Yeah, yeah we know it’s dead. It also keeps popping into all the off-topic threads so let’s contain the gyaru posts here.

The reason these are in gal mags is because being gal isn't about wearing specific clothes like lolita is, it's about being on trend. The make up is basically the only thing that ties it all together a gal. The pics your posting aren't "hybrids" they are just gals wearing lolita outfits. It's the same shit like mori-gyaru, it's just a gal reinterpretation of a pre-existing style. However, it's gal and not the style it's interpreting. Think like punk lolita or ero lolita or even gothic lolita. Those are a lolita interpretation of punk and goth, those are lolita and not goth or punk.

noob from the fairy kai thread here, I'm not sure which substyle I'm most interested in yet, so I'd like to know the instas of the most prominent ones you'd recommend overall to become familiar with the variety.

also i have a couple other questions:

is there any recent fashion, jfashion or western, that you would consider similar to extreme gyaru in the spirit of dressing in a way that scares off guys? (I wondered this when reading the history articles.)

what are the most recent trends in gyaru? a lot of the educational articles are older, so I'm curious what's the latest info

>> No.10379548

>>10379545
Most forms of gyaru are basically dead, although onee is still around. The nice thing about gyaru is it’s more about the make up than anything, so you can make a lot of things work. What are you generally interested in? Pastels? Punk? Girly styles? Sexy styles? Really fucking weird things?

>> No.10379549

>>10379541
No problem! (also i meant "ties it all together AS gal) I do know that hime lolita and hime gal are very similar, having similar roots in their interpetation of princess. Lolita in early 2000s did indeed take on a lot of gal trends, like circle lenses and fake lashes (and to some extent footwear) but the split is still fairly distinctive. Lolitas took those items and worked them into their own fashion and that's part of how OTT sweet started. There was also a period wear a lot of lolita inspired clothing was popular in gal. La Pafait for instance made a lot of "sexier" sweet lolita style hime gal clothing. Let me know if you want any more info about anything!

yes to all in theory, but I don't know what I will actually buy. when I started lolita, I liked oldschool looks the most but ended up buying sweet "because puppies!" so who knows. I do own some Liz Lisa, so I guess himekaji seems most accessible. I'm a graphic designer (or was, until I switched to programming for that sweet spending money), so I like everything creative and expressive - whether it's punk or frilly or a little trashy.

i know dreamv was just gyaru fast fashion so they had a bad rep but i think thats why i look back on them with such fondness. their offerings were way more diverse back in the day- there was your liz lisa inspired items, they had jesus diamante/la pafait hime inspired items, they even had some lolita inspired items. they also dabbled in more mature styles, "street" styles, the MAR*S sexy grown up look. they had general cutesy stuff that would've fit with pastel styles like fairy kei and generic popteen cutesyness.

now nearly everything they offer is the same, it's either super generic or just the same neo romantic gothic dress in dusty pink/grey/black/beige.

I feel like a washed up weirdo after seeing these images. When I was a baby weeb who admired gyaru style, all of these models seemed so much older and mature than me. Now I'm 25 and all these girls were 18-20! It makes me feel weird that I'm 5 years older than these girls were but I'm still imitating their trends and style.

I fucking loved dreamv for the same reason. I saw people in the jfash general saying people should move on from early 2000s jfash but I think the reason people still love this shit it because there was so much variety and all of it was (and still is) so different from anything that was going on in the west in fashion. Gyaru these days in comparison is very toned down and jfash in general takes more cues from what is popular in the west rather than going off into its own batshit scene

Anyway great thread op I love being nostalgic for gyaru

you're just going to have to really pay attention to the direction you're curling and wrapping around the iron. maybe getting a bubble wand would help you?

put the top layer in a loose braid and clip that up. or split your top layers into two sections, left and right.

I am so tired of people reeing about gal on this board when they clearly don't wear gal, and clearly never have. ank rouge is not "knock off" liz lisa. it was just a competing brand. hell even in 2010 it didn't even resemble liz lisa. same with deary by yumetenbo, it's not a brand, it's a fashion line by a shitty fast fashion and it was knock off of basically every style of gal that wasn't purely hostess/kurogal style. but again, it's not a BRAND it was just a fashion line for fast fashion during that time period, which was why it was gal at all in the first place.

No, just trends shifted. Back in 2008-2012 all the fashions were bright and colorful (lolita, gyaru, fairy kei). And most of the girls into the fashion were young (under 21) and the brands target ages were young. All those colorful trends fed off each other.

But over time, the designers grew up, the target age group grew up and everything’s slowly become more muted. AP’s designers once said their designs changed to adapt to aging fans, I imagine gyaru brands did the same.

Gyaru isn’t “dead” it just evolved. A lot of the brands evolved to the Larme style first, when the “soft sister” trends (I know that’s not the true name, but that’s what I’m calling 2013-2014 early Larme Amo style) we’re around, many of those brands were considered gyaru, like Swankiss and Syrup. Then they evolved into their own thing. Now it’s the neo-romantic style that’s popular now. Then on a few years it’ll change.

>Universal-Doll when it was still up

I was furious to find UD went down recently. She wrote a lot of good articles on Jfash trends circa 2010-2016 (mainly gyaru) from the perspective of someone actually living in Japan, and I still referred to them sometimes in the current year. It kinda looks like she just hasn't paid for any more hosting so the blog itself probably still exists for now, but in time it'll be another resource gone forever. “Soft sister” was just a taobao search term. It’s just what I personally use to refer to the brief 2013-2014 Amo style period of early Larme, where trends kinda good blurred with cult party kei and neogyaru. Before a single one of you dare to tell me I’m trolling, just imagine them with Asian eyes, ratchet nails, and bleached hair. Plus or minus those, some ribbons, and a few choice brand-name accessories, these people are gals & gyaruo. This is the look that gal fashion is basically seeking to emulate. With that in mind, what attracts you to this look? Part of the reason I like Japanese culture is because they’ve got a radically different fashion sense, but I felt extremely at home at the dance clubs in Shinjuku and Harajuku. They even played “Country Roads” (and, perhaps even more strangely, “This is America”) in some of the bars.

Aaaah, I hope you had as wonderful a sleep as I did. That being said, I find your post to be completely ridiculous. In the first place, beauty is simply a more objective concept than you are willing to admit. Of course, I won't stop you from putting my ass on a pedal and worshipping it, if that's your thing. But let's take this a step further:

>Why is it a good thing for you that somebody else looks "horrendous"?

Are you truly happy about this because they are setting a lower standard for you to live by (ie: "breaking beauty norms")? Or because they make you look better by comparison? Both are terrible things to wish for, as you're encouraging the people around you to look bad. That's just like BMing them by praising them for being such easy targets, if you don't mind my saying so. I get the feeling that you did not have a lot of friends in high school, judging by this post. Were you overweight or something?

>>10402642

It doesn't confuse me. Rather, what confuses me is why more people aren't willing to acknowledge that we already live in a world surrounded by gals and gyaruo-- we simply call them "normies" here in the West. If you want to be a gal, simply dress ratchet with your friends and go clubbing lmao. To that end, these threads probably belong on /fa/ instead of /cgl/, since it can hardly be considered the same as cosplay or lolita. You'd probably get many more people posting in them.

>> No.10402869

>>10402857

All you've done is tell me that I "can't see the difference," as if the differences were obvious (they aren't,) without bothering to name even a single one. Could that be because there simply are no meaningful differences, outside of eye shape? That's really what I find so curious about all of this-- /cgl/ must be, without a doubt, the single most politically-correct board on all of 4chan. Yet, you seem to believe that Jersey gal subculture and gyaru subculture are so different from one another, for no other reason than because the eyes of the people who wear the outfits are shaped differently. I am the one saying "There really isn't anything different here." Meanwhile, you are putting the Japanese on a pedestal for some reason. Which one of us really has yellow fever, sister?

But look, I'm not here to bicker. You might remember I asked a question earlier:

"With that (extreme similarity between the styles) in mind, what attracts you to this look?"

I want to know if the psychology that draws you towards gal-ism leans more toward wanting to achieve a sense of normalcy and fit in with the crowd, or if it's because there's something about this look that you find uniquely attractive. As I said before, I am from Jersey. I have never found the "Jersey look" attractive, so I am extremely biased and can't understand the appeal.

I also never said there was "no place" for you on /cgl/, although I do think you gals would be more at home on /fa/. Yours is a legitimate fashion style, for better or worse, whereas most of the people on this board are merely playing dress-up.

I think this is a very valid point. My own perceptions of what is "normie" are obviously being skewed by the mere fact of where I live. Many of the people around me are trashy. Maybe where you're from, seeing ratchet gals at clubs, or out in public/ at the gym, is totally abnormal.

>"NYART but I don't feel like chatting lmao."

>>10402879

That's true, that's exactly what this is. I am not going to lie to your face, through your computer screen. Of course, you can take out the bit about thinking this is all about visually appealing **to men/ to me**; I never suggested anything of the sort. That being said, it is certainly true that any kind of fashion, as a pursuit, is directly tied to visual appeal in some way or another. Whether that's the visual appeal that a type of fashion-style has to the wearer, to others, or some combination of the above, is entirely subjective and varies between humans. A person might also like a fashion-style specifically because it is unappealing to anyone, and that's okay too.

What I want to have answered is "What about this style appeals to you?" My weird sense of humor aside, I am genuinely curious. I've proposed a couple of worthless theories already, but I really want the honest opinion of the gals here. Oshiete, gal-chan.

Sorry babe, but don't get your hopes up too high for me. I think the likelihood of that ever happening is about as high as the likelihood of you dressing uniquely. Otherwise, I'd be postulating quantum physics instead of asking random gals on the internet what attracts them to their subculture fashion that, to me, looks identical to the completely average, American trends that I find myself surrounded by on a daily basis.

Men will never understand why women wear a style made by women, for women, with the full intention of disgusting men. We like the way we look and we like that it repulses annoying incels. We don't have to explain ourselves lol.

Unless you're a kurogal, yamanba, or just a gigafat, you're basically just wearing a slutty outfit that's based off of slutty outfits worn in Japan, which are, themselves, based off of slutty outfits you'd find all over the place in Jersey lmao. So you're basically imitating a normie. How is that inherently repulsive? Maybe to an incel, it would be.

That being said, I know you weren't actually trying to be helpful, but thanks for the closest thing anyone in this thread has given to a serious answer. "I literally want to wear this because I hate men and want to disgust them." Maybe not the answer I was expecting but it works for me. Hope the lesbian vocel life is working out for you.

Look here you horny galcel, that's obviously milk. It says so right in the picture. Anyone with a brain can tell her outfit was designed to repulse men. How could any man go after her if she can't even consume milk properly? She's throwing up everywhere. Repulsing men is the the essence of J-fashion, so she's clearly doing it correctly. I don't want to clean up that shit.

Now here's a gal that knows how to drink her milk. As you can see, this gal took the opposite approach: Incels would be way too intimidated to look at a woman that can just chug down milk like a baby cow. Just look at how she confidently stares at you while drinking her tasty beverage. I actually had to leave the room, close my eyes, and ask my next-door neighbor to click "Post" for me because I was so scared.

>>10403082

Is "scrote" supposed to be like "scrotum?" Ah yes, clearly this is clearly intended to be used as a derogatory term to describe males. *scribbles in my notebook and pushed up my meganes* another textbook example of gal slang for my zoological record. What shall I call you in return? Boobs?

What would you say is the bare minimum needed for make to be considered gyaru? I have seen tutorials that say circle lenses aren't necessary and that westerners don't need to extend the eye shape down because their eyes already have that shape. So is it just having top and bottom false lashes then?
