really feel sorry for you.

Cons do have activities for children. Also depends on what age range pops into your mind when you say children, I guess. I suppose it’s nice to see the costumes and bond with the parent over - a hobby. I suppose similar reasoning to why people bring their bratty kids to sport games?

I mean I personally bring my kid because sometimes I just can't get someone to babysit for the whole weekend. My husband and I usually pass the kid off to each other depending on who wants to do what so that we can still enjoy the con by ourselves a little bit and we leave early whenever the kid is tired out and done for the day. AWA even has a dedicated baby lounge that's pretty helpful if the kid is a toddler or baby and they just need a quiet space to chill and play with some toys for a little while. I wouldn't bring my kid to something as crazy as Dragoncon but AWA and Momocon have been fine to bring them to. Also honestly, kids need to learn to deal with being bored sometimes. I go with my kid to kid's events even if I don't particularly find them that entertaining and they can go with me to cons even if they don't find them interesting. That's just part of life. I dislike this idea that parents need to give up going to things that they enjoy just because the kids might not find it interesting. Although I will say my kid does enjoy looking at all the costumes and there are a few other parts of cons that they enjoy.

If men and women are truly equal it stands to reason that women commit just as much crime as men and are equally as violent. It is already known that women receive lighter sentences for the same crimes as men, and their violence is taken less seriously because they’re physically weaker. Men also typically do not report when they are physically or emotionally abused, assaulted, or raped by a women because no one takes them seriously. Due to this lack of reporting the numbers are skewed to look like women are victims more often.

Well, women are typically less lethal than men (due to the societal upbringing more than natural strength, but I digress) so it’s common sense that the cases can’t be judged with the same severity even if they were doing the same action. In the same way that, even if you used the same amount of strength, punching an elderly man and punching a young fit guy should be assessed differently. Mind you, I’m not saying that it’s okay to hurt people just because they can take it. Just that you should differentiate between equality and equity.

I can't speak for all of STEM but in computer science women definitely benefit from discrimination in hiring. They represent less than 10% of graduates yet a company with only ~15-20% women programmers can face criticism for not hiring enough women. I work with women who actually deserve to be where they are who resent people like you to no end.

Girls do the same shit, I've had it happen constantly over the years in my various fit styled crossplay. Don't act like women are a different breed or a step above everyone else because they are a certain sex, that does nothing for anyone and doesn't address actual issues. The only ones who are a different breed are the autists who do nothing but hold up in their rooms 24/7 during the con and go shouting a bunch of drama BS to stir the pot because they know they can't do anything else at the con worth a damn.


If anyone does give you grief or make you feel uncomfortable just simply report them, if you have social anxiety do a buddy system with one of your IRL friends, or just go to a smaller convention where space is far more open and volume is lower.
