It's a race thing, especially with old Moitie -- they were made for Japanese girls, who usually average shorter and smaller than white girls. So if you're mostly looking at Western lolitas, a lot of them are going to be much taller and bigger than the target market the clothes were originally intended for. Especially because most of them want to collect the old stuff instead of buying the new releases that are bigger-sized.

To clarify, you can see that the problem isn't just her width, the skirt hem ends way above her knees. You'd think this has nothing to do with her bursting out of the dress, but what happens with a short dress is that the bust and the waistlines are also in the wrong places. So this girl would have been shoving her boobs into the waist of the dress, and the waistline isn't even where her own waistline is. Hence the need for a belt, and even then the dress still looks too small because her boobs are shoved into the waist, which is the narrowest part of the dress, not the widest part where it should be.

I'm not trying to defend this girl either, imo if you don't fit nicely into the dresses then a better option would have been to go for the skirts, plus Moitie just released a bunch of "boyfriend-sized" shirts earlier this year. A little bit of alteration if the skirt waist is still too small (they usually use pretty common solid fabric, so it's not like an AP skirt where changing the waistband would mess up the skirt entirely), and people would look like they actually fit into their clothes.

Just trying to explain why it seems like "fatties" are hoarding Moitie.

That's why I specified old Moitie in particular. Specifically I can tell you girl needs to be ~155cm +-5cm, waist size under 68cm, bust size under 95cm, in order to fit into old Moitie. Most of the versatility is that the elastic OPs will fit a short chubby girl, the girl posted here is an example of what it does to tall girls.

The newer stuff is bigger, there's already complaints it's too big for some long-time Moitie wearers that they're getting sized out of the brand.

Moitie hoarders just seem to hoard smaller old Moitie. It's cheaper but that's because the size range is small. So you just get white girls stuffing themselves into tiny dresses meant for smaller girls.

If it's empire/high waist they likely haven't figured out the waistline should have been their underbust measurement rather than their waist measurements. Plus all the confused noobies who haven't figured out that you're supposed to be 2-5cm under the garment measurement, not at the garment measurement.

As someone who is actually in between sizing the whole "small is too small big is too big" seems like bullshit anyway. With a lot of brands there isn't actually that much difference in between sizing, so if the small is too small, get the bigger size. You can tailor it smaller if it turns out it really is too big, but quite often it's just an extra cm breathing space.

anyway!! someone on rufflechat posted a great idea of starting a thread of people sharing their wardrobes so someone else could put together a coord for you and this is (mostly) what my partner picked for me!! they took inspo from kera snaps and picked some really weird items i never woulda thought to combine but i am in love with this coord. most of the accessories were left to me so i rolled with a yami/yume kawaii feel to get that good weirdness you see in a lot of japanese street snaps

I wanted to break out something colorful to celebrate the spring before it snows! I have always admired the Wa Lolita style and this dress is just to die for! I think in the future I might try pairing it with a shorter sleeved blouse, I love the kimono sleeves,but with the fullness of the skirt it it takes away the definition of my waist. I also want to find something a bit better for the hair, the dress came with a cat eared headband which is a bit much even with all the beautiful hair bows attached!
